No special promotions for Mario Kart 8 in North America have been announced yet, but it looks like Europe is getting a pretty nifty bundle. Similar to the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD bundle with statue, this new Mario Kart 8 bundle contains the game and a spiny shell statue. The listing is currently available on GAME for £59.99. If you already have a pre-order at an existing retailer, some are offering the chance to upgrade to this special edition.

We’ll keep our North American readers updated, as it’s likely this same promotion will extend across the pond, as the Wind Waker HD special edition did.

  • RyuNoHadouken

U.S. never gets any cool bundles πŸ™

  • NintendoFan

*Awaits Americans saying they get no special perks with games*

    • Guest

dude! thats not true, you constantly get special offers on virtual console games that we in europe cant acces, you can join nintendo club and get tons of bonus gadgets. Im from sweden and for some reason I cant get any of that. give us this one πŸ˜‰

      • Michael Ocampo

he’s saying that other people will start to complain about it, not him

  • dforce79

I want this in the US! Looks like I will be preordering this after all if we get it. I just hope that if we do, it’s not a Gamestop exclusive. I’ve got credit on Amazon waiting just for this game. May cant get here soon enough!

  • indazone88

Its a fact that Nintendo hates its American consumers

  • Zombie_Andrew

Smartest Bundle I’ve seen. They need A mega bundle – A 64GB version of the premium Wii U, bundled with Digital Copy of Nintendo Land, Physical Copy of Zombi U, NSMBU (with FREE download code for New Super Luigi U), Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 all bundled up for the same price as an Xbox One

    • Dark-Link73

Why are some people so obsessed with the Wii U getting bigger storage!?!? Is it so hard to see that for the $50/$70 you’ll end up paying for an insignificant 32GB more, when for the same price you can get anywhere from 320GB to 1TB of extra storage for a USB HDD depending on the brand! I just simply don’t get it.

      • 1 TB is about 90. Especially if you want a Nintendo approved one

        • jjbredesen

Thats if its an HDD we are talking about flash memory, it costs a lot more.

          • nice try guest. I saw who you were πŸ˜‰

          • well it is true, flash memory is more expensive

          • oh I know. I’m just saying I knew who posted that πŸ˜›

          • jjbredesen

I guess he/she misunderstood the comment, and then deleted the comment??

          • mmmmhmmmm πŸ˜‰

          • Zombie_Andrew

            Who is he/she?

        • Razo_E

I got a 2TB external HD from office depot for about $100. External power supply and all.

        • WT Herrod Jr.

HDWC120XK3J1 is Toshiba 2TB Canvio (on the approved list), $88.64 on Amazon. Who has two thumbs and a HDD on the way? This guy!

        • Dark-Link73

Which is the extra amount we’d have to pay for only 64GB or less of extra flash memory from a proprietary 128GB (or smaller) Wii U. I rather but the 1TB HDD.

      • TULFich

        ME neither

      • Zombie_Andrew

Simple marketing, you double the size of what you already sell, suddenly everyone goes nuts. You sell this 64GB one with a shit ton of games on it just adds to the illusion of value for money. Especially if you make some of those games pre installed on the Wii U leaving the original 32GB left

        • Dark-Link73

Yeah, that’s valid point from a business perspective. However, Nintendo’s philosophy with the Wii U (so far) has been about providing a quality product at an affordable price, while giving the consumer the choice to expand the console’s storage at will. Unfortunately the consumer is never happy. There’s always going to be somebody bitching. I bet you if Nintendo would’ve came out with a 64GB Wii U or even an 128GB U, people would still complaint that is too small, or that a proprietary HDD is too expensive, etc.

Nintendo will always be dammed if they do or dammed if they don’t.

          • Zombie_Andrew

I was more thinking if it came with Four our Five AAA Nintendo IPs built into the memory (whatever makes up 32GB worth, and still allowed for the usual 32GB memory) plus a physical copy maybe Zombi U or another 3rd Party exclusive (Wonderful 101, Lego City?) set at the same price as an Xbox One it would be an amazing offer. So long as the 64GB one was exclusive to the Β£429.99/$499 mega bundle I think that’d be worth it.

Or even have a “dream factory” Wii U bundle – a 32GB Wii U bundled with any 5 games of your choice for the same price.

However talking of memory I hope they allow SD cards to be used as well as USB sticks and USB HDDs as I want to get a 64GB SD card and save onto there

          • Dark-Link73

            OIC, pardon the misunderstanding. πŸ™‚

          • Yeah, and they could pack the HDD with virtual console games easily. Heck, why not an external HDD bundle with the system, drive and Y cable? What’s the markup on those 500GB drives?

          • Zombie_Andrew

I hope that when the 9th Generation comes around 2018(ish) the Wii U filing system will be compatible with the new consoles too soyou can just transfer all your Wii U games onto a large HDD and continue being able to play Wii U games on the new system alongside the new games

      • PatcherStation

Or the fact that in 2005, the Xbox 360 launched with a 20GB hard drive (upgraded to a 60GB). In 2014, the Wii U is nearly 9 years behind. The Wii U doesn’t even have a hard drive bay. I suppose you could shell out for an external hard drive, but then the price is up there with the PS4. In the UK, the Wii U can top Β£300, which is about $500, but the US price is $300 tops, which is about Β£180. Yet another reason why the Wii U is failing in Europe.

      • My PS3 came with 120GB back in 2008. I have never come close to using all of it. I got the Basic for Xmas, which was advertised on the box as 8GB yet really only has 3GB. Most buyers aren’t going to read the fine print and discover the available space less than half what is says on the box.

I bought a huge external hard drive, but I wish there had been better options to begin with. Several Wii U games, maybe most, are download-only. Those that aren’t are relatively compact compared to PS4’s 30GB games.

Basically a new Wii U user, someone who’s never owned a Wii, is conned into buying a load of accessories: remotes, rechargeable batteries, nunchuks, hard drive, balance board, fit meter… it’s nuts! People complain about microtransactions in games.. Nintendo’s been at it with peripherals for years. I’m surprised there’s no licensed hard drive with a Nintendo stamp on it.

        • Dark-Link73

Wow, you conned into believing you were getting 8GB of storage space and you only got 3GB. I wonder what PS4 and X1 owners felt when they bought their 500GB non-expandable (or at least cumbersomely as with PS4) only to realized they only got about 260GB. Yep! Nintendo conned you!

Listen, NOBODY who buys a Wii U as their first Nintendo console is conned into buying ANY accessory. EVERY SINGLE Wii U game works with the Gamepad WHICH (besides the touchscreen) is just like a Controller Pro or and XBOX controller (save the analog triggers). So you CAN play ANY Wii U game with the Gamepad. You don’t want to buy a Balance Board, DON’T BUY WII FIT U! That simple. As for the Wii U games, the only DL-only games are the indie, all the DL retail games have disk counterparts. If you are mostly into indie games, then yeah, you’ll be forced to buy a HDD (I’ll give you that), but you are not forced or “conned” into buying one.

Also, in case you haven’t noticed, you still have to buy many accessories for the other consoles too! For the PS4 you need to buy also controllers ($60), the camera accessory thing ($60-$70 [Kinect copy]), headsets ($100 from Sony At least with Wii U you can use you I-phone/cellphone ear piece to chat, for PS4 you need to buy either proprietary headsets of vey expensive after market), AND if you want the double-screen feature (native on Wii U) you need to buy a Vita ($200).

So… if you want the full Wii U experience you need to spend $300 for the Deluxe console, plus $50 for a Controller Pro (if you want to invite a friend) which lasts about 80 hours per charge, $80 for two Wiimotes and $20 for Nunchucks if you and your ONE friend prefer motion controls, plus $100 for not 500GB (250GB if you read the “small print”) but 2TB of extra storage from Seagate external (recommended by Nintendo); that puts us at $350. But let’s say you want to be conned into buying Wii Fit U, ok; that’ll be $90 for the Balance board/game (new) and $20 for the Meter. So our grand total is an “exorbitant” $560 USD plus taxes. NOW, if you want the full PS4 experience, you have to buy (obviously) the console for $400, plus an extra controller for $60 to have a friend over, plus $100 for their proprietary blutooth headset, plus $60/$70 for the PS camera, and $200 for the Vita… but WAIT I almost forget the BIGGEST CON OF ALL! IF you want to play online you have to shell out $60/year, so if you own your console for about 7 to 8 years, it’ll be at least another $420 (provided Sony doesn’t raise the price like M$ did with LIVE). So we’re looking a total of “only” $1,140 USD plus taxes. That doesn’t include an extra $150 internal 2TB SSD HDD if you want to have the same storage as the Wii U with the best PS4 can have. So our new total is now $1,290 USD….
YEP! I’m such a SUCKER for being “conned” by Nintendo. I should’ve gotten a PS4. Such a better value.

    • jjbredesen

Now that is a brilliant idea! If they had that bundle at lauch it would sell like crazy!

Sad thing about this news is that it confirm the dam blue shell!! Why do we have to be cursed with that shit πŸ™

    • RichM

So…does this mean no red case? The image shows a blue case. I guess it doesn’t matter to me because I’m getting a digital copy…bought the gift cards when they were 20% off.

    • Lusunup

you’re asking for waaay to much! I lol’d.

  • greengecko007

Isn’t this more of a special edition release? “Bundle” makes me think things like Wii U + Mario Kart 8, which would be Nintendo doing something smart.

  • AndrΓ©s

Excuse my ignorance, but what does that statue do?

    • Zombie_Andrew

You throw it at your enemies and it blows them up…in real life

    • David Trail

      It’s an ornament.

  • jhell

    us coming soon

  • Wooopigsooie

I want it! Btw that box is gorgeous! So shiny… lol

    • C4

Yep, I like the box, couldn’t care less about the blue shell. Should have bundled a small Mario on a Kart.

  • jjbredesen
    • TULFich

I think they should have bundled (is it written correctly?) it with both statue and steering wheel πŸ˜€

      • Michael Ocampo

Steering wheel? For the Wii U gamepad…

        • TULFich

actually for Wiimote, as all (or most) people have a Wiimote besides the gamepad, and it is uncomfortable playing with the wiimote a racing game without the steerig wheel

    • Elitepwnsface

      He is bad though.

    • Clel

“this is what will sell people!”

I was not aware Nintendo was involved in the slave trade.

      • jjbredesen

Dam, lol my grammar is fantastic XD, but Nintendo is acctually indirectly involved in slavery:

Most electronics devices contain minerals that originate in the mines of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, often called β€œconflict minerals.”

And as you read this, men, women and children are being threatened with force – often at gunpoint – to work in Congolese mines where conflict minerals for our electronics devices come from.

While many big electronics companies have already taken steps to get rid of conflict minerals in their supply chain, Nintendo has yet to join the electronics industry audit program for conflict-free smelters nor has it required its suppliers to use only conflict-free smelters – the bare minimum requirement for taking action on conflict minerals, so you could say that they are involdved in slavery πŸ˜› and then we have the love hotels XD

  • Fred

It’s official, I’m not getting this game. I hadn’t seen anything about the Blue Shell yet and didn’t think I was going to get it as I really like Sonic Racing on my Wii U and I didn’t like Mario Kart Wii or 7. I kept hoping they’d make it more like 64 or Double Dash, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It keeps looking like an HD version of Mario Kart Wii/7. If they had left off the Blue shell I would have seriously considered it. Since they didn’t and it still appears that 2-player will be done with split screen I can’t see myself liking it more than Sonic Racing.

    • Thomas Vienna

The blue shell was in Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash.

      • Fred

Yes I know that, but the other things about it were enough to overcome the blue shell (plus they didn’t happen as often in those earlier games) I’m not saying it’s the only reason, I’m saying it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. Have you tried Sonic Racing? If not you should, you might agree with me that it’s better than Mario Kart Wii or 7.

    • David Trail

I enjoy Sonic Allstars Racing as much as the last guy but come on. You know you are missing out. Mario Kart 8 is the number one original carting game and still the best!

      • Fred

Technically I don’t know a lot about 8 yet, but I know I loved 64 and Double Dash, but regretted buying Wii and 7 and so far 8 looks more like Wii and 7 than like 64 and Double Dash.

    • D.M.T

I own Sonic Racing and it’s one of the best carting games i’ve played, better than Mario Kart Wii but it won’t be better than Mario Kart 8. MK 8 looks many times better and more fun than Sonic Racing.

      • Fred

So what are you seeing in Mario Kart 8 That I’m not seeing? Cause I don’t see it.

        • D.M.T

You need glasses because a lot of people can clearly see that MK 8 will be better than Sonic Racing.

          • Fred

Why are you being a jerk? I asked an honest question. If everyone else can see it clue me in. The truth is my wife would love this game so if it’s something I’ll like then I’ll buy it but it looks to me like sonic racing is more fun.

    • Michael Ocampo

Blue Shell has been around since the second game so…

      • Fred

Yes I’m not dumb. I owned and played every Mario kart except DS. I never liked the blue shell, but in 64 and double dash it was almost the only complaint I had. Here I was hoping they’d finally removed it (which would have been a plus) since that’s now officially not the case it’s probably the straw that broke the camels back.
Unless like in 64 it’s rare again. In 7 that dang blue Shell drive me crazy in 64 it annoyed me.

    • C4

For me the footage scratches an itch that 7 and Wii didn’t prior to release (not saying that my feeling towards games is always right πŸ˜‰ ) . The tracks make this MK unique and also the recraftet classic tracks will be awesome. Sonic Racing tracks are also crazy (in a good way) but I don’t like the rhythm of changing / transforming vehicles so often.

Splitscreen options will hopefully announced soon as well as something like the Battle and Mission modes of previous MKs…

  • BIG Franky

there is also a Euro eShop promotion wherein if you purchase the original SNES Mario Kart (virtual console release on Wii U later this month) you will get a discount on a digital purchase of MK8 (on the same Wii U…i.e., it isn’t a code you can sell)…

    • that’s really interesting… I hope they do that for US!

  • David Trail

I’m going to get it off the website and get the t shirt as well.

Can’t wait… In the mean time I will be keeping myself busy playing DKC TF, Kytt Underground, Unepic, Shovel Knight, Child of Light, Mario Kart ( SNES ) etc.

  • JB

I take it this means the blue shell will be making an appearance in the actual game? NOOOO! LOL

If this comes to the States, I gotta ask Nintendo, “Why are you trying to take my money twice?” They know I’m trying to go digital, then they turn around and tease me with something like this! Lol

  • Sycamore

Nintendo really knows how to drain my wallet. Maybe they will have Skylanders-esque figures for smash bros? A mech mini statue for X? Keep it coming Nintendo.

    • Diaz

I would kill for something Bayonetta related

    • The smash bros figures would make perfect sense, seeing how they’re supposed to be toys anyhow

      • Snake Eater

I remember the first smash bros. watching the opening clip and thinking, wow this is awesome. But if they made statue figurines of the smash bros characters I would buy them.

        • I’d probably buy a little fox statue

          • Snake Eater

I would definitely get that, be even cooler if it was the original N64 version

          • all blocky? πŸ˜›

          • Snake Eater

Yeah it would look great, imagine it looking like this, although they gave him more detail the original still looks great

  • David Trail

Do a Mario Mega Mega bundle Nintendo…

SM3DW, Mario Kart 8, NSMBU, New Luigi Bros U, Mario and Sonic

  • Petri

Pre-ordered, might drop it if its above 70€

    • Shota

      its 80 euros

      • Petri

Don’t think that thing is worth +20€, but I’ll see next month.

        • Shota

          there are more i think

          • Petri

More? you mean that shirt and keychain, think that is only for Nintendo UK store, we here don’t even have proper representation in our neck of the woods.
But maybe Nintendo is too small to represent itself in whole Europe, so I don’t really blame them.
Seeing the bad financial situation Sony is in, we might lose representation from them as well (think they closed most of the Sony centers here already).
And I rather game on Ouya, than get an xbone.
            Sorry, go little sidetracked.

  • Dark-Link73

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Euro gamers get more cool stuff from NoE than we do in NA from NoA. Lucky ducks! πŸ˜‰

Btw, you guys are also getting this:

    • Petri

Wut? those all coming in it? Then I might get it for 80€, that shirt looks cool, and can never have too many keychains.

      • Petri

dang, only in uk Nintendo store…

      • Dark-Link73

That bundle is suppose to be from the Nintendo UK store. I know how much it’ll cost. So you better hurry before it’s gone if true. πŸ˜‰

      • NintendoFan

The bundle above at the Nintendo UK store is Β£59.99 I think, which is equivalent to €72.34

  • Magnus Eriksson

Sales will go up 100-150 % the first month. Declining for two months and then back to normal low sales again. This I can guarantee. Mark my words.

    • jjbredesen

Nah, remember what happened when Xbox one was shown? It went up something close to 800% i think since the only place we get weekly sales is japan, il use it as an exsample, now the sales are 8K a week, in the holidays it was about 100K so when MK comes out i think it will sell close to 50K for atleast a week and then start to go down to 40k then next week 30k etc. Don’t think it will drop below 20K a week untill the summer is over, since E3 right after MK8 is released and Smash i think will be out in the fall and Hyrule Warriors this summer? Donno about X, but i think Wii U should be able to sell about 1.5M in Japan this year, donno about the rest of the world since we don’t have good sources. But i think Wii U should sit around 7M at the end of the year, and perhaps 7,5M if X and Zelda U are released this year, but i think Zelda U will launch in feb 2015, and X around summer, and then we have whatever is shown at E3. So yeah, it will not stay super high ever month after MK8 lauches, but i think the avrage weekly sales will stay around 20K+ for the rest of the year. if Nintendo does everything correct, but i have a feeling they will not and that there will be periods where it goes down to 10K, and then around xmas it will sell better than xmas 2013, as there are more must have games out, donno if Nintendo will turn a proftit, but its to early to make any acurate predictions before we have seen what they are planning after E3.

      • Magnus Eriksson

        No way.

        • Rinslowe

          Yes way, man…. Yes way….
Maybe not exactly as described, but by the time Christmas holidays roll around again I think sales will be pretty much that or better.

  • Nintengoth

OMG I have just had sexual explosion in my pants…

  • Shota

  • Miles “Tails” Prower

  • ICHI

oh my god i want that shell!

  • The Clockwork Being

HAHAHAHA I live in North America *sobs*

But seriously, Europe seem to be getting the best of deals right now.

    • North America gets a lot of games earlier than we do though πŸ™

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

Was thinking of going to my local gamestop to preorder the game but with this awesome news today I’m just gonna wait.

  • RecheDiazrivarola

the most epic item of the most epic game

  • Nathan C.

Does Nintendo have a good reason to why this isn’t available worldwide?

  • Carlos Webster

    This bundle is cool.

  • Michael Ocampo

    Yes Please!!

  • Henry Hotspur

No wings on the blue shell? I know that’s the original design, but those wings looked so good on it.

  • I’ve never liked the blue shell so much…

  • Leo

    Wow amazing bundle!!!!

  • Rinslowe

    Box art is amazing!

  • PatcherStation

The SNES days, the US got so much more. Not sure why Europe is getting this sort of stuff, because the Wii U isn’t doing too well. But GAME are usually expensive for stuff anyway. Can’t see how it’s justified paying Β£20 extra for this. At launch, the game on its own will be Β£40 tops and will probably stay at that price for years. But all other Wii U games have dropped in price, some down to as much as Β£7.99. The likes of 3D World and New Super Mario Bros. have all been discounted to under Β£30, due to poor sales. Even Tropical Freeze launched at Β£30. If Mario Kart 8 goes the same way, expect it to drop to Β£30. Nintendo officially announced that it may reduce Wii U games (not sure about 3DS games), so they may eventually start at something like Β£30. Charging the same price for digital games is taking the p**s, some even selling for Β£50. Nintendo being banned for setting prices in Europe, I think it’s a way of clawing back lost coin.
