With the release of Mario Kart 8 only a week away, we’re excited as you are for the world at large to get their hands on the game. Be sure to check out our review of Mario Kart 8 where we discuss the merits of the new game, but if you’re eager to see what’s inside the box before you have it in your hand, well there’s a tweet for that. IGN’s Jose Otero recently took a picture of the contents of Mario Kart 8’s box, which includes a 1 page insert that details how to control the game will all the various methods capable of being used.

That disc art is looking pretty snazzy as well. Will you be picking up Mario Kart 8 when it’s released on May 30?

Please tell me the Pro Controller is applicable for this Game!

    • Decker Shado

Zooming in, that appears to be the first thing listed on the control options. (kind of hard to see in the smaller, low resolution photo, I know)
Edit: As in the “additional supported controllers” part. Yeah, I know the Gamepad is the first listed controller option…

    • Virus6

Every controller option for the Wii and Wii U is supported. That includes Pro Controller.

    • Tom Hoskins

Yes you can, it is in the bottom left of the image, along with wiimote and classic controller and wiimote and nunchuck.

  • Decker Shado

Sigh… I miss the old in depth, bulky instruction manuals. No, I didn’t read them more often than not, but… come on, when I got Pokemon Y, the pamphlet saying how to get the Torchic was LARGER than the instruction sheet for the game itself. O_o

  • SP-937-215

Jesus Christ, why don’t you just write a separate news article for each page of the Mariokart game manual. Then you can do one about what the disc smells like, and another about what it sounds like when it goes into the Wii U.

    • Decker Shado

They just did. That is the entire manual there, on one page.

      • Rick van der Linde

Now they can write about the smell of you burning him.

  • David

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes, the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
Their prowess is potent and secretly stearn.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
The fans get up and they get out of town.
The arena is empty except for one man,
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he’s driving and striving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

    He’s going the distance.
    He’s going for speed.
    She’s all alone
    In her time of need.
Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
    He’s going the distance.

No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine,
He’s haunted by something he cannot define.
Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse,
Assail him, impale him with monster-truck force.
In his mind, he’s still driving, still making the grade.
She’s hoping in time that her memories will fade.
Cause he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he’s striving and driving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

    Cause he’s going the distance.
    He’s going for speed.
    She’s all alone
    In her time of need.
Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
He’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
    He’s going the distance.
    He’s going for speed.
    He’s going the distance.

    • Mr. J

I’m really not sure if a video game website is the right place for a poem dude.

      • CaptRodgers

It’s lyrics to a song, a decently popular one too

        • Mr. J

Hmm well whatever song it is….I don’t know it.

        • Mr. J

          Oohhhhhh, I remember now….lol

      • Usaamah

He even referenced it at the bottom of his post…

    • Ocio Aguilera

      Love this F&%$&G song!!!!!

    • nin-10-doughfan

      clever!, i love it 🙂

    • Royan Rannedos

I read this post solely to like your comment.

  • Helbert Pina

Going digital with this one. It’s way cheaper and faster for me (living in Brazil). Looking forward to get it day one! 😉

    • Darius

i played it at gamestop a few days ago. ITS AMAZING

  • RockieOllie

    1 more week…

  • darkcreap

Accelerating with A instead of B? Braking with B instead of Y? I hope that does not lead to artificial finger positions… Was it like that for Mario Kart Wii? Because I always played it with WiiMote plus nunchuck.

    • you can play with the wiimote/nunchuck
but all the reviewers says that the controls was very good, all of them.

  • DoctorFart

    AHHHH :)D

  • cool1706

I usually don’t read the instructions, I just kinda learn as I go

    • Santiago

Its not that they are instructions, its that you have art in your hands! That cannot be pirated by pirat people and that is the genuine experience of purchasing something and owning it

  • Darius

    I am excited
I Really cant wait to Play

    There, a Haiku *claps*

    • anthony optimo

      This game will be fun
A green shell will smash many
      It’s all in good fun

    • condor87z

      You made a Haiku
Seeing it made my whole day
      My thanks goes to you

  • palomino blue

Manuals are definitely on their way out. They want to encourage people to go digital. Still wish they’d do a limited special edition with an art book though.

    • Gabe Hoffman

I do kinda miss the old manuals. Its sort of an instinct of mine to read through the manual first when I open up the box before starting up the game

    • Santiago

Yes, the manual is a little version of an artbook, or it used to be. What about a hyrule-historia-like book, available for purchase separately, that way I’m ok with no manuals anymore

  • Nostalgic_Chaos

Oh man, just looking at the inside of that disc case is getting me even more hyped! Can’t believe that it’s coming out NEXT WEEK. It’s been a LONG wait, but it’s finally here. Only several more days to go!

What characters are going to be your mains?

I’m looking to use Peach, DK, Toad, Wendy, Baby Peach and Roy.
I mean, there’s going to to be a whopping 30 characters. Gotta have a few faves right!?

Can’t wait! That whole weekend from the 30th is going to be spent in front of the TV playing Mario Kart 8, the whole weekend! Haha!

    • i will play with all of them, but most the new ones and yoshi

      • Nostalgic_Chaos

        Gotta love some Yoshi.

Apparently the Cruiser’s are supposed to be really good in MK8, so be sure to use one. Those are Rosalina, Waluigi, DK and Roy.

Cruisers have good speed, with balanced acceleration and handling. They’re the perfect all rounder.

    • greengecko007

The red box really compliments the artwork a lot, it looks crazy good! If I didn’t have the deluxe digital promotion I’d easily buy a physical copy…

My main drivers for MK8 will probably be Shy Guy, Yoshi, and Rosalina (hopefully that’s one for each weight class).

    • MarkyWiiU

When I read ”Roy” in the list of characters you’re looking forward to. I taught you were talking about the guy in Fire Emblem. XD (But I know its the guy in the Koopalings)

      • Nostalgic_Chaos

    • Rinslowe

      ” It’s been a LONG wait”

  • LukeMM95

I miss physical manuals. Digital manuals are nowhere near as fun to flip through.

    • i miss it too, but they’re more planet friendly now.
      i don’t find my mario kart 64 manual 🙁

  • Didn’t I say, that they would end up showing the manual? They really are showing us:

  • Zuxs13

Im getting the DL version. I don’t ever resell mario Kart games so Ill keep it on my hard drive and get the DDP points for it.

    • Andrew Gonzalez

Competitive titles are best kept on the hard drive because you know you will be coming back to them through the year. DL version here as well but I almost feel like I have to have a physical copy. Dat box art

      • Santiago

I feel like you don’t fully win with digital/disk. Go digital and have your game launch easily from the home menu. Go disk and have the collectible box. There should be a good middle point, right? What about buy a figurine that has a “key” but the game is actually digital, in your hard drive.

        • Andrew Gonzalez

That would be cool, it would be like PC games. Of course it would be one of those you need the internet to register the key.

      • Zuxs13

The box art is great but not a fan of the red case. I went special edition with wind waker but i think ill go DL with this to get the bonus points.

  • Ducked

    • LukeMM95

Just like the Double Dash box.

  • LevenThumps

Only one more week. I can’t wait!

  • Zach Cruz

I miss the old days where the games came with manuals with some decent content inside. Granted I didn’t read them to often but opening a game case and seeing that manual was great even if you just flipped through it.

    • Santiago

feeling the weight when you picked up the case was awesome!

  • Derek

I wish games still had full instruction manuals but I guess it saves money and trees.

  • James Tyrer

Are controls customisable? Because I like the way Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed controlled, although, I don’t think it will take too much getting used to, I would just like the option for trigger acceleration.

  • Sims3RealityCentral .

Getting MK8 on eshop at midnight.

  • Joe

Have mine preordered looking forward to my free pikmin 3 I have most the other games except wonderful 101 sadly it wasn’t for me.

  • Probably. The free game download offer is too good to pass up.

  • MarkyWiiU

Personally, I think that the controls are a little weird on the Gamepad. I taught it would’ve been: R and L for the drifts and X for the items or some thing like that.. Not complaining though, it’s just that it will probably take me some time to get used to it.

  • Darkness

I canceled my preorder. It’s too much like Mario kart 7 but the battle mode on Mario kart 8 is pathetic. I got to play Mario Kart 8 and it was ok but like I said it’s too much Mario kart 7. Plus the character roster was poorly done. This game had so much potential too

    • Josie the Sketcher

Yes it is a huge knockback that they changed the battle mode 🙁 . Let’s hope they’ll add DLC with battle arenas and more characters.

      • Darkness

I like your way of thinking. If they did bring DLC for battle arenas I would buy the game

        • Santiago

it feels like it should be included though. Why pay for something you usually get from day 1? Unless they make it more like a “patch” than “DLC”

  • LukeMM95

I don’t get why they didn’t just make B the drift button on the Wii remote. Not that I’ll be using that option a lot but holding down 1 and 2 to drift just seems awkward.

    • hahahero

IDK, I mean you already have the 1 button down, just need depress he thumb a bit more to drift. Might be ok. But we shall see soon enough.

  • condor87z

To get the digital copy or the physical copy?

  • ShortyStock

If only I could reach into my computer screen and snatch that game…

  • Rinslowe

    😀 😀 😀

  • Archiq09

I love the red box … Nintendo need make more red box :3

  • Dan

    That disc though!

  • oontz

So close…. So very close!! Very tempted to just dl the game but think I want the physical disc now. Damn you Nintendo!!
