British actor Bob Hoskins has passed away due to complications of pneumonia. He was 71 and while he was remembered for greater roles than that of his portrayal of Mario in the Super Mario Bros. movie, it is one of his most famous roles considering how unpopular the movie eventually was. Hoskins himself hated his part in the movie and publicly stated it was the worst decision he could have made in his career.

The worst thing I ever did? Super Mario Brothers. It was a f****** nightmare. The whole experience was a nightmare. It had a husband-and-wife team directing, whose arrogance had been mistaken for talent. After so many weeks their own agent told them to get off the set! F****** nightmare. F****** idiots.

Hoskins was the last actor alive to have portrayed Mario in a live action capacity, as Lou Albano from the Mario TV show passed away a few years ago at the age of 76.

He was a well respected actor. R.I.P

… But Lol at him citing Super Mario as being his worst role. I don’t blame him. That movie was a joke! Lmao!

    • Jeremy

He also did Dooms day if anyone saw that film, fucking blows he was funny

  • Jackson five

Who framed roger rabbit. I loved that movie. Rip Bob hoskins

    • Blue Hernandez

      Jessica Rabbit. ( . )( . )

I thought that was the guy. The last movie I saw him act in was Unleashed. I’m still laughing my ass off at his disdain with that Super Mario Bros. movie, yet another reason why you shouldn’t turn a game into a movie and vice versa.

  • LukeMM95

He was probably the best part of the Super Mario Bros movie (though to be honest, I never thought the movie was that bad). Such a shame that he’s gone.

  • Keith

R.I.P. my friend. I’ll be praying for you.

    • brian

He was your personal friend? Also, why pray? He’s dead.

I saw the super Mario movie in the theater back when it was released. I remember after seeing it and thinking that it was not what I expected. But the Mario franchise was still pretty young back then. It was definitely a strange take on super Mario bros. For what material was available at the time.

Awwwwww. How sad. I always loved Bob Hoskins. I don’t particularly like the MARIO BROS movie, but hey, I do respect him for the performance he gave in that. Personally, though, my favorite role from him is WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT as Eddie Valiant. He was GREAT in that! He will surely be missed.

    • daeglyth

Yea, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, definitely the best.

but lets not remember him for Mario, lets remember him for movies such as Hook.

    Great actor 🙁

  • Blue Hernandez

    Such a great movie…. RIP

  • FutureFox

Who Framed Roger Rabbit more than made up for this movie.

  • WiiUPS4

    RIP Bob Hoskins..aka Mario

  • Peter Lythaby

R.I.P Bob. Will be watching Roger Rabbit tonight

  • palomino blue

Terrible movie. I love it for how bad it was. Honestly though, There were several great actors in that movie who make it sort of fun to rewatch.

  • Carlos Webster

I hate diseases even more now, because the disease pneumonia apparently killed Bob.

    • Shaise

      Pneumonia also killed Hiroshi Yamauchi.

      • Mario

We know. May they both keep on jumping on top of Goombas in piece.

      • Carlos Webster

Yup, this proves that diseases are tyrants.

  • GariNGB

R.I.P Bob Hoskins. Super Mario Brothers might have been a dreadful film, but that wasn’t because of you. You played the part well, its just a shame the script that you were given was so damn poor.

    A true legend.

  • Mario

    Mario: R.I.P. Man. :'(

  • Dark Lord Sauron

    he will be missed

  • Logan Wayman

We fare thee well, Bob Hoskins. We will remember ye. Any words of enlightenment towards Mr. Hoskins as his soul is sent to the heavens?

  • Andrew Clear

    I liked that Mario movie

  • Josie the Sketcher

Not another acting legend?! RIP Bob Hoskins *sniff* * sniff * You’ll be deeply and sorely missed. I remembered him in Hook, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Super Mario Bros (which I enjoyed) Always wondered why Luigi didn’t have a mustache in the movie. Where were the goombas and koopas??

Anyway, we salute you, Bob! (TT__TT)
