One of the things that permeates gaming culture is the notion that Nintendo is a niche product that is destined to fail. Ask any gamer who primarily focuses on Sony or Microsoft consoles and you’ll hear arguments that Nintendo is doomed, they’re a company full of gimmicks, and that they won’t survive past a few years in this age of mobile. While that perception has done a lot to taint some gamers against Nintendo, is it actually true? Macroaxis is a financial investing tool that takes numerous aspects of an organization’s performance into account when determining whether the company is financially sound. Using this tool, we ran an analysis on Nintendo as a whole and discovered that the tool only predicts a 22% chance of failure for Nintendo. So where are Sony and Microsoft sitting? The results may surprise you. Microsoft is currently sitting pretty at only a 1% chance of failure due to its software division. Windows currently does a lot to carry the company and despite techie reactions to Windows 8, the world seems far more accepting. This is not to mention Microsoft’s current stranglehold on the enterprise side of things, where Windows and Office are the name of the game. Microsoft can afford to have the Xbox division fail, though it would be a costly mistake. As for Sony, anyone who has been paying attention to the global market as of recently knows that overall the company hasn’t been too healthy. They’ve recently had to sell headquarters and shore up divisions in order to make ends meet, so there’s plenty riding on the success of the PlayStation 4. Macroaxis determined that Sony has a whopping 78% chance of failure in the next 2 years, according to what financials look like today. That’s certainly more telling than Nintendo’s problem. local_offer Nintendo wii u stars Further Reading F-Zero X gets updated on Wii U to fix control New Zelda Breath of the Wild trailer and game Super Mario Maker Wii U vs 3DS comparison (vi Get Ocarina of Time on 3DS for only $14 New teaser site for Zelda: Breath of the Wild released How to track NES Classic Mini stock in time for Christmas wober2 i really hate the focus on doom or not doom. It hijacks the conversation away from actually just trying to enjoy the games and talking about the experiences. Everyone in gaming is a wannabe analyst… David Byrad What about the Console-only portion of Microsoft? What is the failure rate of that? Oh and I hope someone commented before me. Ashley King This tool doesn’t analyze divisions of a company, but rather the company as a whole. There’s no way to separate the data for Xbox only. The same is true for Sony, so this includes the company as a whole, which includes consumer electronics, motion picture studios, and its entertainment division. BIG Franky and THAT is where the problem lies for Sony… its other fields of business, particularly consumer electronics rely so heavily on an industry that produces razor-thin margins…. it is very difficult to actually make money on TVs, cameras, etc in today’s economy as these items are basically sold at cost almost. same goes for the movie industry…. hard to make money but very easy to lose money in…. for every hit (product in any category) that is produced, there are upwards of 5 to 10 misses…. and the misses are much more expensive than what the hits generate money-wise… its a very tough industry. plus, the fact of the matter is that Nintendo manages itself very conservatively with only a very small handful of companies sitting on more cash than Nintendo, Apple being one of them…. that why I always snicker when people say Nintendo was doomed because right now they are holding more cash than both Sony & MSFT combined, LOL… in fact, for some perspective, Nintendo’s cash reserves is more than all of Sony’s and MSFT’s total assets combined (as of quarter-end Sept 30, 2012… and that hasn’t changed much since then presumably…yes even with accounting for the launches of the PS4 & XB1 as they were operating at deficits through that time so even with the additional income there wouldn’t be a dollar for dollar cash collection, but anyways….LOL)… I actually work in this field (business valuation & corporate finance analysis) so this idea is of great interest to me and I’ve researched it before. very interesting stuff… The Clockwork Being Although this sounds positive it keeps on reminding me that these crazy predictions will never stop eh? Microsoft has a 1% failure! XboxOne is under performing and is way behind its 2 competitors. If I recall correctly Windows phones aren’t performing the way they want to, still being beat by Apple and Samsung. And the Surface tablet how about that! The only thing they seem to profit on so much is Windows. Sony is actually doing pretty well with their gaming console. But I the prediction for Sony is mostly because of the colossal fail of last gen. PS3 cost them 2 billion and they only started to profit from it late 2012. The Vita brand is also not doing well with the Vita and Vita TV underperforming. But the PS4 is doing great. I don’t get the Nintendo part. I mean the Wii U was off to a rough start but the Wii U is making a really good turn around right now in Japan and in the states. BUT THE 3DS. The 3DS is printing money. THE XL is printing money. Edit: SInce you guys don’t seem to under stand what i am implying with my Microsoft paragraph I will just post my reply to CEO brainz since it will get tiring to reply to the same comment I know that Microsoft’s failure rate is quite low but come on 1%. I would say it would be at 5%. I mean Microsoft is one of the biggest corporations in America and has alot of money in the bank but its failure rate sure isn’t 1%. I just thought that 1% seemed too low and it should be from like 2%-5%. But thinking about it now I kinda get why they put 1%. Since they can’t put 0% since they think Microsoft is no where near failure they have to put the number that comes close. SO they put 1%. CEObrainz Microsoft having a 1% failure prediction is very accurate actually, I mean we’re not speaking of the console but the whole corporation here. Yes, Windows is carrying Microsoft, but when you look at it everywhere you look you can find some sort of computer running windows whether that’s in offices, schools, etc. Sony’s numbers are most likely due to where they stand financially, there’s no question about it that Sony have been struggling with money and if not for a bail out by some investor(whom I can’t remember right now) then we’d see a much smaller Sony right now, not exactly failing but still much smaller. Lastly Nintendo can still do bad, althought the Wii U is doing better, it’s still possible for the big releases to just not do well. For whatever reason, it’s still a possibility that has to be calulated and the 3DS will start slowing down eventually, this year probably not, but by the next we may see a big slowdown if Nintendo doesn’t release a batch of big sellers again. Rinslowe “Lastly Nintendo can still do bad, althought the Wii U is doing better, it’s still possible for the big releases to just not do well. For whatever reason, it’s still a possibility that has to be calulated” True, Wii U could face failure within the next two years or it could just as certainly not… (personally I think this is nuts) But failure as a company withing the next two years? Sounds like bogus to me mate… Really. CEObrainz In my own opinion Nintendo can’t fail in the next 5 – 10 years with the amount of money and resources that they currently own. I was trying to make sense of the numbers that the article stated, which does sound unrealistic on most accounts. The Clockwork Being I know that Microsoft’s failure rate is quite low but come on 1%. I would say it would be at 5%. I mean Microsoft is one of the biggest corporations in America and has alot of money in the bank. I just thought that 1% seemed too low and it should be from like 2%-5%. But thinking about it now I kinda get why they put 1%. Since they can’t put 0% since they think Microsoft is no where near failure they have to put the number that comes close. SO they put 1%. For Sony as I stated before alot of their products aren’t doing what they expected like those I have listed above. For Nintendo ofcourse the failure rate is 22% but I think this was mostly based on their console situation without noticing its turn-around and the situation at hand. But me saying this goes what you said. ”For whatever reason, it’s still a possibility that has to be calulated” Yes it is a possibility that has been calculated with what they have taken in account. But omitted other things. Nate The Surface tablet kind of reminds me of the Wii U. It is easily one of the best and most useful tablets out there (I have the RT). I can plug almost any computer accessory into the USB port and it works instantly, has multiple ways to expand storage, has a full version of Microsoft Office, and having a full size keyboard built in to the cover is amazing! But, yet Microsoft loses almost $1 billion dollars on the device and it is “cool” to make fun of it. The Wii U is one of the better gaming systems I’ve ever owned, oozing with potential. Everything about it is well-made. The off tv play is extremely underrated. Even little things like using the touchpad with Netflix are excellent (the best app of Netflix out there). There are also tons of awesome games out there now. But, yet it is the “cool” thing to make fun of Nintendo and the Wii U. Not sure what my point is. LOL Mercurio2054 your point is that in this market, only good marketing and/or what the masses want… if 56% of people like “abcd” so it culd grow in number or stay like that because “it’s what every one likes”… some times its doesn’t matter if in the market a product “ghi” have better option. Daniel Gonzalez Wii U is on to a good start this year, but as last year showed, it’s possible sales can drop over time. I expect some sales drops in the PS4 and Xbox One as well. 3DS I’ll leave alone since it’s it’s obvious by it’s huge sales numbers it’s going to continue. Indeed that Sony is counting on PS4 to succeed and it may hurt them if it blunders. I think it’ll be okay as I feel this generation it’s going to be a huge hit. I’m optimistic about this year in gaming. In either case, good luck to all three. Skelterz That’s the most optimistic thing ive ever seen coming from you and i agree good luck to all three they all have goodies coming out so im game to own all if them for 1 reason or another at some point probably can’t justify or afford it but i could always write doom and gloom articles to fund it…hahahaha Daniel Gonzalez Then you don’t follow enough of my comments to see the optimism(like the silly lone upvoter), but that’s another story. Haters gonna hate. Lol. 😛 I would also like to own all three if money permitted me to do so. Xbox One would be the last I would own. Their blunder at E3 turned me off. A year from now, I can see myself owning a PS4 and Wii U to go along with my PC gaming. Having a few flavors never hurts. palomino blue Microsoft has mega contracts in the business world, many of which are longer than 2 years. Their success has nothing to do with their phones or XBOX. Whether we like it or not, their software would have to be really bad for a long time for those companies to cut their losses and dump windows/office. The Clockwork Being Please read Edit. Never mind ill past it here I know that Microsoft’s failure rate is quite low but come on 1%. Mercurio2054 microsoft is loosing market share in windows domain Rinslowe “And the Surface tablet how about that!” But I love my Surface Tablet… 🙂 The Clockwork Being Its really good piecve of hardware actually but still I just sited it as an example of how Microsoft’s rate of failure could be a little bit higher. Rinslowe I know what you were getting at lol. And I totally agree. Just couldn’t help myself. 🙂 Truth is, I’m addicted to alternative tech which is why I swear by my Nokia 1020 and WP8. And that camera! 🙂 In fact it syncs like a dream, IMO. The Clockwork Being Really wish I had one. Gosh who the hell downvotes this comment Rinslowe Lol. Hahaha, Nintenscience and his pals out for a troll this morning I see. 🙂 Decker Shado As I desperately want a surface… going by all I’ve found out by haunting news about the Surface since it’s inception – 1st gen = overproduced, badly marketed. Needed a write-off, looked bad to investors. Still sold millions, and if you’re interested in the features over the form factor, no the Pro is not overpriced. It’s probably the cheapest tablet PC available. (seriously, look up the Sony Vaio Duo and tell me different) The 2nd gen was announced with “meh” reception, but the advertising was much better – and they have been selling out, then selling out, then staying sold out. 2nd gen Surface tablets appear to be moving VERY well. Personally, I don’t care if it sells or not, I just want one. Problem is I’m broke. Rinslowe I have the Pro… And it just works. It clicks with me in a way the Ipad never did. Probably because it doesn’t take long to see it’s actually doing a lot more. And the OS is my fav…. Nate iPad is good for what it does, but it should be half the price when the competition does the exact same thing iPad does, and in most cases, offers more bang for the buck. About two minutes after opening my Surface RT I kept thinking “this thing can do A LOT more than my wife’s iPad.” Like you it just kind of “clicks” with me unlike the iPad, which I find boring. Also, I’m really liking Windows 8.1 too. Android is still my favorite mobile OS, but I prefer Windows to Android in some cases. jedidethfreak They’re talking company-wide. It doesn’t matter if the Xbox One is doing poorly or that the Windows Phone is all but dead – Windows and Office are an unbeatable juggernaut. Sony, on the other hand, not only has SCE which hasn’t done well in a VERY long time, but NONE of their hardware divisions have been profitable in about six years. The only divisions Sony has that make money are Sony Pictures and Sony Music. As was mentioned, they had to sell TWO headquarters buildings, just to pay off some debt. Guest http://global3.memecdn.com/seriously-11-minutes-video-of-bashing-he-couldv-amp-039-e-used-that-time-to-clear-a-game_c_2676669.webp Daniel Carvalho Weird… I deleted this post because I made a mistake while uploading it, and the site just turned it into a Guest post… Daniel Gonzalez Blame Disqus. RyuNoHadouken the fail sauce continues to ooze out of Ninty EAD…but seriously, all they have to do is hit the market with a bevy of AAA titles to swing the momentum in their favor…the morons who made the decision to NOT have at least 6 AAA titles drop the first year of release should be drawn and quartered Daniel Gonzalez Interesting statistics. Though, I’m not worried about them overall. All three consoles I feel are going to have a great 5 year run. Call it optimism, but I feel things will be fine for all three in the future. I think people worry too much over this stuff. 😛 Jon Microsoft is understandable because well…. everyone uses windows that owns a PC (unless they use a Mac of course but lets face it, they are only a minority). Nintendo? I’d say give them less than 22% as if they needed to, they could easily ride on the 3DS and the Wii u sales are picking up and I doubt they will be as low as they were last year and unlike Sony, Nintendo is only one division really, and that is gaming where Sony has gaming and a bunch of other stuff with it. Virus6 Nintendo’s profits in the past 10 years alone could let them coast for years with the Wii U tanking. Sure, shareholders would probably riot, but they could do it. They have the most money in the bank when it comes to their gaming. Daniel Carvalho The most amazing part is how fanboys from other platforms love attacking Nintendo. Instead of playing what they like, they prefer to spend time researching about Nintendo to attack its fans. I found a 11 minutes video made by a guy that kept calling Nintendo fans faggots, not to mention the time it took for him to edit and upload. I’m not even gonna comment on how he replied, but it’s just sad seeing someone like this… Laud The thing that bothers me the most is how they say, “EXPOSED!” Do they even know what it means or what? I’m assuming it’s just them trying to troll but I just end up laughing because they’re trying to make what they believe is an intelligent argument and then it turns out they’re just idiots. crocodileman94 And I thought I wouldn’t find a Playstation fanboy worse than *********… peeer What’s even funnier in the end is that in fact most of them trolls loves Nintendo products. Its just that they can’t get all systems and they choose the system that fits best for their needs and its usually Sony or Microsoft, because on Nintendo systems there is a low support from 3rd party. I know one guy who trolls Nintendo fanboys like that and he told me that he does that only because its funny to see their reactions. He actually doesn’t believe what he says bad about the Nintendo products he’s just trolling for his amusement. He owns a Nintendo 3DS and he wish he had money to get a Wii U but he only have money for one system and he gets Xbox. But don’t worry tho he only trolls on Youtube not here, I don’t think he even knows this website exists. Playing at their games like all the peoples that reacts to their trolls is what feeds them to continue. So, as long that there will be peoples bitting to their trolls as long trolls like that will exist. Rinslowe ” He owns a Nintendo 3DS and he wish he had money to get a Wii U but he only have money for one ” ” He actually doesn’t believe what he says bad about the Nintendo products he’s just trolling for his amusement.” Yep. Common practice among haters of any flavour. “Playing at their games like all the peoples that reacts to their trolls is what feeds them to continue. So, as long that there will be peoples bitting to their trolls as long trolls like that will exist.” Good point. 🙂 Nintenjoe82 The South Park console wars episode should have ended with the winning fanboys being told they were fags like in the Guitar Hero episode. Rinslowe I predict a 100% chance of so f-n what…. Skelterz Its all horseshit anyway this gaming war thing that’s happening these days is so boring to talk about now lol ive spent alot of my gaming life on nintendo sony and microsoft consoles its all about what takes your fancy and when and when i hear people talking trash about specs and power software and all that its just so boring basicly what im trying to say is if we actually lost one of these companys it would be tragic there needs to be markets for everyone thats what makes gaming universal no matter what console you prefer we all have one thing in common we love games the sooner people think with that mindset the better its about fun not specs or doom and gloom, failure etc. Zuxs13 This has been going on since 1989. Skelterz Yeah but not at this intensity mate you know that as well as i do back then it was friendly rivalry to spark better games out of the rival companies and stuff these days its little boys with opinions that to be honest are meaningless like EG my ps4 has 8 core rar rar rar rar… so my fist has 4 knuckles lol its just rehash after rehas specs this ram that games are sposed to be enjoed without arseholes throwing out figures and facts. Shota back then it was nintendo or sega. the fans said this game got more megabyte than that game. war of megabytes era ends Skelterz yeah but back then there was less information for people to really sink there teeth into these days you can read a bunch of stuff about specs without knowing what it means and then start using as an arsenal of facts to try and sound like you knwo what your talking about and thats what most of the people are doing these days its alway the same stuff getting said specs ram power all that shit Shota yep. more power doesn’t mean it’s better. like xbox360 Leo True. It’s sad when i checked other website the other day and saw that the people who run the website played very few games this year, instead they spent the whole year complaining of “lack of games” lol Skelterz see thats what im saying lack of interest in on whats actually in offer they just wanna bitch about what isnt available Leo Somewhat i sense that some of those people fails to understand that they are not interested in actually playing games anymore. We see 30yo people bitching about “lack of games” but in reality the games are there, it is the people who have aged and can’t realise that companies like Nintendo won’t necessarily follow their growth. The whole internet is full of people dipped on what i call the the midlife crisis lol Zuxs13 That as all happening back then on the news and on the playgrounds. Its just today you get to see it all the time online. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_E2lh1lgmk&feature=youtube_gdata_player Ace I think it is funny how the tool predicts failure rather than success. Instead of saying that Nintendo has a 78% chance of staying afloat in the next 2 years it says they have a 22% chance of failing. Lol Adrian Both numbers are bad to execs. Show the smaller one 😀 Adrian I hope Sony doesn’t fail. It’s my cup of tea :'( Daniel Gonzalez They won’t. I’m sure there are plenty that want it to happen, though. Sucks for those who feel so strongly about it. I see good fortune for them this generation. 😛 Adrian downvoters = have no life. Why would you ever wish for a company that has great products to fail? Daniel Gonzalez Well you are on a website that covers the Wii U.Which means fanboys and haters will flock to hate you or downvote your comments. Kinda like mine. Just take it in stride and not care. 😛 Virus6 Sony is the other company I actually like. If Sony dies off, I sure as hell won’t go to Microsoft and their Western-only focus for games. Eff that. I just pray that if that happens, a lot of the developers shift focus to Nintendo or that Nintendo+Sony teamup goes down, kinda like Sega has in recent years since Sony guys like Shu Yoshida like Nintendo. Rukiafan Rukiachan http://i1342.photobucket.com/albums/o778/Chillguyx8/zYw1A_zps3ab31986.jpg Nintedward Right…. But Nintendo is the one who is doomed? I’m completely sick of all the analyst bs that is flung around. They write hyper negative articles about NIntendo just to get hits, but they never include this chart in their articles…. Nintendo is fine for at least, the next 10-20 years. Smartphones seem to be having little to no impact on the 3DS at all, and the Wiiu is doing OK! As i’ve said before bring on another N64 type sales amount for the Wiiu! The n64 is one of the most revered systems of all time and the Wiiu can end up the same way. Nintendo= Gaming. Daniel Gonzalez Everyone’s a critic. I think there are far worse things to be upset about. Lol. Nintedward Exactly! I bought a 3DS and a Wiiu because I genuinely enjoy the content that they have, just like I enjoy music or film… I bought a PS4 because it will have content that I like, just like music or film. I honestly, don’t give a crap how much the 3DS, Wiiu or PS4 sells. What I do give a crap about though is that none of those platforms go bust (like say, Sega and Dreamcast) which could have a hugely negative impact on the content! So, as long as Nintendo just keeps providing me/us with the content that we crave, who actually gives a crap how much they sell? Squid Even though your comment has nothing to do about game music. (Because I misread the beginning) I must say Nintendo hasn’t messed up a soundtrack in a long time. Nintenjoe82 I have to say I wasn’t overly enamoured by NSMBU’s soundtrack…… Squid Yes but it was in no means “bad” gimpcell But the 3D World soundtrack keeps me going at work. I cant stop repeating it. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo. Da da da doo doo da da da doo doo…. then i have to go poop. Jk im really weird with my comments. readypembroke Don’t feel bad, I say more weird and stupid stuff in class. Yousif Alromaithi I never gave a crap on how sell more and dominates the console war. But I know nobody can beat 3DS not even the great PS4. But I respect Sony and Microsoft. I have an Xbox One and planing to get a PS4 once Infamous comes out. Note my younger brother has a PS4. bizzy gie Had you not put Sega and Dreamcast in parenthesis, I would have had no idea what “go bust” meant. Squid That’s true, Nintendo can make us look at this system in 10 or something years and make us reminisce about how good these games were. Like GameCube. David John Gifford so true i have had nintendo consoles for 25 years now all the way fromthe nes The Clockwork Being Troll: Butz that fromm 2011 so Nintenyearolds and Nintendoom gonna failz lololol in future jay Except with worse grammar. gamesplayswill And with 100% organic retard. BIG Franky in fairness though…. if this chart extended past 2011, Nintendo would have some red as well… just saying. Alienfish Pretty sure it was only one year though. No company is perfect. Thomas Vienna What exactly is that number, is it Net Profits? LopsidedPasta Amen. I thought I had heard that Sony hasn’t made a dime in about 5 or 6 years. They knocked the PS4 launch out of the park, I must say, but they have a heckuva hole to climb out of. nin-10-doughfan they’re saying? Rich Garriques wow that is cold , you didnt have to come that hard You are flat out wrong HAHAHAHA Xbox is finished. Jonathan George Anaya Ahh, the Hardware chart. That is a profit margin chart for net gains on hardware manufacturing. IF you continued the chart out, you’d see Nintendo taking losses in 2013 and Sony taking losses as well. Sony has a 80% of Failure. What happens when MS buys out their first party studios when they’re clearanced off by Shareholders? Do you buy an X1 or boycott gaming altogether? Haha You are flat out wrong I go master race and stick with Nintendo and laugh when Elop sells the Xbox brand so the other tech companies and big publishers can pick it apart. 🙂 readypembroke All Elop is is a CEO candidate. He isn’t the CEO. greengecko007 Very much off topic, but if anybody cares… The Gamescoop from IGN has revealed the most anticipated games of 2014 as voted on by their users, and 3 Wii U games made the cut, dominating their respective genres. Mario Kart 8 was voted the most anticipated racer of 2014, beating out other highly anticipated games like Drive Club, and The Crew. Super Smash Bros. 4 dominated the fighting games category, with the Gamescoop memebers even joking “There’s new Super Smash Brothers and then just everything else”. Super Smash Bros. beat out a new Dragon Ball Z fighting game and Street Fighter. To rap things up, Nintendo games nailed both the #1 and #2 spot for the platformers category, with Gamescoop members commenting on that being “no surprise”. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is the most anticipated platformer of 2014, followed by Yoshi’s New Island. Other noteworthy titles on the list were the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Rayman Legends. http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/12/13/game-scoop-2014s-most-anticipated-games So hopefully Wii U sales will continue on the rise, and LOL to all the people who think IGN is biased against Nintendo. Daniel Gonzalez I see IGN praise quite a lot of Nintendo games. I don’t see the bias in Nintendo. I was wondering where people have come to that conclusion. Lol. Jon because for some reason, people in this industry don’t like Nintendo doing well so therefore anyone giving Nintendo a good score will be seen as biased towards Nintendo. Daniel Gonzalez That’s a poor way to see it to me. People should worry less about what people think and more on the games they love. 😛 Jon well think about it, How many people do you see writing doom and gloom for Nintendo yet Nintendo still comes out of it further ahead than it was before. We had people here going on about how Nintendo is done and that Wii U will be discontinued yet every time there was something good to say about it, they came across about how they were blind or they were paid to do it. Daniel Gonzalez The major question here I feel is, why pay attention to it? Lol. Articles are written on it because people take the bait and get uppity about it. News like that online can be minimized if people learned to ignore it. You see those articles because they give them a lot of hits, and those hits are Nintendo fans that are easily upset. Mercurio2054 yes it is, topics like this one make much more money that common ones Daniel Gonzalez Anything that is controversial is going to get more hits. Good news is too obvious to most and expected, while negative articles for example relating to Pachter is clearly going to get more hits. Andy Samson I bet you’re just trying to make yourself feel better by saying Nintendo fans are easily upset given you’re just a drone in disguise Daniel Gonzalez I bet you’re an angry fanboy in disguise. Oh wait…..there is no disguise for you. You made it too obvious. See? I can make accusations too. It’s not that hard. Let go of the bitterness and play nice. Or continue being angry, your choice. ;P Andy Samson Just because I use a Mii? lol. Stop being pretentious. All you did was change your avatar, you’re still the same bald headed drone. Daniel Gonzalez Don’t see where I talked about your Mii? I called you a fanboy by your noticeable anger, or perhaps you are just bitter in general. It’s questionable. I’ll stop being “pretentious” when you stop being an angry gamer who can’t keep his cool. ;P I take pride in my bald head. If that was an insult, I found it strictly as a compliment. Thank you so much. Please, just stop. You’re making me blush. 😉 Rinslowe “yet Nintendo still comes out of it further ahead” That is because – Reggie – is one positive SOB! And I love that about him, lol. 🙂 crocodileman94 If anyone is bias against Nintendo, it’s Gamespot. At least the WiiU. Daniel Gonzalez I never noticed it to be honest. Though, Gamespot I find to be quite harsh on reviewing many platforms. Hipster Victor lol meanwhile Gamespot gave ALBW Game of the year award. crocodileman94 That’s why I said the WiiU. They criticised the **** out of the latest Direct, and they’ve also made a video where they stated that you’d only buy the WiiU version of Watch Dogs if you prefer “shittier” graphics. Squid The only thing that surprised me was the score that Sonic Lost Worlds for Wii u got, I feel at least that game deserves a 7.0 Daniel Gonzalez Reviews on based on opinions. So any review you see on any game is subjective. Only thing that matters what you feel it deserves. I never played it, so I can’t agree nor disagree with you on what score it deserved. 😛 jrob23 If a known Sony fanboy reviews a game that gets better scores both from other gaming sites and users…then it’s okay to question their opinions. ZombiU is one such review. One of the worst reviews I have ever read, only slightly better than Keza’s review of TW101 (and she is supposedly a Nintendo fan). When it’s obvious it’s obvious. It works both way too, Audrey Drake used to be too liberal with her Nintendo praise and it actually angered many Nintendo fans. But I’d rather have someone who actually enjoys the console of the game they are reviewing because for the most part they “get” the nuances and appreciate the effort and objective that the game was going for. Rinslowe True SLW wasn’t great, IMO. But 7 is spot on. What did they end up giving it? 5.6 or something like that…. Deadpool U I don’t necessarily see what IGN wrote as a ‘review’ since it can be easily summarized like this:” I don’t wanna learn how to use the controls, Sonic is slower and it ripoffs Mario Galaxy!” But what do you expect when it’s written by Vince Ingenito? Rinslowe Hmmm…. True 🙂 jrob23 before Jose Otero became the ‘go to’ Nintendo guy at IGN there was a pretty dark period there where numerous posts went out of their way to disparage the Wii U. The site has lots of admitted Sony fanboys. Some of their review scores were lower than most user scores with subtractions based on stupid reasons i.e. Pikmin 3, The Wondeful 101, ZombiU and their reviews of ports that were the definitive versions on the Wii U didn’t reflect in their scores i.e. Need for Speed Most Wanted, Deus Ex, Rayman Legends. The praise you might have been seeing is the praise Nintendo has deserved all along. Meaning, their 1st party games and exclusives are top notch and mostly deserve top reviews/scores and praise. The Wii U may have had a lull with their software but now that they don’t, you don’t see 1/10 of the articles acknowledging that compared to the constant attention the drought brought. Just because they finally came around once Jose got there with reviews of Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3d World, A Link Between Worlds does not mean that all is forgiven in many of our minds. The PS4 and Xbone are facing the same launch issues and game drought as the Wii U but you barely hear a peep about it. The Wii U actually had a stronger launch in terms of sales (or right around the PS4) but yet you don’t hear about that at all. So asking where people could possibly get that impression from an obviously biased site is kinda disingenuous. Rinslowe “before Jose Otero became the ‘go to’ Nintendo guy at IGN there was a pretty dark period there where numerous posts went out of their way to disparage the Wii U.” That’s exactly right too… Not to say that Rich wasn’t representing Nintendo, he was a total fanboy. But maybe he didn’t have quite the same personality behind the scenes when dealing with his fellow colleagues… Jose Otero looks like he speaks his mind and doesn’t mind a little constructive criticism. Just my opinion… jrob23 Rich liked Nintendo for sure but Jose and Audrey are just bigger fans imho. Jose does the Nintendo Voice Chat and despite loving Nintendo he isn’t afraid to call them out. I think Rich was thought of as a fanboy so to keep cred he put Nintendo down unnecessarily sometimes, whereas Audrey, cute a fuck..was over the top lol Rinslowe I am totally hanging out for Mario Kart 8 like you wouldn’t believe!!! greengecko007 Even with games like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age 3 coming out, MK8 and SSB4 are easily my most anticipated games of this year. Rinslowe Exactly. Both the Witcher 3 and Dragon Age 3 are day one purchases IMO. But the only games I’m not going to be able to go without this year is; Mario Kart 8 and Monolith Softs X (has to be 2014, fingers crossed!!)… erich80 I got very hyped about Watch_Dogs last year, but the Ubisoft delay made me… Meh… I don’t know… Not sure anymore if I’ll pick this anytime soon after its release. I’m not sold about Witcher 3 yet, but Dragon Age seems to be awesome. Some months ago, Polygon has disclosed a 30 minute-length footage taken from a Finnish game convention held last year. It looks promising. Rinslowe Yeah – read through what the studio was saying in regards to their delays. And I couldn’t stop thinking that a lot of the reasons behind it, had to do with the success of GTAV. I dunno, but it really seemed as though they were making an unnaturally high amount of references to that game during the interview. And I wonder if they just thought that people would want something a little more open, less scripted perhaps? In comparison to what Watchdogs was at that time offering… I don’t think there’s any way to really tell, but that’s the impression I was getting. Still if Watchdogs releases on Wii U with solid Gamepad support then that’s the version I’ll be supporting. Without a doubt there is a lot of potential. Like Deus Ex proved to me especially. The gamepad is no gimmick… erich80 Although I have no crush for GTA games, I do know that they are widely acclaimed and sell like hot cakes. You’re right when say that the impression is that Ubisoft, delaying Watch_Dogs, wanted to avert GTAV competition, since GTA franchise is already established, has a enormous mind share and etc. If I decide to go for Watch_Dogs, I’ll pick the Wii U version up as well. I think the Gamepad can add a lot to the gameplay. I bought Deus Ex on Newegg last month for 24 bucks, but I didn’t have time to play it. Your statement made me decide to feel how it plays still today. readypembroke Actually the Deus Ex Directors Cut sold best on Wii U. erich80 Hum, didn’t know that. But we have to consider that X360 and PS3 owners probably had already purchased Deus Ex when it hit the shelves back in 2011. readypembroke Had Watch Dogs paid off for Wii U just to find out that it was being delayed for this year. One of my classmates is so excited for it that he said when I got it, he would come over. I will totally get Mario Kart 8 which some friends said if I get it, they would come over. erich80 Then invite your friends and get ready for awesome moments, because MK8 will be simply standout! I’m so thrilled about it! Nintenjoe82 Amen. MK8 will definitely be good but I really want it to be a fan service as well as an awesome Kart game. Needs every retro track included and a return to the 3 balloon battle mode. Zuxs13 This wasn’t IGN who voted on this. It was the readers wasn’t it? And who else makes good platformers? Most fighting games these days suck and most racing games are just cheesy the fewexceptions are for the niche pc gamers. Its good Nintendo is on the lists but its hardly showing evidence of no bias or bias, especially if thebfans are the ones that picked the games. greengecko007 Not showing evidence of being biased against Nintendo does support the claim that they are not biased against Nintendo. The reporters had no problem saying that Nintendo games were among the most anticipated games of 2014. They did so without taking cheap shots at the company, and even went on to joke that it wasn’t surprising, or commenting on how Nintendo dominates in a certain area. Reporting the facts is what good, non biased, journalists do. IGN is hardly the anti Nintendo website fanboys make it out to be. “Wonderful 101 didn’t get a 10/10 OMG IGN hates NIntendo!”. Zuxs13 i never said they were biased or not in my comment. I simply stated that games selected by their fans then they talk about it and a Nintendo editor agrees with it, hardly dismisses whether or not they are biased. greengecko007 But it’s hard to claim that someone is biased when they don’t show bias. That’s what I’m saying. My claim that they are not biased is supported by the fact that they didn’t show bias. Also, none of the Gamescoop members are Nintendo reporters or editors. D.M.T Lol oh my gosh there’s a PS4 and XBO version of Rayman Legends? Damn Ubisoft went from making that game exclusively to Wii U to making that game for every gaming system currently on the market lol. Squid And it then sold WAY less then it could have. Leo Ubisoft panicked with the whole media massacre that Nintendo had in the beginning of 2013, in an act of despair they decided to delay a finished product and ended being upstaged by everyone in the second half of the year. Poor Ubi, they were screwed lol D.M.T That´s what they deserve for screwing Nintendo fans lol. readypembroke hey you forgot 3DS!! But the next thing you know is that they make a One and PS4 version of Blacklist which would be cool. Nintenjoe82 They’re not biased against Nintendo just biased against everyone when it suits them. Some of their Nintendo reviews are too generous if you ask me. Right now it is Nintendo or MS’s turn to feel the scorn of IGN but they will soon start baiting Sony if PS4 sales dip next month. I think their main problems are consistent regardless of platform i.e. erratic review scoring, too much preview hyping of dud games and needless click bait articles. Fred How did they not mention X? greengecko007 Little to nothing is known about it. lonewolf Employees at ign love nintendo games(mostly because of nostalgia because guess what they grew up with them) but talk shit about nintendo and their consoles (especially the wii u). Skelterz I have a theory about online gaming and intergration that would probably end this silly war/debate that’s been going recently i think it lies in mulit-platform online so i can play call of duty with my friend who owns an xbox one for example whilst im on my wii u and i can message go into a party chat with my pal who’s on ps4 whilst on my 360 it will ease the whole thing if buying into something because everyone you know has got one and it will bring gamers together as well as being cheaper and more lucrative for companies think call of duty ghosts must have like a ton of online servers taking lots of cash and space imagine one large server/space where all gamers from all consoles could play together, call of duty isn’t one of my favourite games its just a perfect example since its on all platforms and is online. Zuxs13 Doesn’t work that easy. The consoles don’t all have the same architecture or the same OS so they can not communication and play easily with each other. Just like there are many apps on IOS that don’t work well with the same app on android. Its also very costly to make the different devices to communicate with each other and there is no real reason for the developers to spend the moneyto make them do so . Andrew Chambers Well, that’s not entirely true. How the system reads and executes the program doesn’t affect what it outputs. For example: All systems use a different system, but the output to the TV is always the same. For online gaming each console runs the game as it normally does, but then bases the other players’ actions on the information from the network. Cross platform play is possible, just look at Counter Strike or the MMO’s released by Spacetime Studios. Pocket Legends is and MMO that allows iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, and Mac OS user to play together at the same time. Zuxs13 True each output is using the same 802.11 standard or another IEEE standard so they can communicate with the servers. And im sure the servers are probably running on some form of Linux, but it does take more resources for the developers to make the codes compatible with each other. Patches will have to be put out simultaneously making them either come more slowly or less effectively. Monomon Something to Wii U haters… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XZGHOxnCto I don’t hate Xbone or PS4 gamers, but I hate Wii U haters! Daniel Gonzalez I dislike haters in general. 😛 Guest Since Microsoft has less than one per cent of chance to fail…I think I made a mistake here. 😛 Guest Plus,Microsoft has a lot more things it owns, like Windows. Monomon My bad,Microsoft can’t fail because it owns other things, too. But how for Sony… BIG Franky because the vast majority of Sony’s business is tied up in consumer electronics which consists of notoriously razor-thin margins…. it is very difficult to make money on TVs and cameras in todays economy… these things are basically sold at cost. Magnus Eriksson “Ask any gamer who primarily focuses on Sony or Microsoft consoles and you’ll hear arguments that Nintendo is doomed, they’re a company full of gimmicks, and that they won’t survive past a few years in this age of mobile.” No, thats not the argument at all. The argument is that Nintendo have lost basically all third party support, been unable to deliver their own products at a steady pace and a highly unclear message of whom they are adressing. Also releasing a comparable weak product, been unable to show the relevance of their own selling points and relying on outdated formulas like the NSMB series and DK along with party titles. Skelterz I think everyone is missing the point really the longer we argue back with these fanboys the longer this shit gets discussed i for one am bored i wanna read good decent articles instead of all these doom and gloom ones Rinslowe Very Mario zombie apocalypse of you Magnus, lol 🙂 Sdudyoy I wish Nintendo would start making some of there franchises a little fresher, such as Kirby, I love Kirby games but really they all feel the same, I know Kirby has some of the more unique games such as Epic yarn, or Mass attack, but when was the last main series Kirby game that actually felt new? As for the NSMB series It’s one per console, even though I wish they would add more to it to make it feel new, I played the first one I thought it was cool that they revived 2D Mario (Although easy), but after I played the rest I felt as there was nothing I could play in those one’s that I hadn’t already played in the first game. Donkey Kong I don’t have as much of a problem with as they pretty much just revived the series, but still I wish Retro was working on something else, I know It’s impossible, but wouldn’t it be awesome if Retro could make a Banjo and Kazooie game? As for the Party games, I hate this series, they are all poor Mario party rip offs, when Mario party released on the N64 they where unique, now there are more Party games on the Wii and Wii U than anyone can even play, and Mario party is the only one I actually still play (Although It’s because my younger brother always buy’s the latest game in the series). Nintendo still has good games, alot of them, but they are starting to feel alot alike, Zelda is my favorite game series and after A link between worlds and Skyward sword Nintendo is proving that they want to change up older games more, Super Mario 3d World is great, I haven’t played much due to being pre occupied with Zelda a link between worlds but I finished that yesterday so I will start playing soon. I’m not saying all of Nintendo games are they same, I’m saying the series I mentioned are starting to feel stale or the same. Sdudyoy Honestly I don’t think Sony will fail due to the fact that they are making money from each PS4 (Even though It’s a small amount) plus the fact that the PS4 is sailing like hotcakes right now, the fact is it would be bad for any company to go out of business, I don’t like Apple or Microsoft but I would hate to see them go out of business because than alot of people would go out of job, that’s why I hate it when people want a company to go out of business, that’s just saying you want hundreds of people (In some company’s It’s in the thousands) to become jobless. Fred Wait, Sony is making money on the PS4 hardware? where did you read this? I would have guessed that with hardware that good for $400 they’d be losing money on each console for sure (with the plan of making it back on software sales) Sdudyoy Sorry, I misread the article, it cost less to make than they are selling it for, but that doesn’t count shipping and retail cost. http://www.cnbc.com/id/101212582 Yoboyjohn Oh my god is it an analyst with common sense???people need to realize that Nintendo is in a MUCH better financial position than Sony.nintendo made a killing with the wii while the ps3 brought Sony down hard. Rinslowe It’ll be years before Sony breaks even on PS4 as well, due to taking the exact same strategy again this generation. Only amplified. “Holy last minute contract for 8 GBs of GDDR5 memory per system” let alone other aspects which made their gamble seem just that much stranger this time around, lol. Corporations aren’t all run by silly people. Not even Sony could lessen the scent of leverage that would have hung in the boardroom air of Hynix, Samsung or Elpida’s head office the day that order came through… They literally need a perfect run to turn a profit in the next 2 years minimum. Still from a gamer’s perspective only, they do make and support really good games and franchises. Ultimately making it a compelling potential platform to own… Yoboyjohn Exactly.it also seems that their televisions aren’t doing well either just by judging by going to a store.i remmeber going to pc Richards or best buy 10 years ago and all the TVs were Sony. Now their all Samsung and Sony doesn’t even have a section anymore greengecko007 The PS3 became profitable for Sony after a few years, with consoles being one of their only successful business practices. It’s their other electronics, like TVs, stereos, cameras, etc. that are bringing them down. Rinslowe From memory it was after 4 years on the market yeah? “”We aren’t making huge money from hardware, but we aren’t bleeding like we used to.” This was a quote also from Shuhei Yoshida at the four year mark, made to IGN at the time… greengecko007 Yeah, Summer of 2010. NkoSekirei yea but wen the ps3 launch it suffered a huge backlash on the price and lack of games as well greengecko007 That happens to most consoles, including the Wii U. Squid Truth. Wii is anything but a failure. Fred How do you figure that one? Under what premise can the Wii be considered a failure? NyallJodhan “anything but” = “not” Fred Thanks I mis-read that one Mario I really do not see Nintendo failing in the next 2 years. Robinson Dantas Camila Oliveir If sony depends of the PS4 sales it gonna be in bad hands. I don’t believe they depend of its console industry. They are much bigger than this. But nintendo has to live from it, so they are always in innovation. Thanks god for this. They really have the best videogame. They do not play at work. They are so serious in order to making us play. crocodileman94 While I don’t see any of these numbers as realistic, I think the order they’re placed from best to worst is realistic. Not that I think any of them will fail in the near future. jjbredesen Kudos to the comment section today! Most muture comment section i have seen in a long time. pedro rosado Die SONY!!!!Just kidding it would be bad for gaming Leo DIE a slow death Sony!!! LOL Luca Invernizzi Economy is not something you can talk about without a proper preparation. Stick to videogames. GABRIEL GARCIA Pretty good 😉 Kyle I’d switch Microsoft’s and Sony’s, but overall this is all pretty stupid and meaningless. Nintenjoe82 The Sony-EA apologist cabal that operates out of IGN will never let this article see the light of day 🙂 Deadpool U As much as I would like a Ratchet & Clank game on Wii U necessarily I don’t want Sony to fail M$ however I could take it or leave. wiimenonowiiu It should be based by xbone division and not the entire company if that was the case then xbone would be at 80 percent fail ShinyLatios (Sarcasm mode activate) Nintendo is dooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeedddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yuma Tsukumo Did you even read the article? For your brains sake, I hope that comment was suppose to be a joke. ShinyLatios I was sarcastic………….. Yuma Tsukumo I should very much hope so. ShinyLatios Should have said that eh? Yuma Tsukumo (s) for sarcasm would’ve sufficed :p jrob23 Nintendo has a 0% chance of failure due to the amount of cash on hand, goodwill, and IPs. Seriously, how does this company justify a 22% chance? So stupid. I own Nintendo stock (NTDOY) and I’d rather own it than either of the other if only because it was beaten down pretty badly and is at a more attractive entry point. Moreck These statements about Microsoft prove that whatever methods this company uses don’t consider all factors of a corporation’s performance. Microsoft’s stock (and value) has been on a nose dive for the last few years. They’re decreasingly relevent in the consumer space, and all they really have left is the enterprise. (However, Apple has made HUGE advances in the enterprise, and Google/Samsung have made a small dent, both to MSs disadvantage.) The XBOX division doesn’t make money, which is why Stephen Elop has talked about selling it. They’ve got a tiny slice of mobile and tablet marketshare, which is where all the money is now. I wouldn’t listen to anything these guys have to say. John Pombrio Cripes. Look at MS financials on Google. the company is extremely profitable. NEVER use the stock price as a judge for how a company is doing as the stock is so highly skewed due to the company’s present “bling” in the eyes of investors. Apple the most valuable company in the US? Don’t think so. Elem187 Stock prices don’t mean crap if you can’t even name the multiple it’s trading at. Justin Ordoñez Always room in the marketplace for a motivated company that knows its own identity and makes quality products. As long as Nintendo stays with who brought it to the dance, which is Nintendo fans, they will have that loyal core to fuel their products to the mainstream. It’s tempting to think that big conglomerates like Sony and Microsoft are bullet-proof because they move a lot of units, generate a lot of revenue and are diversified in the computing/electronics market, but that’s such a small part of the story. Nintendo is smart to remain Nintendo. Sometimes you have good fiscal years. Sometimes you have bad fiscal years. Sometimes you have a success right out of the gate. Sometimes you have to claw your way for every inch. Adversity is part of life and business. Losing your identity is usually the long, slow march to irrelevance, IMO. Elem187 I think its time we had a shake out in the industry. It’s a perfect time for Sony to bow out and let Steambox step in. Yuma Tsukumo I knew Sony as a company were doing bad, I never thought it’d be as high as 78% though. I don’t think the PS4 will fail due to hype and knowledge of future games. As a company, I think Sony make a few bad choices (Still manufacturing caset players) but they’re never going to fail because of the impact they have in all the different markets. Microsoft is very surprising. All the policies and DRM that they mentioned put a lot of gamers off. When Microsoft changed their mind and reversed the policies, I believe that was a very smart idea and a good turning point for them. Some people (a small minority) thought that the policies were an okay idea because there were a couple positives in there (the sharing plan) However, the reversal has caused certain gamers to call Microsoft untrustworthy. The Xbox one won’t fail either due to all the typical ‘Bro’s’ and just because Microsoft are pretty wealthy. Nintendo has a very interesting case. People always decide to focus on the bad, they like to point out the poor Wii U sales but we all know, the sales are because of the lack of compelling games. This year, 2014, everyone will see a dramatic increase in Wii U sales, there are so many games to look forward to. Saying the Wii U is doomed is beyond stupid, It’s something only a mere fan-boy would say. The Wii U will not fail, the console just needs time for the great games to be released. John Pombrio Quick. How many quarters has SONY made a profit in the past 5 years? If you cannot answer this, you do NOT know anything about SONY’s financials. It is in serious trouble, losing over $5 billion dollars in those 5 years. Elem187 If Sony fails as a company, the ps4 will fail as well.. It takes capital to support a console. And capital is something Sony is short on…. They had to sell a building to raise capital to support the ps4 launch. Let’s see what the ps4 sales figures are in January and February when the launch hype dies down and we witness people refusing to shell out $460 for a console (gotta buy at least one game) David Noble Did you notice that Nintendo’s 22% and Sony’s 78% add up to an even 100%? The way I look at it is that, likely, one of them fails in the next two years, and with Sony’s CEO owning 2 Wii U’s, I’d say he has enough faith that Nintendo will press on. I would advise him to consider working jointly with Nintendo, as they were intending on before the SNES and PlayStation release. readypembroke That would be cool if they did do that. Sony makes games for Nintendo’s machine while Nintendo does too. If they do that and make the machine powerful enough, bye bye Xbox! Jonathan George Anaya Don’t hate the on the Best Next Gen console. MS is getting ready to release a patch for the X1 which will boost its power by 10% to help it fight against the Steam Machines MS has games. They have Servers. Now they have the money to stay in the Fight (unlike Sony) hahaha readypembroke The typical Xbox person will most likely ignore the Steam Boxes as they cannot bring over their Xbox Live friends over. Also I find it funny that you say it is the best next gen console as Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield run at lower resolutions than the PS4. Plus the Xbox One’s Kinect is basically a fancy spy cam for the NSA. The PS4 didn’t need a patch to use all of it power.. Neither did the Wii U. Also the price for the Xbox One makes it hard to justify a purchase. The Titanfall game relying on MS’s Azure servers make the One look weak. Also MS knew the PS4 was more powerful than the One so they increased the clock speed of the CPU and GPU. Before you call me a fanboy, I have owned a Nintendo 64, SNES, Game Boy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, Wii U, Wii, Nintendo DS, Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Kinect, PS1, PS2, PS3, 3DS and even a Game Gear. I still own all of these. P.S. Your fanboyism is showing and get the hell off of here Xbot. I will eventually get a Xbox One and PS4. Jonathan George Anaya First off: I’m a GAMER. I go where the GAMES are. The PS4 should be called the Indiestation4 because 95% of its games are PS3 ports and indie titles. Why spend $400 for Knack or Flower? Sony loyalists are PHONY Gamers haha The X1 has a learning curve due to the ESRAM. It’s has much less latency than GDDR5 ram and can output to 4K. So, the X1 is the ONLY Next Gen console capable of it. X1 should have been called Xbox4k vs the Phony PS(can’tdo)4k readypembroke The PS4 can output 4K also. Sony has their nose deep into 4K. They got 4K TVs, Projectors, home theater systems that support 4K passthrough, 4K camcorders and even a phone that does 4K. Again, your fanboyism is showing AGAIN. Jonathan George Anaya What screen resolutions will PS4 support? PS4 will support 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p video standards via HDMI output. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/30/ps4-the-ultimate-faq-north-america/ Looks like Phony Gamers can’t believe facts that Sony themselves throw out there readypembroke and 4K. http://www.ign.com/wikis/playstation-4/3D_Technology_and_4K_Resolution readypembroke But neither can play games at 4K. readypembroke Why spend $500 for a fancy spy camera? PS4 mostly has the same games as the Xbox One but the PS4 is cheaper. Xbox One won’t have as many indie games as the PS4 because MS treats indie devs like trash and want alot of money for a single patch. ESRAM does not mean shit when talking about 4K. It is the GPU’s job to create the 4K image. The PS4 has GDDR5 memory and can do 4K. Both can’t play games at 4K currently. Jonathan George Anaya Xbox One supports 4K resolution (3840×2160) (2160p) video output and 7.1 surround sound. Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy for Microsoft, has stated that there is no hardware restriction that would prevent games from running at 4K resolution. Wikipedia. Yet, the official Sony FAQ released days before the PS4 clearly states no 4k gaming. Or media hub support. So, its the PSonlydoes1080p Elem187 Why buy a crappy xBone or PS4 when the lowest end steambox will be pushing 3 tflops for around $500 ? Why limit your 3rd party games on a crappy underpowered console like the ps4/xBone. Both systems struggle with 1080p, and 95% of their games are still stuck in the 30fps ghetto. Steambox and Wii U is the only consoles that will deliver on the promise of 60fps gaming, readypembroke I might get a Steambox but will eventually get a PS4 and a Xbox One. readypembroke Remember that the consoles hasn’t been out for long. readypembroke Plus who gives a crap about 4K? Those sets are expensive and plus both consoles can’t play games in 4K. You are flat out wrong Hah, you mean the 10% they reserved for the Kinect they’re desperately opening up so it at least meets paper specs? Which leaves it still weaker than the PS4 and Steam Machine? Jonathan George Anaya PS4- 8gigs GDDR5 ram Steam Machine- 16 gigs of Ram X1- 8 gigs DRR3 + 32mb ESRAM Two of those output in 4k. Hint hint. The PS4 only does 1080p. So, doesn’t that CLEARLY show the X1 and Steam Machines to be SUPERIOR? PS: Phony has an 80% chance of Bankruptcy. MS has less than 1%. What now? You are flat out wrong First of all, it’s DDR3 RAM and the ESRAM exists to offset the poor bandwidth. If you think that gives it any advantage over GDDR5, you’re probably insane. Secondly the Xbone’s weaker hardware of all of them means that at best it’ll be rendering Pong and Frogger, similar to how all of sixth gen’s 1080p games were smaller games like shmups – no doubt you’ll be trying to push them as system sellers and trying to crawl up to Nintenfriends even though they hate you! It’s best not to listen to Larry’s lies, that HDMI cable it comes with is nothing special considering all of them can handle 4K. P.S. I can’t wait until Elop brings his blessed axe down on the Xbox brand in a year. 😀 Jonathan George Anaya Why would he do that? With Sony going BANKRUPT, there would be NO competition against the X1. MS will have another monopoly on its hands. Like I said before, MS coulds then BUY Sony’s IP when the Shareholders put them on fire sale. Who wins? The MS Gamer. Who loses? Only the PHONY Gamer haha Jonathan George Anaya Be mad at Nintendo. It was the 3DS that killed the Vita. Or be mad at Sony for running their Electronics division to the ground. You are flat out wrong Because many millions would rather go master race and stick with Nintendo than ever touch the cancerous malignancy that is Xbone. Still, on the plus side, if that happens at least the Xbone will finally get some games. Can’t wait for the shareholder revolt that’ll kill Xbox – hopefully Elop will accelerate that happening. 🙂 Elem187 Uhm, there isn’t a patch in the world that would upgrade the xBones power to even 1/4th the power of the lowest end steambox…. Heck the ps4 would be lucky to hit 1/4th power of the lowest end steambox, xBone doesn’t have a prayer. iamserious I hate the power = better system argument. It makes no sense at all. So what if ps4 is more powerful than xbox1 which is more powerful than wii u. That isn’t what matters. The games and the experience as a whole is what matters most. Elem187 No thanks. Sony would push Nintendo into the dudebro sphere. Rinslowe The pie is plenty big. No reason why multiple spheres of gaming genres couldn’t coexist when looking at a Nintendo platform. Pity that third party titles are such a f-n mess as of right now… People either do not support the title or the title flat out does not support the people… It’s a cycle of WTF and senseless. Really wish W101 was a run away success but it’s one of those games where you first have to give into it before you can enjoy it’s quality. And most people today are settling into their preferred genres maybe more so for financial reasons than ever before. Just going with whatever is certain to entertain because when every little thing has a cost, people are less likely to take a risk on something new. In other words gamer’s in general are becoming a bunch of indifferent, tunnel visioned tight asses. And that’s from the outside looking in. Nintendo’s IP’s are that strong that there will always be a core following supporting those experiences. I’m one of those types, as their IP’s are far from over in terms of innovation and creativity. But I’m also partial to “dudebro” experiences quite often on occasion as well… plsburydoughboy Hey, wanted to chime in that that 22 % failute prediction does mean something adverse for Nintendo. Macroaxis explains that companies their tool rated at 15 % or less are likely to be very profitable over the next 2 years So, this means Nintendo isn’t sure to be profitable over the next 2 years, but it isn’t that far off. I think 2014 will be a big year for the console, but more importantly, 2015 is when it will break out. David Horowitz People keep saying Nintendo will either be in the high lead, or completely die out. Those aren’t the only two options in life! It reminds me of my high school, where something either is alright, or it sucks. “This sucks, that sucks, that’s alright, that also sucks.” This prediction is just a glorified “suck-or-not”. “Nintendo has a 22% chance of sucking, and a 78% chance of being alright”. Grow up, people. Quit making high school level predictions. Wayne Beck I disprove of how this article only touches on the potential Failure of the Xbox Brand. I think we all know that Microsoft has more than enough money to exist forever, but the article should have at least touched on the fact that the company is already debating internally about whether or not the Xbox Brand is still worth hemorrhaging money. Rodger Jamjet Awesome! Sony produce overpriced electronics anyway. I’m really not sure why panasonic doesn’t try and get their creative juices following again and produce a gaming machine. They’re over twice the size of Sony with cubic money and have their fingers in so many media pies it’s not funny. Panasonic though do seem to have a relationship with Nintendo from time to time. Just a suggestion … readypembroke Panasonic is in a good spot already. They don’t need to make a game console. Jaiden Edmonds This is stupid, no one cares. Just let us play what we love and that’s games. iamserious Why is there so much Microsoft hate going on in the comments section? gamesplayswill I think why the Wii U sales isn’t achieving its whole potential is due to the fact that people spread bullshit. I remember when the Wii U was about to come out and people were like “OH THE WII U WILL DIE AND NINTENDO WILL GO BANKRUPT” And then there are the Microsoft fanboys screaming on the internet on how Nintendo is for kids. And people carry on the bullshit because of the launch titles like NSMBU. It was a good game, but where was galaxy 2? Or sunshine 2? Nintendo dropped the ball at the launch, however really great games are out now, the damage will take a while to heal. But in a couple of years, I reckon Nintendo will be kicking arse. >:3 I’d like to point out though that I personally had no issue with the launch, but I know some people hated Nintendo’s line up. (I know Nintendo is already kicking arse right now, but meh, Sony and Microsoft will probably have a few tricks up their sleeves) Elem187 I see far more sony fanboys trolling Nintendo than Microsoft fans… Both are annoying, so I would like to see both companies out of the console business….. The market is right for a new player, like Steambox. One that actually cares about consumers. Sony/MS just treats their customers as a meal ticket and nothing more. gamesplayswill Could never agree more. (Apart from the Sony fanboy thing. Both microsoft AND Sony are guilty of it) I was tempted to download the Steam OS but I love windows too much. Might be a bit off topic but I hate it when people assume, we as Nintendo fans, will hate on Microsoft and Sony 24/7 when really it is them who give us crap. I mean, the xbox One actually looks pretty decent, and same with the PS4. They’ll jump all over the Wii U though. Especially at launch. I was envious when I heard about Dead Rising 3. But with our exclusives, they pretend it is god awful. fireheartis1 As a guy who has used Sony Products since the Walkman it would suck if Sony went out of business. I like the PlayStation series of consoles and would hate to see them fail. That’s why I hate fanboys for real. Hipster Victor ….I dare them to post this at the PS4Daily RoyCar69 Most people don’t realize how well the 3DS/2DS and games is selling. If the home game console fails then Nintendo still has the handheld market. Fred And hords of cash Hipster Victor I Dare them to post this at PS4Daily EastOfTheAnduin Nintendo’s chance of failure in the next two years 0% Calculated by using common sense. Elem187 “Macroaxis determined that Sony has a whopping 78% chance of failure in the next 2 years” Cool, can’t wait until this ripoff conglomerate gets out of the console business… I’d prefer Microsoft go first, but I’ll take a Sony departure early as well….. The fanboy tears will be delicious. Watch the arrogance run from their troll faces. TalesOfBS Out of the console business? i hope not. I like them. But yeah, Sony’s fanboys are the worst kind. I think no mater what happens to sony, they will not shut the fuck up. Matt Lambourne What do they mean by failure? As in going bankrupt and ceasing to be? That’s not 22%, that’s 0% Wildman Nintendo has been around since September 23, 1889 and they still have not failed.
