Over the weekend we got several reports that Newegg had two listings for Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. The regular 3DS listing was available, but also a new Wii U version of the game appeared on the website. The release date is listed as 12/31/13, which is typically a place-holder release date for new titles. No announcements from Nintendo have been made about this and a cursory glance at other online sites like Amazon don’t yield any results.

Either Newegg spilled the beans on this release and we’ll see it elsewhere soon, or they’re simply misinformed and someone created some phony box art for a listing on the site. It should be mentioned that the Newegg listing for the page currently has the title for $39.99, which is the price of the 3DS title. Most Wii U releases retail for $49.99 and up.

local_offer    luigi's mansion dark moon  Nintendo  wii u
  • Also note that it’s only 40 dollars. Has any Wii U game been 40 dollars so far? that’s the same price as the 3DS game

    • Noted in the article already. πŸ™‚

      • was that in the original article? I don’t remember reading it… XD either way, I agree with your above comment. about the scaling of DKC3D. not to mention, luigi’s mansion textures always looked a little jaggy to me. Maybe it’s because the graphics are more fit for a larger screen? πŸ˜‰

    • Ducked

And the ESRB rating is just in English. All Nintendo made games on wii u have had english and spanish on the box art lol

      • good eye XD

      • D.M.T

You mean English and French, not Spanish.

        • Ducked

I live in the US, its english and spanish

        • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s English and Spanish in the US. French is very small here. Maybe it’s different from where you live.

      • andrewjcole

I guess it’s English and French for me, since I’m in Canada.

    • Fred

Yes Game and Wario is that price

  • Simon Stevens

I hope it’s true, I loved Luigi’s mansion but don’t wanna have to go out and buy a 3ds for this one, it would be great on Wii U πŸ˜€

    • Considering the original game was a GameCube title, it wouldn’t surprise me that Nintendo wants to release this one on Wii U, too. I mean, they did downscale Donkey Kong Country Returns for 3DS, I could see them upscaling a 3DS release for Wii U.

      • Miguel Angel Barrueta HernΓ‘nde

aaaaand its the year of luigi πŸ˜€

        • Shota

          and its halloween

          • Fred

another legit point that would be cool if it came out ON Halloween

          • Shota

wii u spooky bundle with Luigi Mansion 2 πŸ™‚

          • Fred

Nice idea. Available Oct 31. That would be super cool. Year of Luigi spooky bundle

          • Squid

Or make DLC for the 3DS. I had too much fun with this game.

        • Fred

          LEGIT POINT!

      • Simon Stevens

There’s so many titles from gamecube they can revive, Baten Kaitos comes to mind as a stand out game for me, would love Sega to revive Billy Hatcher too, I can’t see them having much of a problem touching it up and releasing it as Wii U title, right now they need all the games they can get, wouldn’t be surprised to see animal crossing become a cross platform game at some point.

        • D.M.T

Watch this video and let me know what you think. the video has to do with what you said and its just a 1 minute video dont worry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAECsMN27E8

          • leo

geist 2 now that would be cool

        • Ducked

Why do we want more games revived from the gamecube, why not just let Nintendo make a GC Virtual console?

          • Simon Stevens

I want the franchise’s ported over, not the exact same gamecube games, I’d love another brand new wind waker style game.

          • Ducked

I think entirely new games are better

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Amen to that. I just don’t care for cross platforming. I’d prefer a game made from the ground up.

        • TaintedXGamer

Omfg Billy Hatcher HD With wii u gamepad controls….. it Would about be nice if they could bring Jet set Radio to the Wii U as Well!

      • Leo

This seems to be a trend from Nintendo now, they are either upscaling games from 3DS to WiiU or downscaling Wii/WiiU games for the 3DS… the gap between handhelds and home consoles are quickly narrowing.

      • brian murphy

i think it most likely will at some point cause i remember when the wii u was about to come out the wii u version was the first one i heard about then it pretty much dropped off the radar but then again they might of scrapped the idea all together i know the wii u could sure use some top level nintendo only games

      • Daniel Gonzalez

True, but we don’t need a trend of them cross platforming every game either. I don’t see the point in it, but I digress. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.

    • Ducked

Don’t count on it, more then likely its a error.

    • Gregg

The 3DS is WORTH it for this game, and SOOO many others. It’s the best console on the planet ATM. Snag an XL and enjoy. =)

      • Simon Stevens

I bought my son a red n black xl, it is pretty snazzy, I’ve only managed to play and complete 3 games on it so far, mario 3d land, new super mario bros 2 and fire emblem, they were a lot of fun, at the moment I can’t pry it off him though, he plays luigis mansion 2 but doesn’t like it as much as the 1st one, he said the 2nd one is pretty hard so now he spends almost every waking hour on animal cros

and kingdom hearts, I really ought to treat myself to one soon, there’s easily over 10 games that I’m dying to play >.<

    • tomtank91

luigi’s mansion 2 isn’t made by Nintendo and you can tell. The game is decent but it lacks that Nintendo feel to the game. Like the music, Luigi whistling and more, but basically just the little things of what made Luigi’s Mansion brilliant is lost in the sequel.

      • Simon Stevens

That’s how my little one summed it up, he said it lost it’s natural wonder of exploration and didn’t feel like a Nintendo game should, still… I’d like to play it lol

  • Ducked

I don’t think it’s very likely, chances of Nintendo bringing a 3ds game to the Wii U are slim. I wish it were true though, I’d love to see Luigi’s mansion back on consoles, but I just don’t think its likely.

    • Fred

Did the Resident Evil game that was ported from 3DS to Wii U do well on Wii U? Maybe they’re just copying Capcom

      • Ducked

Not really, decent reviews, but average sales.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I think the 3DS version got average sales too didn’t it? Far as I heard, it didn’t even sell a million.

          • Ducked

Yeah I got the 3DS version on clearance at Target for $6 because they were getting rid of it.

  • A_7

Lets hope so, That would be amazing!
This game was meant to be played on a home console.

    • Ducked

I agree, but Nintendo did do a good job using the 3D in the game

  • John Andalora

I’d get that. I don’t have a 3DS, so this would be great!

  • Jack5221

I would love for it to be true. Been playing it on my 3DS and I love it. Great sequel to the original gamecube version.

  • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

    its not a bad idea

  • IBlock

    • John Andalora

      I love the Beatles.

  • Zuxs13

Now this would be great if they gave you the Game cube version as well or you could DL it from the VC at the same time.

  • Ace

I think that this game should have been a Wii U game in the first place as the first installment was a GC title. Needless to say it would be awesome to have this on Wii U. IF it is true I will be picking it up.

  • Fred

Game and Wario is $39.99 so it’s feasible. Capcom ported Resident Evil from 3Ds to Wii U

  • Christian Sutter
  • Fred

Has anyone asked Nintendo to see if it’s true?

  • Matt

Played on the DS and it was awesome, I hope this is true. Day one buy for me if so!

  • david jarman

Omg! Please say it is so!!!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      Could be!!!

      • david jarman

I absolutely loved the first one!

  • Leo

I didn’t play the 3DS version and i was planning to buy it later. If they are releasing a WiiU version then i will choose the WiiU game for sure!

  • The True Gamer

    I don’t have a Wii U

    • Fred

Now’s a great time. 2 bundle options and a GREAT price point!!! Join in on the fun man.

      • The True Gamer

Il probably buy one next year. Once smash bros. Is released, and maybe after one more price drop

        • Fred

Don’t expect a price drop next year. Look at the Wii and the 3DS. It took the Wii like 4 years before it got it’s first price drop and the 3DS still hasn’t gotten a second price drop

          • The True Gamer

Good point. I’ll just have to wait 4 years. πŸ™

          • Fred

No don’t do that, you’ll miss out on all the fun. I made that mistake last gen and I swore I wouldn’t do it again. I bought my Wii in 2010 and my PS3 in 2011 and I regret all the fun I missed.

          • The True Gamer

Ill have to. I’ll buy a Xbox one or ps4 first, then Wii u, then which ever system I didn’t buy first. I got a 3DS, so most of my Nintendo needs are met for a while, especially with pokemon x and y releasing Saturday

          • Fred

enjoy man. Have you tried Fire Emblem on your 3DS? That’s my favorite 3DS game.

  • Paul Wright

reddit says that this cover was made from divent art.

  • Madmagican

They did it with RE Revelations, why not Luigi’s Mansion?

  • Dylan Tosti

Halloween announcement, calling it. It can’t be the “Ear of Ruigi” without a Wii U game!

  • Jeffrey Debris

If it’s true, I want it to be a new game, not a polished version of the 3DS game…

  • Miles “Tails” Prower

If this is real I hope it’s different from the 3DS version. If so I’ll be buying it.

  • I always thought this title should have been a Wii U title from the start. I loved the original Luigi’s Mansion and have Dark Moon on my 3DS but would much rather have it on the Wii U as I prefer to play games on my big screen TV when I can.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

I think the game should stay on the 3DS. I don’t think every game needs to be cross platform.

    • Michael Ocampo

I don’t mind this one coming to wii u at all but I just hope that they don’t do this a lot in place of new games

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Agreed. I just don’t want to see this become a huge trend and do this with every game. Cross platform works for some games, but not needed in all.

        • Michael Ocampo

Apparently its been a mistake that newegg made… it would’ve been kinda cool though. Oh well. At least it won’t take away any development time from other awesome games. πŸ˜€

  • Yousif Alromaithi

I could see it happen. Maybe not this year but next.

  • Josiah Parsons

That would be epic. Especially if there is added multiplayer.

  • Mario

This looks a bit fake. Don’t you guys think?

  • e_rocket

    that would be great!!!

  • John Andalora

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Newegg took down the Wii U version.
Not as sure that Nintendo is coming out with it…
Which is a shame, because I would’ve bought that game.
    = (

    • ICHI

It was using a fan mock up of the box art so probably just assumed it was coming by accident.

  • jreed3842

Now… I would totally be excited about this game. IF it’s different from Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon… I mean, I LOVED Dark Moon… but I don’t see any point in buying the same game twice. So unless it’s vastly different, I probably wont invest in a Wii U version.

  • Mochlum

Just… no… would a port of a 3DS game really be the best thing to do to help the Wii U? Maybe an original Luigi’s Mansion, but a port? Really?

  • Spike Ashford

Honestly would prefer if Fire Emblem Awakening came to Wii U over Dark Moon. Call it blasphemy, but I hated Luigi’s Mansion on Gamecube. Amazing it even got a sequel on a handheld, let alone a HD port.

  • Andrew Longo

would be good on wii u but i still just wish they hadn’t made the game split into missions. i miss taking my time exploring the mansion and discovering new things that was the whole reason the first was such a classic. i really didn’t care for being dragged in and out of the mansion every 10-20 minutes for nothing

  • fabian

i was thinking that they would release one more luigi game on Wii U as it’s the year of luigi, but i would rather see a whole new game than a port.

  • JVAN63

It is no longer on Newegg’s site.

  • Jacob D. Taylor

I wouldn’t mind seeing this but it would be hard for me to dish out $$$ for a game I just recently purchased. I didn’t get DKCR on 3ds either, mostly due to the fact that I had just purchased it for Wii in late 2012. Offering the same game on multiple systems doesn’t warrant any interest from my part. Now if it was upgraded to say, allow me to use the Wiimote as my flashlight and I had to pull it left and right and the Gamepad was my Duel Scream then I’d be more inclined to purchase it. If it’s even real of course.

  • devmiles

a polished 1080 HD version of the game with some extra’s would be a good asset to the wii-u’s library but i doubt it…and as always..postponing postponing, poor communication, marketing strategically poor nintendo..

  • Wiiluigi

Please no! How about Luigi’s Mansion 3 on the Wii U??????

  • leo

I would buy it, come on it’s luigi
