A new commercial released in Japan embraces the Luigi Death Stare the internet exploded over with the release of Mario Kart 8. This is perhaps the first time Nintendo has actively used a meme about one of its products to advertise the product itself. Check out the mean look Luigi gives Baby Rosalina in this commercial and let us know if you’d like to see the same commercial released in North America or Europe!

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I expected a lot more Luigi screen time

    • matthew garcia

This death stare is out of fad already this will no longer have any effect

      • Epicstuf

        Well, it still is.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s not that big of a death stare to me. I guess the fans need something to hold on to.

        • matthew garcia

Yeah they could have chose something better then that to cling on to.

        • Rinslowe

Was it fans that made the commercial or the article? You’re not making any sense. The trolling is becoming weak sauce at best…

      • Keith D. Witherspoon

Hey better now than later. The game has only been around for about 2 months, they probably just wanted their older commercials to go through their last couple rounds before dishing out their new commercials. So from a business stand point, this actually came out pretty quickly because usually a company would ride out the same commercials for at least 6 months.

I expected a lot more coldness in his stare

  • William Cole

The year of luigi isn’t over! I still need Paper Luigi!

    • That would be pretty awesome, actually. Especially if it utilized the sticker aspects of Sticker Star for something entirely new.

      • William Cole

The only reason I’ve said this is because I just want to know what he’s doing during Paper Mario TTYD. He keeps telling these bizarre stories that just seem believable for him.

Naw brah I need that Luigi’s Mansion for Wii U. lol

  • Ducked

This ad needs to come to North America and Europe. Luigi death stare is just beginning.

  • Merry_Blind

That’s awesome. Not capitalizing on that meme would have been such a waste. Glad to see they know what’s going on on “ze internet”.

  • Josiah Parsons

I always look at Baby Rosalina like that. Probably the lame-est character.
Also, Luigi was driving my favorite setup (Luigi, Mach 8, Slim wheels)

    • Aidan Dawes

      PinkGoldPeach is the lame-est character.

      • Josiah Parsons

Nah. she has a serious bling factor. Baby Rosalina is a loud character made more whiny. Ugh.

  • Nathan C.

The Japanese know about the Death Stare too? Wow.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

Imagine if the Luigi death stare is a move Luigi can use in the next smash bros. It would insta KO everything on screen

    • beez1717

Naw. He’d just give the death stare just before he initiates his psychosis.

  • Jackson five

That was kinda cool. That song was trippy, sounded kinda like something Mike Patton would do. I guess I haven’t seen the death stare too much except when it first came about and was pointed out , and I don’t usually play as Luigi or watch too many highlight videos, so I’m not burnt out on the death stare just yet. But yeah that commercial put a smile on my face.

  • Razo_E

It’s a meme, but it’s not like they ACCIDENTALLY added a death stare. It was programmed from the beginning. Glad they’re acknowledging it, though.

    • SolarShane13

They programmed it as a means for viral marketing.

  • ZeldaFan83

I don’t think this was really about Luigi’s death stare but how every character looks at you when passed.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

He looks a bit angry, but nothing that expresses death in it. 😛

  • anthony optimo

That song is fitting, when I hear it I’m reminded of triumph. Like the triumphal return of gaming standard.

    • Prizm

It sounds like “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban.

  • AkaLink77

I thought the music would go completely dark and scary once it got to weegee.

    • Prizm

I was expecting that too. It would’ve made the commercial 10x better if they did.

  • Rinslowe

Liking the new look Wii U Daily…
Or am I just imagining things like our resident concern troll’er rockin roller?!? Lol.

  • SolarShane13

    Wait, what?

We get these CGI filled crap ads aimed at kids, yet Japan gets actual GamePlay-focused ads? Europe gets not only more games in the free game promo, but an actual pre-order bonus. Europe also gets actual platinum rewards while we get easily bought games. I guess us Americans really do get treated like shit!

Oh, and Wii U Daily, your new mobile website sucks! I can’t scroll to read the stretched out article.

    • Shootdatrupee!…

The Americans have had a lot of special offers as well. We Australians, on the other hand…

    • Prizm

Our Aussie wii u premium site and rewards are garbage, and our eshop games are $80 ($75 USD!). Although yes, we did get a selection of 10 games for the MK8 promo. 7 don’t really appeal to me though.

    • great deku tree

you’re forgetting though that technology in general (including game consoles and so on) cost far more over here in the UK than in USA.

  • Adam Porter

mariokart is the most fun i’ve had online with a game ever. and i’m starting to really get into miiverse, especially the bottles in wind waker, i think they implemented it perfectly into the game using the pictograph. i love it, i’m loving my wiiU more and more every day now.

  • Asavarii

5700 Yen? Dang, wish we got it here for $59.50 in retail 🙁
