Yesterday we showed you the launch trailer for Warner Bros. Interactive’s new title, LEGO The Hobbit. The game will be launching today on other platforms, but the Wii U version will not be released until April 22. According to the press release, the Wii U version will be launching on April 11 alongside the other versions in the UK, so we’re unsure why this just pertains to North America if that is the case.

While the delay is only about a week, it still stings that every time there is a third-party release, especially from Warner Bros. Interactive, it seems as though there’s a delay or features have been removed from the Wii U version. It’s hard to keep accepting excuses that the Wii U isn’t doing well, as the LEGO games have traditionally done well on the platform.

Does this delay affect your purchasing decision at all?

Weird Last time I checked this delay was for Europe only

    • NintendoFan

      That’s the Batman e-shop game I think

    • I also heard that the game comes April 22nd to Europe, which seemingly means that US version only is delayed I can’t follow it anymore tbh. I’ll get the game in the week of the 22nd here in Europe, looking forward to it, then Spiderman next.

  • J_Joestar

They need extra time to gimp it so they have more excuses to look down on the Wii U.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Gimped or not, it probably won’t sell to their expectations. You seem irritated.

      • RichM

Everyone seems to forget the the TT games actually sell well on Nintendo Systems. However, I have to agree that if you delay a game on a platform, it hurts the sales on that platform.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

On the Wii, they did. On the Wii U, however, they’re poor. Even Lego City Undercover couldn’t hit a million.

          • nexxus6

Lego games have been selling decent on the WiiU. Undercover is nearly at 3/4 of a million (730,000). I am sure Warner Bros isn’t disappointed with those numbers, especially since it came out in early 2013, basically putting it in the launch window or close to it.

    • Dan

Later they’ll say “Our game didn’t sell well at all on the Wii U, it’s all clearly Nintendo’s fault even though we stripped the port of features that could clearly work on Wii U but we decided not to because we’re lazy retards.”

  • …Why? What possible reasons could they have to delay it for a week?

    • Vriska Serket

Like a production or shipping error, may8e.

      • I guess. Kinda convenient that it happened to their least favorite system >.>

  • rfisher1228

Good…the Wii U has plenty of new games to choose from.

  • ActivesiN

personally I don’t care about this game, but not having a reason for delaying it a week behind the other versions is some bs

  • greengecko007

So I guess there won’t be anymore comments about how 3rd parties can’t expect their games to sell well when they delay the Wii U version since even Nintendo is doing the same thing with Super Smash Bros?

    • jrob23

nope. there really shouldn’t. If Nintendo can’t be bothered why should others?

    • Ultrasyd

Hehe yeah, I thought the same. Smash Bros / Watch_dogs, same kind of delay 😀

    • RyuNoHadouken

Nintendo didnt delay anything…they never set a date…they always said “2014”…get your facts straight…smh

      • greengecko007

So when they announced both versions of the game side by side last year they intended for fans to assume that the 3DS version would come out first?

Let’s be real, the Wii U version is taking longer than the 3DS version, and is delayed because it’s still far from being completed. The argument that Nintendo wants to capitalize on holiday sales is faulty because by releasing with only 11 days left to spare in 2014, they are already missing Thanksgiving break, Black Friday, and people that don’t wait until the absolute last minute to buy Christmas gifts.

  • jjbredesen

I am beyond the point where i care now…

    • When it comes to third parties they only delay their multiplat games on the Wii U. It happens so much it can now be considered a feature of 3rd party games on the Wii U. They should just make a special edition for Wii U versions of their games and call them “Delayed Edition”

    • I’m sure there is some reason for this delay…
I have no clue what the excuse is however. So to playa both sides of the field..
Warner Bros? More like Warner OH BROTHER.
      And also
      Nintendo? More like NINTENDONT.
      please up vote me

  • DragonSilths

Warner Bros….nuff said. They are the next EA to stab Nintendo in the back. And a week or so delay is nothing.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

How did they stab Nintendo in the back?

      • greengecko007

They didn’t drop everything and waste their own money to pick up Nintendo’s slack when it comes to supporting the Wii U.

      • DragonSilths

Someone’s forgot about Batman Arkham Knight. All because Origins was shit.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I haven’t. Though, if you’re gonna just say they stabbed Nintendo in the back, at least explain it. Plus, Arkham Knight was a business decision. Despite that Origins was gimped, Arkham City on Wii U, wasn’t and still sold poorly. So I can understand why there is no Wii U port. To each their own there, but I don’t hold anything against a company as it’s their company and have a right to their decisions. While I don’t support the reason that Rocksteady gave, the obvious reason was that the last two weren’t profitable.

          • DragonSilths

Warner Bros is huge, then can afford to make less on a Wii U port. It wouldn’t hurt them much.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Fair enough.

    • Vriska Serket

You may have gotten a 8it over-dramatic at “stab nintendo in the back” It’s like a one week delay, hardly all that damaging. 8esides, its just a licensed game really.

      • DragonSilths

I mean with Batman Arkham Knight not being on Wii U do to Origins selling poorly on Wii U, and now this. My point was Warner Bros has begun turning its back on Wii U and Nintendo.

  • Chris Langreder

Cancelled my pre-order, gonna pick it up used, no way I’m giving them my money after they keep screwing wii u over. there’s no reason for them to keep getting my money

    • Ultrasyd

Come on man, this is just one week. This is exactly the type of comment I dislike reading. For one week. Will you say the same about Nintendo when they release Smash Bros on 3DS long time before Wii U ?
Do you know how long was the delay in Europe for Scribblenauts Unlimited ? MONTHS and months.

      • Chris Langreder

Two weeks actually, it was supposed to come out yesterday and no sites released information nor was I informed by my game store. It’s not of a lack of knowing. And it’s not the delay that’s the reason, it’s that it made me rethink my purchase and realize I don’t want to give my moneyto a company that takes money for dlc, decides not to release it, doesn’t give refunds, then act like it’s Nintendo’s fault after they just took it upon themselves to offer refunds for wbs mess up. I’d rather get it now on ps3 or later on wii u for a fraction of the price and my money go to a local business.

Also as much as it upsets me, Nintendo never delayed smash, it’s just coming at a later time for whatever reasons. Maybe it’s because they are perfecting it and the 3ds version was easier or maybe it’s because they think it will sell more systems during the holiday season. Solongas i get another bug game, hopefully Zelda, I’m five with waiting, even though it stings, because at least i know Nintendo has a good reason for it

    • NyallJodhan

Man, y’all are a fickle bunch. When I see comments like these I fear developers would just tell us Wii U owners to suck brick and do without future games. And you want third party support?

      • Chris Langreder

I already bought two wb games on my wii u, I was screwed on one of them. Arkham origins is what pissed me off. I’m just glad I didn’t buy it. If you’re going to release a game release a fully functioning one and if you’re going to sell dlc, you better actually release it. If a game doesn’t do well on a system, then don’t release future games on the system, but don’t screw over the customers that have you money for it, it’s disrespecting, dishonest, and even criminal to take money and not give someone what they paid for.

As for other 3rd parties, I plan on buying Ubisoft games along with Sega and any other 3rd party publishers that don’t downright screw over their customers. Heck even Activision has more support for me and EA if they keep getting better, support for the wii u or not. I’d rather a company not support a system, than steal from them

  • Adam Fox

There is nothing wrong with the Wii U hardware….its the pathetic delays of multi-plat titles that are harming it…..games sell the most in their first day of release and for a couple weeks, sells slow down……unless the only console someone has is a Wii U, they will likely pick it up on other consoles rather than waiting until the 22nd for the Wii U……and this is really hurting the Wii U and making it look worse and worse…..The Wii U is a fantastic console and the ONLY one of the three “current-gen” systems that isn’t plagued with massive game installs just to play the game, tons of “updates” for the game and tons of micro-transaction games……its the way a system should be…turn it on, put the game in and play it……

    • Ultrasyd

Pathetic delay of multiplatform ? Well, can we count Smash Bros as a multiplatform ? DK was delayed too but is not multiplatform.

      • Adam Fox

I don’t count Nintendo IPs….b/c it is ONLY on Nintendo Platforms…..other games have gotten delays too, even multi-platform ones such as Watch Dogs….but look at games like Rayman, it was supposed to be a Wii U exclusive then it went mutli-plat and was delayed……I know games get delayed, but delaying ONE console version is just BS and makes the one system that gets left behind look bad…..

        • Ultrasyd

You know, “Wii U architecture is so special’, that’s why 😀 Even Nintendo has to take more time for developing on Wii U !
I think that the case of Smash Bros is exactly the same. There are several versions, Wii U will come last. It’s just see that people don’t wanna miss an occasion to spit on 3rd aprty developers :'(

        • Ducked

Watch Dogs was delayed on Wii U because it would have came out three days before Mario Kart 8

    • Ace J

i got a ps4 and the installs aren’t as bad as you make it seem. it takes less then a minute to install infamous which is like 21 GB if i remember correctly. and there were a few games on the wii u when i put a game in and it needed to “update” before i could start playing.

  • Ultrasyd

Well … everyone complain because games are not correctly ported to Wii U. If they need extra time to make something decent, why not ?
Even though I think it’s not for that purpose this time. Oh, by the way, it’s only 1 week, while Smash Bros is delayed until winter on Wii U … by Nintendo 😀

    • Colt Lokk

smash bros isn’t delayed. Nintendo said 2014 before and now they’ve narrowed it down to Winter 2014….meaning it’s NOT delayed. You can’t delay something when they’ve never actually given a release date and what they said was in their 2014 release window.

Yes, the Wii U version is coming out after the 3DS one, probably because it takes longer to develop games on the Wii U (HD and all that stuff) than on the 3DS.

Besides, everyone expected that smash bros would come late 2014, it’s actually a pleasant surprise that the 3DS one is coming so soon.

But in general, Nintendo does delay games a lot. Like DKTF or Pikmin 3 or SSB in the past.

  • Googs

    What a surprise.

  • Vriska Serket

    Honestly, I aint even mad.

  • RyuNoHadouken

i played it on PC…shits wack anyways

  • Rinslowe

    That’s not so bad….

  • steveb944

Well it’s a good thing Nintendo doesn’t delay Wii U games relea….. Oh wait they do that now also

    • Everyone has game delays but it gets frustrating when a game is a multiplatform game and the delayed version is ONLY on the Wii U. Hard to not think there is a conspiracy going on when it keeps happening only on the Wii U.

From now on all 3rd party games for Nintendo are Special Editions called “Delayed Edition”

  • Dark-Link73

I thought I saw this game for sale on the eShop last night. Maybe was just a place holder.

  • Paul Martin

I’ve had this pre-ordered on Amazon since early March. Saw it out in stores for every other console but Wii U today. I can wait the 11 extra days, but it still ticks me off. Same with the Batman: Arkham Origins DLC cancellation. That’s just wrong. With Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. coming this year, hopefully things start turning back around for Wii U.

  • Haniball

I’m downloading this right now from eshop. I live in Sweden though.
