Another week has gone by and that gives us a chance to look at how new games and consoles are doing in Japan. The PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan on February 22nd, so it will be interesting to see which of the launch games for that system Japan prefers. Here’s a look at the software and hardware side of things for last week. Software Sales [PS3] Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Full Boost (Namco Bandai, 01/30/14) – 269,940 (New) [PS3] Diablo III (Square Enix, 01/30/14) – 41,727 (New) [3DS] Kirby: Triple Deluxe (Nintendo, 01/09/14) – 39,166 (392,457) [PSV] Disgaea 4 Return (NIS, 01/30/14) – 33,749 (New) [PS3] Sengoku Basara 4 (Capcom, 01/23/14) – 30,202 (206,515) [3DS] Yokai Watch (Level-5, 07/11/13) – 27,670 (373,199) [3DS] Puzzle & Dragons Z (GungHo Online Entertainment, 12/12/31) – 26,125 (1,326,903) [3DS] Toushin Toshi (Imageepoch, 01/30/14) -23,036 (New) [PSV] Epikore+ Amagami (Kadokawa Games, 01/30/14) – 20,159 (New) [3DS] Pokemon X and Y (Nintendo, 10/12/13) – 14,950 (3,925,609) Hardware Sales 3DS LL – 26,042 (26,484) PlayStation Vita – 20,457 (21,498) PlayStation 3 – 14,100 (13,360) 3DS – 11,420 (11,745) Wii U – 8,072 (8,490) PSP – 3,366 (3,428) PlayStation Vita TV – 1,789 (1,792) Xbox 360 – 260 (260) local_offer Japanese sales Nintendo wii u stars Further Reading Confirmed: Breath of the Wild is the last Wii Switch vs Wii U game case size comparison Miyamoto dismisses the Wii U as a “nece 6 reasons to grab a Nintendo Switch before March 6 reasons to skip the Nintendo Switch for now Nintendo Switch Amazon Pre-Order Nope.avi Looks like it won’t take long for the PSP to start outselling the Wii U again… Schultz38 The Wii U’s sales are still dismal. I’m ready for some 20,000 per week (with game release being much higher) sales numbers! But when there are no new games, why buy the system? Obviously the games that are already released aren’t enough to sell the system. I know I probably sound like a broken record, but c’mon Nintendo. Where’s the games? On a side note, it’s surprising to see the Vita doing so well now. The Vita and 3DS are living proof that the Wii U can bounce back! Luciano I couldn’t agree more. Magnus Eriksson Discontinuing the Wii U would be the best here IMO. Then Nintendo could make games for PS4 and XBOne instead. Its much better for us consumers. Frankie You have to try harder if you are going to troll people, that was not even funny. Shy Guy Come on, even I saw the sarcasm in that one. Magnus Eriksson And still its true. It would be better for us consumers. Buying a console only to play Nintendo franchises is not good. It spure logic. Maybe you have some feeling for Wii U, and you dont want this therefore. But thats illogical. Nintendo should do a SEGA, and drop out of console biz. They are outdated now. Frankie And Sonic has gotten increasing better since it became third party. Donaald I see what you did there Marcus Larsson Still dont understand why they dropped the good games like shenmue… Nobody likes sonic Magnus Eriksson Good point. I wont probably buy Nintendo games when they become third party. Marcus Larsson The only bad thing about that would be to little competition and whichever company that had all the games would force us with xbone-rules. But in fantasy i would of love to have just one console with all the exclusives and third party-games Shy Guy Fine by me, if that happens I’ll just stick to classic consoles and ignore future console generations. In fact I’m getting pretty close to that as it is, all this business talk and arguing over resolutions and framerates, and complaining about how this console or that console doesn’t get this 3rd party game nobody will care about a year from now or that DLC that was an overpriced scam in the first place…. I’m finding nothing kills my desire for video games more than reading video game journalism and the opinions it generates. Easier to just go back to pre 2000 consoles, fewer online based headaches and the whole blast processing vs mode 7 debate is way more entertaining than which console can play which games at which resolutions and what framerates. Magnus Eriksson I can respect this alot. I kind of feel the same to be honest. 🙂 darkcreap Try to be more subtle when trolling. If too obvious people do not even answer. Trolling is an art. Not that I am a master, though. Nevertheless, your tone was appropriate. Not sounding too angry as it is too obvious, but also saying something that people dislike so you get people’s attention. Being too aggressive at the beginning is a deterrent I think you would have better chances if you just say “I think Nintendo should go third party” or something like that. But don’t mention discontinuing the WiiU, people are not buying that (too radical). I think it would also help to say things that are not constant topics. “Nintendo is kiddie” and “Nintendo should go third party” are very much used. I think that the right spot for trolling is saying something that causes certain controversy, but not too obvious so you get answers and then start a chain of responses. Then, when they are engaged, you can go all in and be less diplomatic. By that point they should be infuriated enough that they will answer regardless how radical you sound. PS: I guess I should not be saying these things here… tronic307 Then, if Wii U = Saturn, the next Nintendo console = Dreamcast (both stellar systems, by the way). No way in hell Nintendo will do that, not unless they want to lose consumer and retailer confidence. Magnus Eriksson They would gain confidence in their games, and that should be a priority. Also PS4 offers them much more possibilities than Wii U does. They could also focus more on the games instead of all other bullshit they are engaging in. matthew garcia Lol hey I paid 350.00 for my wii u they better not discontinue it. There gonna have bad sales from now on probably but give us loyal customers who stuck with u the games we want still PS4/WiiU LOL!!!! readypembroke What I am thinking right now and is true: http://i.imgur.com/4UiFU.gif simkenno Hahah LOL Magnus, you just get more stupid every time I see you. Let me try this in a different way and you see if you can spot the stupidity… : I don’t know why anyone would buy a ps4, like I can play all 3rd party games on my Xbox ??? Seriously Sony should just stop the Playstation Consoles now and sell their exclusive games to Microsoft and Nintendo. That way its better for us consumers ! – Now doesn’t that seem stupid Magnus ? If you want to play Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Smash Bros Etc then buy a Wii U in fact buy Nintendo products in general, or just live without them simple. Have a nice day Magnus 🙂 Magnus Eriksson Yeah, I can spot the stupidity there. First of all you dont know correct punctuation. Second, you use too many question marks in a sentence, and write a space between the last letter and the first question mark. simkenno haha someone is butthurt lol Magnus so very sad.. ZeldaFanzzzz THIS COMMENT IS WHAT THE FK!!!!!! Daniel Gonzalez That was the point. The_VeryBest The games are coming. Just relax. You can’t just magically poof games into existence. It takes time, and a lot of time to create a quality product. Nintendo is working surprisingly fast. I mean when Smash Bros. was announced, nobody thought that it would be released this year. On top of that there’s Mario Kart, and maybe even a new Zelda. All of these games will boost WiiU sales, maybe not by a lot, but boost sales all the same. So just relax. Play League of Legends while you wait. Schultz38 I’ve been “relaxed” for a year and a half. Give me games!! If Nintendo was so unprepared on the software front, maybe they should’ve just postponed the release of the Wii U altogether so as to have a steady flow of games when it did release. For real though, Pikmin 3 was supposed to be a launch title. We didn’t get it for 8 months AFTER the release. That’s ridiculous. DK was supposed to be a Christmas release…2 months later….. BTW, I’m more of a DOTA 2 fellow myself. 😉 Shy Guy I’m not sure if you understand how Nintendo releases work. Nintendo games aren’t your garden variety 3rd party “get it out there as fast as you can to make that cash now because in six months nobody will care” sort of games. First party Nintendo games are like a fine home-made apple pie, if you eat it before it’s ready it won’t taste as good, hell you might even get burned, so you let it sit and finish developing and in the mean time enjoy the smells, because if you’re gonna rush a home made apple pie why even bother with it in the first place, you might as well just settle for a frozen pie that’s quick to make and is what it is. Schultz38 I’ve been a Nintendo fan for a long time. I understand the quality behind their games. That’s why I suggested Nintendo to have waited on the Wii U’s release. That way they wouldn’t have a lack of games and they could retain their quality. You seem to think that Nintendo can’t supply a steady flow of games and have quality games. That Nintendo has to choose either quality games OR steady flow of games. I disagree. Nintendo SHOULD be able to have a steady flow of quality games. We know they can, we’ve seen them do it on other consoles, so why not do it with the Wii U? Because developing takes too long? Then I digress to my original point that Nintendo might should have considered waiting on the Wii U’s release. LightupmyLife Development takes so long due to them not preparing for HD development. Makes you wonder what they were doing for 5-6 years. Lol. Schultz38 Exactly. Shouldn’t they have been researching and working on HD development a while ago? It’s not exactly new technology. LightupmyLife Yep. Something they should have foresaw long ago. Why should us fans be patient for their incompetence? Lol. It’s no wonder third party is moving on to the Xbox One and PS4. Fans can’t keep using the excuse that third parties are lazy. What does that make Nintendo in this situation? Arobadope Making games for the Wii obviously. LightupmyLife So that means their research and development team should stop researching while the Wii is running it’s cycle? You do know it’s their job to keep up with newer tech, right? As I said, there’s no excuse for Nintendo not being up to date at this point. Bottom line is, they screwed up. It’s nice of Iwata to admit that, but as gamers, we don’t want excuses, we want our games. Please understand and please be patient only work for so long. 😉 Arobadope R&D doesn’t develop games. Clearly you have just shown you don’t know what you are talking about and are an idiot. Thank you. LightupmyLife Where in my comment shows that I was pertaining to R and D developing games? The last part pertains to Nintendo’s game drought which has nothing to do with what I talked about in the first part of my post. There’s a reason why there’s two paragraphs. Clearly you just shown you don’t know how to read. Lol. R and D researches and develops new technology and new innovations. So again, what part of that did you not understand? So what was the excuse for the R and D team to not keep up to date with HD development over the years? None. You just prove exactly what you accuse me of. Nice job making yourself look like a fool and not understanding between researching and developing technology and development of games. This should make it easier for you to understand. If you can’t comprehend this, then I’m talking to a wall. 🙂 matthew garcia Exactly thats why I believe dk is a sidescroller and not 3d and mario3dworld is linear and not mario galaxy. Its faster to develop the games and they needed games fast Arobadope Someone clearly never played 3d World. matthew garcia I own it and its nowhere near as big as galaxy Arobadope ….Clearly you never played it. John Andalora Much like Game & Wario, a game with 12 different mini-games, 10 of which would be bad even for a mobile phone service and the other two being pictionary and the only good one. Yeah, yeah I know most Nintendo releases aren’t as bad, but if people are going to rattle on about how Nintendo is nothing like the garden variety developers, they need to at least accept that Nintendo has made similar mistakes. Magnus Eriksson Wii Party U was really bad too. Wii Fit U was mediocre and offered nothing that justified it to be released on Wii U. Guest http://i.imgur.com/4UiFU.gif Magnus Eriksson oh, yeah trolling… those two titles got trolled over the whole world with an average 6/10 review val berger Did you play Wii Karaoke U? Every other game plays like a wet dream compared to this mess ;D Daniel Gonzalez Good luck with that. val berger That’s true for sure. But today it just doesn’t work that way anymore. Its not like traditional business models can’t work in 2014, it’s just that a company should be more aware that the time has come to do so. Nintendo shouldn’t do a Nokia, being too proud to not see that the world has changed before it’s too late. And at the moment, it’s quite a very typical pattern of companies like Nokia. Then again, I don’t really know how often Nintendo died in the mouth of the people who just didn’t believe in them. It’s a damn old company that may have been through quite something, still they just really need a major revamp. With the Wii it looked like they totally understood that. Your money Guest is right, it is better for a game to take it’s time to make improvements. We don’t want something like Sonic 06 (that abomination) to happen again. Carlos Webster They’ve already “broken the cycle” so to say by already revealing the DKC:TF commercial. It should be obvious they’ll do the same with the games, especially since they said there’s a lot of them that haven’t been announced yet. val berger Look at the state of Nintendo and the WiiU today and tell us again to relax. I really love the WiiU, it’s the most fun system I ever had. But what is this good for if they are just always massing everything up? It’s really annoying. And if you are opne of those poor people claiming that games will come now and then the systems gonna PRINT MONEY then gooooddamn you’re really livin in a dreamworld bub. From here it’s just about making the best of it. Sure, the WiiU can still reach a state where it’s somehow throwing out some profit, gaining enough software, some OK userbase and so on. But thats it. That’s the best possible thing that could happen, only if Nintendo can now keep the games rolling without everyone to have to wait 6months between every release. You really think we should lean back and wait for those great games to be released? Well, welcome back in 2012. If the current lineup would’ve been about 12months earlier, THEN it would’ve been like it should be. Now there’s a different train to reach and I can tell, its not a relaxing one. darkcreap I think that the lesson here is that handhelds sell better in Japan. See that PS3 is selling better than WiiU, but not great numbers. We’ll see what happens when: 1) Nintendo releases games (Donkey Kong Country is the next one). 2) What happens after the launch of PS4 and X1 in Japan. The launch week will be very high, as general in consoles, but we will see afterwards if they sell so hotly. If after launch they sell much better even with no immediate game releases, then we’ll see if the tendency is confirmed. I expect to see more sales once the big hits arrive. The problem is that Mario Kart comes in May and Super Smash Bros afterwards (I think). Donkey Kong Country is a very good game (I love them since the SNES era), but I do not know if they are so popular as to be system sellers like the Mario games. Schultz38 My worries are the same with DK. I do think the sales will increase with the release of DK, but it won’t be as substantial as with Mario. Personally, I think Nintendo should have left DK as a Christmas release alongside Mario and had other things planned for January and February. Shy Guy One does not rush Nintendo games, I’m glad they took two more months to polish the game up a bit more to make sure it plays that much better. Schultz38 Sure. I am too. But does that excuse less games at Christmas when they needed more games? I have a high standard for Nintendo because they’ve proven to me time and time again how amazing they are. I just want them to live up to that. Shy Guy Ah see that’s where we differ, I try to avoid imposing high standards on most things because it inevitably leads to disappointment when it doesn’t live up to them and I end up on websites bitching about it. Schultz38 Lol calm your tits bud. If you wish to like a company with no personal expectations from them, go for it. I on the other hand choose to want bigger and better for and from my favorite video game company. Shy Guy Bigger and better is bankrupting smaller video game publishers and resulting in a consolidation where just a few large wealthy publishers remain that only buy and release the same sequels and remakes over and over… good luck with that, I don’t see how someone can claim to have high expectations and yet still buy into that sort of business model. Schultz38 What? Your comment doesn’t even make sense. I never said any of that. You’re completely reading into what I said. Bigger and better can mean a myriad of different things. It doesn’t have to mean more money. Dj To be honest, a LOT of people are just waiting. I’ve seen it on comments on IGN and Youtube where people are saying they’re just waiting for smash and MK8. So i’m expecting a high rise in sales once those games drop. LightupmyLife I don’t think a few comment sections make up 10 million or more people to buy MK8 or Smash. Lol. While it’s possible, don’t get your hopes up. Dj Over time though it can add up. Not to 10, or even one million, but still it can raise sales LightupmyLife Indeed. Though, if not one million or 10, then sales spikes will be short lived. That’s not good for Wii U, especially in a 5 year cycle. Schultz38 I have faith in Nintendo. I’m certain the Wii U will do fine. For us early adopters, however, I must admit I feel kind of cheated. I could have waited a year, bought the Wii U for cheaper AND gotten better games. Dez Obviously things aren’t going to pick up until the new software launches. Donkey Kong is next up and ships around the time the PS4 lands in Japan. Then the rest is a bit more vague, but Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8 are due for Spring with much speculation of May release dates. Smash Bros is probably in the fall with X probably late November and probably a lot of other titles Nintendo has kept quiet about. Too early in the year to expect much at this point, it needs more software for sales to go back up. Nintendo is still undergoing some restructuring as far as I can tell and they are working a lot on some titles that haven’t picked up much steam. Wonderful 101, Sonic Lost World, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, etc. didn’t sell as well as was hoped. The software drought was made worse since these didn’t catch on too much. That doesn’t excuse how slow they’ve been with more desirable titles though. Still not sure how the Vita is selling in any capacity though, it has suffered a game drought since inception. val berger On a system behaving like a broken record, you obviously can’t sound like one =) It’s a strange thing with Nintendo. It feels like there shouldn’t be such a big deal to get something right but then again, nothing’s ever good enough and there’s always a huge gap between every release. Nintendo really need to rethink their whole business model. Not like they just do. Push reset and think about what’s their strength. They did so with the Wii and it worked out. They obviously didn’t do that with the WiiU. matthew garcia Wow thats not good for its hometown. Why always japanese sales and never american sales. Are they that bad to where they dont even want to mention them ? Frankie North American sales do not have an official tracker like the Japanese ones. Websites like VGchartz track sales, but have estimates so people do not believe it is a reliable source. VGchartz is fairly accurate though so you could look there. And the Japanese sales are so low because they have so many less people. A good opening week in Japan is selling 100,000 units. In North America 100,000 units is a terrible first week. matthew garcia Still doesnt make sense though that the ps3 is outselling it and its over 7 years old in japan. tells me that those sales are still bad Frankie I never said that sales weren’t bad. Anyone who never bought a PS3 can now buy one for cheap and has a huge selection of games to buy, unlike the Wii U which has a small collection of games, and look at the best selling games 3 of the top 5 are on PS3. Games are coming out for it so people are buying. matthew garcia Then why is ps4 about to pass wii u lifetime sales Yen The PS3 thing is because there are still NEW games being developed for it in Japan that they want, one in particular was release around the week this chart was recording. PS4 is about to pass Wii U (I don’t even think that’s true yet) because launch hype plus better advertising strategy and 3rd parties abandon Wii U to start ass kissing PlayStation. matthew garcia Nah its true just research it. Ps4 already passed wii u in the uk a while back Yen PS4 passed Wii U in the UK a while ago… matthew garcia Yeah sony as a company is not doing good but the playstation division is doing amazing. Ps2 has the overall sales record of any console but if the ps4 keeps up the momentum its on track to shatter that Yen Uh… I never said anything about how Sony or Playstation was doing? But if you want me to comment on it, PS2 did so well because of the DVD player, which at the time period means the PS2 was a better value than buying a regular DVD player, so there were people that bought a PS2 purely to use it as a DVD player. Which honestly, good for them, that justified putting the DVD player in the PS2 many times. But PS4, I think it needs more than what it currently offer to become a record breaking console. Playstation Now might help but I think it needs something more to beat PS2 sales. Just my opinion. matthew garcia Like I said I didnt say it was but its on track to beat it. And ps2 was more then a dvd player it had a fantastic variety of games and my favorite genre are rpgs. They had alot more then gamecube had Yen None of it really appealed to me back then I guess. I personally really enjoyed the Gamecube’s library. I also didn’t mean to say that the PS2 only had a DVD player going for it, I just meant it helped the PS2 get the record. Frankie Exactly, the PSP still gets games and the PS2 did for most of the PS3. Frankie Because PlayStation is more popular for home consoles. The Wii outsold the PS3 but Sony won the other two in terms of sales, and the PS3 has been killing the Wii in game sales the past couple years. More people want a Playstation 4 then a Wii U. It is that simple, does it mean one system is better than the other no. matthew garcia Your right it comes down to preference but for the companies im sure they prefer to win if they can Zuxs13 PS3 also had two big new games come out this week. So it pushed the sales up. matthew garcia So an old used up console Like ps3 still gets great support to keep sales up and wii u a fresh console barely has anything to push sales. Not good Zuxs13 It has two brand new games on it. both are on the tops of the charts. Its hardly a used up console its still selling well and continues to get all the new games. darkcreap Because they are managed by different companies that publish the numbers in different periods. For the USA there is a company that does it monthly. “Wow thats not good for its hometown.”. Yes, but have into account that PS3 is also selling slowly (13K PS3 vs 8K WiiU). The only thing that seems to sell OK are the handhelds. We’ll see when the new games come out for the WiiU. We will also see what happens when the PS4 and X1 release in Japan and after. There will be a lot of sales during launch, but we will need to see afterwards. matthew garcia I see that but ps4 is about to outsell wii u and ps4 has only been out since november. Its not just japan its international and wii u is just not doing good darkcreap Yep, in that sense I agree. WiiU does not sell well unless a good game comes out. PS4 and XboxOne sell well even if there are no good games for them, because they have better third party support and better long term perspectives (people think that a game they will want will come sooner or later, so they will buy it regardless). Marcus Larsson Why do people downwote u? Its the facts… Dont read if you dont want to know! LightupmyLife Most don’t want facts on here. Just people who will call the Wii U the console of choice and why you should buy it. Frankie I like seeing the sales charts. Wii U daily should make it a weekly thing. Dark-Link73 Critics are comparing the Wii U to the “failure” that was the GCN. Heck, at this rate I don’t think the Wii U will even match the GCN in sales. I personally don’t care. I bought over 25 must-have retail U games on the first year (too bad the U doesn’t have games, imagine if it did, lol!) and I’m looking forward the upcoming games for this year. Let’s face it, if Nintendo ever leaves the console market and goes multiplatform, that will be the beginning of the end for console gaming. That day I’m fully embracing PC gaming. Mario That’ll be the day I stop playing video games in general. Dark-Link73 For a moment I was thinking the same; however, over the years I have amassed a game library of over 400 titles. So even if Nintendo were to stop making games, I have enough games to keep me enjoying Nintendo gaming for another 30 years. 🙂 Mario Good for you man. Good for you. darkcreap I think something similar, but let’s also face that there will be good games somewhere. There’s a life beyond Nintendo. LJay Yep,i’ll just trawl through all my old games finish them and get more old games-if Nintendo give up i’ll never buy another system ever. darkcreap Yep, agreed. I do not see much differentiation in the other consoles: in those consoles multiplatforms sell the most and a lot of multiplatforms are in PC too, so why having two identical consoles that get almost the same games as a PC? Actually, PS4 and X1 are like PCs since they have an x86_64 architecture. At least Nintendo consoles get very good exclusives that you will never see released for either other console or a PC. I also think that Nintendo is the only one betting for doing something different. It is too bad they are the underdog. Without it, the videogame platform would be much greyer. Maybe it is because I grew up with Nintendo consoles, but I am not attracted at all by the other systems. If Nintendo would disappear, my only alternative would be gone. I also played PC games when I was younger, so my preferred combination is Nintendo+PC. matthew garcia Dude I have other consoles and theres great games on all of them. I love uncharted and the last of us and mario 3dworld all together darkcreap Not questioning that there aren’t good games in the other consoles. What I do not know is if they would be my cup of tea. If there are not exclusives I want, I prefer a PC. tronic307 Every major Wii U release will need a hardware bundle if this keeps up. Where is the SM3DW bundle? We also need one for DKC:TF! Rick Valenta How did Wii U do in NA over the holiday season? Shy Guy It did very well, lots of people bought them for their kids and themselves and now lots of people are sitting around enjoying Wii U games and streaming videos with a touchscreen remote. matthew garcia Honestly I dont know anybody besides the people on this forum. Out of all my friends im the only one with a wii u Shy Guy Same, but I’m tired of video gaming seeming like it’s become about quarterly fiscal reports and sales figures, so I was attempting to show their is a simpler way to look at it that appeals a little more to the right brain and a little less left. I think that’s kind of one of the big qualms I have with modern games in general, video gaming used to be a right brain activity that encouraged abstract thinking an creativity, now it seems like video games have become predominantly left brain oriented with lots of hard statistics and sequential formula based gameplay. matthew garcia I agree with u but u have to remember video games are entertainment and entertainment is business. Sales is money and they gotta have it Shy Guy This is why indie will inherit the entertainment industry… It seems the only people left that actually care about making innovative and highly experimental entertainment for the sake of the art and not the dollar are independents who don’t hinder themselves with worries about whether or not their bloated AAA titles will make enough to cover the bloated AAA costs. By keeping things small, they avoid the pitfalls that make art more about business than the actual art. The sub market even has it’s own checks in place where by when an indie developer becomes too big and turns into a corporate developer, another indie developer moves in to take their place while the bigger developer goes bankrupt or sells their company to another company attempting to compete with the bigger corporate developers, then once that happens they can return to their roots and keep making the sort of simple art they should have stuck with in the first place. Is it any surprise than that big name studios create their own “independent divisions” to try and cash in on emerging sub markets their business practices created in the first place? Wighead These numbers are not good… WiiU is down, PS3 is up and considering that PS3 is still over the WiiU before the release of PS4, it is bad. Furthermore, there is probably a lot of gamers over there that would buy/replace a PS3 but are waiting for the PS4, so those PS3 numbers could have been higher if the PS4 wasn’t release soon. Ninitendo needs those good games soon or at least show/tease us with them to hype the WiiU. A lot of people bought the PS4 strictly out of hype. Nintendo should learn how to hype their product and stop thinking that they can promote their product with “people playing the games will promote the console to their friends and they will buy it”. No, you need to make the people think that they are owning something special, a must. Refusing to show your product everywhere, not just kid chanels, refusing to show your big games everywhere, not just on Nintendo direct, is refusing mass appeal or refusing to create a buzz around your product. Some companies are spending more or almost more on avertisement than on the product itself (cars are a good example) why not Nintendo? People are stupid, they will buy things that they saw in a commercial, even if they don’t need it. Lots of studies shows that in front of a product of the same nature, people will, most of the time, choose the product that they saw in an ad over the product that they don’t know to well or didn’t see advertised. Well all that to say that Nintendo has a lot of promoting job to do. Guest The bigger picture is slices of the pie for products reaching out for our media consumption is shrinking with so many options today. tablets / laptops / streaming / wiifi connected everything life. Tonight? I’ll stream something on Netflix though my apple TV to my TV with my ipad mini in hand / bluetooth stereowill be playing music in the background through my smart phone / write n email on my laptop / maybe a little 3DS in the end… years ago we would ust do one thing at a time and we were more excited and devoted to certain devices. Shy Guy Many of us still do… LJay Bloody amazes the sales of both of the x1 n ps4,theres absolutely nothing stand out about them what so ever, yet everyone is singing there praises and buying them. Shy Guy Exactly, it’s like consumers have reached a point where they expect everything to be so similar and devoid of innovation that it actually seems to upset them when something isn’t the same. People that know me wonder why I usually stick with old music, old movies, and old video games, they ask me why I bother with that “old stuff”. It’s because when you live in a period where everything is more or less the same and anything “new” is just more recycled versions of what existed already, it only makes sense to stick to the things that all the reconfigurations were based on in the first place. ben They both did an awesome job of hyping their crap. However, the backlash will begin against those consoles too. Consumers are already going to my brothers store and complaining, “Where are the games for PS4?” So I think both the Xbox and the PS are due to have some serious number sales fall offs in the next few months. On the plus side I think we can expect sales of the Wii U to slowly increase as the software library increases. On a totally different note, don’t you think they should have named the wiiU the super DS? The wii itself had become a brand that had a bad image, towards the end of its life cycle. Jonathan George Anaya Don’t lump the X1 with the PS4. Out Now: Killer Instinct. Dead Rising 3. Forza 5. Peggle 2. Halo: Spartan Assault. Crimson Dragon. Out Soon: PvZ Garden Warefare, Titanfall!!!, Watch Dogs, the Crew, Theif, and Halo 2 Anniversary X1 made by Gamers, for the Gamers Jonathan George Anaya You don’t understand because you never bought one. The X1 is the only device that stays on ALL DAY for me and my girl. when I want to game, I load up Killer Instinct and vo into matchmaking. While its looking for the perfect opponent, I can jump to Youtube and stream whatever Christy wants to watch. When the X1 alerts me that I found someone at my skill level, I resume beating their ass for 90 seconds then rinse and repeat. Truly Next Gen games and Next Gen experiences LJay Well i feel ive played and seen enough to comment on them just like everyone else has and tears up about the wiiu, would be pointless for me to have on all day as im at work!,maybe the games are not good enough if you’re getting distracted by youtube-cause i know i dont! lol,if thats next gen then count me out,i only bought it to play games and as everyone keeps saying nintendo is not next next gen and keeps re hashing old ip’s-i had Killer Instinct on my SNES n N64!! You know when Rare WERE Rare-its nothing new just a media box with fancier graphics and(currently)weak selection of games-itl come good just not just now Rinslowe Wii U still selling respectfully compared to before Mario Party released. Hopefully DKC TF provides a boost when it releases soon. 🙂 Yuma Tsukumo I feel as though the Wii U will always have slow sales until a first party or second party (Bayonetta 2, Monolith’s X) game is released, Then it will spike and sell a ton and this cycle will repeat. I bought my Wii U day one and have very high hopes for all the games this year, they are all sure to boost sales. PatcherStation It’s laughable how long Nintendo takes to publish games. People bang on that it pays off, but many other quality games don’t take as long. Most of Nintendo’s games are passed on to other developers. Same old franchises, wafer thin new franchises and basically hardly any games each year. As for Sony, the PSP just keeps going, Vita is dragging along, PS3 and soon the PS4. PS TV looks like a bad idea. Can’t see how PS Now will keep going along with PSN Plus. Gamers only have so much money to spend. Shelling out for line rental and broadband also. Gaming has become way too crowded and expensive. Oh, and rip off DLC.
