It took Nintendo nearly a year to announce availability of Gameboy Advance games on the Wii U virtual console after advertising it in a Nintendo Direct from early last year, but yesterday we got confirmation that North America will be getting a handful of games come this April. That’s great for Nintendo in terms of keeping up on their promises, but the not so great thing is that two of those games were already given to Nintendo 3DS early adopters in the Ambassador Program Nintendo set up after the retail release of the Nintendo 3DS.

What makes this blow worse is the list of games that are heading to Japanese owners in April, which is a considerably longer and more varied list of games to be released at the beginning and end of April. Thanks to Siliconera for publishing the full list, but this leaves us asking, when is America going to get these quality games on the virtual console? Nintendo has continually eaten away at the goodwill from their fans by trickling virtual console releases on the Wii U instead of bringing a solid selection of titles each week.

Which of these games do you want to see hit the North American and European eShops sooner rather than later?

April 3

Advance Wars 1+2
Golden Sun
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World
Wario Ware, Inc. Mega Microgame

April 30

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Mario Tennis Advance
Metroid Fusion
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Wario Land Advance

    • leo

      I wish

Metroid Fusion… shut up and take my money !!!!!!!!!

  • companyoflosers

why tell us whats coming out in japan? tell us whats coming out HERE. tell me what is relevant to ME!

    • CharmanderRulz

You don’t see people from the UK complaining that most of the news is aimed at the US plus these game can give hints to what’s coming to the US and PAL since they share some of the same announced games so far.

      • ScrewAttack

I’d complain, but it’s pointless and a waste of breath.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I just complain for the hell of it.

      • bizzy gie

        This is a U.S. site.

        • CharmanderRulz

and yet Google of Japan and UK are US sites. Nintendo is a Japanese company so expect some of there news to affect the US.

      • companyoflosers

most of the industry is based in the US with a decent noumber over in the UK but still not as many. usually what they announce for the US is the same as what happens in the UK. USUALLY. the same cant be said for japan. japan’s industry and the western industry are two entirely different beasts. what happens in japan could be completely different from the rest of the world since the two markets dont completely agree with each other. a good example would be those shonen jump crossover games where all the characters from shonen jump are in the same fighting game regardless of series differences. we dont get that in the US and probably wont for quite a while even though im sure people would enjoy it. i dont want any room for doubt or debate when it comes to getting myself hyped so when they announce whats going on in japan, it is automatically not relevant UNTIL they confirm it for the western market. i see no point in them telling me whats going on over there unless they are damn sure it will happen here. the UK has no room to complain when news is centered on the US market because the US and UK markets are the same thing in terms of localization. what happens in the US happens in the UK when it comes to games. thats why you dont see people from the UK complaining in the first place.

        • Tim van Broekhoven

Please stop talking about the UK only. There are more countries in Europe you know.

          • Lee

they were talking about the uk , japan and the US. if you want to include other countries feel free.

          • companyoflosers

same thing goes for most of europe as well. i just said UK specifically because th other commenter brought it up. pretty much all of europe an north america is the same in terms of what games we get. japan not so much

        • CharmanderRulz

Even if we ignore the huge flaws you said such as “the US and UK markets are the same thing in terms of localization” we get many different games, prices and dates. (to release a published game in the UK it must be fit you the PAL region with about 5 main languages and then go through a different rating system)

the Earth revolves around 99% of the mass in our solar system known as the sun; you are not the sun and nor is your hipe. People come to this site from all over the world to hear about a Japanese console so expect Japanese news as it affects the platform. You can’t read about the Japan tsunami and say it has no impact on the rest of the world. Be it that’s an extreme case even this gives indentation to what we will get and many want to see it.

      • Swampert Master

Very true, Nintendo originated from Japan so it would seem fit to post articles about news in Japan too. Although it does make me a little jealous!

    • Donaald

      What? Wii U Mad?

    • LopsidedPasta

I’m more concerned about the lack of Pokemon games on this list. The GBA Pokemon games were by far the most coveted games. And since there is no way to experience the Hoenn region except by playing on a GBA cart on a very old system, you would think that games like Emerald would be their top priority.

      • greengecko007

Especially since the internal battery on those games ran out a few years ago. The games are still playable, but time based events like shop sales, rare pokemon outbreaks, etc. are no longer triggered.

      • companyoflosers

their way of solving that is to remake it like they have been doing like they did with heart gold and soul silver. they hold their pokemon games in higher regard and are more likely to keep that trend with games like that. we will likely see remakes of all gba pokemon games as 3ds or ds games and sold at full retail price rather than them just porting it to virtual console or whatever they are calling it now for half price or less.

    • val berger

because there’s a SLIGHT chance these games might come out in the rest of the world as well?

  • Fred

    I want both kirbys
    Minish Cap
and even though I own both I”m sure I’d buy both Advance Wars games (although I’m hoping for a new 3DS advance wars here soon)

  • Daniel Gonzalez

I’m gonna take a guess that most of us here don’t live in Japan. So how about reporting news that is relevant to this sites demographic? Like you know, North America and Europe perhaps?

    • peeer

Still interesting to see what they get before us, and specially what to expect in the near future. I don’t see why other news sites can talk about this and not Wii U Daily… All peoples do on this site is complain and complain this is getting redundant.

      • TCar

Can’t you point out an article recently that stated sales figures from somewhere other than Japan?

        • peeer

What does sales figures has to do with an article that talks about “upcoming” games? Really I don’t understand what you mean at all, I don’t see where you trying to go here. For your information, this “japan” GBA virtual console games list for Wii U is on polygon.com and all kind of non-japanese website like that.

          • TCar

Did you even read Daniel’s comment? It doesn’t mention anything about “upcoming games.” My point, since it needs to be spelled out, is asking for you to provide information about a single topic, sales figures, that is about someone outside of Japan. This falls in line with what Daniel said, “reporting news this is relevant to this sites demographic?” It isn’t a matter of where the content is coming from or who is reporting it, it is quite simply the lack of information that pertains to the area most of the people on this site reside.

          • peeer

Did you even read this article that Daniel commented on? Even if it is not “specific” as you say, it is about “this” article in particuliar. What my comment is about which was directed to “Daniel btw” was on the subject this article talks about. Whatever you trying to say is out of the subject as it is “not” related to this article in question, that was my point when I replied to you earlier.

But sure, if you trying to change subject we can talk about sports while at it. 😉

          • TCar

Of course I read the whiny article this comment was written on. I didn’t change the subject, you had done that already. Daniel’s was more specific to the overall reporting of Japanese news while yours narrowed it down to this article. When I commented, it was bringing it back to the original comment of Daniels questioning why we don’t have more news about American and European game releases and sales.

Directed at “Daniel btw?” Who comments with their opinions thinking that only the person whom they are writing to will be the only one to reply back! If you don’t want people commenting on your comments, don’t comment!

          • peeer

American news? Did you even paid attention to Wii U daily yesterday? European? dude… Wii u daily been all that American and European most of the time, how many times you read about a japanese news around here compared to american/european news? You make no senses at all. And you saying I change subject. Okay… Whatever makes you feel happy.

          • TCar

Holy crap dude! My point is that we hear sales news about Japan, where are the sales figures for America? Gheez, everyone knows what was released yesterday in regards to American news. This whiny article about how we aren’t getting this full list and how Nintendo is hurting their faithful fans is just plain stupid. This article attempts to piss people off because we aren’t getting something that someone else is. This makes us US gamers look whiny and I for one am not whiny! So what, they aren’t releasing these games, get over it! They have their reasons and that’s fine by me!

Why do I want to know how our sales are? Because, when our sales are better and we have data to prove it, the games that are absent from our lineup may just start rolling into stores.

          • peeer

I think you may have missed the article that was posted just after this one about japanese upcoming games from Ashley King again. Here: http://wiiudaily.com/2014/02/january-npd-numbers/

By the way the NPD never release their sales numbers like the japanese MediaCreate do. I don’t know why its like that but its like this and there is nothing we can do about it. But you should see the Europe market… It is even harder to get sales reports from that market as it is a much more complexe market, and NO it is not Wii U Daily’s fault. 😉

Other than that, there is nothing I can say that will change the fact that Nintendo japaneses are more spoiled than America and Europe for games, its always been like that. We only get the system first (I mean before Japan) they get the games first unfortunately. ;(

Sometimes they even get games we never get, so… 😐

          • TCar

Good response and yea, I saw more Japanese news about sales and such. Really wish the states and Europe would get their act together and figure a way to communicate these figures to the general public. The Japanese are spoiled though, that is for sure.

          • peeer

The thing is that they do these sales charts to sell them to game companies so they can keep a track record of their sales compared to competition. If they would dump all their research informations for free to the public there wouldn’t be a reason for game companies to pay to get them. Thats why they only show the top 10 software sales to the public. NPD used to show console sales in America too like MediaCreate do in Japan at a time but they decided to stop releasing them to public a few years ago.

      • Graeme Lynch

It isn’t interesting it is annoying to know Nintendo are as usual not giving a shit.

    • This is relevant to the site’s demographic. In six months from now when Nintendo announces a new batch of GBA games for the Wii U virtual console, there’s a 99% chance they’ll come from this list. Honestly, I don’t know why I bother reporting on Wii U news as a whole because all people do is gripe if it’s not for their region. You got a splooge of news yesterday including your GBA games coming to your region. This is what’s happening in other regions. Deal with it.

      • gerb1977

They have nothing better in their lives to do then complain…..must be a horribly bitter life they lead.
Thank you for the update Ashley — It is great to see Golden Sun on the Japanese list…..hopefully that makes it over here sometime this year

      • peeer

When they get their news too late they complain and when they get something to read, even while admiting it was cool, they still complain that wii u daily can’t make difference between news and feature and yet its them that didn’t read the category in the grey box on top of article lol.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          I know right? It’s awesome.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Most of use are here because we like this site, its writers and the people here.

          • jjbredesen

I use it because of the comment section and to laugh at John Kingley XD

      • Daniel Gonzalez

We have a right to voice our opinions. So you know there are going to be people who will not be pleased, such as myself. Until I see these games in North America, I will voice my honest opinions. Would you rather me lie and say I’m okay with it? Besides(here comes the sarcasm)….

      • desgraciado79

There is a comments section so we can voice what we like or dislike. You chose to report news on this site, right? Well, deal with it.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Exactly. If she can’t handle criticism, then maybe she chose the wrong career path. That’s in basically every career. Indeed, she needs to learn to keep her professionalism and take the criticism, positive or negative.

      • Guest

Fuck this site. DEAL WITH IT.

      • Magnus Eriksson

I would love to see your thoughts about where it went wrong for Nintendo this gen. Could you write an article about it? When did you lost faith in Wii U and do you think there is hope? I would love to read it, and I guess many thinks the same.

Btw. We appreciate the work you do here, very much.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

As do I. Most of her articles I have no problem with the exception of a few such as this one. Though, if she’s gonna get irritated over what posters have to say about some of her articles, then maybe it’s time for some time off. Reporting news doesn’t come without criticism. Lol.

      • TCar

This article really sounds like a whiny article. To much opinion for me.

  • desgraciado79

    Japan…Yay for Japan!

  • Byrong1

Can anyone explain to me the point of releasing Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World on Wii U VC?

Isn’t that re-releasing a re-release that was already re-released on the VC as the original SNES version, not the Gameboy Advance re-release? Seriously Nintendo!

Are there any actual differences in the games though?

    • BooDiddley
    • Dan

I don’t understand that either. Here in the US were getting “Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3” which was also a re-release. Why not just release “Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island” since we already have SNES games anyway. Makes no sense to me.

      • Virus6

Apparently it has something to do with the FX chip in the SNES. Yoshi’s Island uses it. Nintendo hasn’t released any game that uses it on the VC.

    • Keyser

The differences are minimal and probably don’t matter to most people, but I was actually holding out on buying SMW, as I prefer the GBA version and I was hoping they would release this one as well, so yay for me I guess 🙂

  • Lil J Moore

SuperStar Saga, Minish Cap, AND FUSION at the same time. Why can’t they do this for us?

  • beerkin

The question is. Wil GBA games fill the gamepad sreen? Probably not!

    • devmiles

no, i hate that too… they add or spend nothing new to it.. so you’re better off playing it on a good fullscreen upscaled emulator

  • Screamin Mime

An Advanced Wars U would sell quite a few consoles!

  • Michael Legault

    Golden Sun please!!!

  • WiiUPS4

Nothing i want so far and some of them i already but give met metroid zero mission and i will be happy

  • CEObrainz

Metroid Fusion will be mine as soon as I can get it!

    • Joey

Mine, mine, mine all mine, you cannot have it 🙂 just joking.

      • CEObrainz

I’m building a collection of Metroid games, I’ve “gotta buy ‘Em all”.

        • Mithiragi

Just get the actual game if you’re building a collection man. It’s great to show that shit off lol. I’m actually building a retro game collection myself.

    • jjbredesen

Already got it on 3DS (ambassador program) and it is fantastic, a must play for any retro metroid fan!

      • Fred

You 3DS ambassadors make me jealous. I was still in college when 3DS came out so I didn’t have the time or the money to play video games. Now I’m all in but even though I own a 3DS and an XL and more games than most ambassadors I still can’t even buy those games. I’m fine with you guys getting them for free, but i’d at least like to be able to buy them

        • jjbredesen

Yeah, it sucks for you guys, perhaps you will be able to get them once we get a homebrew for 3DS??

Great thing about being Ambassador is that my 3DS will be worth more than a non ambassador 3DS in the future 🙂

          • Fred

It already is worth more. I’ve considered buying an ambassador 3ds on ebay

          • jjbredesen

Go for it, if you get one from the same region your XL is from you can transfer the ambassador status to it, making it even XL more valuble than the one you bought.

Do you think it will be a colllectors item in the future? (like Virtual boy) don’t think there is more than 200k abassador units in the states.

          • Fred

Like I said I almost did, but not that the games I really wanted are going to come to my Wii U via GBA VC I probably won’t ever do it.

  • RedRocBoy

Golden Sun!!!!! What the hell fam. Why we not getting these games. This is crazy. Did anyone see what we got this week. Virtually nothing, Super C okay but they have ridiculous roster f games. Why are they drip dropping these games in America. Golden Sun. So much sad. :’-( Why Nintendo Why. L love you so much.

  • Nookling

I hope Minish Cap comes to USA because Id like to play it

  • Leo

    Golden Sun!!!!!!!!!!

  • Donaald

And this is why the Wii U is doing ok in Japan only…

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Thank god Nintendo is doing the right thing but what about N64. man I love Nintendo.

  • Mithiragi

I already have some of those games on my 3ds. I also have some vc gba games that aren’t even on that list because of the Ambassador’s program. Metroid Fusion and Minish Cap are kickass.

  • MetroidZero

    Can’t wait!

  • Gauru Shiro

Imagine what would happen if pokemon came out…

  • LightupmyLife

I don’t get why GBA games are coming to the Wii U VC. It would fit in better on 3DS/2DS.

  • Ace J

I LOVE Golden Sun! I lost it a long time ago. so i’m glad that it is coming out on the wii u VC.

  • Johny

metroid fusion and minish cap. im getting that shit

  • Cahone2

Why not release 3ds games on Wii U?

    • Mithiragi

  • ETeach

Advance Wars and Golden Sun are two I’ve always wanted to try but never have. I didn’t care at all about this when they announced it yesterday, but now I’m actually kind of excited.

  • Fuzunga

Makes no sense to me that they’d have GBA games on the Wii U instead of 3DS. None at all. They should do GBA on the 3DS and GameCube on the Wii U.

  • Møhåmmęd Jårmøn

They better bring all that shit to NA if they know whats good for them!

  • Graeme Lynch

Golden Sun better be released as that game was beast.
Sadly I long ago lost my physical copy but it would be awesome to replay it! Finally a game I am excited about! Sadly a game I played over 10 years ago…Something is wrong here…

  • Tim van Broekhoven

    Jajajajjajaj MC

  • val berger

that’s FINALLY a good VC Lineup. I skipped Minish Cap, so I may be getting this as soon as it comes to Europe.

I can recommend Metroid Fusion as it really stood out as one of the better 2D Metroids

FZero on the GBA was fun back in the day, but I don’t think i’t buy it again, especially because there’s the SNES version already available.

  • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

I REALLY NEED A WII U RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • readypembroke

WOOOO!!!!! Wario Land Advanced or A.K.A. Wario Land 4 in the U.S. and Europe!!!!!

  • Froakiefan8

  • TrueWiiMaster

“That’s great for Nintendo in terms of keeping up on their promises, but
the not so great thing is that two of those games were already given to
Nintendo 3DS early adopters in the Ambassador Program Nintendo set up
after the retail release of the Nintendo 3DS.”
How is that “not so great”? Most current 3DS owners never got those games, and nobody got them on the Wii U. It seems like the writer has a personal problem. She might as well be complaining that the Wii U got VC games that were already on the Wii.

That said, I hope America gets a lot of the games Japan’s apparently getting, especially Advance Wars (though whether or not I bought them would depend on the pricing).

  • AAAkabob

  • Will.F. Martinez

3ds already have gba, though wiiu would be getting gamecube vc games by now

  • tronic307

Metroid Zero Mission pls! Also why are the Japan VC lists ALWAYS jealousy-inducing?

  • Super Buu

    This list makes me drool.

  • jake

Ill take Golden Sun, Metoid Fusion, And The minish cap.

  • Ralph Ortiz

Damn! Nintendo is now turning the Wii U into a Gameboy. First it was the Wii, what’s next – Gamecube?. I bought not one but two Wii Us to play Wii U games, not Wii or Gameboy.

    • William Cole

Seriously, I wouldn’t mind if they did it on 3DS but Wii U? I want to take the handheld game on the road not 25- feet away.

    • devmiles

milking cow business…. and not even add some new features to the game, no updates, no fullscreen etc.. same old same old.. they remain good games but i refuse to pay so many euro’s to fund nintendo’s nothingness… make fucking wii-u games

  • devmiles

emulators guys, ever heard of those.. 10 times more tweakable too. again..milking cow business.. hate it. do something friggin’ new already.. no wonder this console is a friggin flop

    • Virus6

Because no other console releases classic titles.

I can emulate games just fine too but it doesn’t make it right to pirate games. Some people actually PAY for items.

      • Adix22

But you can actually buy a game ,and run it on emulator? Nobody said about pirating them…

      • devmiles

i’m pretty sure you will understand that this way of doing business makes people angry and sick. i’m getting so fed up with this VC shit. IF you release VC do it proper, fullscreen, adaptation, some freshness, not just 10/20 year old games. I haven’t turned on my wii-u in like 2,5 months and all i see is like nothing new.. 3 VC shit titles. From that perspective i say yes, all the roms are available… let’s not let nintendo rip our money that way and play it even better. Focus on new games, nintendo has been seriously lacking that since release.. I hope Sony and Microsoft piss all over them with their new systems so nintendo can seriously learn from that. I’ve always been a big fan..but playtime is over, step into the game else they might end up like sega. Believe me, any company can fall..eventhough nintendo has cashflow to fail for like 10 consoles.

  • Victor E. Medley

  • William Cole

Watch, we won’t get Pokemon, I promise you.

  • Blake Good

Why are they releasing Super Mario Advance 2 and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land when Super Mario World and Kirby’s Adventure are already available for download. I can understand K:NiDL since it’s an enhanced remake of Kirby’s Adventure but SMA2 is just a GBA port of Super Mario World.

  • Einar

The ones I’m most exited about is Minish Cap and Superstar Saga.

  • Bluppipla

    Europe didn’t even get mentioned

  • Lucas

    MOTHER 1+ 2

  • Lucas

    MOTHER 3
