A new week means a new look at sales of both software and hardware in Japan. This week Japan saw a couple of new software releases, including Kirby Triple Deluxe, which has topped the charts for its release week. The Nintendo 3DS continues to dominate the top ten software sales, with seven of the ten slots belonging to Nintendo’s handheld.

Only one Wii U game managed to break the top ten and keep its foothold, with Super Mario 3D World sitting nicely in the tenth spot. Hardware sales are down as well, but that’s to be expected after the holiday season.

    3ds still dominating sales O.o

    • Ryan Michael Riñon Nillo

I’m pretty sure that even some Sony fans will say that the 3DS is the current undisputed king of the handhelds haha

      • kevin

Yep, while the wiiu is glass joe.

        • Mario

      • Mario

        All hail the king!

  • Ryan Michael Riñon Nillo

Huh..that ship reminds me of the one that rammed me in Kid Icarus

    • Squid

      That’s Kirby’s return to dreamland.

  • wo2! i know that hardware sales get very low in January… but.. so down all the consoles?

    • looks like Kirby is a fun game to play

    • kevin

They say that but ps3 is still selling better. Its a way to make everyone feel better.

  • D.M.T

All systems sold like crap last week but 3DS is still on top.

  • Madmagican

Home consoles sport really low numbers in Japan. By the way, I saw at VGChartz the numbers for the week ending January 11th. It seems PS4 and XBox One are still selling quite well, while WiiU is not selling so hot. Definitely, it needs to gain more traction. It seems that after Christmas it has gone down while the other two are still selling good. 3DS, like PS4, is selling OK too.

    • Carlos Webster

Um… the xbox one isnt selling. It only sold 107,000 units in the week of January 11. That’s worse than what the wii U sold the week before that.I’ll bet even if the xbone sells 40,000 units globally you’ll still say that it’s selling

      • darkcreap

Yes, but in the same week WiiU sold 53K, even worse. Nevertheless, it is a slow month. We’ll see how well when DKC releases. I am willing a new Nintendo Direct to see more detail about when certain games are arriving.

        • Carlos Webster

You’re missing the point. I’m just saying the Xbox one isn’t selling as well as you said in your other comment.

          • darkcreap

I think it is a question of subjective appreciation. No, definitely I would not say 40K a week is OK. 100K at least might be OK, depending on the week. Nevertheless, it was just a subjective appreciation of what I consider selling OK.

          • AceRuby

Yea right now PS4 is easily outselling the Xbox One right now.

  • Geoffrey Tasker

people worry about nintendo’s future and it get it, but i don’t worry because I look at software sales charts and the top ten usually look like that.

the WII U may be failing right now but nintendo will be fine

  • Assassinated23

I’m surprised A Link Between Worlds is that low in Japan. Super Mario 3D World has it beat by over 100,000 units, despite it being the best game on the most popular system.

  • InterTreble

How can people and “independent” sites say Nintendo is doomed? I can read ONLY Nintendo titles…Ah yes Final Fantasy X, all right, just one… Then it’s a Nintendo solo. Ok, Nintendo is doomed and be happy Nintendo haters. If it’s what you want to read and listen, ok… Now back to 3DS, because I still prefer enjoy games rather than what those people do all days… 😉

    • AceRuby

People always like to talk non sense about Nintendo in general unfortunately it comes with the territory for them but more so in the West then the East.

  • Jason

So when is the US getting Monster Hunter 4 and this game?

  • Mario

Mario: Lead a us to victory my little pink friend!

  • Jonathan George Anaya

When the Vita outsells the WiiU, that’s when you know it’s in some serious trouble

    • AceRuby

Not really Japan is a handheld centric country now hence why Vita and 3DS always top the charts every week their. The fact the Wii U is selling as well as the PS3 sells over their is actually a good sign that its selling well for a console in Japan.
