Today Nintendo president Satoru Iwata made an announcement on Nintendo’s site this morning, reporting on the matter of his health. The 54 year old president underwent surgery in order to remove a growth on his bile duct, which is why he was unable to attend E3 this year. In addition, his recovery will cause him to miss the annual share-holders meeting for Nintendo. “Recently, as the result of one of my routine physical examinations, an issue was detected. Following a more detailed examination, a growth was found in my bile duct. “In general, it is said that a bile duct growth can be difficult-to-treat, partly because of the difficulty of detecting it early. In my case, luckily, it was detected very early and I had no symptoms. “I was counseled that removal at an early stage would be the desirable medical option. Therefore I had surgery last week, and I came through it well, as predicted. “I have already resumed my business by email and by other means, but it is anticipated that a little more time is needed for me to return to my regular work schedule. “As the president of the company, I regret that I cannot attend the meeting. However, I understand that I have to prioritise my medical treatment and to recover as soon as possible so that I will again be able to do my best to help the company to grow. I hope that you understand.” Wii U Daily would like to wish Mr. Iwata a speedy recovery and we’re looking forward to seeing him resume his regular duties, including presenting new Nintendo Directs. local_offer Nintendo Satoru Iwata wii u stars Further Reading Nintendo loses patent appeal, ordered to pay Nintendo was brainstorming about Switch when TheSkeletonMan939 . I was wondering what was so awful that he missed E3 this year. The Clockwork Being Happy he is doing well and gets even better soon. Hopefully he gets well soon. Nintendo has been doing great in the media this last E3 and have gotten alot more attention then ever. Multiple news outlets that say Nintendo won E3, Splatoon getting so much attention on the internet(since day one it has gotten so many fan art. Even Masahiro Anbe, author of squid girl(anime) is already a fan) just comes to show that E3 was a real success for Nintendo. I also realized they have been much more vocal on the games then are making. Aonuma talking about Zelda alot recently, Nintendo saying they want to explore both the 2D and 3D Metroid and want to share info very soon, Star Fox, Miyamoto wanting to know what the fans want to play, etc Its time for Iwata to keep up the excitement E3 created in the gaming community and keeps working hard to bring Nintendo to its Nintendo like profit. Edit: Wasn’t the investors meeting June 20? I guess he passed that one. Daniel Carvalho Nintendo is finally doing what they should have done ever since the start: showing games that fully utilize the Gamepad, coming up with new IPs and talking about their future and current projects. I’m happy they stopped trying to cater so much to the casual market with their screwed up strategies, such as making games that don’t use the Gamepad in order to get 3DS owners’ attention or highlight only one game per half a year until its launch. I hope Iwata gets better soon, so he can continue to come up with more amazing strategies like they’ve showed this year’s E3. Now we need a Nintendo Direct focusing on the title they couldn’t show on the Treehouse Event, like Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei and Star Fox U, or perhaps one full event focusing on Xenoblade X! I want a Wii U s bad now – DE GESOOOOOO!!!! http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/773/526/27e.jpg The Clockwork Being I really can’t believe the number of fan art that has followed the games’ announcement. Hopefully the Squid girl fanbase in Japan pressures Nintendo for a Squid girl DLC Daniel Carvalho I would love to see that! Ikamusume and her robotic versions created by the US scientist guys! XD DragonSilths Nintendo has changed course to start listening to their core…or whats left of it cause they were going NOWHERE by ignoring their core fans and trying to gain the casuals who want nothing to do with consoles right now. So for now they have been forced to do what they should have been doing since the Wii U launch. Whether they stick with this mindset or slip back into being stupid well…we will see. The Clockwork Being Hopefully they go with the core. Star Fox, Metroid 2D and 3D info will shared, Devil’s Third, Bayonnetta 1+2 in a single package. They could event include Xenoblade Chronicle in the Xenoblade Chronicles X package. Not only that but they promise to have a strong presence at Hyper Japan in London. Honestly, as long as Nintendo brings in those core games and manage to sell at least gamecube numbers then I will be satisfied. I mean the gamecube really was my favorite console. Daniel Carvalho Hopefully they’ll start selling Wii games digitally and remove the Wii Mode crap, so you can access Wii games directly from the Wii U Menu. They really should sell Wii games digitally, though, specially games that are not printed anymore, like Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy! TehEngineer But if they remove the Wii mode, how would people watch DVD’s on their Wii U? (Through the Wii Homebrew) Daniel Carvalho I seriously hope you’re kidding here! Wii Homebrew Channel is a non-official program used to hack the console in order to allow pirated games and channels to run. It is by no means supported by Nintendo, and their updates actually remove those channels – if your console bricks because of some of those illegal channels, Nintendo doesn’t take responsibility in fixing your console, as you’ve made something they do not allow. Reading DVDs through the Homebrew Channel is just the same thing: a non-official feature not supported by Nintendo. Ever since the start the console didn’t have that feature, just like the Wii U can’t read Blu-ray discs, and there’s nothing wrong with it. People who found illegal ways to make their consoles do so are on the wrong side, as Nintendo clearly says their updates removes illegal programs as they are NOT supported by the company! TehEngineer I wasn’t being serious, but it is possible to have the Wii homebrew on the Wii U’s Wii mode. Daniel Carvalho Yes, I’m aware of that. And I’m sure Nintendo will eliminate that as soon as they find a way to do so. The Clockwork Being Hey they are printed. They’re just 90$ used at Gamestop! And I am not pay 90$ for a USED game. But yeah they should really start to do that. Daniel Carvalho They are not printed anymore. You can find used copies out there, as you said, but the companies that developed those games are not printing new copies. Zodiark I would respectfully disagree with your point that the console was aimed at casual gamers. If I remember correctly, iwata said at the launch or the Wii U that the Wii was a console for ‘us’, while the Wii U was aimed at the ‘you’, an individual. Nintendo wanted to position the Wii U as a console for traditional nintendo fans and new audiences, and I feel this was evident within the Wii U’s library which tried to port games from the 360 and PS3 over to the Wii U in an effort to change its image into gaming machine rather than one just for the casual’s. Combined with the casual gamers from the Wii, nintendo possibly wanted the Wii U to be a one size fits all console, with the wii remote’s and motion controls available for the casual gamers, and the gamepad and the classic controller pro being avalible for ‘hardcore gamers’. Although, as we all know this went horribly wrong. DragonSilths No the CONSOLE wasn’t aimed at Casuals. Nintendo SAID they were coming for the core, but in actuality put their focus on trying to get the casuals aka those who HAD NOT bought the Wii U over the CORE Nintendo fans and that was the wrong move. Shaise Get well soon. But I still think a new president is needed. darkcreap I think he should have avoided to end the letter with a “please understand” :D. On the other hand, good news that he is recovering. Sdudyoy I always say you have to put health above work, and you really shouldn’t feel bad for doing so. vexedpython yea and sad how hard it is to do that today. if you take time off at most jobs the company looks at you like you are a criminal no matter how bad the situation is. im sure it will be even worse in the future as people only get more greedy with time and that’s even more true with companies. but N seems to be holding together fine while he recovers so he should take all the time he needs. Sdudyoy Yeah, it really is sad though, they’re just to greedy. Mario Hope I don’t turn like that. Rinslowe 54 huh? Still plenty of time to maximise potential as the CEO of Nintendo in coming years… Hoping a speedy recovery. WiiUisgaming Thanks God, everything went just fine. Get well soon 😀 lonewolf88 “please understand” you got to admit you smiled at that ending quote XD Mario …SURGERY!? 0_0 Shane Michaels If he’s nearly as tough as he was in that fight with Reggie, he’ll be fine. leo damn surgery 0_o jhell comeback wend you are ready Pinky Peach Get well soon Iwata. I will pray for you. I hope I won’t see as much disrespect as the past article. asdfg That’s awful. I hope he gets well soon. ZeldaFan83 I hope he’s okay and I hope he gets better. Donaald Get well soon with that QoL you’re developing. C4 We understand. Full recovery is more important then some meetings. darkcreap Wow, I just read this: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=185841 That “bile duct growth” could be cancer. I don’t know about medicine, but I honestly hope that the surgery saved him from it. I hope that the surgery could remove it for good and that it may never reappear, if that possibility exists :(. Cancer has taken some people from my family and it is painful as hell to see them in that condition :(. nin-10-doughfan get well soon iwatasan! majora :D I find your lack of -sama disturbing ZeldaFanzzzz Tough Man!!!
