After last year’s hilariously unfunny VGA awards were mocked mercilessly online, game journalist Geoff Keighley took it upon himself to relaunch the award show as something with a little more dignity. The VGA awards have been taken out back behind the barn and BLAM! now we have what Keighley is calling The Game Awards 2014 show. According to him, this new show will focus more on game announcements and less on zombie-looking Keighley sitting next to a pile of Doritos and Mountain Dew.

Either way, now that Spike is out of the picture as a producer, Keighley has rounded up a uniquely interesting advisory board, which includes some of the biggest names in the business. Hideo Kojima, Phil Spencer, Yves Guillemot, Martin Tremblay, and yes, even Nintendo’s own Reggie Fils-Aime will be serving on the board.

So if the VGA awards are being redesigned and they’re actually taking input from some of the top names in gaming, what is the content of the show going to be like? We don’t know yet, but Nintendo may have provided our first clue. Recently discovered on Nintendo’s YouTube channel is an empty play list called “Nintendo @ The Game Awards“. Does Nintendo plan on revealing something big tonight?

Nintendo typically reserves creating playlists for its announcements, so it’s possible we could see something new. What do you think?
