See that face up there? That face is evil! What’s worse is that those overalls are totally out of style! Wait, you thought I meant Bowser was the evil one? Heh… Looks like we’ll be here a while.

Tin Foil Hat Time

Alright, I’ve put a decent amount of thought into this, and thanks to a tip from my buddy Colin, I think I have a decent theory. Hope you enjoy!

Let’s establish the backbone for this theory, and it’s something most of you have already thought of in the past. Bowser catches fairies in bottles, Link uses fairies in bottles to survive. I think we can all agree on this basic premise. This is where I kinda took the idea and ran with it.

Thanks to Colin, I was able to establish a link between the worlds of Mario and Zelda. In The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, you are able to kill goombas and chain chomps, two very iconic Mario villains. There are multiple references in Mario games to The Legend of Zelda, with even a cameo of the green clad hero himself (Super Mario RPG)!

Alright, the worlds are connected. We have that established. Now how do these two fairy bottled characters coincide? Well, take a look at the picture below.

3D world zelda comparison
This is where my thought process really took off. Why is Bowser the villain for doing this? If Link can do it, why can’t Bowser? The gut reaction is that Bowser is capturing them against their will, but if you’ve played Wind Waker, you know those fairies aren’t too pleased to be in a bottle. So that got me thinking about what Bowser’s true intention could be.

I’ve always been a fan of the flipped narrative, where the story follows the villain instead of the hero. What if Mario is, in fact, a villain? The base claim for my theory is this: Mario and Luigi aren’t necessarily evil, but moreso… dimwitted. All that pasta must’ve gotten to their heads, and they don’t realize how dangerous it is to have these magical little creatures running around. As anyone who’s seen Labyrinth knows, fairies bite!

Bowser however, is the smart one. He knows what will happen, and he has decided to take it upon himself to capture these fairies and save Mushroom Kingdom from the terror of being overrun by fairies. The only problem was where to put them. Well, the bottles in 3D World are pretty big. Or maybe the characters are just small?

I propose that Mushroom Kingdom is just that. A tiny kingdom about the size of some mushrooms. This explains toads, for example. Little mushroom children. So what Link sees as an ordinary sized bottle, Bowser and Mario see as a pretty good size cage. This whole “shrunken world” deal wouldn’t be a first for Nintendo either. Pikmin takes place on the planet Earth, but on a microscopic scale.

As far as Bowser meaning to save Hyrule, it would explain why he keeps stealing Peach. He obviously sees himself as a good ruler, and wants to show her that. However, his tactics obviously leave something to be desired. I think this recent Smash Brothers picture says it all:

Don’t worry Bowser! Your efforts won’t be in vain!

So, alright. How much off my rocker am I? Let me know how terrible (or amazing) you thought my theory was! I know we’re being a little goofy today, but I just wanted to break from the norm a bit! Hopefully something spoke to you, and at least gave you a smile. Have a great rest of the week!

Super Mario 3D World

Rosalina is my kitty!

Sure, it sounds creepy, but just look at her! She’s  so adorable in the little kitty feetie pajamas. Honestly, the design for all the cat suits in this game is just brilliant. Hats off to whoever came up with the idea, and hats off to whoever designed them. I love Rosalina’s design the most though, as she stands out the most.

Skylanders: SWAP Force

Skylanders miiverse zorpix I do what I want

Yeah, yeah, I have a Skylanders obsession. Get over it. If I’m spending this much money on a game, I might as well enjoy it! The game had just told me that Skylanders of the Undead element were stronger in the current area. To which I responded the above. By literally shouting it and scaring my room mate. I don’t need a big scary voice coming out of the clouds to tell me how to live my life!

Mr. Oink scribblenauts Unlimited

I spent some time in the Scribblenauts item creator and ended up with a rocker pig. His name is Mr. Oink. The editor is a bit tricky to use at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty nice to use. A few things could use some specification, but it’s an overall nice experience. I tried making a Sharknado… It didn’t work as planned. There were shark bits flying around all over it, and it shot out one shark upon spawning. Problem is, you can’t even get close to the thing without it biting you! Maybe I should stick to turning more animals into superstars…

Wrapping up

Well, now you have some insight into how my mind works! Thank you very much for reading this article, and I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any suggestions for next week’s topic, any questions about the content I wrote, or just wanna say hey, feel free to sound off below! If you really feel inclined, you can mosey on over to my TwitterFacebook, or Miiverse account. Please don’t feel offended if I don’t respond to friend requests on the Wii U, as I reserve that for people I actually know in real life. I’ll gladly follow back though!

Have a great week you guys! See you next time ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hey everyone! I hope you liked this article, even though it was a little different ๐Ÿ˜› Just trying out different things to see what turns out the best. As always, I love hearing your feedback ๐Ÿ™‚ Don’t hesitate to let me know what’s on your mind!

    • jjbredesen

As always great article, a little different, but it was both funny, and interesting.

      • well good! ๐Ÿ˜€

        • jjbredesen

If i was to give some constructive criticism you could give the article a better article ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Ducked

Good article! Planning on adding new stuff to the Zorpix Den? Also can’t wait for the virtual console article! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Why does everyone think I’m doing a VC article? XD I could, I just dont have very strong feelings about it.

        new stuff? Like what?

        • Ducked

Well for one, the name Zorpix means “Wii U Virtual Console Article” in Greek mythology.

I thought you were doing it, my bad. But it be a pretty good topic to write on. You could write about how you’d like to see N64 and GameCube come to Wii U and which ones. And which SNES, GBA, and DS games you’d like to see come to the VC. Although its just an idea.

For new stuff, you could add voting polls on your topic (those things are great), maybe start a weekly thing, when in each of the end in your article, you pick a online multiplayer game on the Wii U. Basically setting up a match for the Wii U community? Maybe? I don’t know really, I guess if you wanted to add more?

Anyways just some ideas maybe. Not trying to sound like a demanding jackass lol.

          • I do want to add more! If I had streaming software, I’d love to start a “Gaming with Zorpix” Segment or something, but I have no money for an elegato ๐Ÿ™ And I don’t think I have a big enough fanbase to ask for donations XD

I need to brush up on my Greek >.>

I could talk about that… And my opinions on it in general. I have an idea for next week, but that could be my topic for the week following ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Ducked

Okay nice to hear. Btw, you forgot to add that Mario kills innocent bunny rabbits :p

          • the poor bunnehs D:

    • Arthur Jarret

Isn’t mario’s entire world just imagined as the guy eats too many ‘shrooms? I think Bowser is really Mario’s imagination of his abusive father, while Peach is a mother-figure (hence the only reward being a kiss on the cheek).

It’s no wonder mario is overweight – as he has imagined a world where everyone except his mother-figure is hostile, except the Shrooms he eats.
So: food is his only friend.

He also has a split personality to cope, with one side his imagined self – thin and athletic although he reflects his own, very real, fear of the outside world. The other his real self, Big-nosed, overall-wearing, overweight… yet he is telling himself he is the brave hero destined to conquer the fear of his father.

I won’t even start with explaining Yoshi… someone with a long tongue that he can ride and hop off at any time. Yosh asks 50 bucks an hour, you know – depending on what you want.

And so Mario continues his little trip into oblivion – too far gone to be saved. He’s not evil, he just needs professional help.

      • Well, in his shroom obsessed self needs help anyways ๐Ÿ˜› But he’s still pretty evil for advocating drugs

        • Arthur Jarret

Okay! Next topic: Why Link is gay.
(A kid in green tights catching fairies all day… yeah.)

          • Eh, too controversial. I could make a gag article about why Zelda should be a girl (and have pictures of link all over)

          • Arthur Jarret

            Nah, not controversial enough.
How about a psycho-analysis of fox, who uses his daddy issues to justify his criminal acts against the rebel Andross, ensuring the tyranical grip of Corneria throughout the Lylat system is not broken.

You know he ate Pigma off-screen…

          • Fox ate Pigma? o.0

        • NintendoNoob

          After all it’s just a theory… A GAME THEORY
(Implying you should give this article to Matt and see if he’ll make an episode)

          • Matt who now?

          • alrighty then. I’ll consider it ๐Ÿ˜›

Great article and funny read man!

    • Jack5221

I saw a video on Youtube similar to this. But it was about Pokemon. Specifically Red / Blue version. Basically, you’re the bad guy, and Team Rocket is the good guy trying to stop Mewtwo. If you ever watched the very first movie, it shows Mewtwo destroying a lab and escaping Team Rocket. So what if the whole time in the game Team Rocket was just trying to get Mewtwo back, and you stopped them? Like heres some examples.

      – When they stole the Master ball. Seeing how the Master Ball can catch any Pokemon without fail – you stopped them.

      – When they stole all those fossils from Mt. Moon. Thinking that 350 million year old Pokemon could stop Mewtwo – you stopped them.

      – When they stole the silph scope, the item needed to see and catch ghost type Pokemon – Physics weakness – you stopped them.

I wish I knew the name of the video, it was really interesting. But its on Youtube. Look it up if you ever get the chance. I’d look it up myself but Im at work right now ๐Ÿ˜›

      • I’ll have to look for it at some point… that sounds awesome!

  • Wren Justin Umlauf

When I started playing 3D World and saw that the plot involved Bowser putting fairies in bottles, I immediately thought the same thing. “Oh so when Link does it, no big deal, but when Bowser does it, Oh man what a nasty evil guy, how could he do that?!” Then right away my room mate and I had this big discussion about how Bowser must really be the good guy and Peach is just pretending to be kidnapped. I mean just look at Bowser’s world, its a carnival for pete’s sake! That place is awesome! Who would want to live in a stupid castle when you can go to an Amusement park! Anyway, Zorpix, your definitely not crazy.

    • See?! This guy gets it! ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Ducked

I felt the same way with the carnival. That world looks freaking awesome!

  • Snake Eater

I loved the ending of your articles as always

    • awesome! I’m glad you like the Miiverse stuff ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Interesting perspective Zorpix, it makes me think. Indeed strange that when Link catches fairies it’s okay, but when bowser does it’s not. But what if? What if Ganondorf is the good guy and Link is the bad Guy for the same reason as your thoughts? He did turn into a wolf, he’s lazy as hell and he uses a sword to cut creatures in half. He imprisons sages, opens dark portals and he hits his horse pretty often…

    • And he ruins the landscaping for money! Maybe Ganondorf actually knows what’s best for his people ๐Ÿ˜›

      • Ducked

Oh darn, you beat me to the landscaping! lol

        • well the landscaping is a big part of it ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Ducked

      He also smashes innocent bushes!

      • And poor chickens.

        • Ducked

And he doesn’t even fry them!

  • Wreck-It Ralph: I’m bad, and that’s good. I will never be good, and that’s not bad. There’s no one I’d rather be than me.

      • Great Movie

        • Daniel Gonzalez

It really was. Much better than the usual crap that Hollywood throws at us. I was worried at first since this was a movie based on video games(and arcades). I’m glad it turned out great and hope they get a sequel underway soon.

          • I think it paid tribute to video games across the ages very well and had a good story to go with it. You could tell the writer was a fan of video games and it was cool to see all the little references in the movie much of which the younger crowd probably didn’t get. I took my 10 year old nephew to see it and I had to explain to him the reference of the Nintendo controller and the famous Konami code that was put into the movie.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Oh….that good ol’ Konami code. I certainly benefited from it when I fired up Contra or Life Force in my NES back in the day. It’s a shame your nephew couldn’t experience the 80’s and 90’s. Though, it’s great that these games can still be played for years to come despite that.

          • I am doing my best to let him play some of the classics and have fired up my classic systems ranging from the NES to the PS2 to play some games with him. He has become a big fan of the Legend of Zelda series and his first game was Twilight Princess but since then he has gone back and played Wind Waker, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and even the Original Zelda game. He prefers the newer ones. He also tried to point out that he beat Wind Waker HD before me but I reminded him I beat that game over 10 years ago when he was just a wee little baby when it was on the GameCube.

      • dude! spoilers ๐Ÿ˜›

        • jjbredesen

Ah shit… I edited in a spoiler warning, have you not seen the movie?

          • I have, but some people might not have ๐Ÿ˜›

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I enjoyed it. It was nice to see Bowser make a cameo, but a shame that Mario didn’t make the cut. He better be in the sequel.

          • Shota

            he will. said the producer

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I know. Though, it’s never a guarantee despite a confirmation. Lots of stuff happens during development. I do expect Mario to show up somewhere. A trip to the mushroom kingdom wouldn’t be so bad.

          • I wish he and Dr. Eggman would’ve talked ๐Ÿ™

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, there’s going to be a sequel, so there’s hope. ๐Ÿ™‚

          • There IS?! ๐Ÿ˜€ YAY!

          • There was also the Koopa Troopa in there and Mario was mentioned even though he did not make it in the movie.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

What scene was it? Never noticed a Koopa Troopa.

          • When the anniversary party was going on and Ralph came up and knocked on the door the Koopa Troopa came to the door.

About 2 minutes 27 seconds into it.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Oh….that part. Actually, the turtle Glenn is from Frogger.

          • Well damn.. I thought it was a Koopa Troopa.. my mistake…

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, we can kidnap and assimilate him into the Koopa Troopa collective. Problem solved.

          • The art style is very close.. I guess I have never see the turtles from frogger in HD before so I assumed it was a koopa.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeeeah…that’s true. I think they just named one of the turtles from Frogger, Glenn. Not sure if he is in any Frogger games by name. Speaking of Frogger…

            There’s the little guy!

          • I used to think Tapper was Mario without a hat

          • Daniel Gonzalez

He does sorta look like Mario.

          • watch it again if you haven’t seen it in a while. He looks a LOT like mario to me

          • CSN

did no one notice sonic the hedgehog at minute 1:37?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep. You see the little guy in a few scenes.

          • Sonic was in the movie a couple times. He was the one in the main game lobby area saying that if you die outside your game then you do not regenerate.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Not sure if you were already told this, but Mario is indeed confirmed to be in the sequel for Wreck-It Ralph. There’s plenty of videos on Youtube about it. Now, whether Mario play a big role or small role is still unknown.

      • You’re not alone, I got a little teary-eyed at that scene as well.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Well I never got tearly-eyed, but it was definitely a very touching scene. Certainly one of my favorite parts of the movie.

      • Dark-Link73

It made me teary-eyed as well. Very emotional scene.

    • See? Bowser’s trying to be good!

      • Or just accepting that he is bad

        • naaaah, he’s good ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • Arthur Jarret

            … at being bad.
I don’t mind the bad guys from Nintendo – I’m a sucker for Captain Syrup myself (mmmm… captain syrup)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            He’s a good kinda bad. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Dรกibhรญ wotshissurname

The title before you read the article sounds like it could also be a partiularly crappy episode of The Game Theorists.

    • was it crappy?:P

        • Awesome! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Awesome article Zorpix! I cannot deny, there is a logic to your theory. A method to the madness, if you will! XD

Thanks for the credit, I’m glad I was able to help!

  • Mr Ninty

i believe that bowser is in love with peach

  • Blue Hernandez

Haha thanks for the furry pics! ๐Ÿ˜›

  • Ducked

I have mixed thoughts on your theory.

Although you say Bowser would be the “good” guy. But why would he do some nasty things. Like if he wants to save mushroom kingdom from evil faries, why did he set it on fire in Super Mario Galaxy? It seems as if people have been trying to make Mario the villain for some of the nasty things he’s done.

Mario has Donkey Kong locked up in a cage in the game Donkey Kong. Mario also punches Yoshi every time he wants him to eat something. That’s just animal abuse! Even with goombas in Zelda, I don’t know if that automatically makes the worlds connected, but like you said it could be.

Personally I want to see a new bad guy in the Super Mario series. Someone besides bowser. Maybe make Wario and Walugi bad again and they team up to destroy mushroom kingdom?

Anyways, I overall like your article. You really are making people wait for that “BIG” virtual console article aren’t you? :p

-Keep up the good work Zorpix!

    • which big VC article now? ๐Ÿ˜›

I’d love to see a Wario/Waluigi bad guy game. That’d be awesome!

  • Dark-Link73

“As far as Bowser meaning to save Hyrule, it would explain why he keeps stealing Peach. He obviously sees himself as a good ruler, and wants to show her that.”

I think the writer had been watching too much Adventure Time, lol!

  • Nope.avi
Communist Mario Stalin was always the bad guy, comrade.

Also, according to the Super Mario Bros. 1 story:

One day the kingdom of the peaceful mushroom people was invaded by the Koopa, a tribe of turtles famous for their black magic. The quiet, peace-loving Mushroom People were turned into mere stones, bricks and even field horse-hair plants, and the Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruin.

That means while comrade Mario is taking over the kingdom, putting up red star communist flags and killing off the kings (or Tsars?), he is killing hundreds and thousands of mushroom kingdom people everytime he breaks bricks.

Mario is a fat, mushroom high, greedy capitalistic coin grabber, who jumps on animals, and burn those poor stars in a horrific holocaust just to fuel his spaceship while he shouts “-Yiihooo”. He is italian and speaks english, probably some sort of mafioso, his interest in quick money and drugs points in that direction. Also his psychopathic tendencies to torture animals, some cut of horses heads, other jump on turtles. He never stroke me as nothing less than evil.

Funny article Zorpix. More of this stuff. This page needs more humour ๐Ÿ™‚

This is unrelated but a couple days ago I walked into a GAME and they have a Wii U that people can play while the Xbox One was right at the back and the PS4 was to the side

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Interesting story. I walked into a Best Buy and saw several people playing PS4, each waiting for their turn, while Wii U and Xbox One, were barely touched.

      • NintendoFan

Yeah that’s what I have seen in other game stores.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Well it varies from location. Just what I’ve seen so far. Though, a Gamestop a few towns from my location, has many people playing Wii U. Both Wii U and PS4 have their fair share of space for games in the store. Sadly, the Xbox One barely has any. Though, from the poor hardware sales of late, not really surprised as to why that is. I really think E3 really hurt Microsoft more than they imagined.

      • jrob23

seriously, I walked into Nintendo headquarters and people were playing PS2 but ignoring the Wii U sitting lonely in the corner.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Well those people have good tastes. Nintendo employees sure know a good console when they see it. ๐Ÿ™‚

This theory on Bowser’s innate goodness isn’t new.
I have always thought Bowser was misunderstood. Ever since Mario abused Donkey Kong it was clear that Mario was a sociopath. Bowser just happens to be the only animal/creature that gave Mario backchat and succeeded in mild revenge.
Nintendo ought to make a Bowser game from this angle. I love playing as Bowser he is a gem of a character.

  • oh so that’s where they got the fairy in the bottle idea

  • Nicolas Dorion

    what is this doing here

  • 00EpicGamer00

Really good article Zorpix. As obvious by my avatar, I love anything that has to do with Bowser. In fact, I kind of have a theory of my own. Which, I think Peach secretly loves Bowser.
(WARNING: SPOILERS! Though, I’m pretty sure most of you played the games I mention in this post. But, just in case.)

At the end of Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story
Peach bakes Bowser a cake. This doesn’t necessarily confirm that Peach is in love with Bowser, but Peach MUST have some sort of feelings toward Bowser. She at least cares about him. Otherwise, why would she take the time to make something for him?

Also, In Super Mario Galaxy (the first one.)
In the beginning when Bowser rides his ship up to the castle, where he and Peach are looking at each other. Peach does absolutely NOTHING! In fact, she looks rather calm! If she was truly terrified of Bowser, I’d think she’d try to get out of the castle. At the very least she should shown some sort of emotion expressing “fear.”

Also, at the end of Super Mario Sunshine
When Bowser and his son “talk” about how Bowser lied about Peach being his sons mother. Could it be that Bowser’s been kidnapping Peach this whole time, not just because he “loves her” but maybe so that his son can have a motherly figure?
