Today Tecmo Koei released a new trailer for Hyrule Warriors, showing off the Fire Rod, which is one of the weapons Link can wield in the game. Though the trailer is in Japanese, you can see some pretty heated action and special moves from the weapon, including moves designed to take out a lot of foes at once, and focused fireball attacks for precision strikes.

It looks like a solid addition to the game, and we’ll likely see more where that comes from as the game is scheduled to release on August 14 in Japan. North America and Europe will have to wait until September to get their hands on the game, but we should have some more beautiful footage from the Japanese version to tide you over until then.

    bad ass

Never played a dynasty warriors game (which many are saying this looks simply like a re-skinned one), but the more I see, the more I want this game!

  • TaintedXGamer

solid? it look ridiculously OP! and I LOVE IT!

  • Nathan C.

Unlike a lot of people, I actually really like hack-and-slash games. The Wonderful 101 was the game that introduced me to the genre. I’ve never played a Dynasty Warriors game, but this one looks pretty interesting.

    • Darius

interesting? you have no idea. its awesome! try “Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper” and see how you like that.

  • The Clockwork Being

Aww I thought it was a real new weapon. This was shown during Treehouse Live @E3.

Honestly am I the only that is really looking forward to this game? People don’t seem to get that this isn’t a Zelda game in and of itself but a Dynasty Warriors game with Zelda elements and characters. Aonuma and the guy from Tecmo Koei said so themselves, its a celebration game for Zelda fans. Honestly I don’t mind that its hack and slash and will have tons of fun owning the battlefield. There will probably be different difficulty settings anyways.

    • Carlos Webster

well, we now know more about this weapon. (By the way, I’m not saying that I hate this game).

    • Decker Shado

I’m a fan of Dynasty Warriors, so… yes, I’m very much looking forward to this game!

      • The Clockwork Being

Yeah for any Dynasty Warriors fans and Zelda fans, this seems like a crossover from heaven. I have never played the Dynasty Warriors series but I did see gameplay. I have to say it looks like tons of fun.

    • bistricky

You are not alone …… I am really looking forward to this game. It looks like it will be fun.

      • The Clockwork Being

I’m sure it will surely be alot of fun!

    • greengecko007

“People don’t seem to get that this isn’t a Zelda game in and of itself but a Dynasty Warriors game with Zelda elements and characters.”

People get it. That’s precisely why there aren’t a lot of people excited about it.

      • The Clockwork Being

Think again. I have seen alot of people still clueless about this game in comments of trailers, articles and other media. Some people still ask if this game is canon. Other keep saying stuff like:

-This isn’t what Zelda is supposed to be

-Why is this the next Zelda. I can’t believe they would ruin Zelda like this.

Some people still don’t get it to be honest and are ignorant to what this game really is, a crossover. But I do agree that some people do get it but aren’t excited.

        • greengecko007

And are these the same people that don’t know the Wii U is a separate console from the Wii?

    • Rinslowe

I’m not full blown hanging out for Hyrule Warriors. But I will pick up a copy on account of it being an exclusive, that looks like it could surprise due to those Zelda Universe elements. And I’ve enjoyed the franchise before.
On a side note, I think it’s looking geared to do quite well in Japan. So it’s safe to assume you’re far from alone in looking forward to it…

      • greengecko007

I would be very surprised if the Japanese didn’t love this.

        • The Clockwork Being

Ditto. Do you know the sales of the Dynasty Warriors series in Japan? I know Zelda sells well but I really want to know if DW is best selling series over there.

          • greengecko007

Best selling, no, but it does decent numbers for a console game in Japan. Vgchartz (taken not as absolute numbers) lists Dynasty Warriors 8, the most recent game, as selling .34 million copies in Japan, which makes up 64% of the worldwide sales. Considering the overwhelming majority of sales come from a territory that is less than 10% of the total population of the combined major territories (NA, EU, Japan), I can say with confidence that the Japanese enjoy Dynasty Warriors. Getting western gamers on board though seems unlikely…

    • Darius

I’m REEEEALLY looking forward to this game. Zelda is the reason that i went to school to be a game designer and I still play dynasty warriors on the ps2!

      • The Clockwork Being

Ah you’re a game designer. May I ask what projects you have been working on? Or are you still enrolled in school?

        • Darius

No I graduated. So far since graduating I’ve been doing contract texture work and low poly modeling but a group of friends and I are thinking about starting our own project.

    • crocodileman94

I’ve never played a Musou game myself. But seeing how I put 40 hours into Tank! Tank! Tank!, I think I’ll enjoy this game.

    • Ghazbaran

Yea I’m pretty excited to get this game! Its a shame that a lot of people are going to be disappointed in this game because they’ll expect a different title, but if you have at least seen what a Dynasty Warriors game is, you should understand what you are in for. Regardless, I haven’t played DW much so it will still feel fresh and new.

  • Capt. Smoker

Really pumped for this game 😀 sugoi!

  • Officer Raichu

i have a feeling that this and bayonetta 2 will do pretty good in japan

  • LevenThumps

The Fire Rod looks awesome. I hope this item comes to the new Zelda U as well.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

The more I see of this game, the more I want to play it.

  • mikeybruises

The Fire Rod is not new. Of course this one looks a lot more spectacular.

  • CEObrainz

Misleading title here, but still can’t wait for this game to release….

  • HungryMetroid

off topic but target has a buy 2 get 1 free deal this week for wii u games. so if haven’t gotten Mario kart 8 yet this would be the time since you can get two free games.

  • Gameonfool

I was not interested when first revealed but now I am.

  • Jeffery02

Anyone else notice the mage character in the picture at the end of the video? Who is she? I don’t recognize her. I’m thinking that she’s either Nayru or an original character of this game.

    • Dallas Gooch

A new character named Lana was supposedly confirmed. She is either an original character or Lana being short for Lanayru. That’s my guess anyways.

  • greengecko007

Interesting trailer. The fire rod isn’t a new weapon, we’ve known about it since the alpha footage last year. The combat is looking a little bit better, but Link’s characteristic grunts and moans sounded horrendous.

  • Phil

I wonder if the ice rod will be in the game too.

  • Justin Thomas McGowan

Can’t wait!! Never played Dynasty Warriors but still really excited!!! I’m a huge Zelda fanatic.. I want to talk about the music being on guitar!?!?!? Who else is excited to play and heard some Zelda played metal style???

  • steveb944

    So much awesome!

xenoblade chronicles x is the most anticipated game of my life.
the first xenoblade is without a doubt, the best game i have EVER played and i have been gaming since the early nineties.
i remember my Sega master system with Altered beast, Alex kidd and of course the masterpiece which was Wonder boy 3: Dragons Trap. the latter blew me away and is a game i still play today. of course there have been many other epic games i have enjoyed along the way but xenoblade……over 300 hours in this fantasy world which drew me in so much, i felt i was being absorbed into the game itself. never have i played a game i got so addicted to and made me actually care about the characters so much.
if the new xenoblade is at least 50% as good as the first, i will be a happy man. but how do you top perfection?, how?

  • blarf

Nice. This game keeps getting better and better.

I’m still waiting for Groose to be announced. Too many TP Characters
