For those of you excited about Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, a new trailer was released today that gives a bit more insight into the historical time period typically known as the Golden Age of Piracy. The trailer mentions the year 1713, when Spain had a stronghold on the Caribbean and England was a mere shadow of its presence in the late 18th century. Other famous pirates are mentioned as well, including Benjamin Hornigold, Blackbeard, and “Calico Jack” Rackham. Hopefully each of these colorful characters will lend well to the story.

A few notable names from that period that are missing include Black Bart and Calico Jack’s two female pirate crew, Anne Bonny and Mary Read. Hopefully we’ll see them as well. As a person with a long time interest in this period of history, I’m excited to see it come to life in Ubisoft’s new game, especially considering the amazing job they did incorporating all the events of the Italian Renaissance into Assassin’s Creed 2 and its sequels. What about you?

Trailer shows Wii U, Xbox 360 and PS3 box arts, and on the side: “Also coming for Next Gen consoles and PC”

Well ubisoft, why don’t you think Wii U is next gen???

    • MujuraNoKamen

Maybe they do think Wii U is next gen (hence the great games Ubisoft have lined up) and they just use the term ‘next gen consoles” for PS4 and Xbox as they can’t give away the name of the Nextbox and they’re probably not allowed to show box art for the 2 consoles just yet. Well I hope that’s the case.

    • Héctor I. Rivera Negrón

This game have a release date on all available consoles including the Wii U. Ubisoft considers the Wii U a next game gen console but since it is already out in the market they have to put it with the other consoles. That way they make sure not to reveal launching dates of the other two next-gen consoles. That and little words like those make sure to irritate the most fanatic of fans so a spark of competition between companies makes you give them free publicity.

  • Wow, how is this not getting more attention? I can’t wait for this game. The ship sequences in ACIII were seriously impressive and this game looks like it won’t disappoint on that front. Need to get more history buffs in here to appreciate it. Most of the comments are quite frankly embarrassing.

  • Møhåmmęd Jårmøn

This game will hold me over until the release of Watch Dogs
