Not even Sega Sammy would make an absurd claim that Sonic Generations sold 3 to 5 million copies. Maybe if you take the most liberal numbers and round up to the nearest million you’ll get 3 Million. The actual value is closer to 2.8 million, and as bad as Sonic and the Secret Rings was it sold 2.6 Million being released only on the Wii. Before you call BS on the Analyst at Sega you might want to do the research yourself. Your supposed to be a reporter after all.

    • Arthur Jarret

Secret rings wasn’t bad at all.
Sonic and the Black knight was pretty bad, but Secret rings was pretty solid once you adjusted to the motion controls.

I’ll agree with you only because my brother, a true sonic fan, told me that Sonic and the Secret Rings was the closes to a true sonic game. I honestly stopped buying sonic games after Shadow the Hedgehog, but I did pick up Sonic 4 for the Wii , and I’m considering the next one. My comment about it was more to point out MarkNick and Ashely’s reliance on metacritic to show Secret Rings was bad compared to generations. The reality is that the Sales figures tell you where the audience for Sonic games really is, not Game Ratings, and according to Sega and all publicly available data that was the Wii and DS. If they think Secret Rings is so bad vs Generations then what the numbers say is that it was a waist of time for Generations to ignore the Wii. At this point Sega probably believes that only 200k Sonic fans of the 2.8 Million sales of Generations didn’t have a Wii, or DS. That’s because Sonic Colors sold 2.6M on the DS and Wii, and Rings Sold 2.6M just on the Wii.

The only problem I can see with Sega’s analysis is believing that it will continue to hold true for the 3DS and WiiU. After all past performance is not indicative of future performance a-la every investment firm ever. The 3DS is the safer half of that bet, and after this holiday season they’ll know if WiiU has picked up the remainder. If the 3DS and WiiU version of lost world sell about 300k each in just the US by January then Sega is right about the audience.

I think you’re mixing me up with Nick. I didn’t reference Secret Rings’ Metacritic score, Nick did. Just wanted to clarify that.

Sorry, you’re right. I’m horrible with name.

    Hey Ashley,

I don’t know a good way of contacting you guys without making an account on this site, so I just wanted to share this kickstarter project that has reached enough funding to be put onto Wii U. There are only 4 days left, you may be interested in making a short article about it.

She did write about it on September 17th when it reached the stretch goal to be made for the Wii U 🙂

      • Adrian

Darn guess I missed it. My friend messaged me yesterday about it and I got all excited. Thanks for the info though!

Ahh, I see, it’s up on the ad space of the page (anything in that section, as a rule, I don’t click on or even acknowledge usually). Thanks for being a dick about it though :).
