Gamebryo WIi UThe Wii U has gotten yet another midleware developer on board: Software maker Gamebase has announced a partnership with Nintendo to become one of the authorized middleware providers for the Wii U. Gamebase will offer the Gamebryo game engine and the LightSpeed software on the Wii U. These two technologies were used in the recent Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2.

The Gamebryo technology has been around for over 10 years, and has powered some high-profiled games in the past, including Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Fallout 3, and LEGO Universe.

Nintendo has struck many deals in the past to bring cutting edge technology to the Wii U. The console already supports the Unreal Engine 3, idTech 5, and physics technology from Havok.

Gamebryo on the Wii U isn’t a major surprise — a scaled down version of the engine was available on the original Wii console.

    OK then.

  • Johny

it supports unreal engine 3 ? nice

    • Know what would be nicer? If Epic Games decided to make another Unreal Tournament, instead of investing in the crap that is Gears of War.

      • alex

am not a fan of the xbox but gewrs of wars is the only good thing that make me have a shitbox in the house gears is not crap halo is it.

    • audie bowler

generic old on every platform engine nothing to see here real gamers move along

    • DragonSilths

It can actually handle Unreal Engine 4.

      • RoadyMike

Even so,we’ll never see that engine being fully utilized till the end of the Wii U’s lifetime, which is a real shame :/

  • Looking at their logo, it looks very similar to Gamecube. And my thoughs are running wild!

  • GeDDeN

Nah unreal eng 4 is what we have to hope for…

    • NkoSekirei

president iwata has alrdy confirmed that wii u can run unreal engine 4 and even unreal have said it too

      • DragonSilths

    • NkoSekirei is right about that, it has been confirmed WiiU can run unreal engine 3 to it’s fullest potential, and it can run Unreal Engine 4 as well (be it a somewhat a downscaled version). That was confirmed by Iwata and unreal itself even before WiiU was released.

      • audie bowler

no body said any such thing of unreal 4 her we go again taking jintendo hate statments as fact epuc said wiiu can run unreal 4 but we are not suppirting it NINTENDO HATRED BY USA WINDOWS PC COMPANY OH SHOCK DIDNT SEE THAT WE HATE WII WE HATE NINTENDO ENVY ATTACK LOL

        • Nintendude

          Well that escalated quickly.

        • AAAkabob

So.. Many Caps.. Eyes cannot bare..

        • In the actual interview with Unreal itself it was confirmed it can run a somewhat downscaled version of UE4. Whether it can or can not run it fully, and whether or not haters turned it to a downscaled version instead of the full version, does that really matter? What matters is what has been said by the designers of UE4: It CAN run it but it WON’T happen any time soon, that’s all I’m saying, I’m not attacking anyone, I just say as it has been said or made up, whatever. The fact is we WON’T see it on WiiU most likely, and yes it’s a shame, the lighting effects being possible with it are great, not even mentioning the rest.

  • Purple3DSXL

Nice!  I like that Gamebryo icon; reminds me of the GameCube.

  • NintendoNoob

I really want to see how the Frostbite 2 engine performs on the Wii U

    • alex

and you will not see it cuse withbold this shit of ea saying that wii u is not next gen i think we will see lees ea support on wii u but yes we will see a game runing on unreal and crytek engine 3

      • Uuh they said the console was a 4TH GEN 3D CONSOLE from Nintendo, they didn’t say it was last gen

  • NkoSekirei

u forget that president iwata and unreal have said wii u can run unreal engine 4 maybe u forgot that.

    • DragonSilths

Thank you someone actually remembered lol.

  • bizzy gie

    Unreal engine 3? Unreal.

  • uPadWatcher

I want to know what Retro’s game engine looks like…

    • DragonSilths

We dont know for a fact they are making one. Its still a rumor. But I’m with you. If they are I cant wait to see it.

  • audie bowler

not interested in DUMB MIDDLEWARE and nether should you !!!!

give me wiiu exclusive assembly level coded games pushing wiiu to the limits middleware just adds OS LIKE BLOUT to a system multi plat engines DONT PUSH WIIU

    • alex

nobody will push the wii u untill 3 years from now and it will be rear

  • audie bowler

    give mii wiiu coded games

  • Gabe Hoffman

Very good. This increases the likely hood of seeing Fallout on Wii U

  • Don’t forget Unity 3D. That was a pretty big announcement a few months ago. Every Wii U dev kit has Unity 3D in it.

Ultimately, I’m glad that Nintendo is courting these developers.

  • DragonSilths

Slight correction. Wii U can run Unreal Engine 4. It wasnt optimized on the Wii U but they got it working.

    • Wes Swain

      • the turth

the past two E3’s, guy… you must not be much of a gamer…

  • Seen a tech demo of this and I have to say.. it looks like an android or iphone graphics engine.

Still, nice to see new engines on the Wii U

  • TrueWiiMaster

What uses idTech5 on the Wii U?

  • LonDonE247

may be will will get a version of skyrim, that would be great, as long as its nothing like the ps3 version! LOL but since the wii u has 1gb of ram for games, skyrim should run fine on the wii u!!
