Editor’s Note: Video contains strong language.

You all know Francis, right? He’s the lovable, ranting character created by the YouTube user Boogie2988. His videos typically contain rants about events in the gaming world that are making him mad and his latest video is no exception.

Francis gives us his honest opinion of the VGX show that occurred this past Saturday. As you can probably guess, he was less than impressed. He also delves deeper into Nintendo’s announcement and his disappointments with their announcement of Cranky Kong. It would seem a character reveal for the upcoming game, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze wasn’t his ideal announcement.

Do you agree with Francis, or do you think he’s being a little harsh? I personally think he’s spot on, but give the video a watch and see if you agree!

  • Laud

Francis is meant to be harsh, that’s his character.

He is an intentionally ignorant character, so yeah. I don’t know why I mention this.

    • Yeah, at least it’s just the character, though πŸ™‚

  • Jonathan Grine

This counts as post worthy news?

    • We usually post Francis’s videos because they’re enjoyable to watch, and give some good opinions as well. πŸ™‚

      • Ducked

You’re writing articles for Wii U Daily now?

        • Yep! I am a contributor now. I wrote a review that should be appearing later today, and I also wrote an article that’s up in the 3DS section πŸ˜€

          • Ducked

Nice, Congratulations on your job! πŸ˜€

          • unpaid job, but job! πŸ˜›

          • Ducked

True, but still pretty sweet! lol

          • Thanks πŸ™‚

      • DarkLegacy

I see you wrote this article. Nice write up. Do you plan on writing some articles on Wii U Daily?

        • Thank you :3

Yes, I am a contributor now. I wrote a review that should be appearing later today, and I also wrote an article that’s up in the 3DS section πŸ˜€

          • DarkLegacy

Awesome! Good luck with writing your new articles πŸ˜€

          • Thanks! I have a review going live later today :3 Any guesses what it is?

          • DarkLegacy

Anything to do with the Wii U getting new games?

          • Nah, the game I’ve been reviewing has been out a while πŸ˜‰ since October to be exact

    • Elitepwnsface

The irony. Do you think what Nintendo presented at VGX was worthy news?

      • Justagamer

        The whole show was boring

  • Jack5221

Im subscribed to Boogie2988 on Youtube. He’s a good guy, posts a lot of interesting topics to talk about does his hilarious Francis bits every now and then. I didn’t find this one particularly that funny. He didn’t really rage all that much compared to some of his other videos. Still, I got a few laughs. Watch another one of his more recent videos called “Francis HATES Microtransactions” that one is pretty hilarious.

    • Does it mention Skylanders? XD

  • Tannealle Merryman

VGX was very disappointing but I can not help but still have faith for Nintendo.

    • Fboogey

      I am with you Tannealle

    • I’m torn. On one half, it shows that they don’t understand their market, but at the same time, they’ve been in this business longer than anyone, so I feel like they maybe knew what a bad show it would be, and didnt wanna waste a huge announcement?

      • SamusPrime

You are putting far too much importance on the VGX.

        • Am I though? it’s on a major network, reaching tens of thousands of people.

          • SamusPrime

Yes, you are. Judging from what I read on other sites, it was horrible, and many people are hoping they discontinue it.

          • You’re missing the point. Sure, the show was horrible, but everyone claiming that watched it. At least part of it. Nintendo had a huge audience, larger than any direct will get them. VGX may be terrible, but that’s no excuse to miss out on showing a mind blowing game/trailer to one of your biggest audiences

          • SamusPrime

In a show that was bad from start to finish the only thing the video game world is talking about is Nintendo’s portion of it. I often wonder if you “journalists” and I use that term very loosely, get together to congratulate each other when you get your negative Nintendo news to travel. I’m willing to bet you have your editorial ready should Nintendo fail.

          • I’m one of the biggest Nintendo fans out there, yet I’m willing to acknowledge when they make mistakes. And the main reason it’s all people are talking about is because it was a mistake. I understand that you think the whole show was bogus, and it is. I’m just saying I personally don’t agree with the decision to show Donkey Kong.

          • SamusPrime

The problem that I have is that Nintendo is held to a different standard then everyone else. People say that they are tired of Mario, Zelda, etc, then say that Nintendo should go 3rd party so they can buy those very same games. There is nothing wrong with acknowleding mistakes, but blowing the out of proportion because it is Nintendo is completley different. Just look at the majority of the headlines on a this “Fan” site to see what I mean. How about you guys take the time to post a review of a game, then what some of the stories you think are news. But I’m not as critical of Nintendo as many on this site, editors included, so my opionion doesn’t really count.

          • Your opinion counts. Everyone’s does, and I hear ya. I hold them to a higher standard as well. I think everyone does. That’s why tiny things like this are blown so sky high. If it was any other publisher, I dont think they would’ve caused this much buzz.

Also, I wrote a review that should be out later today πŸ˜‰ We were a little low on contributors, but we just got a fresh batch, so there will be plenty of reviews and articles coming soon πŸ™‚

          • greengecko007

Nintendo is held to higher standards because as everyone loves to point out, they have been in the business far longer. The amateur mistakes they have made over the past year don’t give me the impression of the same Nintendo that has dominated my gaming preferences.

On a side note, your opinion does count, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

          • Hipster Victor

Yeah its a real pain in the neck that they give us this hype for cranky kong :/. I hope it’ll be fun

          • Akatosh

Yeah, you’re right. They should have TOTALLY revealed their next big Zelda game at an event that hardly anyone pays attention to when it comes to, “new games.”

Screw E3 guys. Reveal the big stuff at VGX (which no one I know watched).

          • I didnt want Zelda there, and I knew it wouldn’t be there

          • NintenScience

VGX is NOT supposed to have a Legend of Zelda video game…

          • Akatosh

My previous comment was heavily influenced by intense shades of sarcasm. I agree with you.

          • ScrewAttack

I figure people are making a deal of it because they expect more of Nintendo. For all the backhanded comments and bitching at their expense, Nintendo’s much loved and held in high regard.

It was a big missed opportunity, and Zorpix is right in that they should have defused the bomb when it was lit. Unless…..the plan is to turn around with a Christmas ND and go “gotcha! LoZ U Mothafuckas!!!”. That’d be good.

          • NintenScience

It is mainly the fault of Reginald “Reggie” Fils-Aime

          • darkcreap

Exactly. Most of the problem here is Reggie screwed by being so mysterious a couple of weeks ago. Had he said something like “We are going to say something about DK”, no one would have been pissed off.

The way he said it lead to a lot of speculation, myself included: X? Bayonnetta? Zelda?

          • Akatosh

Yeah, let’s all blame Reggie for OUR assumptions.

          • darkcreap

He did not say it was Donkey Kong. He could have just said it and no one would have guessed. This is an entertainment industry. People have expectations. They want to be surprised. That is what Nintendo does (and that is what makes them special). If you are not going to say something really new, better prevent people from setting their expectations too high.

          • Akatosh

If they revealed a big shocker now, what would they reveal at E3?

          • shadus

Have to agree with Zorpix its was a wasted opportunity. If they had led big the headline would have been: the vgx stunk but did you see that Metroid u, Zelda u , X or Mario Kart 8 trailer. Heck even a Cranky Kong reveal could have worked wonders if they have played a trailer with him smack talking the two Kongoff players in the documentary and actually showed the humor of the character not the fact that he hops on his cane.

          • Yup yup yup. This guy gets it. Thank you. XD

          • Akatosh

            *cough It was streamed online.

It did not reach, “tens of thousands of people.”

You clearly do not understand your topic.

          • …Do you know what Spike is?

          • NintenScience

            A TV show?

          • A National TV channel

Back in the day, people watched TV πŸ˜›

          • Akatosh

I checked the tv channel the night of. Wasn’t listed. Only was online. Streamed.

      • Andrew W Garttmeyer

Well, at least now that they flopped it, the news has reached everywhere. I hadn’t even heard of the show, or anything until I seen all the negative press about it.

also, how is anyone listening to this fat dude and his lisp? Quite annoying imo, just talk normal please.

    • Gabe Brady

unfortunately i think Nintendo is officially starting to lose it… I was SUPER psyched when i saw the Regginator on screen but then… Reggie: I’d like to show you…
      Reggie: Donkey Kong!
Nintendo had a HUGE opportunity to announce something AMAZING and they chose DK -_- They let me down… πŸ™

      • darkcreap

I subscribe that comment: DK? Don’t get me wrong, I loved Donkey Kong Country 3 (and played the other 2 with friends). I also bought returns (but the wiimote didn’t do it for me, sorry), but I expected something different. I mean, if it was going to be DK, why did they not simply say it?

        • Gabe Brady

It just really pissed me off because Nintendo already announced DK at 2013 E3 and followed up on it in a following Nintendo Direct… MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE!!!

      • Gameonfool

        Goodbye Nintendo

        • NintenScience

          Goodbye @Gameonfool:disqus.

          • Gameonfool

Nintendo are done (RIP). they were done when they did the wii. Only the casuals kept them going now they are not interested in wii u Nintendo struggle. Not enough of ninty fans global to keep them alive. Soon I’ll see donkey kong to download cheap as it should be on Xbox, indie ninty .

          • Matt Elgie

When you are trying to prove a point, in the very least make your sentences sound proper. “Nintendo are done” I read that and moved on.

          • Gameonfool

Move on. You know the truth

          • Guest

          • Guest

Saying “Nintendo are done.” is correct. When you refer to a company, you can refer to it in the plural, because a company is a group of people.

          • Matt Elgie

Depends how you look at it. If you go by the law stand point corporations have the rights of a person, so it would be incorrect. Corporate personhood is the legal concept that a corporation may be recognized as an individual in the eyes of the law

          • Thomas Vienna

A concept which, one should include, is highly controversial.

          • Matt Elgie

Very much so indeed. I just thought I would put it out there!

          • Thomas Vienna

Actually, SkateRyan, that’s wrong. A group of people is singular because the noun refers to a single group, not multiple people. You don’t say “Everybody are overreacting,” you say “Everybody is overreacting.”

          • Guest

            You right i bad englush.

          • meekmeek93

You do realize that Nintendo has more than one system… the 3DS is dominating all over the world…

          • Gameonfool

We’re they belong, leave the consoles for the big boys.

          • meekmeek93

Okay, so… um… just wondering… so are you an Xbox One or PS4? Or do you like PC?
Plus I don’t mean to be a grammar nazi, but it’s where. We’re is actually we are. So you’re pretty much saying we are they belong…

          • Gameonfool

I know but this dumb tablet keeps changing or predicting my words. Maybe I type too fast, I have to keep deleting and rewriting words. It’s annoying.

        • Let’s not get too carried away

      • Gabe Hoffman

If it was Smash Bros Sakurai would have likely been there in person.

        • Gabe Brady

Most likely yes. Nintendo needs to bring us an amazing christmas announcement like say Zelda U or Smash Bros OR ZELDA U!!!!

      • Akatosh

Funny, but I can’t seem to remember Reggie ever saying this would be a “big” announcement.

        Can you refresh my memory?

I think people who thought anything about this event are losing it.

        • Gabe Brady

okay smart ass! Let me rephrase. Everyone assumed that since it was Nintendo’s 1st VGA/VGX appearance they were going to announce something big. They did not. and for that we were all disappointed

          • Akatosh

It’s nuts to think Nintendo or any other company was going to release any big news months before E3.

        • Thomas Vienna

I was mislead simply because he just got done talking about DK in the interview, than slyly mentioned an announcement about an upcoming game. It’s only natural to think that this mysterious game would be ANYTHING other than the one he just got done talking about.
EDIT: However, for the record, I did not expect it to be big. I just expected it to be not Donkey Kong.

          • Akatosh

The way to avoid this problem is to not expect much ever.

      • CMB

lol why would htye waste big announcements on a shit show like vga

    • Nintendoplaystation

Have faith, Nintendo make great games. 2D scrollers and HD remakes feel to me to be fillers. Real big games on new hardware take a while to make. I think
E3 2014 will hold some wow factor for wii u, just watch.

      • Gabe Brady

Oh their games are still amazing it’s just Nintendo isn’t doing very well right now and they had the perfect opportunity to get their shit together and they practically blow it with an announcement that has been talked about in 2 different Nintendo Directs!!!

        • Even Yarn Yoshi would’ve been better than DK, honestly πŸ˜›

        • Nintendoplaystation

Well we know that, I was replying to the lady as to why we should still have faith and E3 will be the one to watch, I never said their games are not amazing.

  • jeffp3456

I hate to say it but I agree with him (and i watched the whole show).

  • Eduardo

I Hate to admit it. . But he is right. Exempt the game pad part at least for me.

  • Justagamer

  • Thomas Vienna

I never take anything Francis says seriously, and not just because he’s just a character. For instance, while it was super disappointing that Nintendo mislead everyone and didn’t show what everyone was expecting to see, I thought it was cool to see Cranky Kong in action, and I’m excited about Tropical Freeze.

    • I’m really excited for the game too! but I think it was a missed opportunity… and I think that’s what most people are upset about

  • SamusPrime

I think his title should say “Francis hates VGX 2014 and Nintendo, but not Big Macs”. Why is this even newsworthy?

    • C’mon dude, really? How would you like it if someone took your personal flaw and made fun of it constantly? He’s a big dude and he knows it, no need to be mean.

      • SamusPrime

Oh calm down, it was a joke. I hope you scold Magnus as well.

        • Gabe Brady

you obviously dont realize how popular Francis’s character is accepted in the video gaming community. Youtube “Fat guy destroys Xbox 360” THAT IS HILARIOUS

          • SamusPrime

Never heard of him, but this is what people think of when they think of you standard video game player.

          • nexxus6

Everybody that posts on youtube thinks they are a celebrity. I hope he doesn’t quit his day job, if he has one that is.

        • Gabe Brady
        • Magnus Eriksson

Magnus is a quite big guy too. 140 kg and two metres. So yeah, Magnus really gives a shit if you or some other want to moralize about that.

        • verymetal

What is green and smells like pork? Kermit the frogs finger.

Now that is a joke, writing what you did is not funny.

          • SamusPrime

So are you saying I need to work on my delivery?

          • verymetal

No, your delivery is just fine because that made me laugh.

          • nexxus6

You smell Kermit’s fingers? What is wrong with you? It’s a muppet to entertain kids. You need help.

          • verymetal

You don’t get it? You must be the most boring person on the planet with no sense of humor. Try not taking everything so serious. Also, Miss Piggy is Kermits girlfriend. I laughed when I heard it the first time. I didn’t think the person telling me was actually smelling Kermit’s fingers and I didn’t think they needed help. I laughed out loud. The people that need help are the ones that are so uptight they can’t comprehend jokes. Sound familiar?

          • nexxus6

I understood the joke just fine. Apparently you have never heard sarcasm before. I won’t explain it to you here, but there are several places you can learn about it on the internet. So, it is ok for you to judge me as being “the most boring person on the planet with no sense of humor” and “uptight” but it is a travesty if someone pokes fun at someone’s weight? Must be fun to be so hypocritical.

          • verymetal

My fault. You were joking as well. I just didn’t get it. Sarcasm – That was so funny! No it wasn’t, but that was my attempt at sarcasm. How did I do? Also, I didn’t make fun of the dudes weight. I was sort of standing up for him.

          • nexxus6

Exactly my point. You criticize people for poking fun at someone’s weight, but you don’t hesitate to label me as “boing”, “uptight”, and having “no sense of humor”. Why is it ok for you to judge and make fun of someone? What if I suffer from social anxiety?

      • Magnus Eriksson

Lol, why call it a flaw then? Clearly he has some irony himself as his whole character is based on two things 1. a fat guy 2. with anger management problems.

And yeah, to answer the question to SamusPrime I dont care if people call me fat. I like to be a big happy guy.

        • SamusPrime

I saw they opportunity in the picture to make a joke. People make fun of me all the time. I’m glad you are happy. To many thinned skinned people

  • Magnus Eriksson

Lol, Wii Fit U is what he needs. And a doctor who can give him some medicine πŸ™‚

edit: Yeah, fucking hypocrites downvoting. You watch this because you think its funny that a fat guy is ranting and loosing temper. This person behind this character knows this perfectly well too,

    • alright dude, be cool

      • Magnus Eriksson

Come on. Im pretty sure he can take that. He plays on this himself. Its a joke.

    • He’s actually lost around 80lbs, he used to be a lot heavier. So he is getting the help he needs.

      • Magnus Eriksson

He is a character right? And plays on this himself. I think ive seen him in a batman suit and stuff like that.

        • Yeah the Francis persona is a character. The guy’s actual real name is Stephen, but he goes by the handle boogie2988.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            He is very funny.

          • I love his stuff πŸ˜€ It’s why I’m glad I got to write on it.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Hey, saw that now. Congrats! πŸ™‚

          • XD Thanks πŸ™‚

  • Krzysztof

I know he’s only a character, but I must agree with him. VGX announcement was disappointing to say at least. I didn’t expect any new IP or new Zelda, but I was absolutely convinced that they gonna show new X or Bayo trailer. I know that there’re many gamers who can’t wait for the new DK (including me) but this was just missed opportunity to show that Wii U is not only for families, kids and Nintendo fans. Also it’s funny when he said that 3DS is one of the finest pieces of hardware ever made. Well, the question is, why ? Is it because of the clamshell design? Power? 3D ? No, it’s simply because of great games for this system. Like Reggie said “software sells hardware”. So until we see some truly fantastic system sellers (plural) I wouldn’t expert some sales miricales from the Wii U.

  • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

    That litterally killed me XD

    • I was laughing so hard I had to pause the video at that point XD

      • Magnus Eriksson

        • I found it funny. Or do you mean why’d I pause it?

          • Magnus Eriksson

No, I wondered what was funny with that. I thought it was funny too. Because he is fat, and yelled so much he became pink – fat and pink, just like Kirby. Was this the reason you thought it was funny? πŸ™‚

          • Mainly just because he got so emotional about Kirby XD And the fact that he said he looked like him

          • Magnus Eriksson

And he kind of does because he is fat. Also this must have been his intention dont you think?

          • Sure. But I leave the weight jokes to him πŸ˜‰

          • Thomas Vienna

It’s his choice to poke fun at his own weight. Boogie2988 wouldn’t have joked about it on the internet if he wanted his audience to be silent about it.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Yup. Thats my argument too.

          • Stephen Macneil

He’s lost 60 pounds and still losing. I don’t think he wants people talking about it so much as of he laughs at himself first it takes power away from the assholes who try to make him feel shitty about himself.

          • nexxus6

Please stop the grandstanding. You act as if you never made a joke at someone else’s expense before.

          • Stephen Macneil

Lol okay… It’s my opinion based on what I know of him. And yes, I think people who make fun of other people based on their appearance are scumbags. Maybe to you that’s “grandstanding” but I call it empathy.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Do you think Francis is funny?

      • The Clockwork Being

        Wait you wrote this right?

        • I did indeed :3 But I watched the video before writing

          • jjbredesen

            Are you a editor now?

          • A contributor, yes.

          • jjbredesen

            Congrats πŸ˜€

          • Thanks! Be sure to read my review that’ll be posted later today πŸ˜‰ I spent a lot of time on it πŸ˜›

          • jjbredesen

I will πŸ™‚ btw be sure to check the tip mail a lot because i send in a lot of stuff that never gets posted.

Good luck with all the article stuff.

          • I dont actually receive the tip mail, but rest assured, our main editors do their best to consider every tip sent!

          • jjbredesen

This would make a good article:

          • Like I said, I’m not able to decide what is article worthy and what isn’t. I dont have that power yet πŸ˜› If you’ve sent a tip about this, I’m sure it’s being considered though.

          • jjbredesen

          • Sorry bout that. :/ Wish I could help more XD

          • jjbredesen

No problem i dont have a problem with it, just thought you could post articles how you liked, but could not view the tip mail inbox.

          • nah, there’s a little process articles have to go through before we can post them.

    • Dj

He made my day, not with the rant but just his reaction and how he said it.

  • darkcreap

I also hate to admit it, but yeah, I am quite frustrated towards Nintendo. If you see my comments, I am a quite pro-Nintendo guy, but I have to admit that Reggie’s announcement is quite dull to me. I expected better. I think they should have been careful with what they said. They caused expectations. Why didn’t they simply say they were going to say something about DK so we did not expected nothing else? It is not good to go all mysterious and then cause this frustration on fans.

Now seriously, Nintendo should do better. I am a loyal fan, but it is plain obvious they are not performing well and criticism is due in this situation. I want to know more about X, more about Zelda, hear about Miyamoto’s new IP, hear about more third party support for WiiU (including companies like Ubisoft), see that third parties will still support it.

It is not nice to say this, but if we just aren’t vocal about our concerns, Nintendo will think they are doing all right and everything is OK. To say it clearly: I am not satisfied with what Nintendo is doing lately. I know it is just an opinion and other people will disagree, but I have to say it.

    • Joshua Brodie

But according to the Regginator are voices are ignored. Petition have no effect and I do not believe for a sec they read Miiverse, Facebook, twitter or any other comments.

And I knew all they were going to show us was DK. My gut wouldn’t lie to me and it didn’t. But I was with you hoping for so much more even thought I was 99% sure it would be more shity DK announcements.

  • DΓ‘ibhΓ wotshissurname

he acually feel as angry as he looks like he isin the videos?

    • No, not really. It’s just a character he does for laughs πŸ™‚

  • Christopher Acuna

LMAO! Nintendo Troll’d our faces off. Well played Nintendo…well played lol.

  • Hipster Victor

I don’t like this guy, but i agree the announcement was just ._. …okay. I thought Reggie would show something else but…..ohh well I guess Donkey Kong will be fun anyways

    • I’m sure it’ll be really fun. This was just the wrong venue to talk about it in, I think :/

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

Yeah, well this was fun, first i thought he was like that, then i saw that he just played a character. Still love Super mario 3D world, that just came like a week and a half ago!

    • I can’t wait for my copy!

  • crocodileman94

I can’t say the rest of the show where any better.

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Good job Zorpix on writing this article and I agree Nintendo did a mistake. But VGX was a terrible show last night.

    • Thank you so much πŸ™‚

And yeah, what I watched was abysmal…

      • nexxus6

Why didn’t you write in your article that the show was abysmal to give a little perspective?

        • because it wasn’t the point of the article. The point of the article was to give his opinion. Not my own.

Don’t worry. I’m doing an editorial on the show later. Well, mainly Nintendo’s part in the show

          • nexxus6

So are you the contributor or is Francis?

  • Daniel Carvalho

VGX was really disappointing, but Nintendo themselves said they would give new information on a game that had been previously announced. It’s a smaller event focused more on titles under development and already in the market, so it was kinda written on their face that it wouldn’t be something big.

The problem is that every time Nintendo states they’re making an announcement, everyone starts imagining a new Zelda or Mario title, and start generating a ridiculously amount of hype without any basis, only to be disappointed after the announcement.

They never said it’d be something big, never said it’d be about a new Zelda, and yet we all were waiting for it. In the end, the fault for our disappointment towards Nintendo’s presentation on this year’s VGX is all ours, who selfishly decided it would be an amazing announcement!

That said, though, a single artwork for the new Zelda game would be enough to triple Wii U sales! They should give us at least a hint, an artwork, a countdown website, a Nintendo Direct, ANYTHING! As soon as a single information about the new Zelda title comes out to the public, Wii U sales will skyrocket!

    • I wasn’t expecting anything new. I was going around telling everyone this XD I was just hoping it was SOMETHING besides DK… It just kinda fell flat in my opinion

      • Daniel Carvalho

I was trying to convince myself not to expect anything, since I already knew something like this would happen, but in the end, I couldn’t. Even less after I saw the speculation on Zelda Informer (if I’m not mistaken) and their deduction on why it would be the announcement of a new Zelda title… Sometimes I hate myself…

        • Hype is a dangerous thing

          • NkoSekirei

of course thats why i dont watch the video game award show anyways it sucks and not a place to reveal anything big.Rather save the big announcements for nintendo directs and e3 most likely

          • Mario

            Hype = Death

  • Lil J Moore

I really can’t understand why everybody is upset over a little pointless show like this VGX thing.

  • Andres

Why would they bother to show something big on that show rather than doing a Nintendo direct? It makes no sense.
Btw cranky is a great addition to DK

    • Because of the bigger audience. mainly Nintendo fans watch nintendo directs. On a major network like that, they get way more people watching.

      • Lil J Moore

        SpikeTv is a major Network?

Edit: How big of a award show is VGX?

        • Big enough that it’s the only one

          • nexxus6

That is great logic. So if something is the only one, then it has to be big.

        • nexxus6

Was this on before or after quality programming such as “1000 Ways to Die” or “Repo Games”?

    • oontz

Because only Nintendo fans watch Nintendo Directs… and most nintendo fans already have a wiiu. Soooooooo having a chance to bend the ear of people who don’t own a wiiu or watch nintendo directs and then not doing anything… they kinda dropped the ball.

  • oregano

To be fair they already said it was new information on an already announced game. And everyone complains they don’t give enough advertising and exposure to their games. This game is releasing soon and thr game that preceded it did very well. Nintendos fate does not rest on what they did or did not show at VGX rewards.

  • Mr. Berzerk

You know what the mean kids become after high school? Marketers, or actors. Who gives us the video game news, or makes big anouncements? The ‘core demographic’ don’t make these showes, so the core demographic is insulted, and everyone throws their arms up wondering why the show didn’t apeal to gamers…..Jim Sterling makes a better show than VGX. Francis makes a point, but I couldn’t listen to him all day. Hard voice to get used to. Like having to listen to Slippy in Star Fox.

  • Falcoxcalibur

I’m done justifying Nintendo. I’m done advertising them in any chance I have. I’m done with their stupidity and lack of touch. They screwed it big time. They have been screwing it since… 20 years ago, but now they are facing the real consequences of their actions, of their lack of vision, of their lack of focus, their lack of competiveness.
They set themsevles appart from the other two BIG competitors so much that now they are suffering BADLY the way of irrelevancy, and they are not doing anything solid about it.
Nintendo needs to think deeply on their next move, because this could be their last.

    • Denvy

Wow, coming right off the heels of an incredible console last generation you complain like this? They’ve been screwing up for 20 years? Yeah, SNES sucked the big one, you’re right! Even if the Wii U were to sell less than the Cube and be considered a failure, Nintendo is sitting on a lot of money from the past and the success of the 3DS, they can afford to fail more than one more time. Your post is quite ignorant.

      • NkoSekirei

maybe cause he hype way too much over a stupid award show which no one likes and theres tons of great games coming next year along with big hitters

        • verymetal

Tons of great games and big hitters? Can you be more specific please? I am obviously in the dark here.

          • NkoSekirei

mario kart 8,possible smash bros release date for next year/no information at this times till it becomes available, bayonetta 2,maybe X,watch dogs and many more i cant think off at the moment but reggie did say there wont be short supply of games for next year for the wii u so my wallet is rdy/ note to self:wallet may not make it even though i have a job so money wise ill be fine

          • verymetal

I hope your right. It is hard to trust anything from them anymore.

          • oontz

the same small handful of titles, regurgitated again and again by nintendo fanboys like gospel.

I’m looking forward to those games but a little to far and few between.

        • oontz

          sheesh… broken record.

  • JeanPaul

Listened to the first 3 seconds and stopped… who is this guy? Should I bother watching the vid?

    • Joey

heh i did not watch not even 1 sec.. not touched the play button, i am planning on buying this game when it comes out, i watched enough videos on this game. i Hate spoilers or surprises.

  • Zanzama

Long story short: It was a missed opportunity at showing something new.
Objectively speaking they merely delayed what is going to be released on the Wii U one way or another. It’s a set-back but it’s not nearly as apocalytic as people make it out to be. We’ll get our Zelda one way or another. We merely have to wait longer for some new footage to arrive. Compared to Nintendo’s E3 2008 this is nothing.

  • Guest

Not even gonna watch the video based on the title but maybe he should put some effort into getting some exercise. See if he had a Nintendo Wii U he could get Wii Fit U for free for the price of a Wii Fit Meter

    • Diana of Themyscira

If you had bothered to check out boogie2988’s channel, you would know that he has his own nutritionist to help him lose weight every single day.

      • Guest

Sorry.. I have given up on watching these hateful videos or clicking on their links

        • Diana of Themyscira

Hateful? It’s a character, you know.. acting? I can’t recall Francis saying (out of character) that he actually HATES Nintendo.

  • meekmeek93

You guys and this Francis dude are taking VGX too seriously… It was clearly stated that Nintendo was showing an already announced game, and plus they needed to promote DKCTF before its release date. Also if you think about it, Smash Bros, Zelda, Bayonetta 2, and X are way too good to be shown at the VGX’s. Even though Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, and X could have been shown there, they’re bound to be released late 2014, so hyping them up a year before they release wouldn’t be so smart.

I will admit: I was initially disappointed when Reggie arrived at the VGX’s to discuss Donkey Kong. However, I understood the reasons behind showing off Donkey Kong Country. It was there, at the VGX’s, where Nintendo decided to unveil their fourth character, Cranky Kong. That was the reason why Nintendo decided to ask the Spike people if they could make an appearance at the VGX’s. But then someone decided to leak the final box art FIVE DAYS before the VGX’s. What was Reggie supposed to do? Ask Sakurai to send him a demo that was bound to screw up? Get Platinum to make a new demo of Bayonetta 2? I could go on, but I’ll save you the trouble. Y’all complain too easily.

    • verymetal

The problem is that the Wii U is in trouble of gaining momentum. Nintendo uses Nintendo Directs to advertise their games and that just doesn’t reach as many people as it should. The VGX could have been used as an opportunity to show others that are not interested in Wii U that some quality games are coming. Your a fan of Nintendo as is most people here; however, you listed some future games that are coming, but ask yourself this. Would you know about those games if you were not interested in Wii U? Also, maybe highlighting those games at a show like this one would garner more interest to those that are not familiar with them. That is the opportunity Nintendo missed out on. Donkey Kong doesn’t get the job done to be considered a core game for core gamers as Nintendo promised that is the group they are focusing on with the Wii U.

      • NkoSekirei

no its not dude if u havent been noticing that the wii u sales are slowly going up and next year theres a tons of wii u games coming along with the big hitters and majority of us alrdy knonw wats coming down the pipeline and but back to the matter is that video game awards on spike is not place to reveal big announcements only e3 or directs are for those things not the stupid award show period.

        • oontz

Completely disagree… the hype and buzz that COULD have been created by demoing say… the wiiu zelda. Would have been HUGE. Nintendo needs to create buzz more than anything right now. BIG BUZZ!!

  • Arthur Jarret

    Hm… “Created character”…
    “Honest opinion”…

As Spock would say – that is highly illogical.

    • Magnus Eriksson

I kind of thought the same.

  • DOLBYdigital

This site is going downhill…. How is this even being posted? Please refocus on informational news. Thank you

    • Leo

Exactly!!! Who is in charge of this mess???

    • nexxus6

Thank you! I agree 100%. How does this qualify as news worthy? I think it is because it takes jabs at Nintendo so it got the green light.

  • Akai

i was cringing my ass off all the way through what with that pish smoosh sketch. also those two guys that were bouncing about rambling and laughing to each other while different videos and pictures were shown in the background (not the presenters lol), they made me facepalm myself so hard that i broke my nose, im now suing for damages wish me luck!

  • Haha Francis ftw. He’s so funny. I also agree with him and Zorpix though.

  • Squid

I honestly couldn’t finish the video because I felt it was making me dumber by the second.

  • Josiah Parsons

At least we didn’t get Yarn Yoshi.

    • I would’ve preferred it XD

      • Mithiragi

Yup me too. We haven’t seen any sign of it since January I believe?

        • too long…

          • Mithiragi

Yeah, I hope Baby Mario is in it lol. First of all, congrats on getting to write an article. Second, how did you write an article? lol

          • Thanks XD

There was a call for contributors a little while back. I guess they liked my writing πŸ˜›

          • Mithiragi

Your writing is good. Nice choice of topic, I like boogie haha.

          • nexxus6

Really? Nice choice of topic? What was the topic?

          • I think he’s funny XD

            Thanks for the compliment!

          • nexxus6

“Lets do all the things that you wanna do”—–Ace Ventura

So because you think he is funny, we all have to be subjected to such a random, pointless video which is supposed to be news about the WiiU?

  • Funkee Dynamite

That was hilarious! I just wish it could somehow be confirmed that one of Reggie’s people show him this video.

  • SecretX

isn’t he a fictional character and all of this is a joke?

    • jjbredesen

Yeah he is, the guy who plays him is not like this in real life XD

  • andrewjcole

    Yay! Zorpix is contributer!

    • XD Indeed I am πŸ˜› Thanks for noticing

      • nexxus6

This video isn’t even news worthy. Why even post it?

        • As I said below, it’s more just for entertainment. Not everything on the site is news articles πŸ™‚

“We usually post Francis’s videos because they’re enjoyable to watch, and give some good opinions as well. :)”

          • nexxus6

If we aren’t posting news articles, wouldn’t it make more sense to post fun videos that actually support the WiiU or show some cool gameplay videos that might interest people? We are on a WiiU website, at least I think we are.

  • Preston Weaver

    • Mithiragi

  • Coffee

    Cheer up

VGX is not the place to be announcing amazing stuff, e3 2014 and nintendo directs

Oh and we will finally see a trailer for Zelda U at e3 2014 so lets look forward to that

we also have smash bros, mario kart 8, X, bayonetta 2 coming next year!

  • Akatosh

VGX is not the place nor audience for reveals on games. Everyone I know watches E3. I don’t know a soul who watches VGX, not to mention it was streamed, so it reached just about as many people as a Nintendo Direct could.

Anyone who overhyped themselves I have to feel sorry for. Jumping at shadows like that.

    • NkoSekirei

i agree people who hype too much will end up getting burned especially wen it comes to the crappy video game awards on spike which most of us alrdy knew nintendo wasnt gonna reveal anything big mostly saving the big stuff for future directs or e3 which everyone should hype for.

  • NintenScience

    Congratulations, @zorpix:disqus!

  • Aaron

It’s everybody’s fault for assuming something big when Reggie himself never said that it was “big news” he just hinted an appearance so it’s y’all’s fault for assuming. Y’all shouldn’t read too much into what people say.

    • yeah, people really shouldn’t have. I was claiming it would be underwhelming from the beginning XD I dont know why people were expecting a new game

      • nexxus6

Yet you post an article that rips Nintendo for the announcement. So are you trying to perpetuate the negativity with this article, even though you just said people shouldn’t have read into the “big news”? I don’t understand your motivation to post this video. Why not post a video that supports the attitude many of us have towards the announcement, which is one of “oh well”? No, you chose intentionally to post one that supports a negative viewpoint and then in your post buried in the comment section, you take the other stance saying you knew it would be “underwhelming” and question why people “were expecting a new game”. To make matters worse, in yet another post you said Nintendo “fell flat” in their announcement. You really have all your bases covered.

  • PS4/WiiU

    This reaction is just perfect.
    It represented my exact reaction

  • felony211662

Congrats on writing an article zorpix! I take it they approved you as a contributor πŸ™‚

    • nexxus6

The 2 paragraphs of content (and they barely qualify as paragraphs) doesn’t really make an article. This Francis video is so pointless that Zorpix really had to milk it to get 9 sentences. Pretty thin.

    • Thank you very much πŸ™‚ They indeed did!

  • Mithiragi

Yeah congratz Zorpix! How did you get chosen as contributor?

    • nexxus6

He found a random video that takes shots at Nintendo, that is all it takes to “contribute” for this site.

    • I just applied and somehow they liked my writing XD Thank you for the congratulations!

  • Gabe Hoffman

While it could have been something bigger. I think people could have handled this much more calmly and maturely

  • Guest

The VGX sucked! I barely got through 1 hour of it before I fell asleep.

  • iamserious

First of all, the VGX sucked! I barely got through 1 hour of it before I fell asleep.
Secondly, holy crap who is this Francis and what did I just watch!!! LOL!

    • XD Francis is a character of a fairly well known youtuber who does videos like this a lot. I enjoy them πŸ˜›

      • iamserious

Yeah I was laughing the whole time I was watching this YouTube video.

i agree with francis nintendo seems like theyve just up and out fiven up

  • old_skool

Lets not forget, Nintendo is first and foremost in the business of selling video games. Donkey Kong is thier next big release. If Zelda or Smash Bros were their next PRODUCT, they would have showed them. They used VXG to showcase what CONSUMERS can PURCHASE next. Nintendo have never pandered to their fan base, and never will. Reggie does nothing but disappoint these days.

  • lonewolf88

this may be some of his thoughts but this is hardly is true reviews if you wacth the real boogie and francis then you know what im talking about.

  • nexxus6

Who the hell cares what this guy thinks? His opinion is that of one person, just like my opinion or anyone else’s for that matter. I have to say that posting this story is absolutely ridiculous. It seems as if the “contributors” will post anything that is negative regarding Nintendo, and then call it news. There is absolutely nothing news worthy about this video. Here is a video that supports the WiiU, why isn’t this random piece an exclusive story on the website????? This is just as random as the video from Francis.

  • nexxus6

Francis,if you have a day job, please don’t quit it. Like I mentioned in a previous post, the fame of a youtube persona is short lived and a dime a dozen.

  • Rias why~?

Im totally with him on this matter

  • Chris Wells

    People take this guy serious??

    • nexxus6

Unfortunately, some people do. It’s the new age of getting news, opinion, and information from youtube hacks.

  • bugart19

Well at least I learned something new about Donkey Kong Country.

  • HypocritesRROD

WiiUDaily, now posting videos from youtube personalities to convince Nintendo fans to hate Nintendo. Way to go, WiiUDaily.

  • beerkin

    Wiiudaily is poo.

  • long_dong_donkey_kong

Nintendo can be mind-blowing sometimes. It’s great that they are finally advertising the system and its new flagship title. That’s a huge step in the right direction, but then Reggie takes to social media to hype a big announcement on an announced game at the awards, and all we get is a playable character. Huge would be “Here’s the new Zelda, it’ll be ready in June,” or “We’re working with Rockstar to publish the definitive version of GTA V on the Wii U,” or even “Rayman will be in Smash Bros.”

The Cranky Kong story was leaked long before the awards and even then it was met with a shrug. Nobody was on the bubble for a Donkey Kong purchase waiting to see if Cranky would be playable. Is there even an affinity for the Cranky character (outside of the story of him being the original DK)? If they’re only going to announce a new character for a game, just say that you’re going to announce a new character.

    • That was another thing. We already KNEW about cranky, yet they still tried to make it an announcement…

  • Toontown Jake
  • Skelterz

To be fair i think its an american sort of humor it didn’t really make me laugh but i think if he didn’t use the francis thing to say the things that are on his mind about certain subjects then i would have prefered it because to be fair the only reason he does that francis thing is cause then people thinks its harmless banter and no1 really debated but i completely agree with alot of what he’s saying i just wish he didn’t say it in the strange annoying voice.

  • David Tims

I think everyone’s reaction is so completely over the top and ridiculous that it puts in perspective just how off the ball gamers are. Cranky Kong looks cool. I’d say it was the highlight of the otherwise poor show. And that’s it. I don’t care beyond that. End of story. Off to play dream team now, bye.

  • EFFtendo

Cranky Kong is the highlight of the show? Wow you’re as delusional as Nintendo if you believe that. This will be the final Nintendo home console I purchased on day one.

  • Brandon Olson

I know Francis is a character, and Boogie as a guy is fucking amazing! But real talk? The VGX was garbage. Nintendo was right not to waste their time with something too important there. Announce it for a Direct or some place where following the media matters for all platforms.

  • John Madsen

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha rolmao
