    Question Wii U second gamepad???

Hey guys I was just wondering. I heard that Japan will get second gamepads at a steep price of $180. Is the second gamepad coming to any other places like the Americas or the U.K.? Please tell me if you know any more about this. Thanks!

not yet. since there aren't any games that use a second one, Nintendo decided not to sell an extra one.

Give it a year, Mario bros U 2 will probably be the first title to use 2. Otherwise there $299.. you gotta buy a wii u to get a second one.

Nintendo is whitholding stock of standalone gamepads due to supply restrictions as they try to get as many consoles out to retailers. The more gamepads they sell, the fewer consoles they can, such is the strain as i understand it.

The Japananese gamepad price may be artificially high to dissuade purchases while still allowing them. This means they won't be selling many, but the ones they do will net a tasty profit. As such, i would not use that price as a benchmark for a local release.

Reggie has stated that while the WiiU does support two gamepads, since no launch window game supports such a setup, and to reduce impact on available consoles, they're not going on sale until a later date. That's the official line.

I see what you guys are saying but there is so much potential with a second gamepad.
    1. A split screen game like CoD can now have 3 people playing with no screen peeking.

    2. Games like ZombiU can be displayed on one gamepad and the backpack displayed on the other.

    3. Marios boost mode has alot more potential with 2 gamepads

I could go on for a long time but I cant (It takes like 10 minutes to reply to a thread on the 3ds) but thanks. I see what you guys are saying

There comes a point where just adding more doesn't necessarily mean better. You're basically just trading the TV for a potentially quite expensive 6" version of one, and the more screens you push data out to, the more strain you're placing on the WiiU's GPU. While it IS quite a badass in terms of fillrate when compared to older hardware, there's definitely a limit to its power.

We'll see games which do really cool things with two gamepads eventually (competitive local RTS with overworld view?), but i really don't think adding more players to launch titles is either possible without detriment to visual quality or an economically sound way to spend 150 bucks or so.

Cubits has a point. I also recall seeing somewhere that adding another gamepad will cause the Frame rate to drop on certain games from 60 to 30. I don't know about you but i'm not too much in a hurry to get a second gamepad just to trade for a lower frame rate. All the games on the Wii U in 60 fps looks so smooth! I don't really want to find out how it would look with the frame rate halved. It probably won't be that way when developers fully understand the Wii U and tap into its full potential. Who knows, maybe the Wii U is even more of a beast than we originally thought!

There are so many awesome gameplay possibilities if you add a second gamepad, and I can't wait to see what people do with it, but for the time being it's far too expensive for Nintendo to produce, and there's no killer app to take advantage of it. But when it's finally ready, I really want to see Nintendo make another 4 Swords Adventures. Just call it 2 Swords. Also, from everything I've heard, even though if you convert the Japanese price to the American price, it would come up really expensive, everything from Japan is like that. The stuff there unfortunately just costs more. So I doubt it'll cost $150. My guess is it would be around $90-120. Still a lot, but we'll see if it's worth it.

I doubt the price will be as steep as it is in Japan- seeing how the Wii U itself is priced differently(due to the value of the Yen). And i do think it will come out next year, amd it is actually better this way. Many Wii U's atm are having problems. Adding a 2nd controller (dropping the frame rate of the console) would not be good at this stage. Let all the problems be fixed and THEN allow ppl to get another controller. I do hope that games that have splitscreen that uses the GamePad (like BO2), will have updates to allow 2nd GamePads

i can see it now 2 vs 4. gamepad vs wii motes. it is awesome! and the frenship thing is SO TRUE lol! it is so much fun. i think they could do a rotating thing if they only used one gamepad. like every set amount of time the gamepad gets switched around. i think that would be awesome!

I think ur talking about SSBU...cuz it was always the SSB series,as far as i remember, that was friendship shattering. It was just a few of the team party games that made me angry (when i was playing with noobs)

So, my younger brother pointed this out to me the other day. Two Gamepad + four pro controllers or Wiimotes. That's an entire Call of Duty team right there.

Just an interesting thing to note. Really can't wait to get my hands on an additional Gamepad.

I don't know how to feel about it. It surely would be cool but i think the price will hold back many potential customers. Maybe they'll bundle one with a good game that will support it.

The reason why they don't sell the Wii U gamepads (YET) is because there is no game or feature that can support 2 gamepads, if your gamepad breaks it can be repaired for a fee but the price im'm guessing they'd sell it for would be 100 it sounds reasonable they might also have it in assorted colors which might be more interesting, but enjoy your one gamepad for now and keep it safe

And a lot of developers should get an add on that increases innovation and creativity. Which are more needed than processing power.

Need both to really bring out the best of a game, though. It doesn't matter how amazing your ideas are if the technology can't handle it. Nintendo themselves have said time and time again that "we had X idea several years ago but the technology wasn't there at the time".

    Unhappy

Fine then... Instead of having more Gpu and Cpu power we can connect the 3ds to the Wii U and the 3ds can be the second gamepad and will lighten the load on the Wii U. Too bad Nintendo wont make a gamepad that has all its processing power in it so barley anything is affected by the second gamepad.

Won't happen. The cost of such a gamepad would be "considerable", there would be no way to sync the screens properly if you wanted to use it as a second screen in the same game, and the battery life would be dire even with a significantly larger capacity. The gamepad is the best device for doing what it does, no tablet to console connection can ever be that seamless.

The best you could do with such a unit is LAN-based cross-play, much like you can with the upcoming monster hunter game (wiiU/3DS), and you could ALREADY do with CC:EoT (Wii/DS).

You are asking for either impractical things, or things which already exist.

Yes poptarts... Hopefully it does. I just hope the game that will support it would be like a Super Smash Bros. U or NSMBU because since they are 1st party products. It might run at 60 fps on the system because it was configured for the Wii U

there should be 2 at least, but its fine with one for single player, i heard it takes from frame rate to have 2 so thats why they didnt do it, because at first they were going to. I think they should still sell them seperate to be able to exchange if one breaks or buy new one if breaks instead having to ship it.
