Wii Controller Does Not Work in the Virtual Wii mode

I tried to launch the Wii from my Wii U menu. Every time I do, it says I have to pair my controller. I pair the controller from the original Wii controllers and it accepts them, then it tells me to point at an option on the screen with the Wii controller and select an option.

The problem is that I do not get a "hand" on the screen representing what I am pointing at. These controller work on my old Wii just fine and they worked on this Wii U (in Wii mode) about 2 weeks ago. I have brand new batteries in both of them, but they are both giving me the exact same problem.

    Ideas?

Maybe they just got out of sync right now? Try re-syncing them with the Wii U again. (you know, with the red sync buttons and such)

Make sure your sensorbar is properly connected (unless you're playing on the the gamepad screen)

OK, it is on the screen that says "TV" or "TV and Gamepad" that I do not get the pointer.

Both Wii controllers behave exactly the same way, so I don't think it is the controller. I have re-synced several times and each time it is the same. I have shit down the Wii U and restarted it. Same thing.

If I press the + button on any of the two controllers, the system loads the virtual Wii on the gamepad only and I cannot do anything, as the gamepad cannot be used to navigate the virtual Wii.

    Any more ideas?

Do you have a Wii console that they were previously paired to next to the Wii U?

That was it. The sensor bar had fallen behind the tv. Thank you.

Logic dictates that if (+) navigates to gamepad only mode, then clicking (-) should load it on the TV. Try that.
