    Is E3 Hype Gone?

It seems like most of the conferences so far have been relatively lackluster. And I know that there are always slower years, but I wonder if this is actually a trend?

It seems like the publishers and console makers now know they can reveal new stuff throughout the year, have their own events, etc. So why bother putting all their eggs in 1 basket?

For sure, most of the events so far had 1 or 2 surprise announcements or meant-to-be surprises (if it weren't for leaks), but it seems obvious that everyone is holding back. . .

I suppose that's what happens when every game announced has realistic visuals and Michael Bay explosions.

I'd say the hype has gotten less and less. I mean, I forgot that E3 was this week until I saw someone post on facebook about the EA conference. And while I saw some cool stuff at all the conferences, nothing really wowed me.

For me, I feel like the developers are running out of really, really creative ideas, and it just isn't as interesting without those really interesting or desirable games.

And then you look at the crowds at E3. Up until this year, it was only journalists, and even this year it was mostly journalists. They sit in this room, watch these huge announcements, and sit there completely still and quiet. Psychologically, at least for me, that drums up less excitement than when you see the old videos from 90s E3 with people going absolutely apeshit over the announcements.

I do think Nintendo, and even Square, have done an excellent job of doing their own thing for the most part, at multiple times throughout the year. Giving more updates, putting on a good show. It's more fun, and I think that gets a little more excitement, even without as much fanfare and prestige as E3.
