I think they also like to factor in the price of Xbox Live/PS+, which is free on PC and they like to point out you can upgrade individual parts as the need arises rather then buying an entire new $400 unit.
Yeah but we have to factor in the titles that are given away with the online subscriptions too, if PC has amazing game sales then consoles have getting a supply of games to play for a yearly fee.

About upgrading a console, you could still rock the first editions of ps4 and Xbox one for many years even though you paid $400 at first. If you got a $400 PC then, chances are you may need an upgrade by now just to run at medium settings, this is maybe $200 to get a decent graphics card like a Rx 480

Another thing is that not everyone wants to build, that's an enthusiast thing and not someone who just wants to play some video games.id compare this to deciding one day you want a nice meal but don't want to cook so.you go out to eat instead of picking each individual ingredient and going on YouTube to learn the recipe.

I agree PC amazing but it's not cheaper than a console at all. Console prices have dropped like a rock and can play all the latest games with no need for upgrading and they run games at about the equivalent of medium PC settings, for under $300. Aftermarket codes are the way to go for the yearly.subscriptions too and you benefit from monthly titles, Xbox getting the most monthly titles due to them givong away BC games along with Xbox one titles.

Using steam controller for most single players and a wireless mouse for online multi.

Laptop used for business and is over 10 years old and been on everyday. Hp qaulity.
How does your Alpha perform for you?

Old Xbox one at GameStop I saw for $180 and it can play all the latest games. Grab a year's worth of Xbox live from g2a for $40 or an equivalent and enjoy a year of monthly games alongside solid online. We are now at $220. Pick a game that's on sale as there's always one going on at GameStop every week or the Xbox store.

PC gaming isn't anywhere near as affordable but steam does have great sales and online is "included" with the cost of the hardware and windows license I guess you could look at it that way.
You've never heard me say that. You can do PC gaming for around console prices, but to do it right, you're paying an upfront premium for a better quality experience. Doing PC right is really enthusiast and hobbyist. If you're trying to compare to consoles, then you should probably just get a console.

But after the initial upfront cost, it can be pretty cheap from then on. Online is free. Games that aren't brand new can be found at crazy cheap prices. If you don't want to wait on Steam sales, web sites like G2A and Kinguin are pretty much a year around Steam sale. But the point isn't that you're going to game for cheap. The point is that you can get cutting edge if you want to pay the price.

I was directing it at the general.statement of "you can get a console killer at a console price!' but then I see a $200 Xbox and scratch my head.

Those statements are made with introductory pricing in mind, not end of life price cuts. If you compare it to the new PS4 Pro prices, it's a little more possible. But even then, I personally think those kinds of comparisons and setups are dumb. If you're going to build a PC, you need to save up until you do it right. Either that, or just buy a cheap Alpha, and don't have higher expectations than you should. With an Alpha, you should be able to get some good 1080p gaming at medium settings, which would be visuals comparable, or slightly better, than the original PS4.

But in my opinion, PC gaming is enthusiast, and you should be willing to pay the price to pull it off really well. This is exactly why I want to see console makers push the limits as much as possible. The general population isn't going to spend the money on a gaming PC. Consoles will never measure up, but at least give the general population the best you possibly can at prices they can afford.

Nice! So you're dual booting Windows 10 and Korora Linux? I've never heard of that distribution. What is it based on?
