That's crazy. But it's a great idea to discontinue it.

His reasoning on discontinuation makes some sense really. There are likely various reasons limited shelf space, potential clashes with VC, too vulnerable to hackers but really keeping it going any longer would have just taken up resources that could have been used for Switch among other things. Reggie is also right that Nintendo doesn't have the luxury of infinite resources contrary to what some people think

This makes sense until you realize Nintendo just announced a *New* Nintendo 2DS XL. Very pointless iteration of the 3DS at this moment in time.

The New 2DS isn't entirely pointless though. Nintendo releasing cheap scaled down versions of their systems for budget consumers who can't afford the newer systems or don't want to upgrade is hardly anything new

The vanilla 2DS is exactly that, though. I think the reason behind the New 2DS is to give the 3DS line one last hurrah while using up leftover parts. It's the GBA Micro of the DS line.

I think of it more as standardizing the entire 3DS line under the "new" banner before announcing the discontinuation of support for the older models.

    Except
Except since when is $150 cheap? That's the price of a new nintendo 3ds! Which they never really sold in America to begin with!

    It's $150? I bought my New 3DSXL for around $189.
Just get a new XL for an extra $30. Unless this one is somehow more comfortable than the abomination that is the XL.
