Angry Nintendo just took down the Mario 64 unity demo

They used a DMCA takedown on the FREE 1 LEVEL ONLY Super Mario 64 fan demo.
That demo could've encouraged them to consider making a remake or something but NOOOOOoo.
In a way it was free advertising to the original Super Mario 64 anyway.
    Nintendo is doomed

    Rich? Is that you?

I fully agree it's a dick move on Nintendo's part.

But. It is their intellectual property. They can do what they want with it. As far as I can tell nobody asked for or recived permission to remake Nintendo's property.

And Nintendo told them to take it down, and are willing to not pursue further action, which they probably could.

Again, I think it was foolish of Nintendo to do this. They should turn a blind eye once in awhile.

But what did the demo creators think would happen?

I hope this is just a case of their legal department being overzealous. But even though the demo in question was free as I understand it, I doubt Nintendo wants to encourage unlicensed and illegal use of their property.

I'm done with the subject. I've said my peace.

However, free was the problem. Also, unlicensed. Also, ripping SMG assets.

Doesn't it make sense now why they did that? Pretty much the next day, they announced that Super Mario 64 is available on the Wii U VC for $10. Why would they want a free HD version out there? I know it was only one level, but I'm sure the concern was that it wasn't going to stay one level. If they didn't have plans to release the VC, then I would agree that it's stupid. But now I'm more understanding. And even before the Direct, I thought that was a sign that we'd be seeing Mario 64 soon. Unfortunately, it's not a remake, though.

"Let's let people download our game absolutely free!"

Mario 64 is coming to the VC. Of course they're going to take it down.
