    Switching to digital

I'm already getting sick of having to change cartridges like it's 2005 so I want to get longer/multiplayer focused switch games digitally. I'm starting with Splatoon 2 which is a small game I think. I haven't decided on if I want Odyssey physical or digital mainly because I don't know how long it is if you try to savor it which is what I'm doing.

I don't NEED a micro SD card yet because like I said, Splatoon 2 is small and my internal storage is nowhere near full but which brand and class of speed is best? Also switch is using an account based system right? No system bound bs?

I'm going digital too, it just sucks that I can get 20% off new physical games. Somehow digital is mote expensive

You do get a lot more my Nintendo coins if you get digital and you never know when that will seriously pay off in the future. Nintendo is a cheapskate when it comes to rewards but I bet at some point they'll start rewarding entire games.

For games like MK and Splatoon it just makes sense to go digital they're games you might wanna break out on a train/bus or whatever. Games like BotW or Odyssey can stay physical since you're going to beat them and not go back for a while.

Samsung or SanDisk are good brands and I'd go with a class 10

I only get games digitally when that's the only way they're offered.

I've always felt odd about getting digital console games, it feels...unnatural.

Physical game stores won't be around much longer. Digital and cloud gaming are just too convenient, especially cloud, it's literally the same level of convenience as watching a YouTube video and once everyone gets connection speeds to handle it well ( high speed internet is getting a lot cheaper at least where I live) then it's over.

It's gonna be the same position as Blu Ray and streaming video. Physical video exists but most people just stream because it takes 10 seconds to fire up a movie that way without going to a store.

Splatoon 2 is 3.3 gb to download. That's so tiny, how switch is both physical and digital are superior to the other consoles imo. Physical doesn't require any installation and the games are smaller to download so you are up and running much quicker

Is that how it works? I seem to recall that all of the stuff was in the initial install and they just unlocked it over time.

My PS4 is a full digital library, with the only game on disc belonging to my daughter. If you do choose to go digital you might as well go and get an SD card right of the bat, I mean why wait until it is a problem, and if some thing goes wrong with the switch you might be able to just plug the card into a replacement and carry on.

San Disk and Kingston are very good but you want to make sure you get an SDHC card, the same ones you would uses in a digital SLR cam, they read and write data faster.

I don't have $120 to just play some splatoon which is a 3gb game.

why would you need to spend $120? seems expensive, but if you are factorying in the game...

Just an opinion anyway. I am all digital so storage will get to be an issue sooner rather than later. but each to their own. Just remember the SDHC card once your ready to make the change.

Just look for a class 10. HC and XC are acronyms for high capacity (4-32 GB) and extended capacity (64GB-2TB). Get a micro SD XC class 10. The speed class, in this case Class 10, is rated for an absolute minimum of 10 megabytes/second but in the specs it will also list a theoretical maximum. Average will be somewhere in between. You can get faster class 1 and 3 cards but they're more expensive and I don't know if the switch is able to take advantage of those speeds

Been a long while since i brought an SD card. XC, fancey way to charge us more money for the same thing. what i was reading Wu was that they topped out at 256GB though, should be enough for the Switch since i imagine most games will come below 32GB.

They currently top out at 512 GB as far as I know, but 1 TB micro SD cards will be available soon. Up to 2TB is theoretically possible with the current technology but that doesn't exist yet

I think they will will have to go double sided at some point. like RAM to increase the size. I was reading on a Nintendo site about the HC/XC cards and size limits.

Yeah factoring in the game with a higher capacity sd card. I don't need to worry about that now since Splatoon is so small and I don't even know what my next switch game is gonna bs

I'm not even in any position to get a switch game after Splatoon 2 until a megaton release because I have only scratched the surface of disgaea 5 and I need to play persona 5 and Yakuza 0

I am thinking Yakuza 0 and I do not know why. I have played none in the series and 0 seems like a good starting point... If it is like shemu (or what ever) I will pass...

Yakuza is like a modern streets of rage that's actually a full meaty game and not a arcade game.

It's a silly but half realistic game dressed in realistic graphics but the combat is meant to be silly and brutal, not realistic. You learn different fighting styles and techniques as you progress.

That's just part of the game though. Most time is spent not doing combat.

Game is retaining it's value pretty well. Apparently it's some miracle that the game made it to the west in the first place.

Honestly I get whichever version is cheapest at the time. I'd prefer digital only for convenience but I'd rather save $10 to $15

For Switch, I will be physical forever. There just isn't enough memory there. Although, of course, for digital only games I will have no choice. Otherwise, I will go out of my way to buy physical. I am only physical on PS4 right now though, but that's mainly because the deals they offer are too good to pass up. As for having to change game cartridges, I have a Switch case that has little containers I can put my games in. Since my Switch is always in it's case when not in use, I haven't had much of a hassle in changing out the games.

I so wish I got Mario kart 8 deluxe digitally. It's a inconvenience to even play it . I was wanting to sort of collect switch games but there's no point if it ruins my enjoyment.

That's the first thing savinghyrule ever replied to one of my posts with! At least, that's as far back as I can remember.

I go all digital on the PS4. Even though the retail stores sell new releases normally at $20 off at launch for 3 days, I game share with my brother, so I only pay 50% of the cost so digital on PS4 is always cheaper.

Getting 20% off from Best Buy is the main driver (along with limited editions) for my continuing to buy physical. I've gone all-digital on the PC via Steam and GoG long ago and would love to do the same with the consoles outside of collectors editions. However, since I can save 20% on every game, all the time I see zero incentive to pay a higher price for a game that will, possibly, disappear if/when Sony decides to shut down PSN for the PS4.

However, no matter how long I own my games on cartridges/discs I can play the games as long as the hardware works.

I'm afraid by the time the next-gen ends (PS5/XboxTwo/Switch 4k) that physical copies will be all but dead and we won't have a choice.

I am wondering if there is any extra power requirement to run a cartridge over digital... Makes sense that there would be some power loss. But then drawing the game of an SD card properly means there is the same power draw. I ost likely will Stick the the physocal dis'c as My daughter will be the only one inquiring games on this console and she is 4 and I want her to feel all excited when I take her to buy herself a new game to play with her daddy.

This is why I don't hold on to this stuff. Progression will phase out less convenient options. Steam on PC has worked miracles and digital on consoles this gen has lots of deals almost rivaling steam.

Why buy a physical copy when you can go to your console's store and hit download without going anywhere? Plus not having to hassle with discs and cases every time you want to play a different games. Oh and when you pre order a game you can just play as soon as it hits midnight instead of waiting in a line or going anywhere when it's dark (which can be dangerous)

This is why digital is taking over physical on console. I'm just the messenger and most people are just wanting convenience now. Considering that games need to install and take up storage space even with physical, the benefits are very very very slim nowadays except on switch or if your internet isn't very good/have data caps or the physical version is much cheaper when a sale isn't going on.

There is also the PRE-LOAD option

and with games having day one patches it is nice to have the game fully installed and patched up ahead of time and before the update servers get smashed. there is the convenience of not traveling to a store to buy he game, which would take me 90 minutes in driving (round trip) not counting the time spent at the shops. Install the game when you get home. all the over head of buying a game is gone. If you can wait you can also like Glaicer mentioned, get the game at a great discount. Game share and you may save up to 80% (game sharing i think is onlyl available on the PS4). Too many reason to buy digital over a disc. Only downside is you can not sell console games you own or gift them. I think Steam gives you these options though.

Yep pre load is what I meant by playing a game at midnight.

I've seen people on here complain that their Amazon launch game was late or that they were camping by the door to listen for the delivery man. When you have a physical object it needs to be physically moved and things can go south.

Digital on PC is all you can get now really in Australia, the physical section in the game stores are all but gone. Just tiny. digital is just way more convenient
