Ordered a Switch from Amazon UK...

I was desperate and ordered a Switch from the UK. Looked it up and got a UK to US converter, just wanna know if I'll face any problems with the power anyways?

It looks like you'll probably have to buy an adapter or converter for it to work in the US.

Yeah come to think of it, that would probably work just fine with the dock, wouldn't it?

Would an Amazon basics USB C to A work? They're only 9 bucks while the Nintendo adapter is $50

I'm not going to guarantee it because I don't know about amperage and stuff, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I just checked, and the connector to power the dock is just a USB-C jack. So I don't know why you couldn't go C to A and use the A end in a USB A/C adapter.

The converter is your best bet if you don't wanna buy the NA power cord. But I'd be careful of just using any plane jane USB-C cords. The USB-C spec is all over the place and I don't even know if Nintendo is going by the official power specs.

Is that true? I thought one of the big points of USB-C was to standardize the specs.

Unfortunately they don't seem to influence the other manufacturers very much.

stop lying. the nintendo one is only $30.

the amazon one will definitely charge your switch, however it probably wont work with the dock and you won't be able to use a tv ever. the dock is very fickle with it's power source because there is a strange hardware check made to make sure you are using the nintendo stuff and not generics.

if you are going to buy an overseas model, i'd be willing to bet you are going to want it, and therefor take good care of it, so go ahead and get the nintendo one and erase all doubts about a non-brand frying something in your switch. it maybe be $20 more, but it's $300 more to buy a replacement if you mess your own up.

...or you could buy one of those adapters for plugs, but that just seems like a lot of work.

and you could probably go on reddit or something and see if anyone from the UK bought a US version and has a cable they would like to swap. even if they lie to you, you probably wont use the cable again...or sell it on ebay.

yes, it will charge, it just wont send video through the cable and turn your dock into a charging station with no AV.

So you think it needs more voltage to power the TV out? Interesting.

I could be wrong, but I think he said he already bought one. So if that works, I guess that's going to be his best option. Too bad he didn't hash out this discussion before he bought a converter.

The converter was only $8 it sounded like the best way to go.

It'll be fine. What do you think all us British do when we come across on holiday? We plug it in with an adaptor. Same with phones, hairdryers and the lot. Magically nothing blows up and it all works.

Also I paid a pound for 2 from pound land and they all done the job. That's like 60 cent each.
