Post The OfFiCiAl PoTuS tHrEaD/ShArKnAdO tHrEaD

Hello all! I'm going to tread very carefully here, but a mod has brought up that possibility. It probably won't happen, and maybe it shouldn't, but I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks.

For me, I'm a little tired of the topic, but the recent Project Veritas videos and the calls to get rid of the president based on mental instability are kind of drawing me back in.

I think it's an interesting topic and we behaved well, but I understand it's a touchy subject for some people.

I'd like to apologize in advance to the moderators; it's not my intent to stir up trouble, simply to promote discussion.

Hearing other perspectives is always enlightening.

Thank you everyone for your time, no matter your opinion.

I vote no. I don't mind talking politics, but I'd rather it not be here. I'd rather keep liking all of you.

Yeah I never even knew there was one but I'm with KennyJ it's divisive. Half the people will love what you say the other half will wish you to be lynched.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm on the fence myself, but if all we talk about is framerates or what we are currently eating then this place can get a bit boring.

    Again, I appreciate the input.

Why would we open a garbage bag and spew it around? Keep politics out of here.

If we can keep it contained to the one thread then I'd say it's fine. If you don't wanna participate in that then just don't click the thread. That said, make sure you keep it contained to that thread lol

I know what you mean maybe we can shake it up in other kind of ways. I don't know how , I'll think about it. For me politics itself is boring.

On other forums I've been on, they had groups you could join that would open up a certain section on the forums. Sort of like the mod-only sections. Maybe they could create a "politics" group or something like that and have it to where only the people in that group could see the thread and post in it? Just a thought. I personally wouldn't participate, though, but it could be good for those that want to while also making it completely optional.

At this point, I think it would be pretty tough for people to be nice. I don't really need that kind of stress.

In Europe, sure. In the US politics are pretty damn nuts.

We we're pretty well behaved last time. Granted we have a few more argumentive types now, but we have a pretty low tolerance for political stuff in standard threads now. If we kept that up it would be fine.

You do have a point, there.

I don't want this thread to turn into just a duplicate of Drew's POTUS thread, so everybody keep things in line after my next few sentences.

Drew and I were discussing re-opening the old thread as it seems to me that we won't have President Trump for a whole lot longer, and even the Republicans know this. The writing, as they say, is clearly on the wall, and what I wanted to find out from the numerous Republicans here on the forum was simply their thoughts on a President Pence. Is that all fine, or frustrating, or what? (Not the situation as much of an assessment of Pence, himself.) All the Republicans I know well are family members, and they're either so pro-party that discussion with them is kind of fruitless, or are utterly disgusted by how Trump has turned out. So...no real discussion to be had there. I was curious, is all...

Nah. As much as there isn't much traffic here I'd prefer to not have political threads.

    Thanks for being understanding.

I don't want to cause trouble, but I was curious how others felt.

If people aren't interested or the topic is too toxic then I would agree the thread should remain closed. Sometimes I get tired of it myself.

But it keeps developing in strange and interesting ways.

Last I heard, Hillary, Bernie, and Obama are under investigation. Obama is currently in Indonesia, which has no extradition agreement with the U.S. That's a bit odd, as Susan is being questioned currently.

I wonder what the hell is going on?

But it's not a palatable topic so I'll drop it. I just wanted to hear other opinions on these matters.

if there were a way to only open it up to certain members(like those that have expressed interest in it re-opening) I'd be interested.

as an independent i always like to discuss things - but i can see a member or two not being ready for open political discussion on here.

I'm skeptical that folks can remain civil on this board (well pretty much any board) regrading politics. I'm of course fine with it though. Bring it on.

I'll start it... Trump is doing just fine. No complaints here.

Well, damn. See...there ya go! That's interesting! I wanna know just what you mean by that!

But we seem to have far more "no" votes than "yes" at the moment, so we'd best leave things be...

Yeah, the civility is an inherent problem. I've seen all sorts of ugliness on other forums, even those that separate their political stuff.

No clue as to what that "bring it on" means, though. My motivation for the re-open was to gauge folks' general impressions on Pence (and I suppose, unavoidably--that overall situation), as I said. Trump leaving is pretty much a probability at this point, the Republicans in Congress even know this--and, for now, I'm not getting into it more than that.

Yeah, the Trump support within the core has eroded a bit, but not all that much. Plenty of folks out there still behind him. I'm surprised the erosion isn't greater, but hey, it is what it is. He hasn't accomplished much, policy wise, thus far, but what he has done certainly doesn't go against the base much. Even though I'd argue they're overlooking a number of key things.

Anyhoo, it seems most don't want the subject re-opened, so we'll go that route, for now at least. Anybody changes their mind, let us know!

I don't love that our president often acts like a kid in junior high/middle school, but in terms of actual implemented policies it hasn't been that bad, outside of the issues with the original travel ban.

In any case, since this has more "no" than "yes" votes, what about if we just wanted to discuss covfefe?

I would actually like to hear your thoughts on the matter. No joke, so smarm, or whatever, I'm generally interested in your opinion.

That said, the USA is done being the world's whipping boy. We are tired of getting blamed for everything. We need to fix our country and we are taking steps to do so. We have seen the havoc in Europe and we don't want it here.

Sometimes you have to throw appearances out the window and actually serve the citizens once in awhile. It's nice to actually see that for a change.

From what I see the U.K. is slowly figuring that out. If you want results you can't always be polite about it.

But to be fair I'm not especially familiar with how the Australian government works. I do know you have a prime minister a pretty strict censorship against violence.

So a dialogue where we can learn more is a good idea. Really I think the USA, Canada, and Australia have a lot in common.

if i can just make a blanket statement here: i think anyone who 100% agrees with every single action someone in any office takes should be really looked at closely. you can back a candidate and agree with policies/ideals they have, but when that person does something you don't agree with i think it's our jobs as citizens to take a step back and say "that's not right" or "i don't agree with how they handled that".
i see both sides right now arguing more than i've ever seen before, not that i'm old by any stretch of the imagination. there is fake news going on, and we need to think critically to siphon out what is false and what is fact.
that being said i looked critically at obama and didn't like some of the things he did but for the majority of it i thought he did an ok job. as for trump... i'm not happy with how he's handling the office. i'm not going to say impeach him, because i do hope he turns it around. half of the country though believes this man isn't our president, and doesn't agree with how he's handling the office. that half also needs to wake up. this is the reality we are in and if they don't like it they can make their voices made at the polls in a year for the lower level offices and a few years for the presidency.
what i would ask from everyone: treat others the way you'd wanna be treated. i see too much name calling going on (not here, just in general), and regardless of what side your on there's a pendulum and it always swings back and forth. you may have power now but that's not the case always. have conversations instead of name calling. ask why someone feels the way they do. and be human beings for **** sake.

Mostly it's just like when your mate starts dating an extreme douchebag. Your like "Really?? This guy is who you're dating?" But you leave them alone to make their own choices, don't get too nosy.
I think pretty much everyone around the world is kind of laughing about it, or impressed that it actually happened in a sick kind of way.
But between the States and Australia we've had a strong relationship for decades that will survive any current president. So we don't really care all that much.
I mean in a day-to-day kind of situation we don't really care all that much what the states are doing, just mind our own business. The only major problem we ever tend to have with America tends to be a reflection of our government's attitude towards our alliances with them. Every time we get dragged into fighting someone with them there might be a wave of anti-American sentiment. But it's usually coloured more with the idea that our government will suck up to the states and follow them along with whatever they want.

Then again there's relatively tiny numbers of Americans living in Australia so mostly our impressions of Americans comes from TV and movies.

As for the Chinese people I know and the national media, they love Trump.
It's a fantastic distraction from the local shenanigans that any National problems or policies might throw up.
Plus they're pretty happy that it's going on as now it's an opportunity to drive a wedge between Europe and NA and hold more influence in that region. Same for most of Asia.
China is making up ground in terms of political influence and reach on the back of Trump's negative image. Allowing them to get a foothold in countries that used to be very pro-American.

Thanks for your POV. I would say that probably most Americans who voted Trump want him to turn it down a notch or two, but his overall goals are something we generally agree with. Since we of course can't get 100% of what we want, a guy who wants to protect our jobs, our religion, our culture...however you interpret those.... and respects and honors our military and police..I think it's fair to say Trump is doing that.

American politics are extremely corrupt. We needed a change, quite frankly. The crony thing wasn't working. As I mentioned in an earlier post, many prominent Democrats are under investigation. Our president is not. And I'm not partisan; I would vote for anyone who has the same values as me, it's been awhile here in the states.

I think the USA is in good hands overall. Not perfect, of course, but we are getting back to sanity. If we have to look silly to fix things then so be it. We'll survive being mocked or laughed at.

    Always have.

I'm not really an expert in politics but it seemed to me that neither candidate was really all that appealing.
So people just picked their poison, I guess. Either a blowhard with an incredible ego, or a cog in the machine.
None of the Americans I know were jazzed about either one of them.
