    Last movie you watched?

I can't believe there's not already a thread like this! Other movie threads deal with more specific topics but no general thread for moviefilms whoa.

Today I watched , a French thriller that while incredibly made, I never want to watch again. 8.5/10

    What about you?

I just finished watching The Descent actually. It was on Syfy and is literally one of my favorite horror films
    of all time!

first negative thing i've heard about it. most guys that liked it say the appeal was the straightforward action and lack of an unnecessary love story. i'm not too interested in it but like any movie i'll see it at least once.

also estoy the fact that that movie's directed by the director of ESotSM instantly makes me want to watch it.

    ^^^^ Don't see that.

    Go see the original again.

The last movie I rewatched was Guardians of the Galaxy, a.k.a. the non retarded Star Wars. My wife actually enjoyed it. I was very surprised.

It's a fun movie. There aren't enough of those, but LEGO Movie and Wreck it Ralph spring to mind.

Before that it was probably Frozen and Thor 2.

guardians rules obviously. also i'm happy that i'm not the only one that doesn't like star wars.

haven't seen lego yet but wreck it ralph is pretty fun.

No, I haven't seen that yet but I'll look into it, and yes The Descent is really up there in terms of
    horror films for me.

I found it extremely effective all around.
The non-cliche all female cast. The colony of humanoid-like creatures that have thrived in the dark
underground for thousands of years and hunt like a bat < a more believable monster(s) overall than the
unstoppable cliched-slasher villain or something of the supernatural kind.

The plot? She left her best friend behind before making her final plunge to escape the cave due to
personal reasons that the exposition reveals at the start of the movie, then plays w/ a little bit more in
the middle of the movie when they are in the heat of the battle w/ those creatures, and then finally pays off
at the end of the movie. It's actually done quite well in my opinion.

The reason why the film works as a whole though is because just when you think it can't get any worse
once the girls get stranded & lost deep within the cave after part of it collapses and they are already dealing
w/ claustrophobia, we come to see, after an hour into the film, the first creature and the fact that they are
    being hunted by it.

And then it gets even worse, there isn't just one creature, but an entire colony down there.

Then it gets even worse, they hunt by sound, so now in order to survive they have to try to escape while
    being quite.

Then it gets even worse, they come to find that no one has ever come out of the cave alive.

So their situation just continues to get worse and worse and worse. That's how a horror film should operate
and that's exactly how The Descent operates. Not to mention the underlying theme of the film which is a
very rare attribute to apply & highlight in a horror film.

But just like The Blair Witch Project, avoid the sequel at all costs.

    Maze Runner.

Didn't read the book but really liked the movie. Much better than Divergent; it had better acting for sure and the story was more interesting.

Tom Cruise is pretty amazing, in the sense he has gone off the rails long ago and still turns in good stuff that people want to see.

I'm not a TC fan, not by a long shot, but I do respect his ability to not ...self destruct? As Wesley Snipes did, as Nick Cage seems to be doing, etc. Also, as much as I like Morgan Freeman or Samuel Jackson...it's okay to turn down something once in awhile, yeah?

You don't have to be in everything.

That said, I'll watch anything Willem DaFoe is in. Or Lance Henricksen. Or Christopher Walken or Benicio Del Toro. Or Danny Trejo.

Vanilla Sky is an amazing film. A really moving film and one of my favorites, and Tom Cruise's performance is top-notch in that.
I also like his work as Lestat in Interview with The Vampire.
Haven't seen anything recent w/ him in it though.

I just got done watching Dracula Untold, I liked it 8/10.

It also left room for a sequel, which is cool.

If you want to seriously appreciate Tom Cruise, watch Collateral. Minority Report is a close second.

Last movie I watched from start to finish was with the minions, and it was Big Hero 6. Good stuff.

What?! No mention of Rain Man?! That's my favorite movie of his. I loved watching the transformation of his character as he deals with his autistic brother, Raymond. That was his best performance IMO.
I play both first and third party games on Nintendo systems. But I also own a PS3 as well.

The last movie I watched was Birdman, and while it was a technically strong film with great acting and long shots without cuts, it was difficult to watch and just not much fun. I thought it was going to be a funny movie but the long shots and the insanity of the characters just makes it a grind.

I recommend watching Tommy Lee Jones' new movie, The Homesman. Also, check out A Walk Among the Tombstones if you liked movies like The Silence of the Lambs and 8MM.

Man I wish I enjoyed movies these days as much as I did between the ages of 10-25.
I just don't really go after movies anymore because mostly they are pretty pedestrian, or I've reached an age where I've seen everything original the entertainment industry has to offer.

That is a very solid job. I guess it came out so long ago I forgot about that one. The famous screenwriter William Goldman used to do a column (and maybe still does, I think he's still alive), and when Dustin Hoffman won the Academy Award for Rain Man it pissed him off so much he wrote about it. He said that there was definitely an Oscar worthy performance in the film, but it was Cruise's, not Hoffman's.

last one i seen was Birdman also, and i found it great. But perhaps the movie was pretty much what i was expecting, so thats why i liked so much. And the drums in the background are just great.
Gona take a look at The Homesman. also back you up and recommend A Walk Among the Tombstones. Nice movie!

I love the first half of minority report, didn't like the second part of the movie. Second part feels more like a dream than reality.

Watched Frozen yesterday and before that Maleficent ( OMG disney what the hell(love the movie ))

We rewatched Paycheck the other night. It's an awesome movie. It's the only Ben Affleck movie that I really love. I don't consider Good Will Hunting a Ben Affleck movie.

Before that, it was Guardians of the Galaxy, which is pretty great.

Minority Report was an awesome movie. I've been wanting to see it again for a long time, but it's pretty hard to find for some reason.

That's not too hard, seeing how every movie now is a reboot or remake.

Minority Report is awesome. Watched it again recently, in fact. It's a better movie than Collateral, for sure, but Cruise is super creepy in that one...

    Do you like it?

Although it's been around for a while, at least you picked a good one. That one's as good as the first Iron Man, imo.

    In theaters? Big Hero 6.

Great movie, but not as good as How To Train Your Dragon 2 and it's story kinda got boring after the first hour...

    7.5/10

Outside of theaters... saw Star Trek (2009 one) when Nimoy passed away

I don't like movies because I'm a believer that something scripted can never match the drama/intensity of non-scripted things (sports) so I haven't seen a movie in a long time. I did watch Moneyball because I read the book over a decade ago and it changed the way I viewed baseball.

6/10 The acting was either too flat or too dramatic. They also showed the president incorrectly.

Watching a crappy indie movie is about as bad as playing a crappy indie game.

I haven't watched a bunch of indies. I did really like The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I don't think I could handle watching it more than once, though.

This is coming from the guy who hates every sport but baseball and curling.

    Is curling a sport?

Technically, yeah, but c'mon. If you are a Canadian Olympic hockey player or an Canadian Olympic Curler... brusher? IDK what they call those guys... anyway, besides the ice, there is a world of difference between the two.

I wonder if there is a movie about curling?
