Rumor: Zelda Link's Awakening Remake coming to 3DS this year.

Industry insider Marcus Sellars and additional video game industry insiders have come out and claimed that a brand new Zelda game for the 3DS, which is a Link’s Awakening-like remake (we really don’t really know at this point), is coming out this year for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

“A new 3DS Zelda Game is coming. An enhanced remake of Links [sic] Awakening but more opening like BoTW.was suppose to come this year but we [sic] delayed for gameplay changes. We will see a reveal soon“

Regarding the 3DS inspired a Link's Awakening game coming out this year. The team behind it is Grezzo who have handled many Zelda games for 3DS. A prime example is the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D.

A new 3DS Zelda Game is coming. An enhanced remake of Links Awakening but more opening like BoTW.was suppose to come this year but we delayed for gameplay changes. We will see a reveal soon

Grezzo is handling the development and from what is being said, it is the best Zelda game in with 3D effects yet. ALBW had some great puzzles that incorporated 3D, so this is very exciting.

While speaking to Sellars about the game, he gave some clarification regarding the remake of the Game Boy classic.

“It’ll come out within the first 6 months of this year. The team behind it is very experienced at handling remasters and Zelda titles. They have worked on Majora’s Mask 3DS, A Link Between Worlds, and many others.“

It’s been said this will be better than ALBW, which is hard to fathom. If true, Nintendo is staying true to their word and the 3DS is not dead. They will continue to support both the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Switch, contrary to popular belief. This is fantastic news for everyone who owns a system in the 3DS family of consoles, such as the New Nintendo 2DS XL, which was just released this year.

As a Zelda fan, I’m skeptical of a rumor but thrilled at the same time. I have personally been waiting for a quality top-down Zelda game since ALBW, and that game is very special to me, as it was the very first game I ever reviewed four years ago. Link’s Awakening is on the same level of depth of Majora’s Mask in melancholy, and Majora’s Mask fans will love the remake if this is true.

As always, this is a rumor, so be skeptical, but multiple sources are confirming this is happening. Hopefully, it is true and we get the best Zelda on the 2D Zelda yet.

Update: Nate869621 of posted this on December 26th on r/3DS. It is more extensive than anything we have heard, and the other info we’ve gotten does corroborate this, including what Sellars has told us.

The game was suppose to come out this year, but due to the focus on BoTW and the DLC it was delayed to next year to change the gameplay to a more ‘open’ approach.
The game is being developed by Grezzo, the guys behind A Link Between Worlds and Tri-force Heroes.(They release a zelda game every 2nd year)
It will be inspired heavily by Link’s Awakening, Many will consider it a remake but it will also be inspired by BoTW and past games.
There will be a N2DS bundle.
Release is around Q2. Possibly early Q3.
The game will be revealed very soon.
Be skeptical, but at the same time, this is looking more and more like it’s a probability.

Frekin idiots. Have fun selling that to all 10 people still buying 3DS games.

I suppose this will be a good test to see if it's still worth making 3DS games. If Zelda can't even crack a million move on from that turd

Guys the 3DS install base is huge haha. I have recently really enjoyed Metroid Samus Returns, Fire Emblem Shadows of Valentia, and Mario & Luigi Partners in Time.

I don't think it's a bad thing Nintendo is throwing some cash to 3rd party devs to remake old games for 3DS

It's huge, but check the sales numbers of all those games. Samus Returns in particular bombed pretty badly.

Anyways, yay! More remakes! It’s almost like they are out of ideas of something...

You are playing the same old games because you bought a Switch.

As for movies, Robocop is cool.

I don't know about the 3DS part, but a Link's Awakening remake really wouldn't surprise me. When I went to Symphony of the Goddesses, the big finale at the end of the show was from Link's Awakening. They got everyone pumped for the finale, and that's what it was. I was like, why in the world would they end the show with that of all things? Of course they ended up coming back with a staged encore of BotW, but I thought it was weird they ended the main part with Link's Awakening. It was probably an advertisement for a remake.

Plus they kind of talked about Link's Awakening with the whole theme of Link's resurrection in BotW.

It’s and old chick ensemble singing group, like N*Sync.

Nobody plays anything, nobody writes anything, but they can sing well. It’s sort of like those dumbass American Idol shows.

    You’d probably like it.

    Switch or no buy!

Seriously though...that's how I feel. The Switch is the future. Any development resources put towards the 3DS at this point (or at the very least using higher-rez assets to port games to the Switch) is a waste of time and money. Probably not accurate considering how small the team is, 3DS development costs being dirt cheap, etc, etc. Just saying. I want the Switch to succeed and more games = more success. Let's keep the hype train rolling Nintendo!

Bubububut... Link's Awakening is AWESOME! It has great music in it, too!

Also, this must have been in development LONG before they knew the switch would be successful. So of course it makes sense that it's close to release, and would have been a major prop up to their old faithful handheld in case the switch was bombing.

I think it's perfect business sense. There's bound to be a certain amount of "game in the pipeline syndrome" for 3ds and I think this is just one of those.

It is contractually over. I went to literally the last show they did and the guy in charge explained the situation. Practically begged everyone to find ways to tell Nintendo how much they enjoyed it so that they can collaborate in the future on different things

Symophony of the Goddesses was a concert series that went from 2011-2017. RIP

It went for 6 years straight and they no longer have any dates or shows, definitely none in 2018. He said they might petition Nintendo to see if they can make a CD. Outside of that, anything past 2017 is a new concert series that has to be negotiated with Nintendo. So yeah. Dude didn't seem to have high hopes but we'll see if there's any Nintendo related orchestra shows in 2019 and beyond

Yeah I tried the same. But since the guy that was head of the project came out, got super emotional, explained it was their last show ever, etc, I tend to believe him. Especially since every other year they've done this, they've had dates for the next year's concerts out before the end of the year.

I'm not saying I don't believe you. It's just weird no one is mentioning it online.

Not to gloat, but I called the port situation a long time ago.

    Doubters, have that seat.

At this point a better question is what WiiU games WON’T be ported?

The answer is the Wonderful 101, which actually deserves a port. Everything else is a cash grab.
