New 3DS launches in Australia on 21 November, 2014.

Nintendo Australia has just announced that the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems will launch in Australia and New Zealand on 21st November, 2014. Australia and New Zealand will be the first countries outside of Japan to receive the systems, with North American and European launches not happening until 2015.

The New Nintendo 3DS will launch in White for AU$219.95 and the New Nintendo 3DS XL will launch in both Metallic Blue and Metallic Black for AU$249.95. For the first time in Australia, none of the New SKUs will include an AC charger -- one will be available for purchase separately for AU$14.95, though existing 3DS chargers will be compatible with the New models.

In addition, Nintendo Australia will be launching 20 different faceplates you can purchase to customise your New 3DS system.

Since Australia is still in the PAL region I might actually import. Although that depends on the postage costs.

Well, I was wrong. They actually kept the name for the western release.

Now to scrounge up $250 by Nov 21st, plus $60 for Smash 3DS and $80 for Smash Wii U.

Unless things have changed with this iteration, Australia is a part of the PAL region alongside Europe, New Zealand, South Africa and a handful of other countries.

You'll need to find an Australian or New Zealand retailer that ships consoles internationally. I just checked JB Hi-Fi and Mighty Ape, but it seems that both of those only ship consoles domestically.

Target has Smash 3DS for AU$44 in its most recent catalogue -- you should be able to price match at EB Games or JB Hi-Fi. I also wouldn't be surprised if Target offers Smash Wii U for either AU$59 or AU$64 at launch as that's happened with previous releases like Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8.

Interesting, I would import one but the holiday is just too expensive as it is.

Honestly, just call it the 3DSi. This name is going to come back to bite them in the ass later just like Wii U did and continues to do. Whoever is making these decisions really needs to be fired.

It's kinda surprising to me that Australia get's it before anywhere else other than Japan, but it's a good thing.

I wonder what the hold up is for other regions. I think it is very important that Nintendo releases these New models before the holiday season, or they will likely have a disappointing sales figure to report. I know I was in the market for one, but have elected to wait for the New model.

One I read was the retailers probably don't want to get the stocks this year so that they can clear/reduce out all of the remaining stocks they have. Which makes sense in my opinion.

What makes this worth getting any time in the near future, anyway?

A few people seem to have chalked it up to supply availability, considering Australia and New Zealand are very small markets in comparison to North America and Europe. After all, according to Nintendo Australia, there's only been 700,000 3DS units sold here since launch -- good for Australia, but tiny in comparison to Japan, North America and Europe.

In my opinion, nothing. It has an improved 3D effect due to face-tracking, and it includes a C-stick that can used to control the camera in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate as well as function with older titles like Resident Evil: Revelations that utilised the Circle Pad Pro.

Going forward, there'll be some titles that will be enhanced by the New 3DS models whilst still being playable on the old models. There's also going to be some software that will only be playable on the New 3DS models due to its new CPU. Xenoblade Chronicles, a New 3DS exclusive, has been confirmed for a Western release in 2015.

I'm personally waiting to see just how many title will be exclusive to the New models before jumping on one.
