Earlier this year in April, Tecmo Koei announced that the Fatal Frame series would be revived on the Wii U as an exclusive series. There was no time frame for the announcement, but it looks like Tecmo Koei is finally ready to showcase what they’ve been working on. The publisher will be hosting an event dedicated to Fatal Frame on the Japanese streaming site NicoNico on Thursday, at 1:30pm in Japan. For the rest of the world, that’s 5:30 am UK and 12:30 EST.

This presentation is slated to reveal the first footage from the Wii U game, as well as discussing news related to the franchise. There’s currently no release date set for the title inside Japan and no guarantee that it will see life outside of Japan, but fans of the series will still want to tune in to see what Japanese gamers will be getting as a treat. Remember, without fan petitions, Xenoblade Chronicles and Pandora’s Tower may not have happened!

Thanks Ducked!

I really hope they bring this to north america cause i actually love the fatal frame series

  • Ducked

I’m hoping this game does come to the west. Day one purchase for me.

  • Christopher Acuna

    Much Want! Most Need!

  • TheyCallHimBigAl

Sony and Microsoft playing to the western crowd has really let Nintendo strike some good exclusivity with some Japanese devs/publishers. This ongoing partnership with Tecmo Koei will turn out hugely for both sides and gamers as well.

    • abe

I’m not sure how strong the Tecmo Koei/Nintendo union is. We didn’t get Dead or Alive 5 or 5u on Wii u, we’re not getting dynasty 8: complete, Samurai Warriors 4 despite 3 being Wii exclusive its coming to ps3/ps4/vita so its not an spec issue.

TK think Hyrule Warriors will make Warrior fans in to Zelda fans and Nintendo fans into Warrior fans yet they’re releasing no new warrior games after Hyrule for Wii u

However I really psyched for an Nintendo assisted Fatel frame game and I have no problem Nintendo “buying” third party exclusives

      • TheyCallHimBigAl

Good points all. At the very least it’s a good start for an interesting 3rd party relationship. I suppose it seems very Nintendo to court less mainstream publishers like TK than go groveling to EA for support.

        • Jon Turner

Koei Tecmo IS a great asset, but I say OTHER Japan third party devs/publishers should get on the WiiU too, period. Maybe more stuff from Capcom, Sega, Namco, Atlus, and maybe even more than just VC stuff from Konami. KH3 should also be a great asset for WiiU; I’d like to see SE on there as well. The Western third parties are pretty much a lost cause.

          • TheyCallHimBigAl

If KT pays off I’m sure they other Japanese publishers will follow suit. I seriously doubt any main Squeenix games coming though based on their track record with Nintendo. What I would love to see is a partnership with Mistwalker; the more Hironobu Sakaguchi Nintendo can get the better. The Last Story was fantastic.

          • Jon Turner

SE still left the possibility open for KH3 on WiiU, so there’s still hope IMO. Plus it’s not like they said they WOULDN’T support WiiU. Hopefully they’ll consider it.

Having said that, yes, a Mistwalker partnership would be GREAT.

          • TheyCallHimBigAl

Didn’t Squeenix ask WiiU fans to send them messages about porting KH3 to gauge interest? I think I saw an article about that. But as long as we’re dreaming about the WiiU having the best JRPG library I’ll pray there’s some loophole to get the PS Final Fantasies on the VC.

          • Jon Turner

They did, so… there’s SOME hope.

  • Oh sweet jesus yes :3

  • David Trail

Another Wii U game to add to my wish list.

  • Merry_Blind

Sick! Never played Fatal Frame before, but I’ve heard good things about it.

    • It’s well worth a look into mate 🙂

    • Rickem

If you by any chance have a PS3, download 1 and/or 2 from PSN. They’re $4 a pop and are oustanding. I played 1 last week obsessively, losing sleep over it, and have been playing 2 this week on my free time. My new favorite survival horror series.

      • Merry_Blind

I do have a PS3, I’ll look into them. Thanks! Which console were they on? PS1? PS2?

        • Ducked

        • Rickem

PS2. the first one looks kind of ugly by today’s standards, but is still awesome and, imo, the scarier of the two. 2 still looks pretty good. Art direction is a fair bit better in that one.

          • Merry_Blind

            Alrighty then! Thanks!

    • Ducked

The game is also perfect for the Gamepad controls

  • bistricky

If Fatal Frame is distributed worldwide, then Wii U owners are in for a real treat. 🙂

    • I think this time, the game will be released Worldwide. 😉

    • Daniel Carvalho

It would be very stupid not releasing the game outside of Japan as well. The console needs as many games as possible, no matter the territory!

    • Rinslowe

Looking forward to seeing what they’re doing with this one. I’m sure if enough interest is communicated, it’ll receive localisation.

    • RyuNoHadouken

it will definitely be released, worldwide, this holiday season. you heard it here first

  • Mr Ninty

do you have to play the games in order to understand the story or can you just drop in part4/5? meaning they are all separate storys with separate characters

    • Yuuki

Part 5 is still unknown but Part 4 isn’t connected to the others.
The only games that are connected are 1 and 3,and 2 and 3,with 3 having characters and references from the first two…

  • Agent721

  • MetroidZero

    Cool 😉

  • Will.F. Martinez

Hopefully it comes out in the west, we didn’t get the wii exclusive that came out on the original wii

    • Ducked

Strangely it came to Europe, but never made its way to North America.

      • Rickem

The remake for 2 on Wii came to EU. FF4 never left Japan.

    • SkullScience

We did in Europe (UK). Extremely impressive survival horror on Wii.

Never played FF before but if it’s as good as people says,I’ll be glad to check it out if it comes to the West

  • Nintendoro

hope it hits West this time. Otherwise it’d be pointless for devs to invest in this game.

  • anthony optimo

Dang it, so many games coming soon but the adult in me is reminding me of my responsibility, (argh!).

  • mojack411

Well, if Criminal Girls can get a localization, I don’t even want to predict localizations anymore. That said, FF4 for Wii never made it outside Japan so a fan translation had to be made for us Westerners. Hopefully the trend of localizations will continue with this new FF.

  • Nintendoro

proper treatment Ninty fans needed. May PS and MS fans go jealous

  • Nic Solarfield

Nothing else like this so we gotta hope this comes west

  • Capt. Smoker

I really dislike horror games these days, they don’t seem to scare me, feels more about action than anything else, but this franchise is special, it’s always scared the crap outta me ^^.

    • Epicstuf

But, Dead Space, though. That was the only horror game series that got my attetion last gen and current gen.

      • sillybajillies

until dead space 3 went full action.

      • Capt. Smoker

I could never get into it unfortunately, I liked the idea of it, but it didn’t scare me, thinking back, F.E.A.R was probably the scariest game I ever played ^^

  • Nintengoth

they better bring it to the world coz i wants it lol

  • Yuuki

If this comes then it will be set in stone that the Wii U is the best next/current gen system for me!

  • GmailIsDown

i’m looking forward to purchase the special edition fatal frame wii u bundle. please make one.
