Jul 23rd, 2013

With several new releases coming over the next few months, Nintendo is currently offering a special promotion for those of you interested in acquiring a few extra dollars to spend. From now until July 28th, Nintendo will give you a bonus for adding funds to your Nintendo eShop account using your credit card or a Nintendo pre-paid card.

  • Add $50-$99.99 to receive a promotional code for $5
  • Add $100 or more to receive a promotional code for $10

Those choosing to go the $100 route for the bonus $10 currently have Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, and Rayman Legends to look forward to over the next few months, not to mention a wide selection of 3DS games. This is certainly a pretty great offer if you’re going to be spending the money anyway and those who have the Digital Deluxe promotion will benefit even more.

  • Clel

I just don’t have that digital space :/

    • Madmagican

Time to invest in an external harddrive

      • Clel

Well then, I have a question for you, if you’d be so kind to answer it:
If my Wii U breaks, do I also lose the games on the external hard-drive?

        • Madmagican

Hmm… I really don’t know how that works but I’d assume anything saved to a harddrive, USB, or SD would remain intact
‘course I wouldn’t be too worried about the Wii U breaking; Nintendo builds their stuff to last

          • Joe Fraley

No, you will not be able to access those games in any way without your original wiiu, although the data will remain on your external hard drive. That’s a stupid thing about their current account model, it’s extremely outdated.

HOWEVER, unless your wiiu is literally toast, like obliterated, Nintendo will likely be able to make a system transfer to a new wiiu, and then you’ll still have access to all your digital purchases

It’s kind of a scary sounding prospect, but honestly I don’t think it’s very risky at all, and you reap the benefit of convenience, eshop deals, reduced production waste, and market efficiency, by paying the people you most care about the most money (namely, developers, rather than shipping companies and shady game shops)

          • Joe Fraley

Which of course, is why Nintendo is pushing the eshop right now.

          • Fred

I love your last statement, I’d rather my $60 all go to the people that developed and published the game and none of it go to Best Buy if the price is the same.
Here the digital is cheaper so Win for me and Win for the game developers!!!

          • Grulnork

I would love that to, but the problem is that the eshop prices are ridiculous. Much higher then retail, sometimes twice as much….

          • Fred

You must be in Europe. Here in the US that’s not the case. My next 2 games will be Wonderful 101 and Rayman Legends.
Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart have both at $60 eShop they’re $60 and with the eShop I get this $10 credit plus I’ll get the Deluxe Digital Promotion 10% back for both so it’s like they are $49 on the eShop for us

        • Fred

I’ve heard from people with this and similar problems. If your Wii U breaks you tell Nintendo and if they can fix it and save you money they will, if they can’t then they’ll allow you to redownload the same games on your new Wii U and if your save files on on the hard drive you’re double lucky because you won’t even have to start over on your games!

If someone breaks into your home and steals your Wii U and all your games, when you buy a new Wii U you’re out of luck with the physical games, but Nintendo will let you redownload the digital games on your new Wii U!!!

If you land a lemon Hard Drive (not likely but possible) and you have to take it back you can just redownload all the games that were on it.

  • vamos_cactuar

Awesome. Between this and the $30 3ds promo, Nintendo is getting a lot of my $$

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Does it apply from today or the time earthbound existed I spend about forty bucks for wii u eshop during this month that is without fire emblem and smt promotion.

    • Fred

      it applies starting yesterday

      • Yousif Alromaithi

Oh that is unfortunate I can only add sixty bucks for pikmin 3.

        • Fred

That stinks. Are you not going to get Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends, Wind Waker, Donkey Kong, and Mario 3D World?
If you can pre-pay for just one of them you’ll have it.
The good news is putting in $60 (or even $55) will get you a $5 card that you can use towards Pikmin.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Oh sure yes I will but I pre ordered a physical copy sorry. I know it stinks but the sales are posted on physical not digital so I am picking those as physical copy. Probably Sonic and wonderful 101 are digital since I did not pre order them yet. I hope Nintendo does an eshop pre order on Wii U or 3DS but I tried searching for it still no use. Anyways yes it stinks.

  • Ducked

How come there’s no 3DS news being posted in the 3DS section?

    • Clel

      Look again!

EDIT: Wait a sec… there was news and then it disappeared… weird.

      • Ducked

Yeah, I thought we would actually be getting news on it. What’s with this? There’s more 3DS news right now than Wii U to write about.

  • Razo_E

Will I still get my DDP points? $100 gives you back $10, if the DDP still applies, then you get another $10 back, so that’s $20 off. Not bad.

    • Points can only be earned from purchases with DDP. In essence though, you can get another $10 off. You just have to spend that $100 you added first to get another 2 codes of eShop credit for $5 each.

      • Razo_E

Sounds good! But damnit, Nintendo. You’re taking all my money! I’m also planning on getting the Mario/Luigi Dream game (name escapes me at the moment). I’ll be broke soon.

        • I know what you mean. The flood of games is never ending!

  • Lusunup

Give 100 bucks earn 10 bucks it’s worth the deal to get free money but its a tad bet to much for me >_<

  • Jon

I already get that with the deluxe promotion for the Wii U essentially….. lol Does this mean I would get $20 if I do this technically? But then I believe I have to spend the money before I get it but still.

    • Fred

Yes it works with the Deluxe promotion so you’ll get $10 in August and another $10 through the promotion when you spend that money.

  • val berger

Does this also count for Europe?
because I’m buying Pikmin 3 on the eStore to gain -30% on the W101, then I’ll be getting my usual premiumdiscount and additionally I would get this promotional code?
This would be …maybe a bit unnecessarily complicated, but…hell yeah, of course I’d like it ;D

    • Drac

nah, I checked the site and it looks like it only applies to us and canada. shame 🙁

      • val berger

thanks for checking, I wasn’t really expecting this anyways. would just have been too nice ;D

        • Yousif Alromaithi

You guys got a better promotion so I am skipping this. Maybe only pikmin 3 will give me five back and five more on august.

  • Fred

I don’t think it applies to the 3DS and I don’t think you can use the $10 on the 3DS JUST THE WII U!

  • Ice Climbers

Looks like I will be adding $55 to my eShop balance and will be using the extra $5 to get Pikmin 3.

  • kevinxDxD

Will this offer also work if I buy the copy physicaly? I prefer buying games in a store.

    • Kevin Sepulveda

      Obviously not. It says Eshop.

      • kevinxDxD

Aww well thanks for telling me.

    • Fred

No this is only for people that buy digital games

  • Adrian

Darn, if I was into digital content…this deal would be somewhat tempting. But I’m not.

    • Johny

me too… i was gonna do that, since im getting Windwaker and shit.. .but then i remmembered… hey i want a retail copy…

  • Nathan DeFalco

I’m not into buying retail games digitally, but this works really well for my future virtual console purchases and for Dungeons & Dragons, Giana Sisters, Duck Tales, and Shovel Knight.

  • Andreas Sunde

Whatever, Club Nintendo still isn’t available here in Northern Europe.

  • A SNES Day Off

When Amazon are selling Pikmin 3 for £30.49, it’s hard to just paying an extra 9.50 for the convenience of a download.

    • ICHI

I don’t know, I live in the middle of nowhere and Amazon never get games to me on the day. This time I have gone with them but if it doesn’t show on time I think I will be going digital a lot more. Incidentally it costs me £9.50 to get to a videogame store. In fact I might cancel my preorder to buy it on the eshop and get money off wonderful101 and both will add up to more than a £5 eshop credit????? Hmmmmm what to do.

  • Srpg2ishere

    100$ for 10$ Better than nothing I guess…

  • Steven Scott

I will be getting all my 3ds games digitally because I don’t want to lose them
Now I just need to get need to get a 3ds

  • Johny

Does this works only for north america, or europe too ?

  • Linskarmo

Would this be for either eShop?

  • Marcus Navarro

Nintendo, shut up and take my mon-
Wait, what? You’ll give me some back?
    (o-0)=$$$$$—> (4_$)

  • Ramm

Its like them telling you let me fuck you and ill buy you a cheap meal. Haha this is no deal.

  • Aamir Islam

I guess this will help for those darn sale taxes -.-
