We already know that the Wii U packs some powerful hardware, according to some, it’s up to 50% more powerful than the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Now EA has added to the debate, with EA’s vice president Andrew Wilson saying that the Wii U is at least just as powerful as the current gen consoles, and will be able to handle anything that the Xbox 360 and PS3 can. Speaking to Eurogamer, Wilson also said,

“As every new piece of hardware and every new development library comes through we get a greater understanding of the power. With our early research we had been very happy with the output of the (Wii U, ed.) box and we expect that that will only go up moving forward.”

Wilson also said that they hope that the Wii U will surpass the Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of raw power. The Wii U has already attracted interest from high-profile developers and game engine makers, including Crytek with its CryEngine 3 and Id Software with the Id Tech 5 engine — both of which are coming to the Wii U.

Wii U is scheduled to be released approximately a year from now. Both Microsoft and Sony are rumored to be working on new consoles, but it is unknown whether they’ll see a release in 2012 or later.

This is good to know. I wish the Wii would’ve been just powerful enough to run games that were on 360. I mean, it could’ve been lower in specs but, still enought to run the games. It would’ve still looked better than the Wii actually does so…. Here’s hoping the between now and the release of the PS4/Xboxnext resolutions don’t jump to “REALITY ON THE SCREEN” and all devs. go to that only.

  • random WII U LOVER

most fps games will probobly need a speacal controller (like the one that came with the link crossbow game) and take aim with wiiu controller and see the screen (nintendo doent add crosshairs to the screen it takes the effect away from killing i meen if you add a red cross hair there would be no point in playing maybe add a advanced and beginner feature and be able to aim in the advanced mode)so this would be great for more than just arcade games gmes like battle field 3 and cod both need somthng new shooing peaple with a controller is just boring and all fps fans need somthing new like that somthing for pro gamers and casual gamers
