Released on the Wii U March 30th of last year, and before that on the Wii on August 2nd, 2012, Dragon Quest X is proving to be one of the most popular MMOs in Japan. A recent interview between the game’s producer and Japanese website 4Gamer revealed a great deal of information about the game’s playerbase.

According to producer Yosuke Saito:

We’ve only released the game in Japan, so you’ll be getting only Japan’s numbers, but we have about 300,000 people a day who actively enjoy the game. Thanks to having released version 2 at the end of last year, we’ve had even more active players since then.

He also mentioned that:

At the time, we feared that version 2 could have actually decreased the amount of players. However, that didn’t happen so we were relieved. Well, it was a little unexpected that people who purchased version 2 and haven’t even been to Lendagia [One of the main continents in Dragon Quest X]

But suggested that:

Maybe they’re spending their time in the casino. It feels as though they’re all playing at their own paces.

There has been talk before about the possibility of a Western release, and when Saito talks about having only the Japanese numbers it suggests that they might still be considering it. You can tide yourselves over while you wait by watching the trailer or looking at our screenshot gallery.

So what do you all think of this? Does the game look interesting to you? If it came out in the West would you get it?

If only there were this much when playing on other games…

  • I’d buy the heck out of this game if it comes westward

    • palomino blue

    • abe

Same i feel the Wii U could be home to JRPGs much like how the 3ds and Vita have done

      • Yeah, I’d really love to see that. There are some amazing JRPGs out there

    • hhfhfhf

me too and the wii u kicks ass…..

      • Indeed it does! I miss Dragon Quest IX… I should really replay it.

        • hhfhfhf

          sounds good to me…..

    • RyuNoHadouken

hells yeah!! Dragon Warrior was my first RPG ever on the NES!!!! Oh, to be a kid again!!

      • SP-937-215

Mine was Final Fantasy. But I didn’t beat it until 15 years later when I played it again on PSP. Those games were HARD.

        • RyuNoHadouken

yes, they were. golden age of gaming. fun games with a challenge

  • This game is a day one buy for me if it comes to America on Wii U.

  • classicgamer20

Please Square please bring this game to the west. I’ll buy all the shitty FF games you have just bring this game to the west.

  • Ducked

    Bring it to the west!

    • abe

the way i see the first guy to bring an JRPG to the Wii U will get much money. its just a case of will it be Namco or Square

      • Nathaniel Lopez

        By the looks of it…Monolithsoft

      • James Robert Thompson

More like Ubisoft with Child of Light or possibly Disastercake’s Soul Saga, and they’re not even Japanese… there’s something wrong with gaming right now…

    • Well, techincally Monster Hunter…

      But not really.

      But kinda

      • Spike Ashford

Keep in mind: X and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem are coming. Here’s hoping they’re the begging of long list of JRPs.

        • X for sure

SMT I’m not so sure… been a looong time since we heard from that, hasn’t it?

          • Spike Ashford

I’m sure it’s still on the way. Atlus likes to take their sweet time on games; comparable to Nintendo in that respect.

    • sillybajillies

to be honest i dont think this game will do well here. then again maybe itll be a system seller. a jrpg isnt really something that would make non-wii-lievers jump on the boat tho

  • Nintenjoe82

Is that 300,000 Wii U players or 300,000 Wii, PC and Wii U players?

    • That guy who hates Spike

Keep in mind it’s also on Wii and Android

    • fireheartis1

They are talking about version 2 which only came out on Wii U. That’s a lot of people playing a game at one time really. The Wii U has picked up in sells in Japan and suspect that this game is one of the reasons why.

      • Nintenjoe82

but it would still be like 1 in 5 Japanese Wii U owners online at any given time which is just crazy.

  • Sycamore

DQIX did extremely well here so they should definitely bring this westward.

  • BIG Franky

another shining example of Nintendo’s horrible mismanagement of its resources… the fact that this game hasn’t already been released in the West is an absolute FAIL of epic proportions.

    • Carlos Coronado

I think it also has something to do with Square to take that

    • abe

because console based subscription MMOS do so well in the west

    • NkoSekirei

no dude if ur going to blame someone blame square enix on this one

    • Nintenjoe82

yep, those 6,000 people that would buy a Wii U port of DQ and pay for the subscription are top priorities at the moment!

    • lonewolf

Nintendo doesn’t have anything to do with this game it’s just happens that you should released on a Nintendo console.

  • Shota

you guys 95% is the pc version

    • RecheDiazrivarola

:S MMM i think not because there are just so many many more copies for Wii and wiiu that for PC, its japan,Investigates please.

Everyone has a Wii at home.

      nice try.

      • Shota

Nice try? -.- i wasnt serious ,sarcasm. I’m here so long so you dont me. angry hipster ☺☺

    • Jon

between the Wii and the Wii U, there is 1 million copies of the game sold (about 80% of which are Wii) so I am going to assume that it is mostly the Wii and not the PC.

  • RecheDiazrivarola

    now i want it

  • C.S. Bailey

I keep hearing about this game in bits and pieces, but I’ve never really heard how good it is.

    • James Robert Thompson

It’s difficult to say, if you want Dragon Quest Online this is the best game ever, if you want a more traditional, challenging MMO, this is a great game, if you want all the modern conveniences of WoW (level checks, easy repetitive enemies and auto-regen) this game will look really dated and uninteresting.

It’ basically if MMOs where based on jRPGs rather than Diablo.

  • WiiUPS43DS

Depends on what this game is if it’s a hack and slash rpg im in

    • James Robert Thompson

No, it’s an old school (almost) trun based, menu based, jRPG that happens to be online.

      • WiiUPS43DS

Than no i will have to pass on that

  • Quicksilver88

Being a MMORPG Squeenix should bring this to west as an eShop only release. This would minimize the publishing risk and they could even do a WiiU bundle with a download code and 1 month subscription. It would be great to see some suprise come out of e3 for WiiU.

  • Donaald

Now, if only we had games like this one here in the west.

  • If you are into Dragon Quest stay tuned, I have something I’m working on related to this.

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

    Dragon Quest X come westward!

  • Brandon

the sad thing about this is square-enix’s and nintendo’s relationship is ruined even with dragon quest X the only version that will get released someday is…… the pc version. square-enix you suck!

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Bring to west then it will be ten times as more.

  • Dylan Clark

Japanese folk love them some RPG’s i swear

  • Justin Gray

Yeah I would play the daylights out of it and I have a little clan that would be joining me…

  • Capt. Smoker

Man…. this could be a great competitor for The elder scrolls online, I hope they bring it over here, I always wanted a console mmorpg and this one looks amazing, like all Dragon Quest worlds.

  • NkoSekirei

i do hope it comes out for north america soon

  • Nicholas Warren

cmoooon Nitny. Announce a U.S. release AT E3!

    • David Trail

I would love that and a UK version. It would have something PS4 and Xbox One lack. A good JRPG.

      • matthew garcia

Wii u lacks a good jrpg also. It’s a style of gaming I wished never died down. Jrpgs use to be developed like crazy I don’t know what happened. It’s my favorite genre of gaming

  • David Trail

I wish this game came out in the UK.

  • David Trail

Wii U is perfect for MMORPGS… Miiverse, free online, touch controllers. An MMORPG’S fans dream.

    • abe

yeah a few MMO devs said they’d love to develop for wii U because the pad solves the console mmo problem

    • matthew garcia

I like dragon quest but I think I would rather play something like elder scrolls online.

  • tom

Bring this game to North America!

  • Justin Rowan

Man this website is so convenient! It opens the App Store for me and tells me what games I should download. Thanks wiiu daily for doing this for me. Thanks again. Seriously thanks for opening the App Store every time I visit. You guys are the best. 🙂 again, thank you!

  • lonewolf88

ok… now release it in america.

  • Jeremy Baker

Would love to see this game here in the US come on guys translate package and ship our way.

  • Shchlong

I doubt 50,000 people in NA would play it.

  • Rodger_Ramjet

Wow! That’s great news for Nintendo online services! If only more people would catch on and play blops or ghosts! That would be something extra special

  • Zackary Bruley

    My god…

  • fireheartis1

My question is why the heck is it taking them so long. This game should have be localized westward last year. Many people in the west love the Dragon Quest series, so why didn’t they just release it? I would have bought it and it would have been my most played game. I’m willing to bet that it would have been a system seller and the Wii U wouldn’t be struggling this bad.

  • Cahone2

This is what I bought a Wii U for……….what I waited for 3+ yrs ago when it was announced…….and NINTENDO FUCKED US IN THE ASS.

  • William Cole

They better hurry up and decide if DQX is coming or not. It hurts that the last DQ game we had was 9 on DS and there has been 5 DQ games since then. It pains me so. Oh but bring over billions of ports of Final Fantasy I&II why don’tcha.
