During today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be delayed. The game was originally scheduled to be released in December, but Iwata stated that the team at Retro Studios needed more time to make sure the game was perfect before release. The new release date for the game is a tentative February 2014. No specific date was given, but we’ll share it with you as soon as we have it. Are you disappointed with the delay? Let us know in the comments below. local_offer donkey kong country tropical freeze Nintendo retro studios wii u stars Further Reading Legendary Pokemon coming to Pokemon Go The cost of Nintendo consoles in today's dollars Wii U gets firmware update Watch the Smash 4 EVO Finals on Disney XD Take a peek at this week’s Nintendo Dow 9 things you probably didn't know about Super Mario Bros. Super Buu Hopefully this will make the game better than ever. Magnus Eriksson Hopefully yes. But its not a good sign that Nintendo nevers manage to put the correct release dates. They never learns. Ducked They probaby never had any attentions on releasing it in December. They didn’t reveal it until E3, and they just wanted to let Wii U owners knkw that games are on the way Magnus Eriksson Could be so. My secret fantasy is that a part of them started on a Metroid game, and therefore must delay. But thats just a fantasy 😀 Ducked That be a pretty awesome fantasy! Petri I’m cool with that. Way too many games to play this year anyway. And my gaming allowance would have not been sufficient for all the games that were coming, but now I can keep it balanced. rp17 I was going to have to wait for this anyway, with all the other games this year. Ony Means… Retro will start working on Metroid on february ? :° Magnus Eriksson please understand person Maybe they’ll add a hidden trailer for their next game which will be Metroid palomino blue So many great games coming out this month. I don’t think we NEED DK right away. person I don’t mind. There’s at least 15 good games out for the Wii U already. In addition to Wind Waker HD, Watch Dogs and AC IV which are all coming out this year. Anyone who is getting those games and still needs another before 2014, has either too much money or time on their hands oontz Or they just enjoy playing video games. person Yes, you’re right. But I think the Wii U has enough games out/coming out for one game delay to not be a problem Re4wii2008 How were people predicting a Delay yesterday? crocodileman94 Well, now I don’t have to choose between 3DWorld and this. Zuxs13 Don’t really care for this game but the WiiU desperately needed more games this holiday and loosing a Retro made game is a huge mistake for Nintendo. Guess ill just “keep waiting” for them to make something good after Wind Waker. Chronic Gang Is not the biggest game coming Zuxs13 oh so only the biggest game matters? or the fact that nothing “big” is coming out past Nov. Magnus Eriksson Why is everyone with a reasonable voice downvoted on this page. This clearly is a bad thing for Nintendo. People here sometimes tend over to the secterian way of thinking. There must be room for critical voices without downvoting. david jarman The down vote is for those who don’t agree. So what you’re saying is everybody needs to agree with everybody? Magnus Eriksson Not true. Downvoting sends your comment down, while upvoting up. To show disagreement you simply makes a comment, instead of downvoting. david jarman Down voting actually sends it nowhere. I’ve seen people with the most down votes near the top of the list because it was popular and also had comments on it. Most people down vote cause you don’t agree with them and what they posted irritates you to make an action. Magnus Eriksson Are you sure about this? david jarman Do you down vote people you agree with? Given that there a few immature people that do it for pure spite, but a lot people down vote comments that they don’t like. Why don’t they like em? Cause they don’t agree with them. Simpler to hit a down vote then it is to leave a rational response. Daniel Gonzalez I don’t actually downvote those who I don’t agree with. Reason being I guess would be because it’s a pointless system for the most part. If I disagree with you, I say it to you through posts and not through a cheap cop out of a system. Plain and simple. david jarman Sometimes its best to not say anything and move on. Daniel Gonzalez I agree with that. Speaking for myself, I only respond when I have something to say that I feel is the truth and then from there I leave it alone, unless that commentator says something that keens my interest. Otherwise, I just leave them be, especially if it’s trolling. I do at times will say something back and from there I say what I wanna say, and leave them be. After that, they can keep responding back looking like fools. I don’t feed them anymore than they deserve. Magnus Eriksson I rarely downvote, but yes it happens. I downvote namecalling and unconstructive attacks on people. I prefer to discuss things I disagree with. Also Im here to discuss, not cheering for no reason. If Im happy with something Nintendo does, then I say it. If Im unhappy, well then I say it too. If people disagree, then Im open for discussion and debate. If I realize that I was wrong, then I have no problem to admit that either. david jarman Ok, but that’s still because you disagree with that persons behavior and remarks. Which is fine. I only upvote if I agree, but sometimes I don’t want to take part in a discussion cause there are too many people already involved or I have too many of my own discussions going on. Magnus Eriksson Its really not about agreeing or disagreeing when it comes to hateful comments. Hatespeech is not an opinion you know. david jarman You’re either going to like or dislike a comment. Which is an opinion cause its how you feel about that comment. Which in one form or another, you either share that view or feel the same or you don’t. Hate speech is a form of an opinion cause its someone’s view or judgement on a person or race. Daniel Gonzalez If a comment irritates someone, then perhaps comment sections aren’t for them. david jarman Everybody gets irritated by comments at one point in time and you’re no exemption. Daniel Gonzalez Funny enough, on here, I actually don’t. Lol. I think if anything, I find them funny, the one’s that are trying to insult me of course. Even If we don’t agree, I don’t get irritated since we are in a discussion that has various opinions, so there is no real reason to be irritated unless someone is being an ignorant fool. Do you get irritated? If I ever do, it’s going to be something that’s of more importance, like real life. david jarman So you’re better then everybody who got irritated by ignorant remark and express their opinion about it? Come on, man. Everybody had been irritated at one point or another. Even you. You and everybody else spend enough time in here like it was more important then real life. Come on man. If you’re going to discuss at least be completely on honest about it. Daniel Gonzalez Unless you know me and see my expression in real life, then you have nothing to actually judge me on. Lol. I did admit that I get irritated with real life issues, but not online as it’s nothing for me to be irritated about. If you do David, then that’s a personal problem. That in no way makes me better than you or anyone else. Don’t assume, cause it gets you nowhere. If my honesty isn’t enough for you, then that’s your problem, not mine. As for spending time on here, sounds like a lame insult and typical one at that. Was that your way of trying to irritate me? ;P Just asking, cause just because some of us are on here often, doesn’t mean we spend our every second on here. A lot of my studies from school revolve around the pc, so it does give me more time to have discussions on here. With all this said, continue if you must. I’m not explaining myself any more than that. Take care dude. 🙂 david jarman I don’t know how you took that as a lame insult when it was just an observation. But this is real life. You and I are really communicating in real life. It’s not a personal problem to have a human emotion or response by someone’s remarks. Do books or poems not move people? Does the newspaper not make someone sad or upset or the funnies invoke a smile or laughter? It’s not a personal issue to be effected by words. It’s how we react or respond that makes it a personal issue. Daniel Gonzalez Indeed. No matter how much truth you there is to any comment. If it’s against Nintendo, expect a ton of downvotes. This is why the voting system should be taken off the site. It’s abused more than used fairly, but I digress. Daniel Gonzalez Downvotes on this site I’m sure are abused more often when it comes to the middle ground people like Magnus and myself. It’s not to say that there is a good amount who do it out of disagreement, but on a Nintendo driven site, where tons of fanboys exist, it’s easy to tell that the downvotes we get are because we don’t spead the Nintendo love as much as they expect us to. People like us just aren’t puppets. Plain and simple. People can hate us and that’s cool, but speaking for myself here, I’d rather have my own opinion than follow most of the crazy fanboys that can’t take criticism where it’s due. My two cents. david jarman Just giving you a hard time ;D Nintenjoe82 I see you got no downvotes for that unreasonable comment. I think Nintendo have delayed it to avoid another huge game drought after xmas. It’s not good news but I think Mario looks better and was more important to get out for Xmas than DKR. Guest It is not a problem for me, since I have a lot of games pending due to a recent lack of time, but I feel bad for those who really wanted it badly. Iwas going to buy Mario 3D World, DKC and Zelda. Good news is that I got a better impression from Mario 3D World. It did not impress me too much after the Galaxy ones, but having seen some more gameplay I got a much better impression. What I am worried about is that this delay will impact negatively on WiiU sales this Christmas. Nintendo really needs those sales or the little 3rd party support will disappear. Ubisoft said they will check the situation again after Christmas. They have been very supportive on the WiiU, but if they do not sell, they might not have other choice but to stop supporting it, which would be bad, since I have bought a lot of their games for WiiU and they are great. Man, things like this really piss me off. Ross Brocklesby It’s all waiting and the wii u has waited long enough. This is a set back the wii u does not need and before Christmas! Trading my wii u in while it’s still worth something! Yoshifan3 already did it and paid off my ps4 🙂 Rob Lucci You traded in your WiiU but your bitching about a delayed game on a console you don’t own anymore?…lol John Andalora Ross and YoshiFan are different people. You do know that, right? Rob Lucci Read “Yoshifan3” comments carefully. John Andalora What are you getting at? Ross said he’s gonna trade in his Wii U, YoshiFan said he already did and paid off the PS4. Your point? Also, from what I see in other comments, he’s not bitching about the game. He’s glad he’s done with Wii U. Rob Lucci Oh lord, Yoshi is going “off” about how Nintendo delayed a DKC but apparently he/she/it traded in his WiiU already. So why is he /she/it so upset about a delayed game on a console he/she/it doesn’t own anymore. John Andalora Maybe because delays and lack of games are reasons WHY people sell this console an leave. I take it he’s just gloating about how he jumped ship and no longer has to deal with it. Jon but there isn’t really a lack of games, The console is less than a year old. Most consoles do not have mountains of games at this age. John Andalora Maybe i should change my phrasing: “A lack of games most people are considering purchasing a Wii U for.” Johnny Star Rob apparently can’t read that Yoshifan did not gripe about the delay, it was Ross complaining about the delay. Yoshifan was just saying he was tired of all the crap with the WiiU and made the better decision and traded his WiiU in to pay off a pre-order on a superior console. iHateWhatULove You won’t regret it. 🙂 Yoshifan3 hehe, thanks dude. 🙂 too all the people thinking im gloating, im not. im just sick and tired of nintendo delaying their first party games and lack of third party support. john is right, the games that make people want to buy a wii u are getting delayed till next year, the only killer title nintendo has this holiday is mario 3d world, thats not enough! Donkey Kong is what was gonna move consoles more than mario. and im a die hard mario fan. John Andalora I’m considering it. iHateWhatULove I’m already set receive mines this November. Nintendo fanboys may not like me for saying that, but that’s just how it is. Maybe if Nintendo gave me something to actually play for my Wii U or did something new and unique, maybe I wouldn’t have. I’ve yet to see them do anything unique with the gamepad, same old current gen graphics, same old franchises being released, and still no unified accounts. What do they expect? Lil J Moore It’s things like this that make me question peoples intelligent. Every console starts with so few games what’s so hard to understand about that? starwars360 You been silly. Should keep it until games you want. Kinda of waste your money. You should leave Wii U and play other games on other consoles until games on Wii U release that you want. Simply. Ross Brocklesby I was joking lol but I’m a little upset, that game was supposed to be released on my 26th birthday would have been nice to have summet cool to play starwars360 Awwwww. I understand but game need to more time as Nintendo explains. We not want unpolished game? It is good give Retro Studios extra time in developing and make sure new series of DKC going be epic and best in the series. This what Nintendo, Retro and DKC fans as well myself want. 🙂 darkcreap Oh, man. Not a problem for me, since I have too little time and a lot of unbeaten WiiU games (too many, probably), but this really worries me. If they do not sell consoles they might not grow the install base enough and will definitely lose third party support. This is really bad. Even Ubisoft, which has been very positive about WiiU, has said they will recheck the situation after this Christmas. Nintendo cannot afford to screw it badly. Jon Turner No, the lineup they have is good enough to sell new units. If they released this in December, it would be competing against Mario 3D. It’s not going to go downhill anytime soon. Yoshifan3 i dont get how you guys are cool with this. this is a HUGE game for the wii u, and its not coming till after the holidays, nintendo screwed up yet again! bad decision after bad decisions and iwata expects me to please understand? he can take that phrase and shove it. i cant believe the amount of fanboyism that goes on in these comments. “oh well, i dont mind.” “as long as the game is better” “who cares? theres so many good games” anyone who says those words are pure freaking fanboys of the highest caliber. darkcreap It is bad indeed. The WiiU has to have a great holiday or third party support will completely vanish. I don’t know what the hell Nintendo is thinking. I guess they want to prevent DKC to compete with Mario. Nevertheless, this is not good. The 3DS got OK because Sony screwed it up with the Vita, but the WiiU will have 2 very strong competitors. I don’t mean strong in terms of raw computing power, which I do not really care, I mean strong in terms of support. Fortunately, the impression I got from Mario 3D World today was much better than at E3. I am more positive regarding that game right now. Rob Lucci 3ds got “ok” because Sony screwed up?….sure. darkcreap I mean, it was not only because Sony did it badly. The 3DS is where it is due to good first party support which increased the install base and brought in the third parties. The 3DS had no other competitor than the Vita, which we all know is not doing ok. The 3DS is virtually alone in the dedicated handheld market and that helps. The WiiU is going to face two very strong competitors, so even if WiiU is alright, it is not going to be as easy as it was for the 3DS to be in such a good position. I know people whose reference home console is PlayStation, but for handhelds they go Nintendo. One of them had a PSP, but has decided to buy a 3DS and has not even mentioned Vita. Unfurtunately, that seems to happen to WiiU when people talk about home consoles. Despite being great value, WiiU is being unfiarly ignored. Nintendo is not doing things right with WiiU. You can afford one mistake when you have only one competitor, like with dedicated handhelds, but in home consoles they have two, and they are not weak ones. The good thing is that Nintendo is the only one that offers a really different product. Rob Lucci Only fanboys care about “console wars”… Yoshifan3 you should probably heed your own advice, and stop being a fanboy. Rob Lucci I could really care less how much console is sold for any company. Yoshifan3 *how many consoles are sold* not how much console is sold. fixed it for you. 😉 Rob Lucci Now that you corrected my grammar you can go back to crying about a video game company sales number. Yoshifan3 lol I have no intention of doing that. I could really care less how many Wii Us are sold. BECAUSE I DONT OWN ONE ANYMORE LOL! Rob Lucci So why you so “upset” about a delayed game you don’t own anymore? Zuxs13 i agree with you this was a huge mistake by Nintendo. “the Wii U will pick up next year just you wait”! Derian D’Intino I totally agree. DKC Returns was one of the best games for the Wii and possibly one of the best platforms ever and it’s still selling very well yet Metroid sells around 1 mill each and people are still bitching it’s not another forth Metroid prime game. I bet if the same delay happened for one of the vastly inferior New Super Mario Bros games people would lose their minds. Jon have you seen the games coming this holiday? There is a lot and honestly, delaying one is not going to make too much of a difference considering how if you have a whole bunch of games come all at once, I would be less likely to get them all as it would be very hard on my wallet and then as time passes, I might forget/ or just not be as interested. Also, delaying is not a bad thing. Take Wind Waker for example for the GC. It was rushed and they had to cut two dungeons out to make deadlines. I would rather they use more time to give all content then to have to rush and slash content. Luffy Why would me preferring that they take there time to make a greater game make me a fan boy? I wish every game developer took that approach! Vile-Okami It’s fine. I’d hate to see it get overlooked during the two new console launches. blindtiger its really not that huge… delaying 3d world would be huge but dkc is just another 2d remake. i cant wait for it! but i can wait for it… Derian D’Intino How is it a remake because it’s a direct sequel? But that logic 3D world is a remake of 3D land, Mario kart 8 is a remake of Mario kart 7 and Smash Bros 4 is a remake of Brawl. At least it’s been over three years since the last DK game but since 3D land around two years ago there’s been what two other Mario games? I don’t know why Donkey Kong doesn’t get any praise meanwhile Mario gets all the glory, don’t get me wrong I love the Mario games but the DK games seem to put more effort and soul into their games IMO. blindtiger i just said remake because its a 2d game like they made 20 years ago… i played those games then and so i am completely in love with dkc returns and new super mario bros. however they are not quite on the same level of “new” as a 3d mario, zelda, starfox, etc. Derian D’Intino I know what you mean and I see your point but I consider these new DKC games are on a whole new level to be calling them remakes rather than “reboots” or “revivals” because they play very differently despite having different names. blindtiger there is a stigma about the word “remake” in gaming… i apologize for any negative implications Derian D’Intino No worries man you have the entire entertainment industry to thank for that. It’s just wondering how it’s one of the best selling and critically acclaimed wii games yet now one fucking cares about it and just brush it off claiming “It’s not yet another metroid” or “we have enough Wii U games till christmas” which is BS because we have Mario 3D world, that’s it, the rest are 3rd parties, strictly multiplier or actual remakes like wind waker HD which I will play but I guess I’m just being negative. After all at least Tropical freeze will be good to hold us off until the real two system sellers, the big guns and possibly the two most important games of any Nintendo system that is Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Satoru Iwata Please understand and buy another Wii U. You know you can’t resist the power that is Nintendo. We don’t play with power, we are the power! bizzy gie Typical. Not surprised one bit. Nintendo is never exact with release dates and they ones they give can never be trusted. The delay almost everything. The Summer update still isn’t here (although we got a pretty a sweet one today). Flipnote was suppose to be on 3DS in August. Pikmin 3 ETC. It’s kind of annoying because they make some of the most exciting software ever, but I know it’s for perfection so I understand. starwars360 That is ok. I understand games need to take time during developing.. Cannot wait for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD this week then Sonic: Lost World then Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut then Super Mario 3D World and Mario & Sonic’s new Olympic sport game then Scribblenauts Unlimited (out December 2013 and UK and Europe is late release for this game). All on Wii U. As well lots of Wii U games on way in 2014. I knew there plenty multiformat titles for Wii U this month to Christmas but most of them I get it on Xbox 360 and Xbox One though. springer85 LMFAO!!!ANOTHER Nintendo game that has been delayed!! All these delays are what has ruined the Wii U’s first year!!! Nintendo used the pathetic’ we did not know how long it would take to make a HD game’!!LMFAO The Wii U is dead!! Yoshifan3 man you are hilarious! i mean it too! i pretty much agree with this post as well. except the very last part, we dont know that yet, but i guarentee it will have a REALLY hard time competing with the ps4 and xbox one. Lil J Moore I find these statements hilarious. I mean hear me out first. When the Wii was announced everybody said the ps3 and 360 were gonna blow it out of the water. Look what happened. They said the 3ds wouldn’t stand a chance in hell against the Vita. LMAO. Look what happened. So I doubt the ps4 and Xbox1 will sell like hotcakes. Petri Well, these type of gamers aka “hardcore gamers” aka fanboys. Are the minority of the consumer base, that purchase these devices. Lil J Moore Wait I buy and play on all systems. does that make me a “hardcore gamer”? Petri I don’t really know the definition any more, nor do I wish to be labelled as “hardcore gamer”. Lil J Moore I always wonder what that meant Petri I used to think it was someone who was just super enthusiastic about games, no matter what the platform. But it seems to be someone who commonly goes full retard on discussion boards? Little trooper of console wars? Jon in this day an age, I don’t want to be labelled a hardcore gamer even though I play games on a variety of platforms for the simple reason of what the world now calls hardcore gamers. Lil J Moore Agreed blindtiger i think hardcore means mature games… but what is a fanboy? William Short First of all hardcore gamers are the people who truly love gaming in general, it should not matter what console you playing on as long as you playing for the love of it. People who plays Nothing but mature game are overgrown children that wanted to do that stuff like runnning around shooting, racing and all that other “Mature” stuff when they were young in my opinion Yoshifan3 LOL at me being a fanboy. ive owned and played nintendo consoles my whole life, bought every freaking system nintendo had. this is my first playstation console, so now im a fanboy just because i like what the ps4 has to offer moreso than the wii u? im not a freaking troll and say “wii u? its more like PEE U!” besides, i had every intention of getting a ps4 from the get go. Jon doesn’t matter, there is plenty of games coming out and now I will have time to play them before this one. Once I am done with them, This one will come out and will tide me over for the other great games coming in 2014. Michael DeVore I wonder if delaying into the Olympics is a wise move. Schultz38 No wonder the Wii U is doing horrible. As avid of a Nintendo fan I am, these delays are ridiculous. And right at the holiday season too. Not a smart marketing decision. DragonSilths “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.” Hope Retro adds 2 player online co-op. William Short He’s right you know John Andalora Aliens: Colonial Marines. That is all. DragonSilths You think a Miyamoto quote applies to Aliens??? Thats insulting to Miyamoto. Lets be honest the Aliens game WAS NEVER meant to be good. They thought they could make money off a shitty game cause of the name, they got caught in their illusion and there yah go. John Andalora A quote is nothing more than a string of words. Who said it doesn’t make it more or less true. There have been a lot of games that hold no benefit from getting delayed, and Aliens had great promise before. 6 years of putting off and a hacked up job turned what could have been an awesome premise into a horrible disaster. blindtiger that may be true for a lot of games but nintendo games have more polish than most… nintendo delays are usually worth it. Guest Like Game and Wario, right? John Andalora “Nintendo games have more polish than most” Like Game & Wario, right? blindtiger dont pick the worst as your example… think about the best… add your knowledge of retro and donkey kong and youll be fine John Andalora Why not? It is a Nintendo game, after all. blindtiger youre welcome to be as negative as you want but dont confuse it with reality… i used words like “most” and “usually.” nobody is perfect but i am more than confident dkc will be awesome. Mario You are so right about that. Schultz38 I agree with that logic to an extent. But if the system dies…. DragonSilths Even if only 1 Wii U was total life time sales thats not a fail. The system wont “Die” thats literally impossible. Rich Garriques actually it is , nintendo knows once new consoles release they will get most of the attention not to mention the hit releases coming to those consoles as well. it would take all the attention away from nintendos first party games. smart move by nintendo. they know mario will still sell regardless of this hype as it is the new 3d mario game no one will miss. Schultz38 If Sony and MS are going to be getting special attention this holiday, then shouldn’t Nintendo work harder to be in the spotlight? Seriously asking. Mario will sell well compared to other Wii U titles. Not for a system that’s been on the market for a year now. My point is not if the titles will sell; but will the system itself sell? And sell enough to regain 3rd party support in 2014? EVERYONE has been saying Nintendo needs a strong FIRST PARTY line up this holiday season for the Wii U to stay afloat. I’m not saying it won’t stay afloat after this, but it seems to me they could do a lot better than they are. Prince_AKR It may seem unthinkable at the moment, but N has some valid reasons: 1.) Retro is allegedly working on more than one project. 2.) Super Mario 3D World would be releasing right before this, thus the two would be combating each other. 3.) The game could very well be in need of some extra fine-tuning. Nintendo takes pride in their titles. Very rarely do you find any game-breaking glitches in need of a patch. There’s still a ton of content coming nonetheless: – Wii Sports Club – Wii Fit U – Wii Party U – Just Dance 2014 – Skylanders: Swap Force – Super Mario 3D World – Sonic Lost World – M&S: @ the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games – Watch_Dogs – ACIV: Black Flag – CoD: Ghosts – Dues Ex: Human Revolution – and a plethora of Indie titles One delay isn’t going to ruin the batch. At least this would bridge the wait-time between the beginning of the year and the yet to be announced release date of MK8. Schultz38 Half of those games are 3rd party titles. That’s part of the problem. Nintendo needs more first party titles. I’m not saying I know what’s best for the Big N, but I’m saying from my viewpoint what they are doing is dumb. I doubt that any of the “Wii” titles will be huge system sellers. So that leaves (as far as first party titles go) Mario 3D World? Shouldn’t there be at least more than 1 system-selling-can’t-live-without-gotta-have-it title coming from Nintendo at what the world is saying is the most crucial point in the Wii U’s history? Like I said, not claiming to know it all. Just claiming that I don’t understand. And from what it seems to me, dumb. Martijn Plasmans That’s not our problem. We are consumers. Consumers have nothing to do with what titles the studio’s are working on… We consumers that have a Wii U want Nintendo games for our console and consumers without a Wii U need reasons to buy it. Now there is 1 less reason to buy a Wii U which is bad. Prince_AKR @martijnplasmans:disqus and @schultz38:disqus While it may seem that the pushback of DK is a bad thing; you need to put it in the right perspective. Two big-name franchises launching one right after the other on the SAME platform, each of a similar genre That’s an over-saturation and inevitably one will run-over the other. You don’t want that to happen as both games would suffer. Martijn Plasmans You don’t get my point since you start looking at Nintendo’s perspective. Our perspective (consumers) is that we want dozens of games for every genre so we can choose which games we want and even buy a Wii U because of all those great titles. I don’t think that the games will suffer because the months after november are also very quiet with Nintendo titles, so it don’t matter. Sylux I can only agree with you, since WiiU launched I had no need in getting the system the one game which would do it for me was Monster Hunter 3U but why would I buy the system and the game while I can also buy the game alone for my 3DS which I allready have? The few options I had left to justify a WiiU would have been watch dogs and ACIV but learning ps3/PS4 have one hour extra gameplay added exclusively to PS, I’m sorry but that makes the WiiU versions far less interesting same for xbox versions… Then there was for me Sonic Lost World and DKC:TF making it worth a late year/holiday purchase but with DKC being delayed I end up on the same situation as MH3U, this time for sonic I’ll get it on 3DS. DKC and Sonic would make my WiiU purchase option viable but as said the delay in one shot makes me delay a WiiU purchase to possibly June 2014 not sooner, other games like mk8, X and Bayonetta and smash brothers probably won’t be released before 2nd half 2014 and the real new zelda probably won’t be available before 2015. So I agree Nintendo at the moment is making mistake after mistake on WiiU since it’s launch. Sorry all but that is how I feel about WiiU now from all games being released sadly very few have my interest, the only ones that have my interest are written above (sonic, dkc, mh3u, bayonetta, smash and X) Jon ok, not necessarily a bad thing. It will give me time to play the other games they have coming…..my poor wallet…. Martijn Plasmans FAIL. one of the 2 interesting games for me and one of them gets delayed? iHateWhatULove The only Wii U game that’s probably worth something(snce it’s made by Retro) and it gets delayed. -_- Nintendo is a bunch of idiots. Satoru Iwata No Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for you. Bad fan! Sydney Ultrasyd Not a problem for me, i’m not interested (Windwaker, Assassin’s Creed IV, Watch_dogs is enough for me), and many of you say “it’s not a problem for me” too, but I think that it is a problem for Nintendo and for our Wii U in general. They have to sell a lot around Christmas. No one can say that one more game delayed is a not a problem for Nitendo. My console is turning into an Ubisoft gaming platforme 😀 darkcreap Yes, something similar here: got ZombiU pack, then AC3 and Rayman Legeds. Looking forward for AC4 and Watchdogs. My fear is that even Ubisoft might consider stop supporting the WiiU if they do not sell well this Christmas. It would be a pity, because I am really liking Ubisoft games (I used to be very closed regarding 3rd party titles on Nintendo consoles). What is more, I think Ubisoft is making in some of their games a better use of the gamepad than Nintendo (at least to the present date), which is really strange to me. See for instance Rayman Legends compared to New Super Mario Bros U. The use of the gamepad in Mario U is quite limited. In Rayman Legends they did some very good uses. Same applies to ZombiU. It would be a shame to lose Ubisoft as a 3rd party supporter. To put it into perspective, I always have had Nintendo consoles/handhelds only and 3rd party games do not usually appeal to me, but Ubisoft seems to have some really good stuff, so I am wishing them to stay and give more variety to the WiiU catalogue. Sydney Ultrasyd I 500% agree for the Gamepad use. I wonder how Rayman looks like on the other consoles, but on Wii U the variety of the game play is great. As I said in the survey that Nintendo sent after my purchase of Rayman, this game is now my new reference in the platform genre. Cool innovations here. Mario makes no use of the Gamepad, and you can’t even turn it off when you play on the TV (can you ? Maybe I’m wrong there), which is just eating more batteries for nothing. I didn’t like the graphics in Zombie U, but the use of the GamePad was good. And I’m sure we can expect something great in Watch Dogs for the hacking stuff (that + graphics between current and next gen would be great). I love Nintendo games (even though I must recognise I’m fed up with Mario 2D and 3D world), but Ubisoft brings some quality adult games as an alternative. As you said, they will check the situation after christmas, and they are going to get more people at Ubisoft Montreal, but I doubt they will maintain efforts for Wii U if sales on this console are low. I have a friend who is working on Assassin’s Creed IV, maybe he can tell me more from the inside. Petri Rayman gameplay on 360 looks boring. Might have been the player though. Mercurio2054 just dance 2014, assassin’s, watch dogs and mario 3d for me, i will not have time for another game. this year. Simon Stevens I’m disapointed, would of made a great christmas present for my son, looked forward to it myself, hopefully that’s the last of the delays now, Mario 3d world will sell the system come the holidays, they can’t afford to lose that title. Guest Not the news I was hoping to read today… I’m still unsure if the game would interest me, but the Wii U desperately needs software and a good time would be before this holiday season. I’d love to see an article about a dramatic sales increase… Maybe the possibility of entering China will turn things around? Rostizz I am honestly more sad that Nintendo took off all the Donkey Kong Country(s) from VC. Those were by far my favorite SNES games. I don’t think these are half as challenging or fun. Needless to say I will probably buy it because I love the franchise. Petri Weren’t they forced to do that? Something to do with Rare? Rostizz I think so. Rare was bought by Microsoft. They only make crappy games for the kinect now Leo At least they got David Wise back on board! there still hope! C4 Ouch. Bad news. Personally I can wait 2 or 3 more month for that game, though. Zorpix Please Understand Luffy Not a problem, really. Just make it amazing, and I’m happy to wait! Thomas Vienna Well, this limits my possibilities of what I could be getting for Christmas 🙁 But, over all, I’m rather patient, so I’m not disappointed. I just started playing Donkey Kong Country Returns on the 3DS, so I’m not exactly aching for the next one to come. Truthteller That would sound nice, but what if you don’t deal with handhelds and only want home consoles? Thomas Vienna Well, I wasn’t speaking for the general public, I was just speaking about my unique situation. Honestly, though, now that we have one less title coming before Christmas, that limits the options of Nintendo games parents can get their children. This Wii U come-back we’re supposed to have isn’t turning out the way it’s supposed to. Not to be as pessimistic as you usually are, Truthteller, but I can’t deny that this is bad news for Wii U. At least Nintendo isn’t selling us short of this game. Guest I’m disappointed because it was originally gonna be released on my bossy! Truthteller I wrote it many times and i’ll write it again – it’s over for the Wii U. NOW I think even the most aggressive supporters will have to agree at this point. If I had a Wii U, I would get rid of it now while I can still get some kind of money out of it. NkoSekirei no its over for u retarded troll go back to ur bridge Johnny Star Why do people call others trolls when they speak a lot of truth? If ANYONE thinks the skies are clear and sunny for Nintendo, you have obviously had a veil pulled over your eyes. I too own a WiiU, but am constantly wondering why I still own it. Deadpool U You two are idiots. Vile-Okami I think it’s probably a good thing. It’s only a short delay, and it will be coming out at a much better time. The shiny effect of the new consoles will have worn off by then, and it won’t get looked over during the Christmas rush. Brandon Gardner I know sometimes games have technical problems during the making of the game to cause delay but Nintendo has this problem too many times with promising a release date and not sticking to it MujuraNoKamen I fully understand the need to fully optimize a game before releasing it but this just getting ridiculous now!!! Retro haven’t had full project since Metroid Prime 3 in 2007 and since then have only helped with MK7 so they must have been working on this for ages and they can’t get it right. Let’s face it DK Country is hardly a gigantic project like Metroid Prime was and they can’t get it sorted. I’ve normally been pretty relaxed with Nintendo’s delays but you’d have thought they’d have sorted themselves out by now. blindtiger im ok with it. more time for them to fine tune and for me to save up money for all the games coming up! Ducked Before people complain, please understand this is a good thing for the Wii U. This will help the no new games boarder that the Wii U had in early 13. December is a big shopping month, but most people in North America shop in November. Now we have DK TR and MK8 in early 14. Satoru Iwata Stop stealing my catchphrases! Ducked I didn’t read your posts Satoru Iwata I know what I’m having for dinner tonight. Ducked Whoa there! I’ve got a magic staff to cast thunder. Alongside I have a keyblade master on guard. DarkLegacy Would that “Keyblade Master” be referring to me? of course who else? Riku, Aqua anyone. lol DarkLegacy Winner winner chicken dinner! Rayotron Prime It could be that they (nintendo) entrusted the finish development of DK to other studio, and now Retro will begin working on the next Metroid…mmm yeah… i hope. greengecko007 Not at all surprised, though I don’t think this will hurt Wii U holiday sales too much. The only people I know that are actually excited for this game are die hard Nintendo fans. Mark I do find this disappointing because the holiday season’s just around the corner, but hey, it’s typical Nintendo fashion, and I didn’t expect Nintendo to change wit the flip of a switch. Anyways, the bright side about this is the fact Retro Studios is doing this out of good faith; they want to give us the game when it’s absolutely polished. Although I still believe this game should come out in December, patience is a virtue. Justin Scott I don’t think this is a technical issue. To me I think it is a business decision. They had too many games coming out in too small of a window, and they don’t want to compete against themselves. I could be wrong, but I thought months ago they were loading the back end of the year with too many first party titles. Shigeru Miyamoto I agree. .. though i wish they would go and release it anyways.. since theres been this drought but I’m sure youre right… this smells like a business decision… like you said, too many games well not too many but they probably don’t wanna compete with themselves. they know theyll make more money spreading it out evenly Gabe Hoffman That could be likely. The delay was likely for more polish as well as to help carry momentum into early next year Merrfn Bad move Nintendo… Daniel Gonzalez Yep, this is not the time for delays. Especially during the holiday season around the corner. At the very least, if it means polishing the game more then it’s understandable. Still disappointing to the average Nintendo fan, though. Merrfn If they delay Smash bros or Mario Kart… I WILL NOT UNDERSTAND! (referring to what Iwata will say) Daniel Gonzalez Hahaha. If they did that considering those games won’t be out until at least Spring of next year, that will be a big blow to Nintendo fans. For their sake, they better be on time. Merrfn When is spring of next year? I dont live in America so the seasons always confuse me. Autumn? (fall) Daniel Gonzalez My bad. Spring is between March 20th to June 21st in the U.S. Where do you hail from? Merrfn The seasons basically are flipped I think. So in New Zealand we have christmas in summer etc. Always confuses me when people are saying “SUMMER HOLIDAYS YYEEEEAAAAHHH!” because that is when schools over here finish there second term (semester?) Daniel Gonzalez Yeah, I know what you mean. I don’t think I could get used to Christmas in the summer, even though some of us do have Christmas in July. 😛 Merrfn Dude, what are you smoking!? SUMMER CHRISTMAS IS THE FUCKING BOMB BRO! ;P sd Its all about your childhood. If you grow up in the heat its probably great. But seriously how many christmas stories/films do you see set in summer. A Snowy christmas is so much better. Merrfn Kids wake up and open presents. For lunch a big feast is sprawled on the table out on the deck in the sunshine. Pavlova with strawberry and passionfruits for dessert. They go out to the beach and float in the cooling blue water. Exploring the rocks, time with family. Go back to being cold, you winter dweller! P.S Christmas stories/movies are set in winter to tie in with Santa, and 90% of the worlds population live in the northern hemisphere (winter christmas) sd I think it is all tied to where you grow up as a kid. I have children of my own who will grow up in Australia. I wonder if they will be of this attitude as well. Although we do go back to the UK at christmas on occassions, so maybe they will just see everything as normal. My first christmas on the beach was very odd. sd Christmas in the summer is just odd. Its not christmas at all. I grew up with cold winters, now I live in Aus and get 40 degrees. Very odd. While I cook my turkey the fair dinkum Aussies are having cold meat and salads, that’s no way to eat at christmas. Daniel Gonzalez Agreed. In our case, it’s just the fact we grew up with it. Even so, I hate the summer, not really a fan of hot weather. sd I love the heat now. But one advantage of winter at chsristmas is the lights. If is dark by 5pm then all of the Christmas lights stand out much better. Also they use far more decorations, things are much more understated down under compared to what I am used to. But for my children this will be the norm. DarkLegacy Why would you have Christmas in July? I never had Christmas in July but only December and July is my Birthday month. but it’s probably just area difference if that’s right Daniel Gonzalez No, we have Christmas here in December. Christmas in July is just a way for America to get a head start on the holidays. I never understood it either. DarkLegacy I didn’t either. but I only knew about December but when I heard some of them having Christmas in July that just confused me but I don’t understand why some would have Christmas in July sd They have already delayed Mario Kart and I nearly sold my Wii U because of it. Resident evil revelations and Pikmin 3 saved the day. But if sales don’t pick up by early next year I will jump a sinking ship, so I hope this doesn’t upset their potential sales. I understand that there are a lot of platform games, but at the same time the Wii U needs to be over saturated with top quality games to boost sales. Nintendo need to pull out all of the stops. They also need to be getting ready to show us more games for next year. If after Donkey Kong they have a huge gap with very few game releases, like they did this year, the system will die. Niknique Noooooo!! I was so hyped for this game! The last one was so good! Well… I guess I can play the HD remake of Wind Waker while I wait. Daniel Gonzalez I can understand why they did this. I would guess there’s a clutter of games this holiday, so they want to space releases a bit as to not butcher sales. At this point Nintendo is really dependent on sales to increase, so hope this works out for them. Satoru Iwata Please understand, that this will only maximize sales as spacing out our releases is good for business and for Nintendo. I hope you can forgive us and continue the support. Thank you very much for your patience. e_rocket As if they needed more help to sell bad SuperSonicBrawler Who cares? Sonic’s in the next Smash Bros. and I hadn’t planned on buying this anyway. The Wii U’s got enough damn side-scrollers on it as it is. They probably delayed it so they could shift development to their much needed 3D titles. You won’t hear me complaining. Tom Greene Smh :l Gordon Tillett Noooooooooooooooo! therealruben1 At least they didnt delay it for 6 months oontz yep, only 5 months. Whew. *wipes forehead* 00EpicGamer00 *4, not 5 😛 oontz It doesn’t come out on January 31st… I was rounding up!! 😉 00EpicGamer00 Umm, what? This month is October. It’s 4 months away until February of 2014. November (1), December (2), January (3), February (4.) oontz Yes… and after January 31st… it starts becoming more than 4 months. We don’t know exactly when in February it comes out. So it will be MORE THAN 4 months, right? Like I said I was rounding up. You do know what rounding up means right? 00EpicGamer00 You’re still not making any sense. How is after January more than 4 months? I don’t see the logic in that. Where’s the rounding coming from? Rounding doesn’t even apply to months. Only decimals. I guess you didn’t read my post correctly. January is the 3rd month, February is the 4th. Unless it’s delayed until March, it’s not 5 months away. Fine, if you’re one of those annoying, technical people, then it’s 4 months and 28 days. (There’s 28 days in february. And we don’t know what day in Feburary it’ll come out.) oontz “You’re still not making any sense. How is after January more than 4 months?” LOL… October to November = 1 Month November to December = 1 Month December to January = 1 Month January to February = 1 Month Any date after February 1st is MORE THAN 4 months. 🙂 So maybe 4 months and 5 days, or 4 months and 12 days… either way I was rounding up from 4 months. Regardless when it comes out in February it will be between 4 and 5 months. 00EpicGamer00 Thanks for proving my point that it’s 4 and not 5 months. Regardless of the days, it’s still 4 months, and 4 months only. The ONLY way it would be 5 months, is if it gets delayed another month. Which, I seriously doubt, it’s just a little side-scroller, it shouldn’t take TOO LONG. “Any date after February 1st is MORE THAN 4 months.” Umm, no. Any date after February 28th is more than 4 months (unless you’re counting days.) If you are counting days, then I guess technically it would be more than 4 months. 4 months and [insert number of days here.] But it would not be 5 months. oontz wow… you may want to recount that again. A month has a start and an end… October 1st to 31st = 1 month… the month of October. November 1st to 30th = 1 month… the month of November. December 1st to 31st = 1 month… the month of December. January 1st to 31st = 1 month… the month of January. WOW let’s add them up…. 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4 MONTHS Since the announcement was at the start of October you need to count that month as the first month in your equation. You don’t just start counting from November. Ganjabriel Del Campo Of course I am ! I was specting to have it in this year.!! CaesarGood Lie, lie, lie…bullshit over bullshit Deadpool U I personally see no reason to ccomplain about this all they want to do is make the game’s at it’s best and good enough to release. Alright they’re doing this for us not to us. HydePark1980 Rather no game than a bad one, a rule long forgotten by third parties as well as veteran gamers. Stephen Davis Does it ever end? Johnny Star Another nail in the inevitable coffin Nintendo is building for the Wii U! If they are unsure of release dates, how about don’t set one? This was going to be another Christmas gift, yet once again Nintendo fails. They need all the help they can get now, once Sony and Microsoft release their beasts, it will be bye bye Wii U. Heck Wii U may not be around come February, so they’d better profit while they can, lol. Ice Climbers I honestly don’t have a problem with this. Nintendo may have decided that the game would not sell as well due to the multitude of other platformers available on the system (Sonic Lost World, Rayman Legends, Super Mario 3D World, NSLU, NSMBU, and many indie games) as well as other games that would probably push DKC down the list of people’s priorities this holiday. devmiles never pinpoint on nintendo release dates, i don’t even read them or take them serious up till the very end it’s in stores Wiiluigi I’m really looking forward to this. Game delays suck. PatcherStation I bet Mario Kart and Tropical Freeze are completed games. No game released this year will push console sales, even Mario 3D World. There’s no point Nintendo pushing for console sales now. Going into 2014, Mario Kart and Tropical Freeze (more so Mario Kart) will push sales, but not by much. As for Bayonetta 2, due to low console sales, it’s dead in the water before launch. Being a Wii U exclusive, I can see it becoming a multi format game. And the latest Zelda HD game is a poor decision, more so for £40. No excuses, Nintendo. Mario Kart and Tropical Freeze should be out in 2013. Next, a new Zelda, a new Mario Galaxy, a new Wave Rave, a new Metroid, a new Pilotwings, plus loads more to go with it. 00EpicGamer00 I was mad at first, but then I realized Nintendo made the right choice. I’d rather have a game delayed and it be amazing, then to have it now and it be terrible. Most of you people really need to calm down. It’s just a game for crying out loud! Most of you act as if you’re going to literally die if you don’t get the game in two months. People…it’s not that long of a wait. It’s just 4 months away. Not that big of a deal 😛 “A delayed game is eventually good, but a bad game is bad forever.” -Shigeru Miyamoto iamserious I have no problem with this as I just bought the Wii U Wink Waker HD bundle and have a lot of catching up to do! Linskarmo I hope they’re gonna release a Metroid game in December now. 😉 But really, this is unfortunate. MujuraNoKamen I take the point about the need to take time with games and a late game is better then a buggy, unfinished mess but for crying out loud; this has been in development for years, it’s hardly cutting edge 2D platformer (nothing wrong with that) and they’ve had a large and very capable team making it! Now it’s going to be ANOTHER 4 MONTHS before its finished!? Either they’re adding something big – possibly but I have my doubts – or, Nintendo are pushing it back to fill out a sparse release schedule in 2014. I hope its the former as A: that would be good news, and B: If Nintendo haven’t sorted themselves out by next year then they’re fucked! I wouldn’t believe that’s possible but the bad news & delays haven’t let up this year and the mistakes made so far shouldn’t have happened (did they bot learn from 3DS launch? and I could have told them that jumping into HD would have more complex development) after the launch window, we were saying they’ll right it in a few months, E3 came with some good news and the Q3 – 4 lineup was pretty good but now its falling apart, and since it has become tradition to delay games then Kart and SSB will be delayed. I think Nintendo have already [partially] screwed themselves up, at E3 there was some great stuff but X, Kart and B2 are 2014 games, 3rd party games haven’t materialized, mature stuff and reviving old/making new IPs like Metroid has gone out of the window. This year there’s a handful of E-Rated games being released but delays are expected and with some good competition and a poor track record… well we’ll see.
