With less than a month now until we can get our hands on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, we’ve seen a wealth of new information about the game. We know that Rambi the Rhino will be returning for some of his rampaging fun, as well as the fact that the game runs in a native 720p while being upscaled to 1080p.

The video above shows off five of the songs currently available on the Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze website, so you can get a taste of the amazing music that awaits you once the game is available. What do you think of the music?

The music is always great in Nintendo games. I even love the music that the eShop has right now.

Bring out the dmts hits bro !!

    • justin476

True it has that nintendo flair to it.

    • val berger

the eshop music was one of the first really cool things I noticed with the WiiU =)

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

    This really is good. o.o

  • Enumerating Wishes

It’s nice in its own way. It doesn’t sound exactly like “video game” music but its very pleasing. For me it falls short of Donkey Kong Country 2’s OST so far.

    • Relick

Donkey Kong Country music never felt like video game music… and it is so good because of it.

      • Enumerating Wishes

The original Donkey Kong Country was more of an ambient soundtrack. Donkey Kong Country 2 is MUCH more “in your face” and orchestral-like, described as “gamey” by some people. DKC2 and DKC1 go in two different directions. Tropical Freeze adopts more after DKC1.

Not to forget the DKC2 OST has tunes that capture the embodiment of “evil” and sparks more adrenaline than any other Donkey Kong game ever released.

The first game will always be the best in my opinion hope this one brings back all those nostalgic feeling of my early teens

  • ChrisCamp

    It’s five songs.

  • crocodileman94

I love the final soundtrack. It even got a Krook’s March vibe to it.

  • TurokJr

The last one is like Metroid Prime meets Banjo Kazooie!! Amazing work

  • I’m going to love this game, I just know it! That, and I bet it’s going to raise some eyebrows!

    • justin476

I think it will as well. Retro once again showcases they are masters when it comes to graphics and gameplay and this game looks like a graphical tour de force. It looks incredible!

  • Squid

    Sounds fun.

  • Shy Guy

Wow this is some really relaxing chill music, did Nintendo get Phish to do the soundtrack or something?

    • Stephen

Retro got DAVID WISE to do the soundtrack. The genius behind all music that is good.

Don’t taint Wise with whatever the heck “Phish” is…
J/k I know what Phish is, but still, don’t taint David Wise’s name. 😀

  • Kyle

Nothing like good ol’ fantastic Nintendo music.

  • Diaz

Nothing will ever beat Hot Top Volcano’s music in Diddy Kong Racing.

  • darkcreap

Mmmm, the water level music. I remember it. Around minute 7. So fond memories from the original DKC on the SNES. My cousin had it and I played a little bit.

  • Skelterz

Im really looking forward to this game lol more so than i was before.

  • Andrew Gonzalez

    Nintendo’s music is always outstanding.

  • Skelterz

Sounds fucking solid it fits the scene and its just nice and tropical what more can you ask for, Also to note look at what company’s like rare and retro have done with DK An ip that was virtually dead before they resurrected it i hope nintendo finally realise that they have a gold mine of solid gold ip’s in there treasure trove dig em out.

    • david daniel wharton camacho

its the underwater theme for all donkey kong counrty games
i love it, it takes me waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back

    • Leo

Its the classic underwater theme from the original SNES DKC. Brilliant on every level.

  • Stephen

The man is a genius in every sense of the word.

I know, “Don’t give him all the credit.” A lot goes into making music, but he’s been there for some amazing games. DKC 1, 2, 3, Star Fox Adventures, now this. He’s doing something right.

Would love to meet him someday, but for now I’m just extremely glad there is more glorious music to listen to.

This is some of the best music in a Nintendo game I’ve ever heard, and that’s saying a lot, considering how many Nintendo games David Wise was involved with, and how good the Zelda, Metroid, and Star Fox music is.

P.S. For anyone not really liking this, skip ahead to about 7:00 and you’ll hear quite a few fantastic tracks.
I enjoyed the entire 12 minutes, though. Can’t wait for the game to come out so we can get the entire soundtrack!

  • Forbsz

This game is gonna be epic the original composer back, the rhino back, water levels back epic!

    • Leo

      minus Enguarde… ;(

      • Forbsz

Maybe they’ll still announce him 🙁

  • Sheiky Baby

Didn’t some of David’s tracks make it into Killer Instinct by accident? You can totally hear DK music in the original KI.

I think the music is so artistic and I’m glad nintendo uses this kind of music in their games, I could even play those tunes with my jazz band!!!
Thank U Ashley for still writing for this site and give accurate info. Not like the one below that just says that the game was at 720p not mentioning clearly about being upscaled to 1080p.

  • Leo

David Wise is a genius, i hope Nintendo will never let him go anymore!

  • Leo

Brilliant remix of the original DKC water soundtrack at 7:30!!!!!!

  • RockieOllie

    DKC > 2D Mario.

Dynamic levels and great music. there is no comparison!

  • val berger

As much as I loved DK Returns, as much as I usually love traditional Nintendo games, but with Tropical freeze, I just can’t really feel the excitement, a Nintendo game usually builds up before its release. Although this music really sounds very nice and 1080p are going to rip my eyeballs off, I still agree to those voices claiming that Nintendo should move on and try out new stuff instead of delivering a game that doesn’t really play too different than it did nearly 20 years ago. I know, I know, I’ve been through everything why they do it and why it’s cool that way over and over again and for the longest time, I’ve totally been one of those claiming everything is just perfect like it is, but now I just can’t hold on to this anymore, because it just isn’t. Like all of their games, even the HD remake of their 10yr old Zelda, I’m gonna buy, play and love this title despite all fears and worries, but still, wouldn’t it be great to get really surprised by Nintendo for once? Mario Kart 8 for instance looks awesome, but on the other hand it doesn’t really look like something I’ve never played before. And that’s what I am missing. with Pikmin 3 and SM3DW, Nintendo did a very good job on creating something very fresh, creative and still fitting into those franchises. for now, I don’t really see this happening with the upcoming 3 huge franchise games. They really do look like HD versions of their predecessors. maybe that’s good news to acquire Wii-gamers, I just can’t wait for the E3 to happen, to finally see something fresh. SOMETHING!

  • Lil J Moore

I just dropped a tear because this is just too amazing. David Wise excellent work as usual. Track 3 is my favorite

  • The_Last_Metroid

I love how they redid the coral capers theme from DC1!

  • C4

Needs more synth and sequencer-type sounds. It’s more like Diddy Kong Racing then DKC. The underwater stage song is great.

  • iamserious

    Last track is the best.
