It’s been a disappointing show from publisher Deep Silver when it comes to releasing their games on the Wii U. First it was confirmed that Dead Island: Riptide won’t be coming to the platform and then last week, Saint’s Row IV was confirmed to be skipping the Wii U as well. This left many people speculating that the engine for these respective games would need a significant overhaul in order to support the Wii U, but according to a Dead Island: Riptide spokesperson, that’s just not true. Techland International brand manager Blazej Krakowiak spoke to Digital Spy and confirmed that the game’s engine runs just fine on the Wii U.

Chrome Engine runs on Wii U without any problems. We tested and confirmed that long time ago, back in 2012.

While it’s true that Nintendo’s latest console would be a new platform for us, there were simply no plans to develop a Wii U version but that decision has nothing to do with a need to rewrite our engine.

Interestingly, Krakowiak confirms that the game’s release on Wii U rests solely on publisher Deep Silver’s shoulders and not on the game developers who’ve already put in the work to make sure the engine works. Hmm.

Hey guys sign and share this petition for SEGA to re-release the original Bayonetta on the Wii U eShop:

  • DK_Hadouken

It’s always the publishers. Get your frickin’ act together and support the Wii U, it will pay off. We’re thirsty damn it!

    • sithWiiU

      Take an econ class.

    • Shadriczo

      Amen to that bro.

  • Nintedward

lol , ofcourse wiiu can run ANY current gen engine…. that will never be the reason a certain game doesn’t come to wiiu , the reason is – the devs are pussies and don’t wana take a little gamble on a new and small installed base , rather play it safe with the legions of PS3 and 360 fanboys.

This problem should be done by the end of 2013 as the wiiu gets a base of about 8M+ users , we will get an influx of games mark my words 🙂

    • sithWiiU

They’re pussies? You’re a very arrogant person. If you owned a company, would you risk the money? Companies want a profit. They don’t care anout the consumers, it’s about the money. Take your Nintendrone glasses off & realize that’s how the world works.

      • DragonSilths

Without the fans “Consumers” a company has nothing including money anyway. Derp.

        • sithWiiU

derp yourself. That’s exactly why Nintendo is selling Wii U so poorly, the fans aren’t there, so why will developers WASTE money porting it to Wii U? Derp.

      • It’s the damn Publishers like EA that don’t want to release games on the WiiU…Do you think that for example CryTek didn’t invest money in the WiiU version of Crisis 3? (wich was already finished and ready for release)

        • jay

Fat ass says: “Not a fat chance”!!

          lol remember that?

      • WiiUltra

Umm… Have you seen, well I don’t know, um UBISOFT? They are not risking money? They don’t want a profit? They are supporting the Wii U unbelievably well. The other publishers are “pussies” according to Nintendward and that seems accurate enough.

      • jay

Ubisoft took a gamble on Wii and made the most profit ever.

        Your Logic= Level Stooopid

        • readypembroke

Yeah the Wii launch title, was a good shooter and Ubisoft some how modded Unreal 2.5 and made it work,

        • sithWiiU

Because when Zombie U released it went agaisnt what? A rehased Mario game, a game filled with minigames, & ports from other systems. Why do you think Ubisoft decided to release RL on all consoles? You Nintendrones really are a sad bunch.

        • greengecko007

No gamble at all. They ported their latest cash grab Assassin’s Creed Title, which wasn’t really risking anything. And they made a poorly made game with low dev costs with Zombi U. They also delayed Rayman to ensure better profit. I see no gambling.

      • audi lover

Your obviously a little child if you really think thats how the world works, its cause of ignorant twats like you that have caused misery for people the world over because you think greed and profiteering is how the world works, maybe for fat cats and twats but most people of this world have better thoughts

        • sithWiiU

Hahah! What world do you live in then? Are you mentally unstable? Also, it’s you’re, not your.

        • greengecko007

So you think that people should make games for Nintendo out of the goodness of their heart and not make money? LOOOOOOOOOOOL

          • ICHI

Some people like ubi and EA can afford to risk a bit of coin on a fledgling system to get fans invested in their products. Often in the first few months of a consoles life theyre filled with activision, EA and ubi games, where as these days the smaller companies now could go under with one big mistake. Deep silver are not big enough and have already paid out enough this year for saints row. Its one of the reasons i am not putting a lot of hope in ps4 or xbox 720, games will cost so much to produce we’ll see a lot of small devs go under after an average game and some will just become indy dev teams, their new games appearing on steam or wii u either way i win 🙂

    • DragonSilths

Actually its mostly publishers not the Devs who dont want to support Wii U. Plus abunch look at EA not supporting Wii U unfortunately.

  • RedChu

It’s quite annoying that publishers won’t support Nintendo platforms. I guess they don’t value their owners’ money as much as other platform gamers, or perhaps they just don’t feel that “core” gamers play on Nintendo platforms… which I suppose is true, because a lot of “core” gamers focus more on being able to count how many grains of sand is in a beach than they do than actual gameplay. If publishers actually supported Nintendo platforms, they wouldn’t have a problem selling their games regardless of any graphical differences there may be… as long as they aren’t turd versions like the Wii had.

  • Beau

Hey publishers: if you release games for the Wii U, we’ll buy them because we’re starving. I’m considering picking up what looks to be a mediocre game at best, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, just so I can have some more games to play on my Wii U!

If you release actual good games, we’ll buy them!

    • sithWiiU

Not everyone thinks like you, & the install base for Wii U is not high enough for them to take a risk. Unlike Wii, it would have been a jump, considering how much it sold the 1st half year. Wii U on the other hand would required a leap of faith. They don’t know if they’ll make a profit or a loss, & odds are, it’s leaning towards the former.

      • DragonSilths

        “No guts no glory.”

        “Go big or go home.”

        “No risk, no reward.”

Those 3 quotes work here. If devs want to not take a risk then fine they will never go any farther in the industry.

        • sithWiiU

Those aren’t releated to a bunsiess model. Sounds more like a sports thing. Devs don’t want to take those risks, money is what they want, money is what they wont get. It isn’t hard to understand, yet all of you act blind to it.

          • SO…. in other words nintendo has to pamper them like microsoft does?

          • By the way if im understanding right your business model is flawed. You talk about what nintendo fails to do to get people on board yet forget that the best business practice that ensures the most success is to meet the demand. Right now there is a demand for games in the platform, people are not clamoring mario and zelda as muxh as they are the content from third party devs. If they decided to suport the platform business would pick up overtime well enough. DOes nintendo need to advertise? perhaps… they haven’t been their best agree with that, but they have not been the worse. look back at the other 2 launches from microsoft, the wii U outsold those launches by millions. Sith if you are not a fan of nintendo leave, but if you are, even somewhat,m calm your senseless charade, for what it sounds to me you dont understand business yourself. Nintendo will do fine, they will learn from their mistakes, they can’t afford not to.

      • HydePark1980

This industry wasn’t built on “playing it safe”

        • jay

And everyone who “plays it safe” never succeeds. e.g. music industry, film industry etc.

          • sithWiiU

Ha! Yeah, that’s why bands like The National and WU LYF are so very popular huh?

          • jay

The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Elvis were the biggest risk takers in the industry. They are also the highest selling artists in HISTORY.

Pokemon wasn’t to be released in the US due to the difference in culture and lack of anime interests. Nintendo took the risk, and Pokemon took over the world.

          • greengecko007

Taylor Swift. whether you like her or not, always does break up songs because she knows that’s what sells. She is stupid rich for “playing it safe”

          • jay

Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Elvis Presley.

Taylor Swift just took the biggest risk in her entire career and it payed off. She went from country to pop and added dub step. The same risk Justin Timberlake took while JC decided to “play it safe”.

You don’t know shit about the music industry, I’m actually a part of it lol. And I love Taylor Swift, Pink, Linkin Park, Fun. and Eminem. Some of my favorite risk takers in the industry.

      • Wayne Beck

Sorry, but that is a load of crap. Everyone knows Nintendo always sells. There is no risk. The problem is Nintendo, until recently, refuses to pay for content. Microsoft and Sony pay developers 10s of millions of dollars up front for titles.

      • Low install base? How so? It sold more units in it’s first 4 months then the 360, PS3, PSP, and Vita

      • jay

        oh wiily :O

well guess what? The install base for the ps4 is 0. and it has support.

        Your Logic = Level Stupid!

        • Obs

The Wii U had 3rd party support before it launched as well did you not see the E3 press conference when they first revealed it?????

    • jay

dude just wait a month. The games are coming. Why do you guys gotta be playing games 24/7? Remember u still have the eShop, VC and Wii games…. sheesh!

  • GeDDeN

    • sithWiiU

they want a profit though, not a loss.

      • Coval83

more games, more buyers, more profit…

  • Bode

The truth is that these companies want profit without risk. If Nintendo WiiU was bursting into sales, all were smiling and presenting their games.

The blah blah blah them only indicates two things: a) are receiving money to boycott Nintendo. b) They are too conservative and afraid of innovation, preferring old gameplay with new graphics.

I think the two things may occur simultaneously. Not I doubt of practices unscrupulous of Microsoft (when I do not win, I’ll buy it) and not doubt that gaming companies, that supposedly should be inventive, can be mediocre. Sorry for the translation by Google! 🙂

    • Too many excuses adds up to BS!

      • Bode

Seriously? So enlighten me with your pearls of knowledge.

      • jay

yeah you’re right. Those who oppose Wii U have too many excuses!! Adds up to BS!!

    • jay

I know the truth. I dont care if you believe me or not but I know WHY %50 of publishers are hating on the king of gaming.

It’s a stupid reason really. I won’t say why because 1) Haters are gonna hate. They’ll call me a fraud. 2) “Hardcore gamers” are ignorant. Too ignorant to comprehend a thing. I mean they act like 12 year olds and call respectful, reserved mature gamers “Kids” or “virgins” for enjoying some Wii Fit yoga, or Wii Sports with their girlfriend.

      • greengecko007

“I know the truth but I’m not going to share my supernatural insight because yeah…” You’re comment in a nutshell.

  • D.M.T

Fuck all the publishers that dont want to support the Wii U. Why not? Because there aren’t enough Wii U owners out there? Well…that’s because there aren’t enough games for Wii U dumbass!!! Support the Wii U and you’ll see how many people will buy the system. Seriously fuck you.

This is why the Wii U isn’t more powerful than PS4 because no matter how powerful a Nintendo console is, publishers will still skip Nintendo consoles for stupid reasons. The GameCube was more powerful than PS2 but everyone ignored the GameCube so why bother making a powerhouse console? 3rd parties will still ignore it. Fuck you.

    • HydePark1980

Finally someone who sees the bigger picture here when it comes to Nintendo. Not as black and white as a lot of gamers make it out to be.

      • sithWiiU

Are you kidding me? You Nintendrones really need to take a busniess class. Are you all really that dense?

        • D.M.T

You can’t spell business so i dont think you took a business class. Here’s something i learned in Economy class: if you don’t take risks, you won’t be rewarded. The reason why Nintendo is still alive is because they take risks. Publishers are pussies for not wanting to take a risk with Nintendo and they wont make more money if they dont take risks.

        • HydePark1980

#1 Anybody who uses the term Nintendrones really shouldn’t question weather or not other gamers are dense.

#2 Any hustle on the street would tell you that one of the first rules of business is that when ever you are asked why you didn’t do something, you have to give a story behind it. There’s the part of the story you want the public to know and the part of the story you don’t want them to know.

    • NkoSekirei

not all but some publishers need to go fk a cactus if their gonna be bias to the wii u on support

    • Mario

You’re right. A lot of publishers are ignoring the WiiU’s full potential. Probably they think it’s kiddy stuff. Well guess what! In can be just as hardcore as the PS3 and Xbox 360. Just try ZombiU and AC3 idiots!

    • Coval83

    • boredgamer

i agree with you. ive been renting games that dont come to wii u and the publishers have saved me alot of money so far this year. although i would have liked to buy the games i wont cave and buy for other systems.

    • sithWiiU

This is a really sad comment, & the fact so many people support this arrogant comment really showcases how stupid people are. You’re all fanboys. How does it feel to be a slave to a corp that doesn’t give a crap about you?

      • D.M.T

A fanboy is calling us fanboys, that’s funny. How does it feel to hate a corp that doesnt even know you exist? How does it feel to waste hours of your life hating Nintendo fans even though we haven’t done anything to you?

    • Guest

All the publishers are complete barstards other than Ubisoft. I own a wii u and it is fucking awesome.

    • Julio

      Strongly agree with you man!

    • Teem Four Tress Too

As much as i feel your pain, I dont think nintendo needs 3rd party developers. Nintendo has their own videogames so i dont know why nintendo was so focused on 3rd party developers.

  • mchelski

seriously, the game does not seen to be that good, I can say the same for saint’s row, I would not buy it even if it came for wii u.

  • Mark Thom

  • RyuNoHadouken

I pre-ordered Lego City Undercover today after I went to Gamestop and realized it didnt come out until tomorrow…I had 10 bucks left in store credit, so I put it towards Dead Island Riptide for PS3…the store clerks agreed that it was crazy not to make this for Wii U, but I guess thats life.

  • I’m not sure that developers are looking at the lower install base in the right way. Sure, we have less people. But think of it this way; every other developer is looking at it the same way and not giving the Wii U a chance. Because of this, we barely have any games. And because we barely have any games, we’ll jump at any game that comes into our sights. The whole install base of starving gamers will jump at a full price game, even if it is only a port. This is something that you can’t find on the other systems right now, because the people who are on the fence know that there’ll be another game next month that they can save their money over for.
C’mon developers, take this chance. I’ll be your best friend if ya do.

  • I’m not all that dissapointed in the Deep Silver games not coming to Wii U, aside from the fact that it doesn’t help the Wii U and it’s reputation. Dead Island was a flop. Saints Row IV looks like the same dissapointment that Saints Row III was and will most likely be a flop. It won’t surprise me in the slightest if Dead Island: Riptide is a flop too.

  • lol…is anyone surpirsed that the thing runs on the WiiU!?

  • Elladan

Right now I should be sitting in the living room, holding a Wii U Gamepad and playing Tomb Raider. Well guess what, no Tomb Raider ’cause “insert random excuse”. It’s sad that instead of third party coming to the Wii U, third party is skipping because of a low fan base. Well, will a fan base grow if you don’t release good games. No, it won’t. I think I could say I could have been better off not spending my money on a wii u and upgrading my computer. Before “HARDCORE” nintendo fans start bitching about this post, let me tell you something. Because of you and your stupid motto: “Who the fuck needs third party when we’ve got Zelda and bloody Mario.” Well thank you “HARDCORE” fans for ruining third party support. Who will release games on a console where “everybody” cares about a few franchises and are extremely critic to any third party. Thanks for ruining the Wii U’s (although I would prefer the name Wii 2) medial face.

P.S. Thank you Ubisoft for actually caring about real gamers on the Wii U and forgetting about dumb nintendodrones.
P.P.S. Don’t bitch about how Zelda and Mario, etc… are really good games. They are, but I want to play other games also.

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

I agree with you…fanbase won’t come til games comes. I an fully supporting 3rd party support (not shovelware) on the Wii U as it makes it a better console. After all who wouldn’t want a machine that could play Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Pikmin as well as GTA 5, Tomb Raider, Destiny and Assassin’s Creed. We are getting decent third party support now but I could certainly do with more.

  • wober2

I wish that studios who do not want to pay for the effort would put the wiiu version on kickstarter and let us help vote with our monies.

    • jay

      That’s impossible under publisher contract.

      • wober2

Oh man I guess I wish it wouldn’t be. Although I can see if it is used too much publishers wont give us anything that we didn’t specifically pay for.

  • Desmond Lum

Well at least we could possibly get EA back with us, now that the previous CEO has resigned, and there is a new CEO who would possibly cooperate with Nintendo.

    • NkoSekirei

lets hope but i hardly doubt it cause their abunch of pansies that are so in love with their wallets then their gamer base

  • Damn developers and publishers are running for cover. Insane…

  • Nintendo is responsible. It was their responsibility to have compelling first party content ready DAY ONE to push early sales. Pikmin got pushed back, nsmbu is fun but is no system seller, and nintendoland is a decent collection of tech demos. To not have ONE system selling exclusive or first party game to spur early sales is squarely on Nintendo’s back. Early sales tell publishers, who are risking ENORMOUS sums of money, that it is a worthwhile investment.

    • jay

You’re misinformed. Publishers DO NOT like competing with Nintendo games. Nintendo smashes the competition and hurts 3rd party sales. 3rd parties mentioned this almost 10 years ago, one developer even went on to say “Nintendo is too good”. I say “Make better games then!!” and quit blaming Nintendo for your lack of creativity.

  • brian murphy

if there publishers wont publish them they should drop it on eshop if they want to save money with the price of making actual copies

  • dgallo911

Of course this game isnt coming to the Wii U. if it did ZombiU would never sell another copy and considering Ubisoft has been basically carrying the system since launch it would be a slap in the face for them.

    • Petri

Zombi U and dead island arent really comparable.
Only thing in common is the zombies.
Dead island is really just a 1st person hack and slash.

      • dgallo911

Dead Island is superior to ZombieU in every way possible. It might have more action etc but it has a far better atmosphere, is scarier/more intense and above all it has awesome online multiplayer. If Dead Island had been ported over to Wii U and featured all the gamepad features Zombie U has (and also fixed a couple of the bugs) it would have become the best Zombie game ever created and also have sold shit loads.

  • NintendoNoob

Why aren’t they supporting the Wii U? It’s retarded, they think it’s a kiddie console and just want to leave 1,000,000 bucks in peoples pockets? Retarded companies these days

  • John Andalora

The original Dead Island sucked. Why would I want to waste money on its sequel?

    • dgallo911

wow, to say that you must have been really, really shit at it lol

      • John Andalora

No. I just thought it was dull.
After I found a car, fighting zombies got far too easy.

  • readypembroke

The good part of the WiiU is that more hardcore games are showing up on it like Sniper Elite V2 and Sniper Ghost Warrior, but developers shoving off the WiiU is NOT cool! The WiiU has potential but most developers see it as a 2nd Wii and pretend it isn’t there.

  • disqus_33zt1o19e8

Who cares what console somebody plays on? What is the avg age of people on this thread? And if you aren’t a nintendo fan or play a WiiU why would you be here anyway? Just plain strange. I play a WiiU and 3dsxl for retro gaming, since i grew up on a Nes and Snes and 64, the new software is an added bonus.

  • Teem Four Tress Too

OK im not trying to piss off u guys here, but i think that nintendo should move on to their own francises. Why would nintendo take previous games and slap it to their consle?! Its just a waste of time and money. People have already played these games, so just puting them on the wii u wont do the same. Yes it might give u nintendo fans who hates xbox and ps3 a chance to play these games, but it isnt mario, or zelda. HEAR MY WORD PEOPLE!!
