Darksiders 2 was one of the very first games announced for the Wii U, and its developer, Vigil Games, was one of the first developers to openly praise the new console from Nintendo.

Now they share some more praise for the Wii U, saying that it’s “surprisingly easy” to develop for. Vigil Games’ Haydn Dalton said in a recent interview:

“Technically, it’s one of the easier platforms to develop for. We had our core game up and running on it in a very short amount of time.”

He added that the team had no major problems developing the Darksiders 2 Wii U version, and that it was “surprisingly easy” to port the game to the new console.

Vigil Games has always been supportive of the Wii U, with the exception of one former employee who went on to bash the console, calling it “idiotic”.

Darksiders 2 will be a Wii U launch title on November 18. You can check out some of the first Wii U details of the game and a few screenshots here.

This was 3 days AGO on another website

      I think the bottom line is;
      1) How good the game is?
Answer: Everyone has said its great, and I played 2 levels on PS3 and it was really cool.
      2) How great the game plays on the WiiU?
Answer: I pre-ordered it and can’t wait to play it on the WiiU.

    • AKA-Link77

Your name doesnt really make sense. . .

      • dr. spank

        oh, sure it does ^^

      • SH*TBLOCK

I made a video about my name, talked about it on the forums, etc. My name is a homage to my father. When I was a kid playing videos games my dad would come in and say, ” Why you sitting there playing games all day looking like a block of sh@t, get off the thing and go do homework!” Then he would get on the Atari 5200 or NES and play them the rest of the night sometimes.

I thought when deciding a name for gaming that SH*TBLOCK would be perfect, and who else would call them self that, hahahaha…that has been my name for over ten years now.

here is the link to that vid and it is at 1:55 when I talk about my name; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WOhh-0hwA8&feature=plcp

      • Nko Sekirei

        like ur s douche

    • Wii U.F.O

Looking forward to this along with fifa ac3 and maybe mh3

    • LazerK

Actually,I remember something like this being said about a MONTH ago

  • Shankovich

It’s easy, it’s hard, it’s ok. Eugh, I wish some devs would man up and try the way Vigil and Capcom do, aside from others.

It’s nice to see a proven dev praise the Wii U like this 🙂

    • BubbleMan v2

Depends completely on the skill of the developers. Good developers will be able to move forward with the technology, while bad developers will stink at trying to make anything.

  • Gamechemist8

Nintendo is awesome, making a lightweight, innovative, and easily compatible system for the next gen. Plus they price their stuff near-perfectly.

  • Phases

Looking forward to this one for sure. Since they had such an easy time getting the core of the game going, perhaps there will be some unplanned surprises too 🙂

So this could mean more Wii U games could be ported over, right?

      i think so

    • Cugno the Swiss

      NI NO KUNI!!!

    • Non-Specific Action Figure

      I hopes so, Right Peoples?

  • Name

Of course nintendo used its skill to make the perfect console like a boss

  • theBALLANCEDopinion

Well that’s always good to hear. 😉

  • NintendoWizard87

Lets hope the other third parties have the same experience! If so we should be looking at getting most of the major multi platform games over the next year at the very least!

    • Cugno the Swiss

I definitely hope so, even if at the moment I’m not very confident. Ubisoft made a good job giving Nintendo a chance, and Activision is bringing its stuff aswell. But EA? They’re just porting ME3 to see if the Nintendo fanbase buys it… How can the Nintendo fanbase buy the third episode of a game they never played before? This will make EA think that the Wii U isn’t a platform for hardcore gamers, but it really isn’t our fault, they should have released the damn trilogy instead of the third title alone, I seriously don’t understand what’s so difficult in marketing logics.
Hideo Baba of Namco Bandai said they aren’t planning to bring the Tales series (Japanese RPGs) to the Wii U, because the controller looks uncomfortable, which is just idiotic. The Wii U has a pro controller that lasts up to 80 hours, isn’t that comfortable? Namco Bandai is stubbing itself, Nintendo is one of their biggest source of income in Japan, why are they neglecting it?
Meh, I don’t know… The Wii U is a great console. and Nintendo is a great company that has been in the business for quite a lot now, but I think neither of the two is the problem. Developers take for granted that Nintendo players are not interested in their products, but everything they need is advertisement. Namco now thinks that Nintendo home consoles aren’t a place for RPGs, because Tales of Symphonia 2 didn’t sell well. Why did Xenoblade sold this much then? The problem isn’t with RPGs, the problem is with Symphonia: Dawn of the new World: it sucked.
So yeah, Nintendo did everything they could so far, now it’s up to the developers to take the chance, something that Ubisoft and Activision did, but not many others.

      • Blowtar

How can you assume that when they bring MW3 to the Wii U that none of the Nintendo fans have not played any of the previous games? You are totally 100% unbelievably wrong lol.

Most gamers have more than a Wii such as PS3, XBOX 360 and PC, or play with their friends consoles. And why would they bring previous Call of Duty games out on it? A majority of people go-over to the new Call of Duty when its released leaving a smaller fan-base for that specific title, so it makes sense to bring the new Call of Duty out on the Wii U to prove it can play these triple A titles effectively, especially with its included touch-pad features.

        • Bilbo Baggins

ME3 stands for Mass Effect 3, not Modern Warfare 3.

  • Ryu No Hadouken

nice…hopefully, comments like this will encourage hesitant developers to go ahead and bring new titles to the wii u

  • NintendoMan :D

Wii u idiotic? Only an idiot would think that.

  • Disciplelicious

Good to hear! I want to develop for it…but I have no education or experience…think they’ll make a game programming game for it like on the 3DS?

    • frank (3dsFC=5155-3120-0417)

Its not exactly for the 3DS, but the eShop has the DSiWare “Petit Computer” which allows you to program for the DSi/3DS using a version of BASIC (which is easy to learn and use), but these games are still restricted to the application, and can’t be exported or anything like that. I’m sure by now someone else has said this though…

  • BLACK OPS 2?

if its east then that could be bad news

  • Vaughn Chung

Looks wonderful! Happy I didn’t pick this up for my 360 and instead getting it for Wii U 🙂

  • RoboticLink

Cool. Easy to develop for. That means more 3rd party games. Hear that Bethesda! What about you Rockstar?

By the way, who finds that guy bashing Wii U is a total reject.

    • Marq

I hate to be the downer, but this actually means little in reality. I remember all kinds of reports of how easy developing for the GameCube was, especially in relation to the tough to crack PS2, but we all know how that generation turned out. There are a few games here and there that go to a specific console because the devs have an easier time with it, but everything is still largely based on what will generate the most sales. Still though, streamlining the development process for third party devs is only a good thing.

      • gearchin

the only reason, Gamecube didnt really get any games, that gen was the DISC size.

  • rp17

    Bring on the 3rd parties!

  • frank (3dsFC=5155-3120-0417)

So does that mean we are more likely to get “exclusive” titles if it is so easy to port the games? And does this mean easy to port to or easy to build from the ground up as well?

  • jcb411abuser

don’t care, can’t chat to me mates on wii u if i’m not in the same game, don’t care, don’t care, don’t care anymore…………..

    • NintendoWizard87

Short sighted aren’t you? All consoles have bad points, there’s never a perfect, flawless console with ALL the features. Some give way to others. It’s just the way it goes. The other awesome features of the Wii U far outweigh the few that are missing. Also if you don’t care, why bother to post?

      • jcb411abuser

ahem, the point is i don’t care how many devs say that the wii u is easy to develop for, how many times has this same topic been brought up by wiiudaily. i’m not a developer, i don’t care how easy it is to develop for. what would be more important is for wiiudaily to highlight what is going on with the chat function on the wiiu, and if it is as bad as having no system wide chat function then maybe they should(TRY) contact some nintendo rep and inform them of public reaction to such a disastrous omission of one of the fundamental elements of gaming in the 21st century. seriously all nintendo ahd to do was copy xbox live, that’s all they had to do.

    • Kav

That is not a problem, you and your friends will be playing CoD all the time anyway…

      • 007 1/2

        This guy has friends?

    • Chris

So why are you on this website?

We don’t care about you or your mates.

      • jcb411abuser

what about you and your mates?? i do care about the system, i don’t however care how easy it is to develop for, this has been pointed out numerous times and i don’t think another developer confirming that point is news worthy.

back to the chat system though, have you ever played xbox, one of the key points of xbox lives popularity was the chat function, i could play any game and talk to my friends at the same time whilst they played any game they wanted, now that doesn’t seem to be possible anymore, i find it ridiculous to omit this when it’s such a key function, it would take zero thinking on nintendos part they would just copy microsoft’s chat.

    • Wii U is next gen

@jcb411abuser Ok we see you don’t care then why comment if you really don’t care?….just saying

    • Nko Sekirei

if u dont care anymore go throw ur self into the trash were trolls belong

  • 7upland

wow no comments here and what’s darksiders?

    • Nko Sekirei

  • Trev

I Sooo want this game it looks awesome, maybe thy will release the first darksiders on the eshop

  • The Detonator

great news! cant wait til november!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • NintendoMan :D

Except from Pachter. He hates Wii U. Just stating facts

  • BloopbopBeepbop

Good news to here. hopefully other devs feel the same way.

  • Lord Carlisle

Gee, this is the FIRST news regarding Darksiders I’ve seen in a while.

  • retro gamer

Nice, hopefully other game developers come forward with the same statement. Its only looking positive for Wii U now.

  • 007 1/2

    im glad more games

  • theorangefish

We already knew that longer than a year.

  • Blakenator

It’s always good to have more people saying great things about the Wii U! 🙂

  • TheUNation

The more I read from developers saying great things about the Wii U, the better chance for everyone (including myself) will be getting Nintendo’s new generation console.

  • Alex

I don’t get it if its too easy to port this game to Nintendo WiiU, then how come companies don’t put it on full HD with 60 fps.

    • Kevin White

Because one doesn’t really have a whole lot to do with the other.

    • NoPUNintendo

One does not simply put textures at a high resolution.

  • Gamer

    Here we go! hehehehehe

  • Nintendo is my life

Loving everything i here about the wii u

  • tttttttttt

  • RoboticLink

Strange, it’s been like an hour since I posted a comment and it still says it’s awaiting moderation. Everything okay Wii U daily?

  • Ash

I forgot about this game! :O how’d that happen? But that’s good to hear

  • ceramicsaturn

The fired employee is just butt hurt because his unemployed ass can’t afford the system now.

  • Howdy

Solid game, I only played through about half of it on the 360 because of time constraints, but it was fun. I might buy it on the Wii U to help start my Wii U collection alongside ZombiU and Black Ops 2.

  • Blobbyx4

The next ps4/720 can only get harder to develop for, so go wii u third party support

    • Kevin White

That’s silly. You have no way of knowing how development tools or hardware architecture will be on either machine. And you have no way of knowing whether that will render them easier or more difficult to program for than Wii U or the PS3/360

      • nintendoy

Have you not noticed that games have taken longer to develop in the ps3 /Xbox 360 generation? Its common sense. Wii U is virtually guaranteed to be easier to develop for than forthcoming Sony and Microsoft machines!

        • Kevin White

Makes about zero sense. Tell me, what is it about PS3/360 that leads to lengthier development time that the Wii U somehow circumvents? Of course games are taking LONGER to develop — the added power, memory, expectations, evolutions in gameplay, etc. mean more content has to be created. Tell me how Wii U, ostensibly more powerful than PS3/360, somehow quickens this process.

That’s different than saying the architecture and dev tools are easier to work with. Wii U seems to be pretty good to work with from a tools and architecture perspective. Tell me how PS4/720, with virtually nothing known about their hardware architecture or dev tools, somehow will be “virtually guaranteed” to be harder to develop for than Wii U.

What this developer is really saying should be taken in the context of a PORT to a NEW SYSTEM. It’s simply a statement that getting the existing engine (and existing content!!) running on the new hardware and dev environment was surprisingly smooth FOR A NEW SYSTEM. It does not logically follow from anything said that PS4/720 will “only get harder to develop for.” Wii U is not a magic unicorn.

        • gearchin

          dont forget more expensive.

  • Wii U is next gen

I want this game …who else is getting this

      Insomniac or magician ?

      • RoboticLink

Haha! Probably insomniac, but maybe he has a preschooler’s brain when it comes to math or has fingers the size of bananas so he can’t type properly.

        • frank (3dsFC=5155-3120-0417)

Considering we JUST crossed into the <1 month window, its probably the banana fingers.

          • Nintenlord

It depends how many times he go to sleep for some ppl it will take 50 times of sleep lol 😉

never ever heard of darksiders. Must be really bad game.

    • NintendoGamer

This is what it happens when you are a Nintendo loyalist. You don’t know a damn thing about awesome PS3, 360 and pC games and you end up looking a joke.

    • NoPUNintendo

You must have never watched TV, or browse the internet.

  • NintendoGamer

The game kicks a$$ on PS3. Can’t wait to pick this version.

  • Wii U is next gen

@nintendodoododo Then don’t buy it…plain and simple and go troll somewhere else thanks
