The original Crysis was hailed as one of the most technically beautiful games ever, and still to this date can bring powerful PCs to their knees. Crysis 2 didn’t push the envelope that much, but developers at Crytek are looking to change that with the upcoming Crysis 3. However, the developers ruled out a Crysis 3 Wii U version earlier this year. That has changed now, apparently. Now Crytek producer Mike Read says that they’re working with Nintendo and that a Crysis 3 Wii U version is possible. In an interview with CVG, Read said that Crytek “cannot take the current generation of consoles any further”, and also said about the upcoming Wii U: “There has really been no official releases associated with the Wii U yet, and given that we’re releasing Crysis in an eight month time period in February of 2013, we can’t play off of what their schedules are. I wouldn’t rule it [Crysis 3 on Wii U] out, but you know, it is a possibility.” Crytek have already ported the CryEngine 3 to the Wii U, and there’s already a Wii U game in development that’s based on the engine. However, that game isn’t Crysis 3, at least not officially. Crytek so far only supports the Wii U with its engine technology, not games. Officially speaking, of course. Getting a high profile title such as Crysis 3 on the Wii U would be good for the console in the long run, showing other developers/publishers that the hardware is suited for visually stunning, core games. Take it for what it is: Crytek is impressed with the Wii U, but Nintendo and other developers don’t seem ready to talk about games that are launching outside the launch window. Aliens Colonial Marines is the exception as it was originally expected to be out Q4 2012, but it has been pushed back to Q1 2013. I think we’ll see some more Q4 2012 games officially announced soon for the Wii U, but a lot of companies are watching and waiting to see if they have any plans for 2013 and beyond. I think we’ll see a nice trickle of game announcements once Nintendo solidifies the Wii U release price and date. Matthewmc685 I know in terms of CryEngine 3 wanting more power the Wii U is a good choice however it they just want to make some money they will make it so it only raise the bar as much as Crisis 2 and clone it to the Wii U and make all gamers of all platforms unhappy with the new CryEngine. Looking at both sides I can see why they find it a bit risky to make it for Wii U and then water it down for other platforms. (Even know I would be like “How do you like it?” to the people that said the same thing to the Wii) I think most companies are wanting to see it the Wii U will be a hit or not before deciding because even know the Wii was so big people where not buying as many games. I think the Wii U will work even know there are lots of haters because a lot of people hated the Wii and it almost out sold the 360 and PS3 combined! ck1x This would probably be the best looking WiiU title in 2013 if so! The way he was speaking though, it sounds like they will probably be making an announcement soon enough and EA is probably most likely publishing the game or Nintendo themselves… Dmonkeyman I just don’t think they’re going to make wii u version gPadWatcher Never say never. There’s always hope for a Crysis 3 game for the Wii U. SuperShyGuy I am just happy to hear they are working with Nintendo period. The more third parties the better Steve Jobs Really Good! Ryu This. Needs. To. Be. On. Wii U! Gamer Crytek are about to 1up EPIC. Imagine if Crytek provide Retro studios with technical and graphical liaison on the making of the next Metroid. Calling it Metroid 4, the next chronicles. CryEngine 3 in totality seems a more adept engine than Unreal 4. EPIC wake up before you are left in the dust this generation. gearchin I would love for metroid to be cryengine3 but it will all depend on Nintendo, UE4 metroid would be just as EPIC 😛 Gamer Things keep on getting better for the Wii U, next thing you will here is that Square-Enix are bringing their Luminous Engine to the Wii U, with final fantasy XV done right ala final fantasy VII, VIII and X. Real feeling am getting is that not only are third party developers going to be battling for who is the major player on the Wii U; also second parties shall be battling, indies, lastly Engine makers are going neck to neck :). gearchin wasnt EA and valve reaching out to nintendo about digital exclusivity? I truly wish and hope NINtendo went or goes with STEAM, Origin is total garbage. If the rumor is true. dudes09880 Please bring it and all we need now is far cry 3 and watchdogs on the wii u. Then im satisfied for now 🙂 AwayToHit Im sure we will have Crysis 3 on Wii U before Summer 2013 😉 Nintengoth I so hope Crytek brings this to the WiiU, i dont want it coming out after it hits other consoles thats pointless as i would buy it for my 360 *saaad panda* i am a huge Crysis fan and i love the games hat EA brings out, i must be one of the very few people in the world who actually like EA lol Shankovich said that Crytek “cannot take the current generation of consoles any further…” And “…Crytek so far only supports the Wii U with its engine technology, not games.” Right, so can all the haters just shut up now?? Is this enough to tell you that the Wii U hardware is truly next gen??? Because if news from Crytek isn’t enough I just give up -_- gPadWatcher I hope that Crysis 3 is coming to the Wii U… not to mention the fact of seeing a title running on CryEngine 3. The first one was a huge hit, the second one was OK (except the most epic theme composed by Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe). I have a feeling that the third one will be a video game console blockbuster that will make Epic Games and Square/Enix’s graphic engines green with envy. Nick Watt It’s like developers are all in the closet and are afraid to come out and say “I’m developing for Nintendo” out of fear what the backlash might be. Hi8us Too many companies are waiting to see how the Wii U will do before starting development. A lot of devs jumped on the Wii bandwagon late after seeing how well the Wii sold and their games didn’t sell because of it. It’s always a smart strategy to bet on nintendo early and get your games out for the launch of their systems if you want them to sell. Ultimate Cheez This game would be sick. SanPharaoh I think the Wii U is going to be the best thing to happen to video gaming…since the SNES. My hope is that the Wii U will not only “keep up” with the PX460, but really go toe-to-toe with them…assuming they will copy Nintendo’s new controller and push the graphics further. marioravesto3d I believe the wii u will be up there with the snes if not better.I love my ps3 especially 3d gaming but what have seen so far I will find it hard to leave the wii u alone especially with that controller.pre ordered already. Ilias Let’s go Nintendo !!!
