There has been some back and forth over the past few months regarding developer Crytek and its upcoming first person shooter Crysis 3. There have been some conflicting statements coming out of Crytek, some suggesting that there isn’t a Crysis 3 Wii U version in development, while others reported more optimistic news. Now however, it appears that this has been settled once and for all, as Crytek General Manager Nick Button-Brown revealed via Twitter. He said,

Just to answer the speculation, we are not currently working on a Wii U version of Crysis 3.

That should settle it. At least for now. Last time we heard from Crytek was when producer Mike Reid said he wouldn’t rule out a Crysis 3 Wii U version, despite the game being scheduled for release early next year. That’s not to say Crytek doesn’t support Nintendo’s new console — the sophisticated CryEngine 3 has been successfully ported to the Wii U and there is already at least one game that’s in development for the Wii U with CryEngine 3.

Crysis 3 Wii U
Technically, Crysis 3 would be very possible on the Wii U, as it will be released on current gen consoles and PC. The Wii U is easily more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This could mean that the reason we’re not seeing Crysis 3 on the Wii U is not a technical reason, but perhaps related to the business side of things.

  • Mida

There’s a boat load of FPS flooding the library anyways. Metroid is one of those rare jewels though

    • LazerK

I wouldn’t put Metroid in the same light as the fps we see nowadays. Its more like an adventure/exploring game(a bit like Zelda)to me(if you exclude the Prime series,of course)

    • loko

      Wii-U = babyfuck
      iwata = poor fucking

      • loko

crisis fit 😀 o paper crisis 🙂 cooking crisis LOL!!

crisis and the world of fairies 🙂

        walking with crisis tender love.

        Fuck you with nintendo

  • Captain Falcon

    Eh, I’ll respect that.

  • Roy

I would like to see this game for Wii U though….

    • loko

ohh yeahh!! crisis mama 🙂 o crisis chef 🙂

  • Lolwat

You made the title sound like Crysis 3 was never gonna be on the Wii U, when all that was said was that a Wii U version of Crysis 3 was currently not in development. Pretty misleading. Not to sound like a dick or anything though.

  • Smurfman256

  • Eric

They just want incentive ($$$), that’s all. Without their engine nintendo can whip up masterpieces anyways.

    • XDLugia

Don’t get cocky. Nintendo may be the best, but there are other great games out there which really would help Nintendo. They cannot do everything by themselves.

  • Shankovich

Expected. They’re not going to start porting to a new console at the ending stages of development, maybe after.

  • pach

And nothing of value was lost.

    • Enigmatic

  • Mid-core Gamer

If Crysis 3 ever comes to the Wii U I hope it comes out with Crysis and Crysis 2 as a collection (for the Wii U).

  • Dmonkeyman

He says crytek is not making one its possibly that they have given the rights to a wii u version to another company or they’ll see how the console and the shooter games that are on it sell and if like it they’ll anounce a port with some new controlls and or game modes and release it with in 6 months

    • Alienfish

      Gripping at straws are we?

    • Neonridr

Totally agree. Look at Batman Arkham City. WB Montreal handled the port, not Rocksteady. Besides, he said that it’s not currently in development, not that it’s never coming out. Look at Bioshock, same scenario could apply here.

  • ninjabake

As Mira said, we already have a ton of FPS games this Gen wii u is ushering in a new generation n I think its time for this “shooters or else” fad to end. Maybe a different genre can come to the forefront, or maybe it could be like the PS2/GC/XBOX era n be very balanced n diverse. Idk bit I certainly hope these devs make different kinda games I’m bored of the generic shooter. That being said Crysis is one of those unique fun non-linear shooters that are a blast playing so while its a shame the wii u couldn’t get it, I’m confident the wii u will get many other great titles.

    • Lolwat

THEY NEVER SAID THE WII U WON’T GET IT. Sorry, but the title is really being misleading right now. They never said Crysis 3 won’t be on Wii U, they simply said they CURRENTLY weren’t working on a Wii U Version. Keyword: Currently. They’re probably too focused for other current consoles and then will look at putting it on Wii U later. They never said at all it won’t be on Wii U.

  • Enigmatic

Oh well, isn’t a problem for me, and the 130 million other people that made the decision to buy a PS3/360.

    • Alienfish

Keep in mind half of the Xbox 360’s were bought by the same people after they got the red ring of death.

    • Ohh Dee Bee

You mean 80 million. 50 Million are people who had to rebuy 360’s after they burnt out, caught their house on fire, exploded, murdered kittens, etc…

    • Marmor

Should be endurable on the old consoles. Only good playable and enjoyable on a PC anyway.

But Crytek know how to use the power of DX11 so a Wii U version could really stand apart with all those deph of field effects, tesselation etc.

    • gPadWatcher

      XBox 360: 67.5 million
      PS3: 65.5 million
      Wii: 96.1 million

  • SoWhat

Doesn’t matter matter I am a PC gamer!

Although to bad that Nintendo is to dumb to accept that now a days power is everything.

    • D2K

I guess that is why every single console from the 1970’s until now that has won a console war was either weaker than it’s competitors or the weakest of the bunch.

      Atari 2600

All weaker or weakest of the gen.

      Master System

All most powerful of their gens and epic losers.

Even in the handheld market the weakest console always wins. GameBoy beat Game Gear. Game Boy Advance beat NEO-GEO Pocket. Nintendo DS beat the PSP, and the 3DS is beating the PSVita.

When it comes to console gaming, innovation is everything. Whether you believe or accept it is irrelevant. The facts prove other wise. Companies are starting to listen to fanboys whom have no clue as how to forecast the success of a console rather than look at history and hard data.

      • icanseeu

        Xbox sold more then Gamecube

        • No Matter who ia am…

Just Saying that xbox sell more than gamecube, but microsoft used
a lot of money in xbox merchandising, and losed money.

ps: Sorry for my english, i’m Brasilian.

          • Wii Uoops sucks

            ‘-‘ I like your point.

      • deSSy2724

        U “pwned” him xD

      • XDLugia

The SNES and NES were more powerful than their competition (mainly Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and Sega Master System) and they still won.

      • nucima

Yeah, but you can bring up your statement now, when the WiiU got more power than its actual competitors PS3, 360 –> epic loose for it.
Or one year later, against the successors which will probably be much more powerful –> epic win for it.
        Choose your preferred development.

I say, its all about a mix of image, price, design, games and power. The little more power it know got doesn’t matter. The wii could just win because of its greatness beeing a family/kids-gift. I use it almost only as a party 4-Player console (Double Dash, Wii Sports, XIII, Mario Brothers, Raving Rabbids, MotoHeroz).
Can count the “must have” titles just with my 10 fingers. Thats sad.

  • TheBoldman67

@SoWhat, one of these days Graphics will be so good that there won’t be a way to improve it, and then it will about controls and inovation, and Nintendo is already ahead of the game in that catagory. And btw, the Wii U is more powerful than any other console in case you haven’t noticed. Plus you said matter twice. 😉

    • Enigmatic

The Wii U is in now way stronger than the PC, and is barely stronger than the current gen PS3/360. Innovation you say? Motion control was a fad, that is and always was inferior to a traditional controller for hardcore gaming. I don’t see this tablet controller being much more innovative.

It won’t be many, many years until graphics have hit the point where they are maxed out. Right now, we are talking about the here and now.

      • Collected

You like to straw man don’t you, the Wii U when it first releases will either match or go beyond the graphical ability set by the PS3/Xbox360 at the moment and like those consoles will improve graphically and do more as it ages and people work with more software.

Motion control as a fad? No, it was innovative and offered people(gamers both hardcore and casual) a new way to play games. Like when other companies offered peripherals (such as Kinect and PSMove) they experienced an increases to sales because people had a new way to play games. Nintendo sold more units than Microsoft and Sony in this console generation because they had: the wiimote, +nunchuk, gamecube controller, classic controller, and others like the balance board.

Likewise they have a new peripheral, the GamePad which brings together traditional controller elements and provides innovation in the form of a touchscreen that is integrated into gaming. The Wii U also supports Wiimotes, +nunchuks and a new classic controller. Like you noted with the graphics race, the gameplay race is far from other and there is no perfect way or controller out on the market, hence there can always be room for improvement/innovation.

      • Draco Breach

“The Wii U is in now way stronger than the PC…”

Really? You’re going to lead with that?

The PC I built in late-2006 is more powerful than anything Sony or Microsoft will hobble together for the eighth generation. All told, the mobo, CPU, GPU, and RAM retail used for around $400 US. They go for $600~800 US new, and that doesn’t even include the PSU, HDD, or DVD/BRD.

That’s a pretty low-end gaming PC for today, too. I can guarantee it blows the Wii U and next PlayStation and Xbox out of the water, or those consoles will price themselves out of the market. I’ll stipulate unless they wait 3~4 years which will push them out of the eight generation race altogether.

I’ll stop now before my temper shows. I don’t feel like explaining how the world works right now.

      • PKUltima

If it isn’t innovative, it will at least be convenient for maps, inventories etc. For me this is innovative because I won’t be taken out of the game as often to equip an item. But that’s just me.

      • gPadWatcher

It’s because, Enigmatic, you have no experience in using the Wii U Game Pad. A lot of people have enjoyed playing with the Wii U Game Pad especially the top games that were displayed at E3, Comic Con ’12, and the Wii U Experience tour.

Assassin’s Creed III is just one of the prime examples. If you want to check the inventory or switch weapons in real-time, you use the touch screen of the Game Pad without pausing the game. The very same (but different) method will be used in FPS titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online.

      • TACOMAN

Stop hating and get out of here.

      • Britton

He said it’s the most powerful console. He never mentioned PC’s. Motion contols are becoming a standard for all electronic devices and console controllers. Only an idiot would call it a fad. The GamePad is innovative even if people like you lack vision. You also said it is “barely” more powerful than the current gen consoles. Have you personally played the Wii U? Are the full specs revealed? No? Then shut up. 🙂

      • TheBoldman67

PC insn’t a console dumb ass.

      • TheBoldman67

And btw I think I speak for everybody when I say graphics don’t make the game.

  • Shadriczo

If there’s still a chance that this game may be able to react and to be released on the wii u game, this game will be able to boost sales by at least 22 to 36%. I am not trying to start a fight with anyone or with all the gaming fan boys out there, but if anyone wants to start a war, they have to take it somewhere else, causes is really getting old, and it is really getting selfish. I really think that this should not go to waste and that these people would cease this foolishness once and for all because this is going on for approximately 10 years now.

I hope that all of you would see someday that this would not get out of hand with more pro hard-core gamers who are really seeking to get a better gaming system, either it’s a PC or handheld or a console, or even trying to seek better graphics. But for some people, it’s not just the graphics that counts, it’s mostly the gameplay because the gameplay is the only thing that makes our gaming style a bit more experience. So please, let’s try to end this war, causes is getting really old and I’m sick and tired of this. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • Paul

he said that there might be a wii u version coming but wont be developed by crytek but someone else for example modern warfare 3 was developed by infinity ward and sledge hammer games for ps3, xbox 360 and pc and treyarch developed the wii version

never really liked crysis 2 as was a mess but im hoping for homefront 2 on wii u as that would be sweet

  • D2K

Pretty stupid move on their part. Not a big loss to Nintendo. That’ll just make room for someone else. I don’t see why you tout the systems power yet you don’t bring your flagship franchise to a console launch.

Granted developers have stated how easily and cheap it is to port over games to the Wii U so maybe it is a financial issue with Crytek. I don’t know.

    • Paul

they said that it may come to the wii u but wont be from the developers that are doing the ps3 and xbox 360 version

    • alex

The true is that third parties dont trust nintendo fan they see nintendo consoles as a kid console am with nintendo but nintendo need to shake there kid image i love mario and i will buy mario games untill the day i died but nintendo need to show more…if nintendo let retro to clme up wkth a M game that will show others that nintendo is for every one i have mario but also i have this…if you go to ign you will see that now ea is wating too first they was all about the wii u but after this e3 and the reaction of fans now ea say that they want to wait and see for now we only going to get ports and sport games for ea

  • Bravyoura

Did crytek say “The Wii U is easily more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360” or is that just John Kinsleys completly impartial none biased opinion. I love the way everyone takes these articles as gospel when a majority are just one sided opinion:)

  • Draco Breach

    Warning! Warning! Captain Obvious posting!

As others have stated, Crytek did not announce there would be no Wii U version. I could care less for Crysis. The games are not to my taste. However, I do not like seeing words placed in other people’s mouths.

They said at this time they are not developing a Wii U version. This could mean one of several things.

    1) They are weighing their options and watching sales of Wii U and similar games before sinking money into a port.
    2) They are so far along in development that it will simply be easier and far less expensive to port and add functionality and higher-resolution texture packs later.
    3) They are still under NDA not to discuss post-launch titles.
    4) They’re inboxes are full, and they are using PR to tell people civilly to let them work.

Crytek likes the Wii U. They’ve said so. They’ve also said, time and again, that while Crysis is possible on the Wii U, they simply are not ready to make any yay or nay announcement yet.

    • quirkky

Yeah, that’s right. I like your thinking.

  • ODB

    This is a crisis!

  • gPadWatcher

At least Crytek is working with Nintendo so I’m not surprised that they’re not working in Crysis 3 for the Wii U just yet. For now, I wonder what game Nintendo and Crytek are working on for the Wii U? With the power of the Wii U and CryEngine 3, I’m sure we’ll be in for an epic surprise.

  • jameslobo

no crisis 3 lol who gives a shit , when we have aliens-colonial-marines

  • Ilias

    Bad news !

  • Gamer

If it comes later then I will get it. That way it shall have all DLC and will be cheap as dirt, Batman Arkham city anyone? We are getting more games than we can even buy so pushing it back is great news for us all.
