One of the things that has plagued the Wii U release of Black Ops 2 is the fact that there are no dedicated servers. Matchmaking is done by relying on local hosts and shoddy internet connections, which can lead to a frustrating time playing the game online. It looks like executive producer Mark Rubin wants to clear that up for users, as he revealed on Twitter that all platforms will have dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Ghosts. Previously it was rumored that the Xbox One version of the game would be the only one with dedicated servers.

“I wanted to give a quick update on some of the work that has been done to improve everyone’s online experience. We’ve already mentioned dedicated servers as part of the overall plan to improve connectivity. Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts. And, in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers.”

This should please those of you who complained about the terrible matchmaking in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and it should solve several of the issues people had with the game. Will you be picking up this installment of Call of Duty? Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

  • SmashFinale

Good news but seeing that this is about Call of Duty im sure the comments for this article will be anti-CoD and troll baiting…

  • Sonic the Hedgehog

Nice of Activision to show support, but remember, SEGA is also supporting Nintendo a lot! SONIC SEZ!

    I mean says..

    • fireheartis1

Don’t worry sonic your new Wii U game is one of the first I’ll be picking up on launch day lol.

    • Wetzel402

      Forgot about that cartoon series.

      • Sonic the Hedgehog

Why should I forget anything that has me in it?

  • It’s nice that Wii U is finally getting the proper treatment it should be getting. No matter what anyone says it is a NEXT GEN console.

    • Emilio Díaz

What about the DLC? we never get DLC

      • True, but hopefully this is a turning point.

      • Dez

Why do you care about DLC? You do realize EA created DLC as a means to milk people and people are dumb enough to let them, so everyone jumped on board. DLC is the devil! I miss the days when we used to get full expansions instead.

      • SkullScience

I agree, at first the DLC issue just seemed to be due to lazy devs/publishers, but now it is so common I would assume there is something actively putting off software houses from creating DLC for Wii U. Hidden charges, added costs, I am not sure but it seems increasingly apparent that it has something to do with Nintendo.

  • They had the money to do this since BLOPS maybe even MW2. Shows you how penny pinching they are

    • [CMD] DEATH

Yeah they can afford it but I’ll bet it costs thousands to millions for the dedicated servers per month for CoD, who knows exactly how it works but I’m glad they are finally doing it!

  • DeedsGaming .

Don’t care if it’s CoD, I’m picking this game up.

  • Petri

Now if they would include cross platform gaming, there would not be shortage of players.

    • Majora’s Mask

if it had id buy the game for wii u but not worth spending 60 euros on an only wii u game servers

      • well i play the old Mass Efect 3 on my wii u and i found teams to play.

        • Majora’s Mask

can you still find now? i tried playing ac3 multiplayer and i was the only one but on my pc version it was full

  • JBeauregard

Funny that Activision hasn’t done this sooner. It has the potential to resolve lag issues, too, which has been an ongoing issue in CoD.

  • Andy Johnson

I am really happy to hear this! I want to buy it for my Wii U, but everyone else is buying it on their Xbox. Anyone know if cross platform online play will exists?

    • Blugrave

If it would exist, it’d never exist on Xbox. Their too stingy.

      • Petri

        Ps3 alone would be enough.

But doubt Sony would do that, since they are doing fine currently, it would only help Nintendo.

        • Blugrave

However it would make the fans very very happy. Let’s hope so. Especially if their paying for it, not Nintendo or Sony then yes! Make this happen and honestly, I’ll start playing COD again!

          • Petri

It could be a nice weapon against Microsoft.
But since Sony is making lot of investments to their network, and starting to charge for online multiplayer, they might become as stingy as MS

          • Blugrave

I hope not, it’d be my dream for Sony and Nintendo to make peace, imagine what they could do together like the Good old days. Ahhhhhhh.

      • readypembroke

yeah, they didn’t let Valve add Steamworks to Portal 2 for the 360 but Sony let Valve add Steamworks and Steamworks allowed cross platform play with PC and Mac players.

    • Theiz Zzee

I don’t think cross platform play exists but, I think you can have your player profile used on another version with all your stats.

    • [CMD] DEATH

As of now, not yet, I think Sony and Nintendo wanted to do that though, it’s just Microsoft that’s the issue.

    • day one for wii u here

  • Fred

have any of you guys played NBA 2k13 on the Wii U online? My buddy and I got it and we’ve been playing, but we’re trying to figure out how to do voice chat and we can’t figure it out. Last night we used our cell phones, but after an hour and a half my buddy got nervous about running out of minutes.

    • Blugrave

      Head set into the gamepad!

      • Fred

I did that, but it didn’t change anything. Which is odd cause it is that easy in Trine 2

        • Blugrave

It works on COD for me also. Hmm maybe it’s no compatible with 2K13?

        • Carlos

NBA2k13 has no voice chat option…

          • Fred

That stinks dang you 2K sports for gimping this version of the game. Good bye cell phone minutes

    • William Short

Use a regular pair of headphones with MicTalk on them or you can buy the 20 or 30 dollar Wii U ones

      • Fred

I have a set of headphones that I plug into the gamepad. It works great when I play Trine 2, but I can’t get it to work on NBA 2K13. Have you done it with that game? Do I need to change a setting somewhere?

    • [CMD] DEATH

Try the Tritton Wii U Stereo Headset, it works great! Best one for Wii U so far, it works on CoD and it should work on all the other games that use a headset.

      • Fred

I think the “other games that use a headset” is the key. I have a Stereo Headset that I’ve used for Trine 2 and it’s worked great, but several people have told me (since I posted this) that voice chat just isn’t a feature for NBA 2K13 so 2K sports gimped the Wii U version.

  • Justin Bailey

That’s great news i’ts nice to see a big company like Activision go above and beyond the call of duty to secure its products quality.

    No pun intended 😉

  • david jarman

None, of the consoles had dedicated servers before. Dedicated servers, and a new engine. I already have my pre-orders.

  • MYCO

    • fireheartis1

It’s Call of Duty my friend I doubt it will be a Teen Rated game. As far as I know all CoD’s have been M rated thus far.

  • fireheartis1

I’m not going to lie here because if this CoD isn’t any different from the others after I pick it up it will be the last CoD game I ever pick up. I will be getting a copy but if it’s just like very other CoD I’m done with the series.

  • Agent721

Very cool…this just sold me on the game!

  • Ace J

ouch thats a slap to the face to all of those xbox one fanboys screaming that they will be the only ones to have dedicated servers

  • prettypinkpanacea

Pfft. I’m sorry but I’ll believe it when I see it. It is just like the uncertain dlc or the so called pre-order bonus maps.

    • [CMD] DEATH

Well this is different, not DLC related at all and there isn’t a very easy way to tell if your on Dedicated servers unless you know how to find out, we should know by the connection though.

      • prettypinkpanacea

As I just typed: believe it when I see it.

  • Petri

On CoD Ghosts page, Wii U is still:
“Current selection is unavailable in your region. Check back for updates.”

And none of the retailers here has it for pre-order either.

  • Ducked

Why can’t CoD Ghosts have Zombies? It’s the only reason I play CoD anymore 🙁

    • Petri

      Maybe thats a treyarch thing?

      • Ducked

That’s what I was thinking, either that or they want to keep it exclusive to black ops.

        • Emilio Díaz

Yes, they have a contract with Infinity Ward where only Treyarch can use zombies for COD 😉

          • Ducked

            Thanks 🙂

      • William Short

But Treyarch are the ones developing the Wii U version

        • Petri

You really think they would give something like a extra mode for Wii U, especially mode like zombies?
Can you even think of the shit storm that would follow it?

    • [CMD] DEATH

Don’t worry man! Infinity Ward has their own new thing called Extinction, supposedly it’s gonna be like Zombies but Aliens! Very interesting news, wonder how it’ll be like but seems as if there is a story in it unlike Zombies where you just fight round after round forever.

      • Ducked

Really? Sounds awesome. Well, I prefer Tranzit 🙂

  • Ben Trimpi Jr.

I unfortunately won’t be getting CoD Ghosts…only because it won’t have theater mode. I know that may sound a little stupid but I just recently got into the FLuX clan on black ops 2 for Wii U and have been getting clips recorded and posted on youtube, but I can’t on Ghosts because I don’t have a recording device :/ so no I won’t be getting Ghosts…Unless a miracle happened and they had DLC for theater 😀

    • Ben Trimpi Jr.

Btw, for those of you who have been members since around Christmas 2012…THIS IS BENTENDO >:D

  • SpookYLoGiC

The main issue was the limited amount of people playing. Theres been connection issues for all consoles when it came to call of duty. Hopefully there will be a significantly larger amount of people that come to the U to play CoD.

  • Archiq09

with dedicated servers peoples can create mod and sometime map… it that with halo 2 on xbox on xlink servers.

  • Møhåmmęd Jårmøn

    Thank The Lord!!!

I’ll be getting it for sure now,Dedicated servers should help a lot I’m hoping, hate when someone has bad internet and I get so much lag then the host times out, this should solve that problem.

  • WellWisher

  • zajac1661

Great! The WiiU seriously need more multiplayer focus in my opinion. Local mp is nice. But when fellow wii owners live across the country, games like smb or rayman for an example, suffers from that interest. Assassins creed was impossible to even locate players. Fifa sufers bad connection and dropouts. The only game, where i actually had a jolly nice online mp playtrouh was trine 2. More online mp implementation in the games please! 🙂

  • devmiles

Ok, so who will buy this on wii-u if you also have a ps3, ps4 or x360.. blackops2 was so horrible in multiplayer for wii-u that is was almost unplayable, not to mention the non DLC. better just buy this for other consoles. Nintendo still has lots to learn on online gaming. it’s good that Ghost will be released on wii-u but i would then just buy it for storymode… i’m convinced it will be just like BO2 in 3 months after release on a lower shelf for 20 bucks
