Child of Light Concept Art

Child of Light creative director Patrick Plourde has said in an interview that the upcoming downloadable title, published by Ubisoft, will make full use of the Wii U GamePad. While no specifics were given, it is encouraging to see developers eager to take advantage of the GamePad’s functionality.

When announced, Child of Light dazzled with its visuals, which are powered by the UbiArt Framework. It also showcased how it blended together two seemingly disparate genres: the platformer and the RPG.

Now we that we know there are some Wii U-specific features, we are even more intrigued. Igniculus, the companion character of the game, will likely work in a similar fashion as Murphy did in Rayman Legends.

Do you think there are more areas of GamePad functionality the team could explore? How excited are you for Child of Light? Let us know in the comments section!

I’ve seen trailers from this game and it seems cool. I do not know if I will buy it exactly when it comes out, because I already have a lot of games pending, but surely will. Great to have games from Ubisoft. Also got AC4 and going to get Watchdogs when it is ready.

coming from Ubisoft, I wouldn’t have doubted this.

  • Rugmouse

My hype level for this is through the roof. The music, the art style, the blending of 2D platforming and turn based combat…very intriguing to say the least.

Ubisoft has proven (at least for me) that they know how to really utilize the Gamepad in unique ways. Zombi U was the best example so far. I can’t wait to see what they have planned for this one.

    • Adam Porter

yea even i’m looking forward to this, and i can’t stand the sight of more 2d platformers, but this one looks kick ass.

    • Mario

I seen them using the gamepad many good ways. In my opinion, Ubisoft is of the few companies that really know how inovate their games with the WiiU’s controller.

    • Josiah Parsons

That UbiArt framework is simply dazzling. I can’t wait.

    • Volfos

Zombi U was an amazing gamepad demonstration… as long as Ubisoft remember to make the core game good this time (which they can do REALLY well) its entirely possible the Wii-U version will be the best.

  • Deadpool U

Great the gamepad needs to be used more than just maps and inventory I’d like Child of Light is bringing to the table.

  • Fred

Do we have any idea when this game is coming?

  • Simon Stevens

I really really want this game bad!, big thanks to Ubisof for being so professional and maintaining their partnership with Nintendo through the tough times the Wii U has had this year, the very fact that their continuing to innovate the gamepad speaks volumes about their belief in the system and leaving their paw print on the industry, truly an example on how a successful business should be practiced.

I am hyped for this i wish its sister games (valient heart ect) was also coming to Wii u

Also high five for a Wii u RPG that’s not mass effect (where’s my trilogy!?)

  • Elitepwnsface

The fact it is 2d kinda bites assfk. But having RPG elements really brighten it up. The Art style looks amazing as well.

  • Jared Garcia

It looks amazing. I support a lot of indie games on my Wii U. They just add color to the empty squares that once were, even if I play them less than 10 times.

  • Cesar Barroso

    i am getting this!

  • Einar

This game has to be one of the games I’ve been looking out for the most lately. I get chills everytime I watch the announcement trailer!

  • Rinslowe

That’s what we like to hear Ubisoft…. Tailor make the sht out of it please.

  • Ducked

Is this going to be a eshop game or retail?

    • abe

Eshop, this is part of the same refresh program produced farcry3 blood dragon (also the last gen version beyond good and evil)

Ubisoft give there deva the chance to make something fresh after big launches. And if their good they’ll throw minimal surport behind it, if it sells its sequel will be big disk based launch

  • Agent721

    Thanks again UBI Soft!

  • Sheiky Baby

    Gots to love Ubi!

  • Stone Phalanges

I hope “fully supporting” the gamepad means offscreen play. Offscreen play really is the killer app for me when it comes to the Wii U.

  • GmailIsDown

this game is going to be awesome

  • Daniel Schwarz

I’m not usually a fan of RPG’s but this game looks beautiful. I may check it out.
