Japanese publisher Capcom has yet to show any support for the Wii U. In fact, they haven’t announced a single Wii U Capcom game to date. Now, according to the company’s latest financial report, they don’t really believe the Wii U is a next gen console to begin with. In its report, Capcom states that while Nintendo will release a new console this year, “time is required before the next generation console cycle begins in earnest”. Meaning that the next generation starts with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720. According to Capcom, at least.

Capcom Wii UWhile Capcom has yet to unveil a single Wii U game, it still looks like they’re planing to support the console in the future. Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata has said on record that he would love to see the franchise on the Wii U. Last month, A Capcom vice president dropped by the official forums and said that they have “some good stuff coming to the Wii U“.

Capcom is behind several popular franchises, including Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and the recently announced sci-fi action title Remember Me, which was at one point considered for the Wii U. The game is Capcom’s brand new IP set for release in 2013 on various consoles and PC. But sadly, not the Wii U.

Some readers have voiced their concern with the article and the quote by Capcom. Here is the full quote from Capcom: “Although Nintendo will release the new game console Wii U and the market will be continue to be invigorated by the increase of DLC, time is required before the next generation console cycle begins in earnest“. The exact meaning could be lost in the translation from Japanese to English. The article isn’t meant to mislead anyone — I sincerely believe that this statement says that Capcom does not consider the start of the new console generation with the Wii U.

Until Capcom officially supports the Wii U or releases some statement clarifying this, I stand by the article. You’re free to disagree, all we ask is that you stay civil in the comments section.

Crapcom being Crapcom like always. Money hungry devs.

    • nintedward

i hate this article . its about as misleading as you can possibly get. well done wiiudaily.

NOWHERE in this article does capcom say they dont think the wiiu is next gen.

they are just suggesting the next gen doesnt fully start until ALL 3 CONSOLES are on the market. which is fair enough and TRUE .

of course wiiu is next gen . is the 3ds a gen behind the vita ????

no . the 3ds is in the same gen as vita and its better regardless of graphics.
thats proof of the pudding right there. so stfu .

      • nintedward

next time wiiu daily . write an article called ”TROLL FEED THIS WAY!!!!!!”

and write one saying ”THE WIIU IS DOG SH&T!!!!!”

and then write one saying ”Because Patcher thinks the wiiu is sh*t , it is sh*T!!!!!”

        • FennexFox

Then the problem is the way they word it, they have to be more clear about what they say then.

        • AKA-Link77

I guess they might change the Title then. ( from “Capcom doesnt believe Wii U is a Next Gen console” to . . . .)

          • nintedward

Capcom doesnt think the next gen starts until 720 and ps4 are released .

capcom doesnt think the ‘next generation’ will begin until all three new consoles are on the market place .

the wiiu is sort of current gen due to the abundance of ports and cross platform games shared by the 360 and ps3 .

but the wiiu should become ‘next gen’ once the 720 and ps4 hit the market.
as cross platform games will of evolved further by then.

capcom isnt suggesting the wiiu tech and hardware isnt ‘next gen’
they are simply implying that the next gen doesnt truly begin until this generation has ended.

nintendo , in terms of specs may of created a ‘mid gen’ console theoreticaly speaking .
but which ever way you look at it . it is next gen .

just go and look at history and you will see , that graphical processing is probably the least important factor in defining a generation.

        • AKA-Link77

BTW theres the same artical on MyNintendoNews but its intitled: “Capcom Says The Next Generation Doesn’t Start With Wii U”
          Heres Capcom’s full statment:
“Although Nintendo will realese the new game console Wii U and the market will continue to be invigorated by the increase of DLC, time is required before the next generation console cycle begins in earnest.”
Though it may seem like an innocent statment they are useing high implementations to imply something. . .

          • Kyron

…and what might that “something” be?

          • Captain Potato

That “something” is…Capcom isn’t going to create a game for what they currently see as an “inferior next-generation” system until they can port it from the “superior offerings that xbox 2 and playstation 4 have to offer”! They would rather spend oodles creating games for systems that aren’t out yet and port them to Wii U than create a game for Wii U and then have to re-create, from scratch, something to offer the “big dogs”? Not only does this make Capcom look like douches, but it sucks that Nintendo gets treated like their “Red Headed Step-Child” …SUCKS!

          • AKA-Link77

The UPDATE to this artical is basically what i just said above [days ago]. 🙂

          • Captain Potato

Uhhhhhh…….no! Answer this for me though…when was the last time you saw a “Street Fighter” game on a Nintendo console that wasn’t a portable, cross-over, collection, or a download? Now compare that to any Microsoft or Sony system and you will get your answer!
            Like I said…sucks!

        • Knotan

          You are fucking retarded

      • Britton

I agree. I thought this article was misleading as well. When I read ““time is required before the next generation console cycle begins in earnest”. Meaning that the next generation starts with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720.” I was baffled at how that conclusion was reached. I dont think Capcom was quoted enough to make this article legit. Time IS required before the next gen console cycle begins IN EARNEST. Meaning all next gen consoles have not been release and Nintendo has a head start on the competition with their next gen console. It has begun, however it is not in full swing until the competition has released their consoles. That is my opinion. I believe Capcom was misrepresented here. Sorry.

        • nintedward

exactly . the 360 never got up to speed until ps3 came out.

so is the 360 not even current gen , considering how appauling it was compared to ps3 ???? nope. the wii , 360 and ps3 are all in the god damn same generation .

          • nintedward

there is a distinct difference between the meaning of the word ‘generation’ and ‘graphics’ .

capcom could of said ”we personaly do not believe the wiiu is powerfull enough to compete with the ps4 and 720 graphically”.

ok . that is fair enough , but that doesnt mean the wiiu is in a previous generation .

all they are implying by saying ”generation” is the generation of games which will be coming.

so what if the ps4 turns out to be twice as powerfull as the 720 ????

so the wiiu is the least powerfull , the 720 slightly more powerfull and the ps4 is twice as powerfull ???? does that mean they are all in a different generation ?????

            NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it just mean’s they have different graphical capabilities.

sorry wiiu daily and mr kinsley . but you hace completely missinterpretated and blown out of proportion’s this article.

basically to prove my point. what if the ps4 is twice as powerfull as the 720 ????????? or vice versa ??????? does that mean they are in a different generation ???? they will still be recieving the same generation of COD games.

      • 007 1/2

the wii u will b the most powerful console available. they cant deny that.

      • ToF

Well nintedward,This site in general is kind of that way. When they present news, it’s not always in a professional kind of way. When negative news arrives towards Wii U or Nintendo in general they counter it [sometimes good counters] and even the reasonable negative news is just overlooked. And the other rival companies [Microsoft’s Xbox, Sony’s PlayStations] are always talked down on. And the comments are flooded with the same things and usually stereotyped as shooters.

        • nintedward

the human race prefers bad news to good . sad but true.
even if it is twisted and barely true at all .

      • Ibiexplorer4

I know, right? This was a complete bait and switch.

      • BluChuChu

Completely agree, this is a very poor article. It almost looks like the author is trying to turn us against Capcom by putting words in their mouth. Not everyone is convinced the WiiU will do amazing, and for a company like Capcom, (one that has REALLY lost its touch) it could be risky for them. Capcom can’t afford any screw ups, so they are just playing it safe.

That being said, I’m excited for the Wii U and could not care less if Capcom ever makes games for the system.

        • TheRedSnifit

Capcom’s profits rose 290% in June, so I fail to see why everybody on the Internet is convinced they’re on the verge of bankruptcy.

          • BluChuChu

I didn’t say they were doing bad as a Company financially. I said that they have lost their touch. They may have mad a good profit in June, (one month out of 12 in a year) but really, what actually good IPs do they have under their belt that are released regularly? Also, 290% increase? They only way that would be possible is if the previous month was really low, which is most likely the case.

      • Rolam

Exactly! John?? Retract your story because it is completely false. Capcom clearly said that the next generation is not in full swing with the release of just the Wii U. The implication there is obvious…the next generation will be going in full swing once Nintendo AND Sony AND Microsoft release their consoles. What a terrible article. I just took Wiiudaily off my bookmarks because this is not the first time I have seen them write up something so careless and inflamatory.

      • Bobaganoosh

Capcom fan eh? Me too. Thing is, it is likely that the writer of this article is probably right. It is a very common attitude that the Wii U -still hate the name by the way- is current gen. Spec wise, if it is more powerful than the 360 & ps3, it isn’t by much. It’s system specs are current gen. Like the Wii before it, the Wii U innovates in other ways. Many people believe that if the new system can’t push more pixels, it isn’t innovating. I disagree. The Wii motion controls were very innovative, but didn’t catch on with a lot of the hardcore crowd. because of this many of the more serious games got ported onto the other consoles Hence. like me, they own more than one console.
Being a nintendo fan and one that plans on picking up a Wii U, I really hope this isn’t the case with this gen, but I’m not holding my breath just yet.

    • Mike

How did you get to the top of the comments when you didn’t even bother checking the quote? He didn’t say anything about the Wii U being not next gen, he said the next gen starts when all 3 consoles are out, he basically meant that next gen multiplatform games will only show up when all 3 consoles are out.

    • ECM

Good ol’ herd mentality: one idiot mis-reads this and every site on the ‘Net agrees with that idiot.

A plain reading by anyone w/ even the barest grasp of English would show that they’re merely saying the nextgen won’t be in full swing for a few years, which should be met with yawns since it’s *obvious*.

God, the gaming ‘media’ needs to be dragged out and collectively flogged for impressively terrible reading comprehension skills.

      • NintendoGamer

That guy being wrong doesn’t mean crap. Crapcom it’s still a money hungry piece of crap company. They were good in the 90s, but now they are not worth a d@mn.

    • commander riker

Next gen happens when captin piccard says make it so number 1

    • pnc45

is it me or are they jealous becuase ubisoft is bringing a zombie game to the wii u first than them bringin resident evil to the wii u first.

  • Daniel Switzer

If you’ve noticed, there is very few Japanese Wii U games currently announced, they’re all being kept secret for now. But no, obviously another beg for clicks by twisting words and ‘the truth’. I forget why I come to this site.

  • Sethlaw225

well Capcom i dont really think your games are innovative to even meet The U expectations. just saying

    • Grodus

      Thats exactly what I thought!

  • nope

Open Gl equivalent to dx11 support confirmed, UE4 confirmed , cryengine 3 runs on wii u with high pc specs.

lol OK capcom. ur not that great now anyway. lol they wont be getting half the money next gen. XD

    • nintedward

no dont be too hastey here.

capcom will have a ton of wiiu games. they already confirmed they are working on a few and will anounce them soon .

this article isnt negative at all . i fail to see how any negatives can be extracted from this article .

the wiiu has an advantage over 720 and ps4 . by the time they come out . it will have a 20,000,000 user install base XD.

    • deSSy2724

But Crysis 3 (game) will come to PS3 and Xbox 360, not for Wii U….. and what “high specs”, quote me the person who said that, pls!

UE4 is confirmed only for PC at this time (ofc, nothing strange), but its not confirmed for current gen consoles and its not confirmed for Wii U, PS4 and Xbox 720/8 (yet)…. they said only that UE4 is “scalable”

Just, DONT RUSH…. Crysis 3 wil come for PS3 and Xbox 360, but CryEngine 3 supports Wii U.

“It doesn’t mean that CryEngine 3 doesn’t run on Wii U – it actually runs beautifully,” Yerli told CVG. “In fact, there actually is a game in development from a respected developer that we will be announcing. I’ve seen the game running and it looks really great.”

As for the prowess of the tech powering Nintendo’s next console, Yerli thinks it’s “minimum as powerful as Xbox 360.”

So…. high pc specs? hmm not confirmed (maybe yes, meybe not) but PC will always be stronger (example, 200$ PC to 3000 $+ PC), but it is actually confirmed that Wii U is way more powerful than Xbox 360.

  • Eric

Is it me or is Nintendo treated like a Republican?

    • ScientificFlood

Theres a difference. Republicans deserve being treated like shit. Nintendo doesnt

      • roedburn

and the same can be said about democrats too. and what happened to keeping political views off this sight?

  • gearchin

everyone has a mixed view on what next gen is; i myself consider it to be the next iteration of a video game console, i.e nes;snes;n64;GameCube;wii; and now finally wii-u. capcom is in over its head if it doesnt think wii-u is next gen.

This all of course is my opinion.

  • JCMGamer

No, Capcom has traveled farther into the dark side. 🙁

  • Infinite_Rubix_Cube

Oh, Capcom… what has happened to you?

    • Aenifer

  • Macarony64

And capcom is still thinking why they fell they should let the company be run by monkeys they have a better businise sence

    • Macaro

I dont dislke capcom for the thing wiiu daily say on the headline i dislike capcom for the reason that they blame consumers for not buying there games. After all they are the 1 that cancel megaman and they dont want to released monster hunter on the 3ds o and project x how can you not hate then too and dont forget the on disk dlc thing

  • Here’s Why

Them Japanese people. They have so many advanced things, of course they will think that Wii U is not next gen. -_-

    • nintedward

      accidental racism .

      • 007 1/2

I dont believe it is racist if it is a good thing.

      • Here’s Why

I was not being racist at all. It’s the truth – over at Japan, there are so many cool things there that Japanese people are use to, that they probably might not find the Wii U interesting. I may be wrong though, because look at the 3DS. 🙂

I do not know why I got so many thumbs down, I was saying that the Japanese probably wont find it impressive, not me, sillys! I love the Wii U!

        • nintedward

          i know i was joking!!!.

sorry if i looked bad there buddy .

  • Matthewmc685

I think the head line made Capcom sound like a Nintendo hate group when all thay said was that gameing itself will not move to next gen till most or all of the next gen platforms are out.

  • Nintendo Power

The Wii U is Next Gen.Next Gen in great Gameplay,Screw Graphics

  • Braulio500

Why can’t the people just understand?

  • HyperSonicN1

That’s not a good thing. With this mentality we risk to see the Wii U treated like a lesser console for shovelware games, which would be one of the worse thing that would happen to it. Let’s hope other developers are more open-minded in regerds of console generations.

This would also mean that great series by Capcom like RE probably won’t have “important” games until the PS4/Xbox 8 are announced. Not too much of a problem for me, but I’m sure it can be bad news for Capcom fans.

    • 88MilesPrower

If the Wii U causes a mini Wii revolution (which i believe it can, just not at launch) they’ll probably do a heel-face turn. I feel like because Nintendo is trying to push it really hard as some sort of crazy powerhouse, they won’t have the excuses that “justified” shovelware and we might get some really good games that aren’t aimed at the AAA super-duper hardcore narrative HD guys. Think about other companies than Nintendo making games like Punch-Out, Rhythm Heaven, and golden age Mario Bros.

Of course, they could just come up with BS reasons not to and keep feeding us crap. That Party Games sequel is the harbinger of doom on this one, and i REALLY hope it isn’t indicative of how the console will be treated. We’re likely to see it treated like a Super Gamecube at first before devs either go one way or the other.

  • John

    Yeah that’s pretty much true.

  • person

  • JohnAguilera

    Guess I’ll be boycotting Capcom.

  • XDLugia

It is next gen, however I get their point if the console doesn’t support DirectX 11.
I am going to get the WiiU anyway, but I would REALLY like if it supported DirectX 11.

You guys who says that graphics does not matter are wrong. There is a reason why people have moved on from the NES.
Yes, gameplay is more important, but don’t say that a game like Metroid prime would be just as good on the N64.

    • PSWii60

Unless Nintendo is paying Microsoft $$$$ , DirectX 11 will not be on the Wii U (nor will it be on PS4). Sony and Nintendo use OpenGL.

    • 88MilesPrower

The “people have moved on from the NES” statement seems to be the root of the confusion. Why was the Wii so successful? Because it was a better Super Nintendo Entertainment System than the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. We like to think that gaming is growing because worldwide sales increase as new markets see videogames for the first time (this is how the PS2 shattered records) and without arcades people are forced to buy every game they want. However, the Wii explosion was due to all the people who didn’t upgrade to the SNES (because it had a *target audience*, words that should never be uttered in a gaming discussion. Why would you NOT want a group to play? ) coming back to gaming for the first time since the 1980s.

The NES, for example, revolutionized control. The SNES just had more buttons and lead to the unintuitive PS360 controllers that must be learnt. You and i know them by heart, but any random joe? Anyone could use an NES controller what with it’s “fancy dancy” new D-Pad and only two buttons, and anyone could use a Wiimote what with it’s “fancy dancy” motion controls. One could upgrade to a nunchuck and a CC controller, but the bar to enter has been lowered. Giving a random joe a PS360 will involve a lot of learning, but someone could easily start with Wii Sports and work their way up to Metroid Prime 3. Or not, because the Wii offered plenty of games for people who didn’t want to play a game like Metroid Prime 3. Those kind of titles are scarce on post-NES consoles.

So yeah, sorry about the violent, two-paragraph retaliation towards one sentence.

      • 007 1/2

i agree. the controls on the wii were learned without even trying. the ps3 control, i have to find the square button and im dead before i look down.

    • Death

That’s impossible. DirectX 11 is ONLY on xbox 360. It’s owned by Microsoft; they’re not putting it on wii u.

    • James

Actually, according to the rumor stating it’s only going to have a DX 10 capable GPU, it also states it has compute shaders which is a DX 11 exclusive feature. But I see your point, and I’m fairly confident in the Wii U’s capabilities. 🙂

    • GameChanger

I just wanna comment on you saying graphics are the reason people moved on from the NES. People didn’t move on because of graphics…they moved on because there was little support for the console at the end. I know, much like myself, many gamers continued to support the NES long after the SNES was released. I played both probably about equally. The developers moved on. Gamers had to completely move on because the developers stopped the support. Look at the PS2…that system still gets support after almost 12 years on the market and 6 years after the PS3 launch.

    • deSSy2724

Nintendo just need to use the magic word: “balance” and prove that Wii U is next gen (stronger than PS3 and Xbox 360), i mean… more difference than “PS3 vs Xbox 360 difference”, and the real difference between PS3 and Xbox 360 is:

But next gen is not only about specs/power… Nintendo is innovative (controller).. thats current the only thing we know for now but GPU and RAM will probably (95%) be next gen according to developers (im not talking about “anonymous” developers), im not sure about “true next gen CPU” (yet)

So, for now its 1:0 for “Wii U = next gen”

  • [GHOST]

Actually Capcom didn’t say this in their words; the journalist of the original article spun it to make it sound this way. I think they mean that until this generation is officially over nothing will change; the Xbox 360 started this generation, but it didn’t make a difference until the competition moved in as well.

  • Mike

Misleading title and article. If you read the qoute you can see that he meant the next gen won’t start until everyone has their consoles out, not just Nintendo, nothing was pointing towards him saying it’s not a next gen console. Disappointed in you Wii U Daily once more, I hope your “informant” is real in regards to Zelda Wii U.

    • Zhenya

now im just doubting that zelda will come to wii u as big as they said

    • Mike

Fredo, you’re my older brother, and I love you. But don’t ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever.

  • nintedward

    this isnt true.

capcom doesn’t believe the next gen starts until 720 and ps4 arrive.

    this is true.
because wiiu will recieve cross platform games from 360 and ps3 for the next year and a half .

once the ps4 and 720 are released then ‘next gen’ cross platform games will be released . they will probably be graphicaly scaled down versions. but hey.

capcom didn’t state ”the wiiu isnt a next gen console” at all . thats BS.

its like suggesting the 3ds is previous gen compared to vita cus its graphics are worse. they are both the same gen end of story.

the n64 was twice as powerfull as the ps1 = same gen
the psp was twice as powerfull or more than ds = same gen
the ps3 and 360 dwarfed wii’s stats = same gen
the gamecube and xbox were more powerfull than ps2 = same gen .
the 3ds and vita are totaly different = same gen .
the wiiu is not as powerfull as a 720 or a ps4 but has awesome new gamepad controller = same fu*&ing GEN!!!!!!

capcom are very fond of nintendo. this is a realistic comment by them.

the next gen doesnt truly start until microsoft and sony release their consoles. by which stage the wiiu will have completely outpeformed the current generation.

compare psp to a 3ds . this is how ps3 will compare to wiiu .

    • Matthewmc685

If we can’t even trust the specs of the Wii U yet what makes you think the PS4 or 720 will be more powerfull? All we know is Nintendo wants the “hard core” group so it will have a fair amount of power, sony said thay can’t over power the PS4 because there only power house of its gen was the PS3 and that hurt Sony’s profit and Microsoft wants to go kinect 2.0. I’m not saying it’s going to kill 8th gen but it will never be Wii vs 7th gen.

      • 007 1/2

i know the ps4 and 720 will b more powerful bc microsoftie and phony dnt have ideas. therefore, they just create an overpowered console.

        • Matthewmc685

Sony themselves said they can’t over power there console and that was smart because if you look at all the times Sony was on top of the console market there consoles where FAR weaker than Nintendo’s and on top of that they priced there popular consoles at a loss and then they made a high price, high performance PS3 and lost their crown to Nintendo.

There was a leak from Microsoft showing the “Radeon HD 6670” witch many people bleaved to be true and comparing this to the Wii U would make Nintendo fans have a party with cake. (The cake is not a lie)

I’m not going to say Nintendo Wii U will be the most powerful console because specs are subject to change however on the information we have at the moment it looks that way with PS4 not lagging too far away and Xbox using there kinect 2.0 to be the next Wii.

          • [GHOST]

I’ve actually been doing a lot of digging today in order to find what Nintendo could be gunning for with the technical specifications they posted on their E3 site and Wikipedia. I did a lot of cross-referencing using the info we know such as the GPU being Radeon HD based and 3D compatible, using HDMI 1.4, and that Nintendo wants to minimize power consumption, and over-heating.

  • RockD79

I don’t believe he’s talking PS4 and the next Xbox either. How much more powerful than the Wii U can these consoles be with $400 and under price tag?

    • Grodus

They’ll be like $1,000, so they can beat out nintnedo (power-wise) within an inch of their lives.

  • Dmonkeyman

all they are saying is that the next-gen hasn’t fully begun until all consoles are out. Sony fanboys are gonna blow this way out of proportion

you made all your readers look A LOT cleverer than you are . heres a cookie.

      • 007 1/2

how did that get past moderation?

      • LolWatTurtles

I made a comment regarding a lot of the misleading that has already happened on Wii U daily from whoever is making the posts of infomation, except they never even showed it. It’s true though, what’s with all the misleading?

  • cheesekiller

psvita kinda looks and feels boring plus it has fewer games. 3DS can play all the old DS games, and now can even play the classic gameboy games and if they keep adding to that well….. lol? though lets be honest with ourselves the handheld that has pokemon is gonna win every single time. does psvita look like its ever getting pokemon?
i submit to you that most all the top ones are nintendo and BASICALLY EVERY POKEMON IS ON THERE.

  • nintedward

why do you nintendo websites keep misinterpretating these comments ????

please explain yourself wiiu daily!!! mynintendonews did the same thing.

nowhere in this article does capcom state they think the wiiu is underpowered or not next gen or anything like that.

they are stating the obvious like EA has already done.

NEW GAMES AND IP’s wont be released for cross platforms until all 3 ‘next gen’ consoles are on the market.

for now the wiiu will recieve ps3 and 360 ports. why is that so hard to understand ??? i know that , you know that , capcom knows that and nintendo knows that.

in 2 years time . the wiiu will be recieving games that probably wont appear on the 360 or ps3. ports of (graphicaly inferior maybe) 720 and ps4 ‘next gen’ games.

the wiiu is ahead o current generation which ever way you look at it.

you just didnt understand what capcom said.

you could potentialy make people feel negative about wiiu with your missleading article . and its not very clever or professional.

i could of easily made a very positive article about this statement.

ie = ”the wiiu will become next gen once the ps4 and 720 arrive.”

  • ScientificFlood

Yet again a quote taken out of context to get views, and cause commotion.

Capcom NEVER said the Wii U wasnt a next gen console. If you actually have reading comprehension skills. They meant the “NEXT GEN” cycle doesnt start until all 3 consoles are out. This is a no brainer. A person with an elementary school degree could figure this stuff out.

Until all 3 big “NEXT GEN” consoles come out. Next gen technically wont be started. As only games specifically for the Wii U will be tailored for next gen. While third party games wont be technically “next gen” because those games will also be on the PS3/360 this gen systems.

Next gen will start in bulk for third party developers when the Wii U, PS4, and NextBox are out, because those games will be developed for “NEXT GEN” systems. Not ports from this gen systems to the next gen system “Wii U”.

  • Ninty1

lol How they can not think the Wii U is not Next-Gen? It’s listed as one of the 8th Generation consoles on Wikipedia.

    • roedburn

they don’t, the title is misleading as to what Capcom actually said.

  • PSWii60

Kind of a missleading title. No where did i see a quote from capcom stating that Wii U is not next gen.

Is John Kinsley (author of this article) trying to imitate Eurogamer? Just because support has not been shown yet does not mean Capcom thinks Wii U is not next gen. Not every game company will have a game out for a new console within launch window.

Capcom has said they have plans for the Wii U. For all we know the games they have planned might be multi console and they want to wait for PS4 & 720 to be on the market.

If you actually believe that Capcom thinks Wii U is not a next-gen console, I have a bridge to sell you.

  • WiiUFantard

Capcom is just stating that the 8th generation doesn’t FULLY start until PS4 and 720 is released.
In other words: “It’s competition and competitors start when the PS4 and XBOX 720 is released”.
    Lets hope that made sense.

    • AO1JMM

It actually did but most people will think otherwise.

    • Kyron

If that’s the case, why did they just state the obvious?

      • TheRedSnifit

Because that’s what you do in financial reports, idiot.

        • Kyron

          ^^^…says the Michael Pachter fan.

If you’re the one defending companies who state obvious facts, then statements like what Capcom said must really be needed for incomprehensive fans like you.

  • cyclone

i stop giving a fuck by capcom ever since they canceled megaman, the 3ds is a next gen console, because of better graphic, sound, etc and of course the wii u is a next gen because it will have the greatest graphic for a year or 2

  • The Detonator

well guess what capcom. guess who is not getting is smash bros. mega man!! and any other stupid characters you have. how dare you say that about Nintendo

    get N or get out!

    • roedburn

Again they didn’t say anything bad about Nintendo, they were misquoted.

  • Happy Mask Man

Crapcom have made themselves irrelevant by pandering to their share holders, and ignoring the wishes of a gaming community. Street fighter vs Tekken being a prime example. A broken, bug fest of a game, DLC (on disc) mess, marginalized by EVO, with no community WHAT SO EVER! The tune they are dancing to does not involve innovation, as they jig to the all mighty dollar. Irreverent, move along!

    • TheRedSnifit

All public companies pander to shareholders, Einstein, it’s how they become successful. Since Capcom’s making record profits, it’s safe to say that they’re satisfying the gaming community, since that’s how they make their money.

      • Happy Mask Man

You seriously believe that a companies successful is judged purely on profit and that pandering to shareholders equates to good products? Does making record profits mean that customers are satisfied in the long run? I may not be Einstein, but you are ignorant. Three iterations of SFIV, a totally unwarranted and ignored UMVC3, SFXT on disc DLC and the cancelled Mega man universe. Where is Onimusha, dino crisis, Viewtiful Joe? Yes, they made dollar, but they have alienated the core of a long serving fan base in the process.

  • Grodus

Apparently, this is mostly lies. Well, thats good, not just because Capcom isnt a bunch of retards, but because I dont like Capcom, so I couldn’t boycott ’em. And Wii U Daily staff, I’m dissapointed. Where did you go wrong?

  • LordiMcKill

I always believe that the term ‘next gen’ is that next stage in the release of consoles and not based on graphical capabilities (although that is a factor). If that was the case the Wii would be in a generation of its own but it’s not, this generation consists of the Wii, PS3 and the 360 and the next generation will consist of the Wii U, PS4, 720 and ?? (If Apple or Valve decided to join the fray.)

The Wii U is a next gen machine despite many nay sayers and how it will fair against the PS4 and 720 is yet to be decided.

    • Kyron

  • nick

Unlike with cell phones, there is no power or speed requirement for the generations of gaming consoles. Console generations are defined simply by release of a new console. Nintendo could release a system with the power of the NES, and if it was their new main system, it would be a part of the next generation of gaming. Capcom doesn’t quite understand how it works.

  • totesawks

I actually think this is a fair point on Capcoms behalf.
Don’t get me wrong. I am a Nintendo fan for life but I really don’t believe the Wii U is going to last. Either way, I am going to purchase one purely for the new Zelda. But I would love to see Resi 6 on the system but that isn’t going to happen. So far for launch, there is not a single title I’m interested in accept ZombiU. I’m holding off cause we all thought Red Steel was going to be special.

  • AO1JMM

None of their games even scream current gen let alone will the scream next gen.

  • SuperShyGuy

Damn every since the Wii U had been announced it seems people just can’t wait to gather around negative stories to kick around Nintendo.

I hope more than ever it turns into a huge success.

I mean got to sites like M4G negative Wii U stories are the most commented yet when a sells chart with Nintendo blowing away the competition gets nothing.

  • The_Beeshnu

Capcom hasn’t shown us much good news about the wii u
With this, remember me not coming out for the wii u
Hopefully this isn’t the case after it comes out

  • Kyron

You know what Crapcom, screw you all and your bias mentality. Your games suck. Who needs you anyway? Go make your sh*tty games for other platforms like Apple. Sellouts!

Even development companies are becoming fanboys now…

Whatever happened to the good ol’ days? God, please bring back the N64 era.

  • snestendo

Who ever said Capcom was against it. Wii U daily is very misleading.

  • nintendofreak

    fuck u capcom

    • nintendofreak

anyway since capcom decided to not do megaman anymore u lost me and more and more resident evil is losing its badassness from d old games n turning into CoD clone with zombies.

      • TheRedSnifit

Ah, nothing like nostalgists complaining about their lack of outdated controls and camera angles, eh?

  • ConCity Soldier

At this point I could care less about what I hear. I will play it & decide for myself.

  • Whirlwindyoshi

Says the company that canceled MML3. They’re dead to me. Plus next gen is literal in its meaning as in the next set of consoles just like families have generations, the meaning didn’t change.

    • nintedward

you are right . they calnt use the term ‘generation’ to differentiate a consoles power. that doesnt make sense.

thats like saying my grandma’s brother doesnt have the same parents as her.

they could say ”the wiiu doesnt have the same graphical capabilities as its competitors , so will have different games”.

but its impossible for them to use the word ‘GENERATION’ for this implied meaning. IMPOSSIBLE .

  • Sethlaw225

dont really care what Capcom thinks. They’ll make a game then a Month later add Super/Ultamate to the name or what ever plus characters and sell for a Full Title price.

  • LyingTuna

Well, I think CAPCOM was misquoted. Even so, their lack of support upsets me. I think they should do a megaman anniversary collection remake, with various additions for the Wii U GamePad. You know, like a map or the option to pick items or something. The best would be a thing where on the television you got an HD, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 looking version, whereas on the GamePad it was 8-bit. Optionally, of course. Also, it should have MegaMan 1-10, X1-8, and the gameboy games. Also, the Wily Wars should be there. Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?

Also, as an afterthought, what about including Legends 1 and 2, as well as the Missadventures of Tron Bonne. At least check to see what people are interested in before you cancel a game next time, eh CAPCOM? Maybe if a rerelease of Legends sold well, we’d get Legends 3!

  • Meelow100

What’s with all the sites with the misleading headline?, Capcom was saying that it doesn’t offically start until Wii U, PS4, and Xbox 720 doesn’t officially release.

  • Zero

I find the article sort of contradictory, “it is not cool enough to call it next gen, but we’ll still love to see one of our greatest franchises on the U.”
Makes me think of a PS3/XBOX fanboy who wants (and probably gets) a Wii U, but is too afraid to admit it because it would ruin his/her reputation as a “badass gangsta that uses guns bro” and plays M games 5 years too early.

Anyways, as long as they eventually make a game for the Wii U, I’m happy.

    • Zero

      PS: Phoenix Wright… Please…

  • Zero

Sorry for the above comments, title was misleading.
And yes, I’ll stop replying to myself.

  • TheRedSnifit

Please, this is ridiculous. They said the 8th-gen cycle doesn’t begin in “earnest” until there’s more than one 8th-gen console out. This makes perfect sense from a business perspective, and is the kind of thing you’d expect to see in a financial report, since it’s something you have to take into account when developing games for 8th-gen consoles.

Seriously, if they were going to bash Nintendo, why would they use a financial report? Why not just come out and say “We don’t believe the Wii U is next-gen”, instead of in a goddamn *financial report* sent to executives and regulators, and why use the language they did? Does anybody on the Internet think before they start panicking anymore?

  • SteampunkJedi

It’s a new home console. A new generation. End of story. Although Capcom said “time is required before the next generation console cycle begins in earnest” Which I believe means complete change to next gen will come with the other consoles.

    • SteampunkJedi

Sorry. The “strong” didn’t stop. How do you do that anyway?

  • leo

so the article’s wording is messed right?

  • rafael

I like this site, but first we see an unlikely zelda ”exclusive”…then a very misleading article like this and im starting to get skeptical about wiiu dailly :/

Anyway, thanks for keeping this site.

  • The Plague

Who cares what Capcom says anyway???? Their own fans HATE THEM!!!!
They need to worry about not losing their market share. The $120 Capcom x Tekken and Megaman Legends 3 fiascoes are enough to discredit their every word.

  • Bacon

Breaking News!! Capcom just hired Patcher! which explains this article… maybe?

  • Braulio500

Well, I must say that I’ve got to apologize. I was very impulsive.
I’m just sick of the people that says that Wii U isn’t a next-gen console…
But well, I promise that next time I’ll be more comprehensive =)

  • Kyron

I like how John Kinsley is sticking to his guns and I agree. Although Capcom made that statement, why would Capcom state something as obvious as that? OBVIOUSLY, they’re getting at something here. Making subtle gestures…

  • Dan

Hey Wii U Daily I think u should change the last line in your paragraph. This: “Meaning that the next generation starts with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720. According to Capcom, at least.”

To this: According to Capcom, the next multiplatform game generation begins with the release of Sony and Microsoft’s new systems. Hence the beginning of the new generation of platforms.

I think many readers are kind of annoyed that u phrased it like that because it makes it seem like it all depends on ps4 and Xbox 720. This website is for Nintendo fans..

  • Ibiexplorer4

Well, the article has been updated. That’s good. Anyways, what Capcom says is true to an extent. While the Wii U will be a next-gen system, the actual next-gen console cycle won’t actually start until all three next-gen consoles arrive. Until then, the Wii U will have a head start.

  • Alienfish

I think there was something lost in translation. The next generation really can’t begin in earnest until all three players are present. Developers are looking to release their games on many consoles to maximize their profits and WiiU is just one console, meaning that the next generation won’t be in full force until everything is on the table.

  • Dan

I saw the next gen graphics on current gen PC,,, and that is Metal Gear Solid:ground zero,,,, lol,,, Kojima-san just showed Epic and Crytek who is boss

  • macabre6

Well, Capcom says and does some pretty stupid stuff every now and then, I still haven’t quite forgiven them for cancelling Mega Man Legends 3 and the upcoming DMC looks patheticly infantile and obnoxious. There may be something lost in translation, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

    • tronic307

Bad Box Art Mega Man from SF x Tekken says it all about their faith in the character. And why did Capcom have to reboot Devil May Cry? They’re using an outside developer, anyway, so they might as well just call it something else. They also farmed out Lost Planet 3, so I have zero interest in that. Let’s just say, RE6 had better be spectacular.

  • Bravyoura

  • Console gamer

The console is not out yet how you can talk for something that is not out yet and by the way is true the next generation start with all consoles

  • Nintentionally

Can we just have news in the news section please.

Poorly translated Japanese quotes that leave a lot to the imagination should not be published as news.

I’m sure that Capcom will believe the wii u is a next gen console when trying to palm off another dreadful umbrella chronicles game on us.

I personally want to see RE0-3 retraced through the eyes of the H.U.N.K on a clean up mission. I would love to run around the mansion with up to date controls, more ammo and more zombies. Not some jerky, random aiming mess

  • alex

i agree with wii u daily and am a nintendo fan boy but i dont, try to cover the sun with my hand the wii u is nintendo next gen cuse is 10 time beater than the wii but just a little beater that the curent gen and that is why capcom say that and that why games are just port from this gen with, the exemptionof zombiu and rayman wich are exclusive and build with the wii u in mind and that why i will buy both of those games i cant blame nintendo there are a video game companie and there money come from games and if they make a console to expensive and dont, sell is there ends when MS and sony have, other thinghs,to,survived and that, the, reason i dont care about the power on nintendo and just enjoy the innovation and if i,,want power i buy a ps4 not the 720 personally i dont like MS

  • Maverick-Hunter

If this is capcoms logic they ate going to be losing money for like a year or a year and a half and that’s just bad business

  • roedburn

As many people have already said, very misleading.

  • WoodenSaucer

A lot of people obviously don’t mean what “in earnest” means. Even that statement doesn’t mean that they believe the Wii U is not next gen. It means that the next gen cycle won’t be in full force until all 3 major consoles are out. That is a true statement even if the Wii U is next gen. The way I take it is that he is saying that they don’t want to invest a lot into next gen games until we are closer to the fullness of that cycle, but they are planning to eventually support the next gen Wii U.

Some people don’t have good reading comprehension skills.

  • Cryojin

And yet…. I have a feeling that, if it were the other way around, and the PS4 was coming out first, followed by the 720 a few months later, and the Wii U a few months after that, they’d be in full force development for the next gen before the Wii U arrived.

  • Hi8us

The article writer obviously misunderstood the report. Just like next gen didn’t immediately start when xbox 360 released because a lot of the games you could get for 360 at the time, you could also get on ps2, they weren’t very different until much later when true next gen games were being made for 360. Same with Wii U the next gen doesn’t really start until true next gen games start being made for Wii U.

  • tronic307

I was a Nintendo, Capcom and Konami fan during the 8 and 16-bit eras. These publishers were known as the Big Three on the SNES. Capcom and Konami published hit after hit on the NES and SNES, but took a cool attitude when it came to the N64, mostly due to Nintendo’s decision to stick with cartridges. Capcom even favored the Sega Saturn at one point, because the Playstation didn’t have quite enough RAM to do their arcade ports properly. Nintendo has used optical media for well over a decade, but never really got these two publishers back into the fold. The last blockbuster hit Capcom had on a Nintendo console was Resident Evil 4. Viewtiful Joe didn’t do quite as well as they’d hoped, and Zack and Wiki bombed, despite being reminiscent of their stellar 16-bit work, and it seems like they took that personally. Look Capcom, Nintendo fans will buy your games as long as you don’t throw the formula away. Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil – keep it simple. As for Konami, would it kill you guys to give us Axelay 2?

  • brian winn jr

John Kinsley keep up the good work screw these haters i love the page keep doing awesome

  • tlovecchio

Damn, I been thinking really hard about dropping the PS or XBOX consoles this coming gen for a WiiU because I’m just so tired of the bullsh*t between those two systems. Games on one and not the other because of reason I really don’t care about. I was really hoping that the WiiU would give me the best of both worlds. If I just wanted to have some fun and relax I can pop in Mario Bros, awesome co-op that I can play with my wife and friends and have a laugh. If I wanted to get serious then there’s Zombie U, Assassins Creed, Aliens Colonial Marines, ect….

I was really looking forward to Capcoms Remember Me and wanted to get it for the WiiU if I choose this system, but the developer bullsh*t is starting already?

Capcom just mean that they won’t develop next gen games until the PS4 and 720 are out.

That makes sens as Capcom is always going for multi. So they won’t release a next gen Resident Evil, with only 1 next gen console out.

The Wii U is nest gen. PERIOD !
Next gen means the Generation that comes after NOT the specs…

    • tronic307

You’re right; the Wii U has to be eighth generation because the 3DS kicked off the eighth generation, followed by the PSVita. Nintendo started the eighth generation; developers foaming over Sony and Microsoft’s next console offerings are only holding back game design. PC games are mostly seventh gen designs, even though current PC hardware is more than capable of handling eighth gen games. The Wii U likely won’t have brute force teraflops of processing power, but its futuristic architecture and revolutionary player interface will make the Xbox360 and PlayStation 3 look like ColecoVision.

      • Lucas Porjolovsky

???? PS3 and Xbox 360 also have 3D support (isn’t the Wii, then, a 6th generation console?), and they are incorporating what I think you are reffering to as the “futuristic architecture and revolutionary player interface” by means of the kinect and the ps move and that stuff. In my opinion, the Wii U its not an 8th generation console, and I think that anyone informed will agree, unless we state, as THLINK (the one who made the comment you blindly “agreed” with) did, that console generations have nothing to do with the specifications of such, but only with the year they come out and the console they come after.
