Capcom has been highly pleased with the performance of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on both 3DS and Wii U, but Capcom’s consumer games division direct Katsuhiko Ichii thinks the company can break sales records with Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS. Ichii stated he wanted to see the game break sales records for previous Monster Hunter games, as well as surpass other video game records.

“In addition to the great response I’ve been feeling from it, it’s a game that the development team are greatly confident in, so I believe you should look forward to it. Not only do I hope to see it break sales records of the past installments, but I’d also like to see it surpass other unprecedented records.”

It’s nice to see Capcom focusing heavily on the Monster Hunter series, which has had niche appeal so far here in the United States.

I like confidence! However, I also like innovation and creativity. Hopefully they add some new stuff into the game, and it’s not too much of a re-tread.

    • The trailers that have shown up so far look promising. I just wish I could get used to the controls properly.

Monster hunter 4 does seem to be a promising game. However i think capcom needs to be careful of their over confidence. While MH4 will be a 100% success in japan, I’m not so sure with America. My thinking of why America won’t enjoy this as much as JP is because CP changed the gameplay. From what I can see from the trailers, the monsters look more agile and challenging. And to slay these monsters, u have to use your whole environment whether it is climbing walls, or balistas, or utilizing your weapon to your fullest. But this is just my thinking, so i might be wrong.

Don’t worry about the US, because it’s not even said, that the west will get it :/

            yeah you’re right

Monster Hunter is an amazing series but can only be truly appreciated when you put enough time into it. The beginning is slow, but the sense of achievement in this game is like no other. I feel western gamers are quicker to put the game down if they don’t find it immersive from the start, but if the the slow start on MonHun was remedied to meet these tastes I feel like it’d lose something else on the way too. I hope it really gets a bigger fanbase in the West, like it deserves, but it needs to find it’s way to the hands of people who are willing to give it plenty of time before judging. It’d reach these people a lot faster if it got enough space in store shelves.
I’m really looking forward to MonHun4!

I think it needs a global release to be able to have that kind of success, dont get me wrong japan is big but the world is bigger!

Lies! Everone knows Japan is much, much bigger than the world!

  • It’ll come to the west as well but maybe 4-5 months later if not more, why don’t they try a Pokemon X and Y, go for a worldwide release there you have your records, nonetheless I will definitely get this game on launch day.

3U is still fairly recent in NA, releasing the sequel too soon could hurt it’s reputation.

But is is it coming to the Wii U?

    • Baum 「ツリー」

No, and it won’t be ported in the future neither.
Capcom made it clear, that Ultimate was the last (main) title, that’ll get released on two platforms and I actually like it that way better:
3DS Players finally get their (built-in) online-mode and Wii U owners won’t have to “suffer” from Frame Drops and horrible textures ^^

4G is however inevitable after a few years, wouldn’t be surprised if it found its way to consoles then. But as you say, it wouldn’t be the near future.

        • Baum 「ツリー」

4G would be a perfect fit for a console release 😀

          • J_Joestar

Or a western release of Frontier G!

          • Baum 「ツリー」

            Stahp 😀
I’m already excited enough about the japanese release xDD Don’t push my hopes more than neccessary 😛

      • Joyous Killer

Oh Okay. I was going to get Monster Hunter 3 Ultamite. I just did not want to get it and later find out a new one is coming out.

When this series was on fony consoles it was never as popular as it has been on nintendo consoles. Just shows what good taste in games we have rather than them fony boys just buying call of duty every year on the worst console to play online. Ha we nintendo knights of the miyamoto heavens are the chosen ones!

Monster Hunter seems to be an amazing series, but I actually really don’t like the art of fighting. It is truly to slow for me… but I see how other people really enjoy this franchise 😀
