Emily Rogers, a noted writer for Nintendo Force magazine, has an interesting story to spin today, surrounding the reasoning it took Activision nearly two months to confirm the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts. According to her, the publisher needed Nintendo’s approval before announcing the game, but that the situation blew up when many people assumed that the game would not be coming to Wii U.

“Reason for Activision delaying Wii U announcement for Ghosts is because they were waiting on something from Nintendo. From what I understand, Activision waited for Nintendo to give them an ‘approval’ on something. That delayed announcement of Wii U version.”

According to Rogers, the delay in announcing Black Ops 2 last year was not because Activision was waiting on approval for anything, but rather to help create buzz around the console by announcing a popular game for its launch.

  • Interesting… Wonder what they were up to? Maybe just creating buzz on purpose?

  • Sohiab Rehman

I bought blackops two and will buy this one too!

    • Noel Canales

you got it for wii U, how Is online play

      • david jarman

I love it and matches are happeing all the time for Tdm, domination, Capture the flag, One in the chamber, free-for-all, search and destroy and of course the hardcore modes of those games as well.

      • Agent721

I have it too… the online is the exact same as the other 2 consoles. Tons of fun. They’re less people online, but still enough to play almost any mode you want.

  • Elitepwnsface

She is so full of crap.

  • Guest

Dunno why, but I can’t really imagine, that this is true…
Even the Wii got CoD games and they didn’t delay announcements then, so why would they need an approval of Nintendo now?

  • Delayed? Ghosts getting announced in July is the EARLIEST the franchise has been announced for Nintendo platforms, from what I can remember. Even the COD titles on Wii didn’t get officially announced as early as Ghosts did.

    • It was delayed compared to other console announcements, which led many to believe the Wii U was being left out.

      • Still no different to how it was in the past.

        • D.M.T

Dude it doesn’t matter what happened in the past, the point is that the Wii U version was announced after the others have already been announced.

          • Which isn’t new, so don’t get your jimmies rustled.

  • Nintendofreak

who the hell is emily rogers?

    • Nintyfan

Gaming “journalist” who has a a good history with rumors meaning most of the time they are spot on. She writes for Nintendo Force magazine and Not Enough Shaders.

    • Archiq09

      a anti-nintendo maybe?

    • Ducked

She’s actually a very good Nintendo writer.

  • Clel

    Sounds familiar.

  • D.M.T

It doesn’t even matter anymore. The game is coming to Wii U and I will buy my first COD game

  • Cyrus

    Dear Ashley,

since you mention your source “Emily Rogers” it would be nice to also mention who she is. From that statement it doesn’t seem as she’s working for Activision, or is she?

A short google activity gives me the impression that she’s a blogger who writes about gaming stuff. So your title “rumor” totally nails the point, but as a reader i’m also interested in how rumory this in fact is.

Don’t get me wrong, rumors are still totally worth sharing, it just would be nice to have the information about the source inside your article instead of having to google it myself.

    • D.M.T

Ashley already said that this is a rumor.

      • Cyrus

I know. You probably meant to reply to someone else, since your piece of information is also a part of the information given in my comment. 🙂

    • Emily Rogers is a writer for Nintendo Force magazine. She’s been noted to have nailed several rumors in the past, which is why I give her credibility when it comes to discussing things of a rumor nature.

      • jay

Ashley why is there a screenshot of Mario 64 in the article??

        • The fish scatter away when you aproach them, it’s the new next gen possibility, which wasn’t possible before, except Mario 64 (for the ones who don’t get Jay’s comment, looking at the person who made the downvote)

      • Cyrus

        thank you!

  • JBeauregard

Ninty wants core gamers, but aren’t doing too much to gain them.

    • D.M.T

Nintendo never lost the core gamers. Nintendo fans are core gamers

      • Squid

Well first of all I completely agree with you D.M.T. But what I think he meant is that Nintendo wants to win over gamers who think they’re hardcore on Xbox or Playstation.

        • JBeauregard

True. Quick typing on my mobile phone. I meant hardcore gamers.

        • ScrewAttack

Since most of these “hardcore” gamers are squealy little kids….no thanks they can keep em. Keep Wii U pure!

  • sdmac200600

I can believe it. It really don’t matter though because it’s coming to the Wii U.

  • The Clockwork Being

Does this confirm that Destiny is being delay due to Nintendo too?

    • Squid

      Maybe maybe not.

    • Johny

      we wish ?…

    • Paul Wright

Man, im saying that the destiny trailer/teaser had A LOT of nintendo references. Im gonna put my money that its coming out on wii u.

  • jay

some lady claims activision was waiting on “something” from nintendo.

    Seems Legit.

    • Some lady who has proven herself to be credible based on the past rumors she got right.

      Indeed, it DOES seem legit.

      • jay

        READ my comment again buddy.

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

Perhaps it took two months translating the approval from Japanese to English? lol

  • SonicLucario

Well lets just be grateful that its coming to the WiiU on time 🙂

  • Squid

Well it’s Call of Duty, I’m not into that game. Mostly because I don’t like the idea of killing people with guns online, but if other people like it I won’t complain.

    • Ryushi

Yes, yes the game community isn’t violent enough already…
I mean instead of being able to shoot things, let’s throw rocks at them! (Preferably not large “rocks”.)

  • Mark

I’m just happy the game has been announced for Wii U; better have something than nothing, right?

    • Shaise

Yeah, my message to people ONLY who are willing to get this game, then actually get it or preorder it, & if you have internet then play online as much as you can, prove to these people that a game can sell well on the Wii U platform so they dont regret it & put their other games & support Wii U, this could also hopefully bring in more 3rd parties

  • Nintenjoe82

This whole thing was ridiculous. It was confirmed, then the gaming media went mad asking for confirmation and started making up as many convoluted versions of a CoD:Ghosts story as they could. Nintendo’s usual trick of silence has not helped them in the slightest for the last 12 months.

  • Ducked

I only play CoD for zombies, but I’ll still buy this game for support.

    • d d

Is there not going to be zombies on the Wii U version?

      • Ducked

There won’t be zombies at all in Ghosts, sadly they only do Zombies mode in black ops.

        • d d

… and COD World at War.

          • Tasnim Mostafiz

Treyarch does zombies, activision does spec ops

  • d d

    Hi Ashley,
Please find out about Zombie mode for us , since Treyarch is responsible for the Wii U version.

    • More Colt

NO zombies its an IW game all Trey dose is port what there given no added content or development is done by Treyarch we will get a mode in Squads called survival basically never ending waves of but nothing like zombies but if that’s what your looking for it will have to do

  • Jon

THis might be the first COD game I buy since MW1

    • Adderell

You’ve been waiting a long time for this, haven’t you?

      • Jon

hmm, not really waiting. More just waiting for something that is actually new and when they showed it, I’d look into it.

  • Jimmy D. Fugate

Guys, here’s the plan: Depending on how well Ghosts sells on the Wii U and also depending on how large the online community for this game is, will decide whether Activision considers giving the Wii U Destiny.

    • NkoSekirei

heres the thing they announce bo2 way to late wen wii u was close to being launch and never got much attention it would of have it they would of announced it before nov of last year and techniclly thats activisions fault

    • Mykdee

I’m buying it on WiiU for that very reason. I want a new FPS anyway, and I’m not buying anything else for my 360 or PS3.

  • Christopher Acuna

Still….people thought this game wasn’t going to release on the WiiU. That’s just ignorant.

  • kevin nun—-

COD: Ghosts doesn’t amaze me graphic wise, it is like an old generation game and engine trying to fit in with the next gen, a perfect match for the Wii U I guess. That’s why Nintendo owners are so motivated for this game rather than Xbox and PS owners. Nice match.

    • Andreas Sunde

And apparently, if you want the best graphics, go PC. This according to a high-up at Acti.
Besides, if you chose games for graphics over gameplay, watch a movie instead.

      • kevin nun—-

Oh my, the jump from BO2 to this one is not that huge for a next gen game. Stop twisting my word and making me look like a graphic whore.

        • Andreas Sunde

Sorry, that wasn’t the intention. Just a remark about the other next-gen consoles.

  • More Colt

ok ready for it is due to DRAM issues and how our DLC work on a wii u if u get DLC on a wii u its useable by all others on the console where with an xbox each acct needs to pay for dlc per acct in oct this is being changed so active. will get paid per acct for DLC not console from what ive found this seems to be why the hold up occurred

  • abe

i think this has to do with DLC costs. the story goes that BLOPS 2 didn’t get DLC on Wii U because Nintendo didn’t think the value of the content matched the dollar value.

seeing as several devs have released dlc for Wii U i doubt its a tech issue

  • Kmac

Shows how much the Nintendo Executives are dumb asses!!!

  • Quicksilver88

If this is in any way true then NOA needs to be slapped across the face……I mean wht is wrong with these marketing execs at Nintendo? The system is suffering major bad press by the day, Nintendo goes to E3 with really no western 3rd party support outside of Ubi, who BTW announces they arren’t planning anything after 2013 and you can’t get a green light for Activision, a major publish and for Ghosts a najor title. It should have been in the E3 direct and been touted…..who cares if YOU like shooter bro games…..they sell like 20+ mil per release on the COD games so plenty of people like them. I can believe it after all NOA neglected to include the Indy teaser is the last direct and then talks like W101 demo is coming later and then appears same day… It just seems like NOA is either amatures or just wants the console to fail in the USA.

  • David

No thanks, I bought a Wii U and its a dissapointment. I’ll stick to WoW and pwn some Horde 24/7. GG nice try.

    • Adderell

I’m glad you’ve shared your opinion

  • Martin Kearney

Waited for approval on something……. *starts praying* PLEASE HOPEFULLY THEY MEAN DLC!!!!!!!
