During the Nintendo Direct today, we heard from Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime about the upcoming Nintendo 3DS release of Bravely Default. Those in Europe are already enjoying the title, but those of us in North America will have to wait until February 7 to get our hands on it. There will be a demo available on January 2 for those of you who are interested in trying out the game.

During the Nintendo Direct, Reggie took the time to explain the sleep points feature, which is a powerful system that lets you accumulate points to perform actions in game, like swapping out equipment or reviving a fallen party member. Sleep points are gained at a rate of 1 every 8 non-consecutive hours that your Nintendo 3DS is asleep with the game running, so it behooves the player to leave the game running in sleep mode.

Reggie also took time to detail some of the StreetPass features of the game, including the ability to have StreetPass characters assist you in battle.

What do you think of the game? Will you be getting it when it’s released?

Paying for sleep points? This sounds like a free to play MMO, except you have to pay 50 bucks for it. And forced streetpass? This game is off my list now.

You don’t have to purchase sleep points. Reggie made a point to say you can acquire them free. It’s an option for people who don’t wish to wait to gain them naturally. Forced streetpass? Turn your switch off.

      • THANK YOU.

I dont get why this is so hard to understand >.> It’s not even DLC. It’s 100% optional.

I think it should have been play coins for these sp drinks instead of micro-transactions.

    • Or maybe both. I wish more games used play coins

I don’t mind the idea, though I don’t like how you need to have the game running with the game closed while it plays. I tend not to like leaving my games running especially if I have them in my pocket as if something happens where I accidentally eject the game cartridge. That happened so many times with Pokemon Y&X. If it is offered as a Download, that may make me switch to the downloadable one just so I don’t have that risk.

    • Odd… I carry my 3DS around in my pocket and in a bag full of crap all the time and have never had a cartridge pop out unintentionally… Sorry it happened to you though :/

well, I do that too, when I am just walking, I am usually fine, it mostly happens when I am at work and I am getting up and down a lot. I would take it out and put it somewhere when am at work but then I lose the steps and coins for it 😛

though I could make that up just by putting it in my pocket when I get home….

        • I brought my DS to work at Taco Bell a few times to get streetpasses. Now that you mention it, I think it did pop out once…

This game is amazing. Sleep points are not an issue as I will not be buying them. Why do that when u can get em for free. 🙂
