It’s rather dubious that a series called Assassin’s Creed should even need more assassinations as a headline, but after Assassin’s Creed 3, many people wondered when the series would return to its roots. The series has long lost its focus on assassinating historical targets and more about inserting its heroes into periods of time with new upgrades and an economy to manage. Thankfully, Ubisoft seems to understand that the manufacturing of barrels isn’t the reason people play the game.

Game Director Ashraf Ismail wants gamers to know that Assassin’s Creed 4 is embracing its pirate time period, but also refocusing the direction of the series:

“Yes, we are a pirate game, and we advertise ourselves as a pirate game. It’s even in our title. But it’s an Assassin’s Creed game, and this is very important, because this is how we’re able to build a pirate game. We have this really solid foundation that is the core and the heart of the experience. The story is about a guy who is an assassin and the conflict he goes through to become this guy. We actually have more assassinations than AC1 had.”

More assassinations than the first game seems like a good start, Ubisoft. According to Ismail, the older philosophy of the first game plays an important part in Black Flag, so hopefully the series will get back on track to be more about taking out specific figures in history and less about managing workers and trade routes. What do you guys think of this change of direction? Has it been sorely needed? Let us know in the comments.

    • But what if the Wii U version is the PC version ported?

      • SirDjss

since when is a PC game ported to a consol ? it has always been the other way around mate πŸ˜€

        • NintendoNoob

Ahem “Wii U daily: Wii U Need For Speed Most Wanted uses Pc port”

          • SirDjss

well yes ofc it happens , but extreamly RARE , so rare its not even anything to mention πŸ™‚ thats what i meant thats all πŸ™‚ and yes i know coz i am mainly a pc gamer πŸ˜›

          • NintendoNoob

It should be mentioned because it’s super rare and using a Pc port should be special

          • Actually Watch_Dogs for Wii U and PS4 are PC ports soo it isn’t rare

          • SirDjss

well as i say it IS rare (now/before) and maby it wont be in the (future) , like watch dogs, a game that is released later in the future :)..

        • the new need for speed???

  • Zelly Jeffers

Pretty excited about this one. I wonder if they’d ever consider releasing the first two as some sort of ‘Collector’s Edition’ for Wii U. I was always curious about the series and pounced right on III the second I got my Wii U.

    • Nintendofreak

there is like 6 assasins creed games

      • Zelly Jeffers

Well, the main ones, not Brotherhood, etc.

        • great deku tree

In my opinion the first part of assassin’s creed 2 is the best.

          • Zelly Jeffers

Uh oh. What happens after the first part that killed it for ya?

    • Rinslowe

      Awesome Idea!

  • WiiUltra

Good. I liked the first one where you didn’t need to upgrade crap or read about the time period. What is that a history lesson from events that didn’t even happen? I hope they focus on actually being an assassin and the brotherhood.

  • swic11

I’m hoping its better than ACIII, I was never pulled into the game in III as i was with all of the others… Hopefully ACIV will have what it takes to grab me, and makes me love the game.

    • Nintendofreak

      yeah liked d first better

      • People keep saying that the first game sucked but I actually like the game and I too think its the better AC

    • RockieOllie

I think i’ll get Watch Dogs before i pick this up

  • NoPuNintendo

Didn’t AC2 have more assassinations than AC1? Maybe I’m mistaking, but whatever ya know right?

  • mchelski

If it really is more like ACI or ACII then I would take back what I said about the franchise going down, if not, it might be even worst than ACIII (I hate trees because of that game)

  • Warren Huff We are fucked watch this video and have your eyes opened if they are not already. Gaming is mainly a smokescreen for them to keep us busy and our head in the sand. Will I keep gaming yes but will I surrender my guns to them no! But I will surrender my bullets through my gun!!!

    • NoPuNintendo

    • If you believe in that crap then please leave the gaming community altogether please because we don’t want nut jobs like you ruining our gaming fun. -_-

  • I’m getting this for PS4 but it should be interesting to see what they do with the Wii U gamepad πŸ™‚

    • NintendoNoob

*Throws Wii U console at you*
        YEEEES PS4

        • SirDjss

          • Nope…. just no….
            GTFO please
I don’t care about PC anymore since you dicks started rubbing your 1 inch e-penis over everything. PC gaming is good but it won’t beat consoles.

          • SirDjss

im not even gonna bother ;P

          • ElladanCZ

I think you are at the wrong webpage sir. Go to ps4daily please.

        • NintendoNoob

*deflects Wii U console, lands softly*

I like that they SAY they’re finally going back to it’s roots but with a PIRATE get out of here with that it doesn’t even mix! It’s another gimmick they HAD to use because it was in the stupid engine and it will be boring because you’re going to be riding a boat to kill someone on another piece of land get there run through the streets kill them run through the streets again back to the boat ride it to another piece of land rinse and repeat the pirate thing is stupid imo and it will get tedious and boring especially with the bad battle mechanics of the ship they had in AC3, I won’t be buying another AC game and I hope a lot of others won’t until we’re absolutely sure they are back to their roots and make it simple and fun like AC1 again…. BRING BACK ALTAIR and bring Connor some honor by making a better game around him!

  • AustinBb

Dafuq. AC1 was a mediocre game because of it’s LACK of actual assassination gameplay, and the dull, repetitive tasks they had you doing instead 90% of the time. “More assassinations than AC1” is hardly a statement that inspires confidence. I agree with taking out bloated economy elements from the game, but every console game in the series have been 100 times better with the assassination than AC1.

  • going back to their roots? thats what capcom said about resident evil 6…

  • Srpg2ishere

I’ve never played an assassin’s creed game, but I’m glad this one is making It’s way to Wii U. I might even go back and get all the previous iterations just to prepare for it. πŸ™‚

  • Michael Jurado

finally an assassins creed game i can get into … about pirates πŸ™‚ they better no F this up .. ACIV ninja ACV robots ACVI robot pirate ninjas lol im waiting for it

  • Rinslowe

    Couldn’t hurt to start there…

  • little_bsh

The first AC became repetitive very fast, because it seemed like you were always doing the same stuff. But I think it was the best AC in terms of atmosphere and the time period it was set. And AltaΓ―r was the coolest of all the assassins we’ve played so far.

  • xdlugia

Looks like shit. Same team who did Revelations which also was shit.
I promise you, this will be even worse than AC3.

  • Squid

    That’s nice

  • Potemkin

As long as it isn’t as repetitive and full of bugs as the first one….

  • RetroSquid
  • Paul Wright

I remember when you had to wait forever for a new game in a series. Do they make these games at the same time or something? Didnt AC3 come out like last year?

  • Kjetil Berthling

I hope they don’t go back to the repetetivness of the first game, it was horrible and made me give up on it :/
