Today Ubisoft announced a new DLC pack for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, but the announcement failed to mention a Wii U version of this DLC. The DLC is called Freedom Cry DLC and features the story of Edward Kenway’s quartermaster, the slave-born Adewale. You can find the premise for the DLC in the trailer above, which doesn’t feature box art for any of the consoles or PC. However, the European press release specifically mentions PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC as release platforms for this DLC, leaving out the Wii U.

We’re waiting for official confirmation from Ubisoft on whether this DLC and the Season Pass advertised at the end of the trailer will be available on Wii U. Does this affect your purchasing decision?

  • Ballzbeard

DLC is such a toxic aspect of modern gaming.

    • Keyser

Right?! I could replay almost any classic game without the need for DLC ever crossing my mind, but nowadays, its as if these big publishers are incapable of giving us a full game without charging extra.

    • Ony

Before, they were “Addons”, and gave 250% more content than DLC with the same price 🙁

      • Petri

Yes, before the addons felt like a thank you for supporting, even paid ones.
But now DLC’s (day one especially) feels like like giant “fuck you”.

        • prettypinkpanacea

Agreed. What is the point of creating dlc that will only be used on some, not all, of the current platforms? It’s almost like third-party companies are prone to producing half-assed releases these days. They don’t think of the ramifications of their decisions.

    • Donaald

DLC is a cancer that came as a result from used games and piracy.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Piracy is very small compared to the rest of the world. I doubt that. It’s a thing called greed. Used games aren’t that bad and to be honest, Gamestop and any other retail store chain has a right to resell them since they own them after people trade them in. So if you buy a used car instead of a new car, wouldn’t that make you part of the problem? Used games have been around for years, and cars for much longer. It’s only a problem now cause there are so many poor quality games out there that people trade them in and people buy them used.

It’s all hypocritical the way I see it. I don’t see many industries complaining as much as the gaming. All industries learn to adapt with times and if not, then I guess that’s their problem. It’s survival of the fittest.

        • nf_zeta

I think the biggest problem is that gaming along with gaming getting popular, it has also become easier for gaming companies to expect more sales where in the past due to gaming being more of a hobby of the few they would have had to earn it.

Now after getting comfortable they get greedy as u pointed out, therefore they start complaining about anything that doesn’t bring them easy money or limits their sales in any way, aka used games and piracy.

Then to regain what profits they think are rightfully theirs they put out a lot of mediocre (easily produced) DLC and sell it way higher than its value.

So i actually agree with both of u in a way however i wouldn’t just blame it used games and piracy if anything its greed as u said and us who let them get so lax and greedy.

    • LopsidedPasta

It’s bonus content. Wether or not you agree with the practice doesn’t necessarily matter.

      • Donato Camino

Yeah, but announcing it before the game is released always says “we want more money, so we are making this new content as we make the game so we can charge a lot more without passing the limit of our budget”

    • Dez

Finally someone gets it. Remember those things called expansion packs? Provided big chunks of content at a reasonable price and it wasn’t just cosmetic/minor update nonsense. The industry has regressed in this regard, and I’m shocked so many people are so obsessed with the crap. Damn you Valve/EA you brainwashed everyone into accepting subpar overpriced bullshit!

      • ahhh Blizzard know how to make an Expansion pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

      • kinghenroc187

WHAt douse valve have to do with consoles? my point exactly stop trolling

    • FlashFan207

      100% agree.

    • Chronic Gang

;lol i know yhr game hasnt even been released and they added dlc which is stupid

    • nf_zeta

Sad thing is DLC could have been so much more if only devs would use it better, there should never be DLC announced so soon in a games life, i would sort of allow cash shop-like things but they are basically holding back if they can pump out DLC so soon.

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

DLC are a plague anyway. A great game with no bugs and good gameplay + graphics + nice story is fine and doesn’t need more. We had no DLC back in the days :/

    • kevin

I agree, except I don’t believe they put much into the wiiu. Even the ubisoft team that did ac4 didn’t do the wiiu version. Was shipped out to another team. Ubisoft doesn’t support wiiu and just waiting to get out of the markey next year. These games already promised and had a deal with nintendo, I believe. Look how long it yook to get ac3 online working. Look at the sc not having coop, to have online. When online has been broken since day one and stll not fixed 2 months later. If this is what they call full support, I hate to see next year when to go to not full support.

      • Jacob D. Taylor

I seriously doubt that actually. Ubi has been a proud Wii U developer and think they will continue. The having a different studio do it is probably because it takes more than one studio to make each rendition of the game. More than likely Ubisoft Montreal or another was slated to work on it.

        • mario for life

ive already cancelled my pre order as they delayed it by a month look in the past raymen delayed 6 months, splintercell no local multiplayer now this gotta say something if they do the same with watchdogs ill skip that aswell

          • Jacob D. Taylor

I hear ya. My last comment was just about pulling support completely. Doubt it’ll happen.

          • person

I wouldn’t be so sure. Can you think of one Ubisoft AAA title coming out after AC IV or Watchdogs that’s on the Wii U?

          • Jacob D. Taylor

Yeah I can’t think of any Ubisoft titles after that period. For any consoles

          • person

I keep hearing about some game called ‘the division’, that’s definite not coming to Wii U.

        • kevin

Montreal is doing every version except wiiu. Only wiiu was spawned out to another division. That tells all. If the canada people can hhandle 5 different but not wiiu. From the comments on interviews, it sounds like its the ac3 engine for the wiiu with a bit of tweaking for frame improvements. That’s what they said.. its not full support.

  • Toadlord

This alone will probably hurt the sales of the Wii U version of this game. Why pay for something that you can’t get the “full” version of? If Wii U sales are poor for this game, they have no excuse.

  • D.M.T

I’m tired of reading these type of things every single day. Why are DLC and online always skipping Wii U? Don’t tell me it’s because of install base because that’s not the reason. Don’t believe everything you read/hear.

I always say that if you’re gonna bring a game to Wii U then DO IT RIGHT or else don’t bother putting the game on Wii U.

Why put the game on Wii U if you’re gonna give us the incomplete version? Keep your incomplete version WE DON’T WANT IT. You either give us the same game as other versions or you skip the Wii U. We don’t want the inferior version you @ssholes

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Calm down. I have to ask, if you’re tired of these articles, then why do you read them? The headline made it obvious it was another Wii U that won’t get DLC.

Actually, the install base is small, and that may have played a part in their decision. I don’t believe everything I hear, but it’s easy to tell that with less than 4 million Wii U owners out there, how many do you really think will buy this game and DLC compared to a larger install base on the 360 and PS3? Besides, it says may not come to the Wii U, so don’t jump the gun so soon. You’re quite a passionate one. Relax.

  • bizzy gie

It’s just some typical idiot who forgot Wii U exists.

I’m sure Wii U will get the DLC.

  • Jon

AND BOOM, the DLC is announces WEEKs before the game is released….. This is the thing for games now and it pisses me off. I don’t like paying full price for half a game.

    • Ducked

Yeah exactly, what’s the point of announcing DLC before the game is even out? Maybe after Christmas when everyone’s played the game enough to want more.

      • Jon

I just hate it because it gives me the impression that they made the content and then decided to keep it out so they can make an extra $20 on release instead of take extra time to develop the content. If they released the game, then took extra time to make it, I would not be upset. But the fact that they made this in the developing time of the game and just withheld it to make extra $$$ without spending more time to develop it, just annoys me.

        • Ducked

Exactly, instead of fitting the extra content into the game, they release it with DLC right to the side. This is why I’m glad Nintendo avoids DLC

          • or AT LAST, make the DLC for they one buyers!

  • RedChu

I think it’s just the season pass that’s not coming to Wii U. The official statement makes no mention of the platforms the DLC is coming out for – all it says that the season pass is available on PS3, PS4, 360, and PC.

    • capitalism1023

The DLC should come to Wii U since Ubisoft released DLC for Assassins Creed 3 on Wii U. They also offered DLC for Splinter Cell Blacklist on Wii U. Support Ubisoft people and stop complaining because they’re one of the only third parties that actually have faith in the Wii U.

  • Agent721

That means PS3 for me… eventually.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Why can’t people learn wait till its official? I mean ACIII got DLC, I am not sure why they wouldn’t pass on Wii U either. Ubisoft has been better than most devs when it comes to DLC

    • Jon Turner

Whether WiiU gets the DLC or not (I doubt it won’t, this is Ubisoft after all), I’m still getting this. DLC isn’t the same as gimped multiplayer.

  • Petri

I think its just the season pass that is not coming to Wii U.

Think it shows all the boxes on this trailer?
    Edit: ACuk youtube page.

  • ACIV DLC could be skipping WiiU? Shouldn’t that be:
ACIV DLC IS skipping WiiU Ashley?

Sorry that was a lame joke we’ll see what ubi decides, but honestly if it skips WiiU I for one would not be surprised either. Likely it will come to WiiU though, ubi has been one of the few great 3rd party WiiU supporters.

    • mario for life

only by doing the bare minimum look at there pass

  • FaTih

I’m confused I didn’t like the DLCs for AC3 but this looks badass and will/would be the first DLC I buy for AC

  • Brandon Gardner

    Django!!!! lol

  • Brandon Gardner

    Assassins Creed: Unchained lol

  • LopsidedPasta

Ubisoft, if you skip the DLC, I’m skipping your game. I’m planning on pre-ordering the game soon. But don’t test me.

    • mario for life

just ship the whole game from the start i reacon

      • LopsidedPasta

        um, what?

  • Ace J

DLC is announced before the game even comes out?? wow publishers don’t waste time these days….

  • Ducked

Don’t really care, I always thought DLC is way to waste money, I want to buy my game complete. That’s why I like Nintendo games. DLC is good when developers use it right, but most of the time they don’t.

Now a game that needs DLC is Nintendo Land!

  • Donato Camino

Why they are anouncing a DLC BEFORE the game is even released?!?!?!?! Fuck if they are making a DLC already, PUT IT ON THE GAME!! Fuck, I really hate the industry now.

  • I hope this is just another case of an assumption based on lack of information. Wasn’t said that Watch Dogs was not going to have the DLC or Extras either and I believe that has changed now too.

    • shanafan

I believe it is all that – assumption based on lack of information. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe AC3 didn’t have a Wii U season pass but it still had the DLC?

  • Superstick98

Sometimes I wonder if developers are doing this because they want they want the Wii U to fail. -_-

  • Gabe Hoffman

Remember how we though Batman would not be getting Deathstroke look what happened

  • Felix

yea np, i can play with gamepad so if graphics are poor, no dlc, or even no online is ok!!!, im just conformist so…. thanks nintendo!!!

  • The True Gamer

Sad how ubisoft is starting to give up on Wii u. Devs really should give it a chance, otherwise it’ll be a nintendobox

  • FlashFan207

Well, that’s an absolute shame. Maybe it will be cheaper than the other versions, like Arkham Origins. There’s gotta be a silver lining somewhere…

  • Veries Seals

Was it just me, or did I miss something? I did not see anywhere in that video that said that Wii U or which console for that matter is or is not getting the DLC. Let me watch this again. Maybe I missed something.

  • Blugrave

The hilarious thing is that I NEVER EVER get Assassin’s Creed DLC. This was going to be my first time ever getting it….. This better be an option and then I will buy it day one.

  • mario for life

this is why i only buy nintendo games they give you the whole game and when they do dlc look what happens new super luigu u
or if buy other games ive never bought dlc and never will

  • Lil J Moore

I don’t know if this is good for others but for me it’s a good thing because I’ve never bought DLC or season passes for no games unless they come with the game.

  • Agent X

The good old days when we were all happy to play a game and then unlock extra content.

Nowadays you just pay for the game(sometimes) pay for playing the game(when you need to quickly finish it) pay for upgrades/customs/characters/stages/bosses/etc pay for an ending (because the original ending is fucked up)

buy a game(new) for 60bucks and pay another 20 – 30 bucks to full complete the game

    • The True Gamer

Some games like halo and guitar hero really increase the value of a game with DLC years after launch

  • Rinslowe

So long as the game is a complete experience in narrative without the DLC then, meh…
But whats with announcing DLC even before the game is released?

Even large companies can consolidate profitable divisions to shift revenue around where necessary. Why is it so hard for one studio to treat DLC in the same way? Current gen has a combined install base of 150 million gamers. Surely they are well aware the time spent to develop said DLC and distribute to only current gen would also cover the cost to develop for Wii U and then some. let us also not forget PC.
If they skip Wii U based on a low install base then it is obvious their internal management is in the dark ages and probably kept that way for reasons of greed…
It has nothing to do with a lack of money, the coding would have been done. A small task to port to Wii U and then what would be lost? Not even a quarter of the studios staff in monthly salaries I’d wager…
When putting all platforms together (and it’s still essentially the same DLC), they will still be profitable!
    Shameful really.

  • Louie

The game isn’t even out yet and they are already advertising DLC! Why cant a developer release a complete game for once and resist the cash grab phenomenon that is poisoning the gaming industry?

    • Michael Jurado

seriously the game isn’t even out yet and you are going to tell me you don’t have enough time to put the dlc in the game …. “poisoning the gaming industry” I couldn’t have said it better.

  • Gregg

    Awesome. DLC sucks.

  • devmiles

wii-u owners should be happy that this title made it to the wii-u in the first place, future announcements like this won’t be rare i believe…. shame

  • Andrew

it is skipping wii u no body supported the game on wii u. no demand (support from us) = no / small 3rd party support from devs.

    • Michael Jurado

why would a support the game if the game is missing content

      • The game isn’t missing anything, the story is about Edward Kenway, always was intended to be. Adewale’s story is just an interesting little background to how he came to Edward, not an essential part of the game’s story. This is nothing more than a bonus and if you don’t want it, then that’s your prerogative. This is the one DLC that doesn’t deserve to have the main game slandered over.

        • Michael Jurado

essential or not it’s still missing -_-

          • No, it’s not.. because it’s a bonus if you want it, it’s not part of the original game therefore non essential = not missing.

  • Sorry if this has been posted already but apparently it is confirmed

    NO DLC

  • tomtank91

Why is DLC already being discussed? This is proof that all they give a crap about is the money. If people fall for it then it’s there own money they are wasting.

  • Michael Jurado

okay so i’ll say it again by excluding dlc on a console and justifying it as the console doesn’t have enough people so there isn’t a reason to make a dlc for this console isn’t hurting the console as much as it’s hurting you’re own freaking company. If AC4 doesn’t have the dlc on my wii u then I’ll just skip the game entirely and watch my friend play it on his 360 because, what’s the point if my console doesn’t get all the content -_-

  • FaTih

    • FaTih

  • Jacob

Are you kidding me?!? I was really hoping to get the Wii U version of this game instead of the PS3/360 one, but now it’s been revealed that it won’t be receiving the DLC. Honestly, I’m going to try my best not to buy the game as a form of strike. Although I’m not sure I can do that, as I’m a huge fan of the AC series.

  • kinghenroc187

and again the industry shoots its self in the mouth

  • Green

I understand many people’s hatred/disgust towards DLC, and also Ubisoft, but keep in mind Ubisoft is one of the few third parties that are trying to support the Wiiu even though they themselves have yet to make a profit in their games. Sure from what I heard Zombie U was rushed, but at least they tried and are trying. As for skipping DLC on Wiiu its weird, I mean i Never buy DLC because I’m a Bidoof and don’t own a credit card, but yeah.
