Oct 15th, 2013

Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma recently spoke about the franchise in a new interview, revealing new tidbits and when we can expect new information surrounding the release of the Legend of Zelda game for Wii U. When asked if he could share any information about the new Wii U Zelda game, his answer was a simple:

“I’ll say more at E3 2014.”

Another question that was leveled at him was whether or not the game would feature an open world like Wind Waker, or whether the new game would be as closed as Skyward Sword. Many fans seem to be divided on the issue, so it’s interesting to see Aonuma’s perspective right now.

“I think the most open-world Zelda we’ve had so far has been Wind Waker, just because you were able to sail the ocean and go all over the islands. When creating a game, we look at what is the core, kernel gameplay. You try to construct the game around that, and making that core mechanic the easiest to access.”

“For Skyward Sword, that kind of narrowed, focused world helped us with that, but at the same time it meant you didn’t have that wide-open world to explore. We’ve heard the complaint about lack of openness from a lot of fans. As we’re deciding what the core gameplay mechanic was, we have that open-world desire at the forefront of our minds, and we’re trying to figure out how to incorporate that as well.”

From his answers, it seems like the next Zelda game could potentially be more open than Skyward Sword, but perhaps not as free roaming as Wind Waker. What do you think? Do you prefer an open or closed world in a Zelda game? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Majora’s Mask

    • Zuxs13

Technically it already has, back in Feb during the Nintendo Direct.

      • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Your Right Zuxs13 they already has announced Zelda Wii U

      • Majora’s Mask

        • Zuxs13

No actually they announced a Zelda Wiiu game back on February. Have they showed it yet? Well then the answer is no. But have they announced the game exists well then its a yes.

          • Majora’s Mask

i have seen it but it could also be a loz online game or something like four swords so no nothing is confirmed he said he was working on the next title but nothing confirmed

  • Lil J Moore

    CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

    • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

      ME TOO!!!!!

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

This will sell billions of Wii U ! Let’s hope we won’t have to wait 2 years. 2014 please.

    • Zuxs13

It might sell 3 million or so but that will be about it. Most Zelda games have barely reached 7 million sold world wide.

      • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

        • Zuxs13

Well I guess that depends on your definition of a lot. Well it may sell well and sell some systems, its minor compared to many of Nintendo’s franchises

          • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Ok but its still a LOT

          • Zuxs13

            Compared to what?

          • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Well that Nintendo sell a LOT of games and systems

          • Zuxs13

Compared to whom? Ouya? Then yes. Compared to apple? Then no. “A lot” is a relative term.
Zelda sells a lot compared to pikmin and Lego city. But nothing compared to COD and Mario Kart.

          • Magnus Eriksson

But it sells systems. Many who would buy the Wii U just to play Zelda.

          • Zuxs13

Well lets hope by the time this game comes out we wont still be worried about “selling consoles”

  • WiiUisgaming

  • Magnus Eriksson

It sounds to me that this project still is on the drawing board. I think fans that believes in a Zelda U 2014 will be very disappointed. First announcement on E3 is not a good sign either. Earliest 2015. That is still my prediction.

    • Alexander Kleinwechter

I rather wait a year, then the game is half finished, and nintendo sad its their biggest nintendo project ever, so 2015 doesnt sound too far away, becasue we have so many great titles coming 2014!

      • Magnus Eriksson

I agree. Nothing would piss me off more than a half hearted Zelda game.

      • AAAkabob

Not to be arrogant, but what are the “many great titles” coming 2014?

I know Mario Kart & Smash Bros (if its not delayed like every other time) is coming out but I’d like maybe 2 more that will really get me excited.

Inb4 DKC, it’s not as exciting as can be.

        • SGTMAR

Bayonetta 2 is all you will need.

          • x some one?

          • X and bayonetta 2 will do for me, X 150% all the way, 110% Bayonetta 2 (never played original so not sure what to expect)
Unlike previous game from the team of X which I played almost 400 hours so I know for sure what to expect.

          • darkcreap

It is hack and slash. I asked a friend of mine who has Bayonetta in PS3 to let me see it. It was not my cup of tea, but I recognise it seems promising. I only watch it for 15-20 minutes, though. Try and explore it, maybe you will like it.

          • Lusunup

How can they even forget It’s still in my mind even the song to the trailer.

          • C4

            X is all I need.

Speaking of which, I hope the openness and vastness in Zelda Wii U is similar to Xenoblade, with a bit more restrictive layout of fields (after all you don’t have a party & menu based combat, I guess) and of course more complex dungeons and dungeon-like areas 🙂

        • Vextrum

          GET. OUT. NOW. Goodbye.

        • Jon

Yoshi Yarn, Project X, Bayonetta, you named 3. Then there will probably be others released that have not yet been announced.

          • Hinaru

We got Bayonetta 2, Dk Tripical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Smash bros 4, maybe X and then Yoshi Yarn and everybody seems to have forgotten Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tenshi, and possibly that other Sonic game.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

I except some new announced projects at e3 2014 seems like a new Wii Sports or a Mario Party game. But even better we may here more abouy Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. All are good with exception of DK Tropical Freeze, X, Super Smash Bros Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Yarn Yoshi and probably a Kirby game.

        • Kev

You need to watch the trailers for X like right now. Stop whatever you’re doing and google Monolith Soft X trailer and be prepared to be blown away.

    • Daniel Carvalho

We know Nintendo likes to announce their games when they’re close to completed, so 2015 doesn’t sound too far away if they announce it at E3 2014. Although Zelda games love to be delayed…

      • darkcreap

With Skyward Sword it was like that. Nevertheless, they showed some things in 2010 (artwork, I seem to recall), but not very much. I saw some pics in Wikipedia prior to E3 2011. The question is how much will we know. If they show a little, it means they will release it in 2014, but if not, we will see it in 2015. Some say that the Christmas title for 2014 will be Smash Bros, but who knows…

The thing which makes me think it could come in 2014 is the fact that they were about to show something in this last E3. It was surely too early to show if they decided not to do it. If they really intend to show it in 2014 is probably because they might have it almost completed. If not, why would they even consider showing something at this E3? Iwata has said that he would like a new Zelda game every 3 years but generally it takes like 4-5 years for them to release them, except with releases in the same console like in the NES and the N64, except Wind Waker and TP, but that was delayed to push the Wii. Furthermore, it has been said

On the other hand, I read some rumours about it being huge last year and that they were still experimenting with the first dungeon, so that could mean 2015.

Don’t know, it is a complex question, but I would give it holiday 2014, because holiday 2015 might be a bit too late for WiiU.

    • greengecko007

That’s exactly what it sounds like. They are still tossing ideas around. Every other month Anouma comes out and says, “I’m not sure what direction to take about …”. It’s kind of getting annoying honestly. No news would be better than getting a constant reminder that the developers have made little to no progress.

      • Moreck

That’s how it may seem, but keep in mind that Anouma & his team have been working on it for at least a year. He’s probably being as vague as possible and giving us little trickles of info just to keep us talking without giving too much away

        • Magnus Eriksson

A year is a short time in the Zelda world. Remember that the WW remake took “only” six months. And Majoras Mask was made in 18 months only. That game relied fully on an already made game engine, and reused many of the models. And that is impressively quick. 3-4 years is a probable developing time for a new Zelda, maybe even more.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

            Seems true.

          • harelsen

but one would think they have come more than one year in development?

          • Magnus Eriksson

One could dream. But it sounds like they are still in pre-prod. And if they are 1.5 years into production, there is still 1.5 more years to go. That is earliest 2015.

        • oontz

No his team had been working on WW HD, and now finishing a link between worlds. He even said He’d LIKE to use ideas from both those games on Zelda Wiiu. Notice the word LIKE… as in future tense. I think this game is a long way off.

    • Ony

Definitely 2015, even if they have already finished the pre-prod, and that is a GOOD thing.

I have a huge amount of expectations on this Zelda, and this is NOT advisable : Nintendo rarely listen to fan cry (and it’s not always a good thing), so I’m pretty sure we will NOT have:
      – Open world like Wind Waker
      – Serious world like Twilight Princess
      – HD style of Twilight Princess (and the tech demo)
and lots of Zelda content that fans loves, as Nintendo keep to makes first of all, an EXPERIENCE, then they build a world around it.
So they don’t give a fuck about sequels or shit, they do what they want (and as Michel Ancel said in a previous article: “Nintendo’s greatest strength, and its greatest weakness, is innovation”)

      • darkcreap

I would be a bit more optimistic. I think we can expect some of those.
-The open world thing is going to return. Seeing how A Link Between Worlds has turned out to be, I would expect to have an open world with dungeons you can play in several orders. They have done that with A Link Between Worlds and I think it is because they realised Skyward Sword was really boring in the sense that there was no exploration and too much help and linearity. They have insisted in these topics since the Nintendo Direct in January 2013. They said that they wanted to go to the roots of the saga and I think that with ALBW they are trying to make a Zelda more like the NES one (I haven’t played it). I read that you could try and beat dungeons in any order.
-I think it unlikely that they will have a world like Twilight Princess. While Wind Waker alienated many western fans due to having a cartoony style (not my case, I love it!!), Twilight Princess did the same for the west. Furthermore, they said they had reached a sweet spot with the artwork in Skyward Sword. Not too light hearted, not too dark. Probably we’ll see something like that. A Link Between Worlds is kind of that: There is darkness, but it cannot be a Zelda with some funny and strange things. Just remember Ocarina, A Link To the Past and Majora. There is darkness and some comic things.
-It will surely be HD, but I think it will be more like Skyward for the reasons I say above.

It will be a great game, I am sure it will. If it takes back open world exploration and tries to be more non-linear like the NES game it would be greate. Miyamoto did the first Zelda that way for one reason. I think that is one feature they shouldn’t have dropped.

        • Ony

(You know, the secret that if you want something and say everywhere ‘it’s not going to happen’ with sadness, it’ll become true #Dream)
Dungeons un several orders in ALTTP: it was not really as true as it will be in A Link Between World; you could make only like three or four out of nine dungeons in the order you wanted. Beside, I don’t think a SNES scheme would be interesting in a 3D HD Zelda (well it’s up to Nintendo’s Game Designers to make it relevent, I just can’t see how it can be good like that)
And please, I like the ‘make dungeons in the order you want’, but not with a poor buying system like in ALBW…

The new Zelda Wii U sure will be a great game. The problem, in fact, doesn’t come from Nintendo. The problem comes from me (and I think lots of fans are in the same situation): I’m kind of stuck in the GameCube era, my expectations are similar to the games that were released in this time (like Metroid Prime, Zelda TP, F-Zero, Starfox etc…), the VG industry have grown, considering the new generations of players.

So I’ll be a forever disappointed by new games, but that’s my own fault.

      • C4

        I agree, you can’t have everything…

But the 3 things you mentioned are like the best you can do with Zelda. It always had that “openness” where the game opens up after some time. It is pretty serious for a Nintendo game (compare to Mario, even stories often feel like a play and deliberately in some of the games) . Graphics will be the easiest to set the game apart from Wind Waker and Skyward Sword, although I expect the graphics will be stylized in a similar but also different way (not the clean tech demo style) – if they could achieve something like the OoT 3DS Artwork style I think it would be amazing, kind of realistic but also like a painting… http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/198742-header.jpg I guess Skyward Sword is a bit like that what they tried but couldn’t achieve…

        • Ony

I prefere the style of the tech demo, but yes, the OOT style is perfect for a Zelda (yet I don’t know why but there’s something wrong with Link. His nose perhaps ? Or the greenish of his tunic, too green ?)

Skyward Sword was too pastel. One step to the Twilight Style (a perfect balance between TP and SS actually) would be damn cool.
(Isn’t it OOT in that case ? :D)

          • C4

Yes, colors look a bit too aggressive, I also don’t like the red/brown on Epona. Looks like they boosted Saturation, after all part of the artwork is on the box, so it needs to “pop” visually.

TP looks fine to me as well but I remember Aonuma saying between the lines that it won’t look similar. Not sure if my memory is right in that case…

          • Ony

I read somewhere that they will continue in the path of Skyward Sword, so…

          • C4

If they can_ improve_ that look and with better colors and contrast it’s fine for me. Lighting and shadows should easily look better with the Wii U hardware 🙂

Btw found a similar style artwork for the new 3DS Zelda. Guess it’s just the style of one of their artists? http://www.siliconera.com/postgallery/?p_gal=339957|0

          • Ony

Wow I haven’t seen that one ! It looks gorgeous.
The game artist usually can’t have their own style, it’s up to the art director to choose the style direction, so I think this is intentionnal.
Add a little more ‘realism’ and it’s perfect :3

    • My thoughts exactly, I doubted it would release in 2014. But now even Eiji says we will get new info around e3 2014 so at the earliest 2015 but I think it can even become 2016…

    • ItzameyaToad

I don’t think it’s on the drawing board but more or less in early stages of development. And I agree people should expect early to late 2016 release, my money is on a holiday 2016 release. I say holiday 2016 because that gives them 3 E3’s to give info/try and sell the game, 2014 E3 to reveal it , 2015 to show what the game is like/how progress is going and 2016 to show the finished product and try and get people pumped for release. It’s going to be awhile and people need to realize this haha.

      • darkcreap

Not likely, Nintendo does not reveal games until they are close to release to prevent being copied.

        • Magnus Eriksson

No? Zelda Skyward Sword? Pikmin 3? Smash Bros U? Actually every game this gen have been announced long time before its release, and pushed back many times. Please understand is a slogan for Nintendo these days.

          • darkcreap

Regarding Pikmin and Smash Bros you are very right, but I don’t think that happened to Skyward Sword. I think they showed some artwork at E3 2010, but there was no full reveal until E3 2011. Maybe I am wrong and should check my facts, but I think it was that way.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

I think you are right it was revealed e3 2010 and came out 2011.

          • Magnus Eriksson

No, you are wrong. They was initally going to release it about one year earlier (early 2011 instead of late), it was pushed back because of problems with the controls. It didnt work properly during E3. Also Wii Party U and Donkey Kong Freeze was delayed. If you look into Nintendo history. They are delaying their products all the time, and excuses themselves by saying “we want to make the product as good as possible”. Thats ok, but they should know by now how long it takes and dont set up dates they are unable to hold up to. Thats unprofessional.

        • ItzameyaToad

True, I was looking at other franshises that got revealed early my mistake.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Possible. But 2016 is very bad news if its true. Without that kind of blockbusters the console might be dead before that. Highly likely actually.

        • ItzameyaToad

I really don’t see the console dying even if there is no Zelda by 2016. Perhaps I over-estimated my time, 2015 seems like the earliest we could see it, could be wrong. Really though if early to late 2016 turns out to be true then all Nintendo needs to do is satisfy everyone with there other franchises like Metroid or Starfox. Granted Zelda fans might be pissed but if what Nintendo has said is true that this is much bigger Zelda game we could see a late 2015 game and possibly a 2016.

          • Magnus Eriksson

I meant blockbusters in pluralis, not only Zelda. I meant Metroid, Super Mario Galaxyish/Sunshineish/64ish-type of games, Star Fox also Mario Kart and SSB of course (and those will come), The games that sells systems. If Zelda is coming in 2016 and that is the only systemseller in the horizon after Mario Kart 8, then there might be a problem. If the Wii U project doesnt catch up, Nintendo will end it. That is guaranteed. “We are not afraid for failure” as Iwata said in a previous article means excactly that.

          • ItzameyaToad

Ok I see what you mean, basically if Nintendo doesn’t have a big blockbuster ready after Mario Kart 8 and Zelda is the only big game coming then there could be a problem. I agree I hope that they can pick up sales with DK, Mario Kart 8 and SSB and are able to fire off a few big games while Zelda is being developed.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

As much as I hate it. This will turn out badly a lot of delayed games suffered from the same fate so I can except a Zelda game to release as soon as 2014 probably 2015. Nintendo stated Zelda will come sooner than excepted. 2016 will never happen.

        • ItzameyaToad

Perhaps 2016 was pushing it but I feel the earliest we could see it released would be 2015. I just don’t see 2014 happening, not saying it can’t happen but if this game is as big as Nintendo is leading on to be we could see a longer wait than 2014.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

2015 seems right but 16 looks of the book. My bet is 14 or 15 and 15 which is mostly likely will be released holiday.

          • Magnus Eriksson

It could very well be that they are using alot of its internal work power on Zelda, and thats why alot of other games have been delayed. That would actually be a wise thing to do. But I dont know Nintendos mentality and thoughts. They are always doing the strange thing.

    • Keyser

Well, they were originally going to show SOMETHING at E3 2013, but changed their minds last minute, which makes me think its more than just “on the drawing board”, or at least I hope…
I think this is good news because it probably means we will see it deeper into development at E3 next year. I’d love to see some gameplay

      • Magnus Eriksson

A desperate Iwata said so. But it didnt sound like that when Aonuma were interviewed about the same. And really, where are the priorities of this company? They have developed one Zelda for 3DS, a Zelda remake at the same time as they are working on a new Zelda title? Only six months is still six months, and Wii U could use them better on a new Zelda instead of a remake and a new game for 3DS.

        • ItzameyaToad

Im sure the 3DS Zelda was in production awhile back before Wii U launched and that remake is actually selling very well and giving some fans there temporary fix of Zelda which should help give Nintendo some breathing room and hold off the Zelda fans from busting down there doors.

          • harelsen

i thought the zelda remakes was not made by nintendo, but by a different company and nintendo just supervised them…

          • ItzameyaToad

Not 100% sure on that, I think there was an article on here that said Nintendo was assisted alot by another company when re-making Wind Waker. Im sure they don’t just supervise but instead allow another company to pick up the slack to get it done faster.

          • Magnus Eriksson

On 3DS yes. Wind Waker was co-prod with Hexa Drive, so you are right in a sense yes.

    • harelsen

that is kinda boring, konsidering they have had a long time now from when they knew what was going to be inside the wii u (about 4 years now). i am thinking more amongst the lines of september.

    • nin-10-doughfan

i think it will be pushed back 2016 and then a new console again will be announced at E3 2017!( this is my prediction)in fact a new console may be on the drawing board as we speak!

  • Ballzbeard

    2014 Holiday release?

    • Batman

  • only god can judge me

I am super pumped looking forward to this game as with every zelda.I honestly prefer a open world zelda game where you have the ability to roam around freely yet not stray away to far from the story sequences you just can’t help but glance at the beautiful landscaping design and it gives you more ability to expand.I definitely loved the open world environment in twilight princess where you could either warp or hop on epona and just ride around freely if you like with a bow and arrow while looking at the beautiful hyrule field.

    • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

wow that is a big and great idea

  • Ernie Sanguyo

I hope it’s open world just like wind waker.

  • starwars360

Awesome so hopeful it is coming 2015 and seem right time for new Zelda in 2015 while Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, X, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Bayonetta 2 is first party major titles in 2014. So seem perfect time for Zelda into 2015. 🙂

    • Zuxs13

That isn’t a lot to get excited about..

      • starwars360

Maybe in your opinion but those games going be great to epic. Nintendo promises more first party games next year too. I bet they tell us next year include Nintendo will explain details more about new IP game and new Zelda game for Wii U.

    • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

      you right

  • devmiles

E3 2014.. game then will obviously be delayed will come out somewhere 2015…that’s a darn long time for a new Zelda

    • Stoenk

4 years is a pretty average time for a new zelda

      • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

well they say that it will be the biggest zelda game EVER so they need lot of time to make the zelda and don’t forget that they being busy for a link between worlds oké

  • Zuxs13

So if this is 2015 it would be about on par for a full fledged Zelda game. But lets hope they have something else up their sleeves for fall of 2014.

  • RyuNoHadouken

  • I hope that since they almost showed the game at E3 2013 that they will still be on a Holiday 2014 release and the game to be revealed and playable at E3 2014.

I know it is a long shot but I am trying to remain optimistic

  • Ace

That means a Fall 2015 release (in North America).

    • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

      maybe not

      • Ace

Yeah maybe not, but if they are speaking about it at E3 I doubt it will come out Holiday 2014. Maybe, but I don’t wanna get my hopes up.

        • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

well we shal waiting for the e3 2014 and then we can see if zelda wii u will be release on 2014 or 2015

  • DeedsGaming .

MORE INFORMATION AT E3 2014? They said it would released 2014. Although, I did doubt that when Wind Waker HD’s release date was announced.

  • Jack5221

    I knew it!!

  • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

e3 2014 hm not a bad idea like this a lot

  • Veries Seals

I would rather it be more like Ocarina of Time.

    • Pikachief

Which was sort of open world. There was an open central area where you could explore different areas, but it was not open within those areas. Like half way between SS and WW, which is basically what he’s saying here.

  • asdfg

I remember when they said they would show it in the “near future”.
    Yeah right. Near.

    • AAAkabob

They don’t want to take away the thunder from WWHD and 3DS Zelda. Marketing 101 bud, think of the big picture.

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

Pretty sure next year e3, their just gonna share some information about the title. Expect gameplay of the game in 2015. This is zelda were talking about, development for a zelda game usually takes 3-4 years, we all know its worth the wait.

  • Joey

I prefer to have both an open or closed world in a Zelda game like Wind Waker and Skyward sword a mixed together…

  • Adecentboy777

    Finally some good news!

  • Tom Greene

E3 2014….what a joke…by that time wiiu will probably be dead. …oh Nintendo …why do you suck so much these days 🙁

    • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

      NO ITS NOT

    • ItzameyaToad

You want to know whats a joke? How hard you trolls try and make the Wii U/Nintendo look bad haha. Guess it’s a givin that trolls will try harder when they are TRYING to troll a very successful company hahaha

    • NkoSekirei

oh stfu retarded troll the only thing that gonna be roasted here is u

    • Pikachief

It’ll be dead in under a year? lol even if it does die, it wont die that fast

  • WarioForever

So what he just said was, that it will be open world but this time filled with many paths, secrets etc,(in other words, it won’t be empty), but not that huge world like WW., right? Then that would be awesome!

  • Madmagican

I’m expecting a 2016 release date for Zelda U so this fits my predictment

  • mojack411

    E3 2014? But I’m curious now!

  • Adrian

Is that a real screen shot?

    • 00EpicGamer00

No. It’s just a picture of the tech demo.

      • Adrian

Ahh, ok. Thanks for the clarification!

  • MujuraNoKamen

Hmmm not sure what to think, notice how he said “I’ll say something at E3” rather you’ll see something. This could mean we might be waiting longer but I guess it was kinda implied it woupd be revealed and since Development is going well then we could be in luck. I was hoping it could be shown in a new years Direct like WWHD. If it was revealed at E3 2014 then its possible it could be released that holiday but given Nintendo’s recent habit of delaying everything then I have my doubts.

  • prettypinkpanacea

I personally would like to see a new wind-waker style zelda for the U, though I’d be happy either way. Right now, I’m looking forward to Zelda: a link between worlds.

  • Mario

    Mamma mia!

  • The True Gamer

I never like legend of Zelda. I don’t know why

  • Gael

    Grand Thef Jars

  • EricNavedo

    Nintendo won E3 2014 exposed

  • companyoflosers

he said the same thing about e3 2013 -.-

  • Very sad man

both ww and ss are fantastic games. I will not be disappointed in either a plot driven like ss or an open world like ww, but I believe an open world is more likely

  • sd

Thats both good and hmmm. The hmmm part is that it makes me think that Zelda will not be released until 2015. Certainly if they are only releasing details at E3 2014 it doesn’t appear as though a 2014 release date is likely, which is a shame.

But if thats the case I wouldnt be surprised if, after the success of windwaker, they didnt do another HD remake for next year. 4-6 months work for huge sales isnt bad.

  • Blugrave

    Umm Awesome!

  • oontz

well I said it before… just wishful thinking that this game will be released in 2014. It’s probably coming at the earliest, holiday 2015.

  • leo

nintendo where are my n64 eshop games????

  • Kakabitan Mania

My WiiU will probably die before 2016. Good luck waiting for Zelda and I’ll just enjoy my PS3, PS4 and 3ds.

  • James Philip King

Open-world games were meant for 3D (visuals, not stereoscopic). In that regard, ever since Ocarina of Time, Zelda games have had a pretty solid handle on making the most of consoles displaying 3D (such as the Wii U). The next Zelda game REALLY needs to head in this direction again. If Skyward Sword is any indicator, something(s) changed in the Zelda formula, and much of it was fun and cool. But there was still plenty that did not go over well.

  • Pikachief

They started making this game alongside the Wii U and Wind Waker HD was created so that they could get some practice and ideas from making an HD Zelda game. They still worked on Zelda U while working on WWHD as well. So the game has been in development for probably at least a year, if not longer now. Possibly 2 years by the time E3 2014 comes around.

I’m expecting a trailer of the next game or a single screenshot at the very least so that we can see the art style this Zelda game’s going for. I’m predicting a sneak peak at what the game will look like and some talk about misc. info about the game. At best a 2014 release date with a delay, like most Zelda console titles.

  • Link Slayer

No way it will be here 2014. OPEN WORLD!

  • Ugslick

Smash Bros, X, and this for me. MK8 looks decent as well, and I’m sure it will be fun, and I will play it a bunch, but Smash Bros will undoubtedly eclipse it by far, and Zelda and X will probably be the same.
