Oct 21st, 2013

Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma was busy last week at New York Comic Con promoting the new Nintendo 3DS title A Link Between Worlds. We got lots of new information about the game including how the Zelda development team only learned about the Nintendo 2DS during development of the title.

According to Aonuma, he planned on revealing more information about the upcoming Legend of Zelda Wii U title, but didn’t have enough time between preparing for his A Link Between Worlds panel.

So my final question, are you already preparing a new announcement for the next E3, in 2014? Maybe a Zelda for the Wii U? How about this?

“Actually I wanted to prepare something for my visits in Germany and New York, that I can announce. But I was so busy preparing my presentation of A Link between Worlds, that I can’t show you anything “new” today. But you can enjoy my next announcement. As soon as I am back at my office I will start preparing something new that I can show.”

Aonuma did announce that he will have more information for fans at E3 2014, so it looks like we might get our first taste of official Legend of Zelda Wii U information then, if more is not learned in a Nintendo Direct before then.

  • Brandon Gardner

I have a strong feeling we will see something sooner and before E3

    • Wren Justin Umlauf

If Nintendo takes the same route they did with the last E3, then we will most likely see it in a Nintendo Direct long before E3, especially if he wanted to show something already.

    • Nathan Ostroski

Yea, maybe some artwork, music, video clips, anything plz b4 e3

      • Yousif Alromaithi

Would love to hear some music and something epic like Ocarina of Time. I hope Koji Kondo return back as a composer will let us hope so. Also why don’t Miyamoto work one last time as director for Zelda because he did a good job directing Ocarina of Time. No disrespect for Anouma but I really like Miyamoto works.

    • Michael DeVore

I expect it just before Black Friday. That kind of announcement would peak up WiiU sales even if the games a few years out.

      • Brandon Gardner

I agree at least a tease or something… I wish they teased the new Zelda during this past E3 kinda like what happen with Kingdom Hearts 3

        • Julio

          My thoughts exactly.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

I believe Nintendo give us more information like a visual for the world and more stuffs for the new adventure such as characters or so. Probably some pictures of link and something different than the tech demo from e3 2011. Hopefully those reveals will be after December when Nintendo will post their fourth financial quarter by January. I believe they will nail it hard on Christmas. Zelda 3DS, Wii U, Pokemon X and y, Mario 3D World, Mario Part 3DS, Wii Fit U, Monster Hunter 4, Pikmin 3 and New Super Luigi U will hit hard on Christmas.

    • Wayne Beck

lol Nintendo is going to do another Pre-E3 Nintendo Direct and kill all the Hype again. lol.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, probably a bunch of vague hints. 😀

      • Squid

I was disappointed with the No Pokemon announcement for Smash.

        • lonewolf88

          there is one now.

    • mojack411

Yeah, some small 15 second clip in a ND most likely. At least I hope. E3 is still a very, very long ways away.

    • DragonSilths

A Teaser in a December Nintendo Direct.

  • Zuxs13

Just read about this. I hope he does reveal something, it would be interesting to see what he has been up too on Wii U even if its a small sample of it.

  • Lusunup

Sorry but did anyone notice the massive hylian shield! lol

  • Yobrolo

I am dying too see something from the new zelda. Anything.

  • I am still hoping for some little bits of information before E3 and then a big reveal at E3 with the announcement it will be out before the Holiday Season in 2014.

  • Sdudyoy

There will probably be something about it after A link between words.

    • darkcreap

I agree. I think it is likely that they will wait for A Link Between Worlds to be released so it does not get outshined by the WiiU announcement. They already said that they were willing to show something at last E3, but preferred to wait.

If this is true, I think it is possible that we will see the WiiU Zelda in 2014. Hope they are doing it right.

    • Ducked

Aonuma actually said there would be something regarding a future title for LoZ at the end of Link Between Worlds, so it’s very possible.

  • starwars360

    Cannot wait!!! 🙂

  • Is_Mort

    What a sorry guy.

  • Adam Porter

OMG it will be in a nintendo direct soon i’m betting, this is awesome, maybe it’ll be on for christmas?? :3 what better way to get people excited about wiiU than showing some great footage of the upcoming greatest ZeLDA GAME EVER OF ALL TIME!!!! T_T

  • gtosheex

man those people look so… lame…

    • Ducked

I know right, I’d feel like I’d have to take a shower just being near them. Why would you honestly where something like that

      • gtosheex

i love zelda and all but im sorry those costumes are are pretty bad (like most cosplay costumes) and the fact that “not the most attractive people in the world” are wearing them doesnt help much… lol

        • Ducked

Yeah lol, the people wearing the costumes certainly doesn’t help

  • ChubbiestLamb6

I would guess that we won’t see any visual info before E3, especially if Nintendo plans to have a stage presence this time around. Having the art style in a big reveal in front of a live crowd is a great hype builder. More likely, we will learn a bit more about the style of the world (how open it is, etc) and gameplay style and whatnot. These are the things he has been specifically bringing up lately, going through their thought process when making these decisions. So now it’s time to show us what decision they made!

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

Even if they don’t show any gameplay this year, I’m still excited for any kind of news about the game.

  • Squid

I got him on Streetpass at NYCC, People wanted to take pictures with me also, I was. Geno.

  • companyoflosers

alot of people wnt to see artwork or music. i say we just get down to brass tax and see the art style of the game already. its one of the most important things to know to most diehard zelda fans.

  • Elitepwnsface

when is new your Comic Con?

  • Agent721

When this guy speaks, for some reason I hear Yota…slow, meticulous, and filled with riddles.

  • Michael Ocampo

I doubt they’ll say anything at all this year or at least mid to late December since they probably don’t want to take away any thunder from the current zeldas or games. But if they do it before black friday then they can sell SO many wii u’s

  • The True Gamer

This much anticipation for a non online game seems pointless to me. Just saying. Then again I don’t like Zelda in the first place

    • So a game has to have online to be good according to you? Online gaming is cool and all but so many games focus on the online play so much that without an online connection or a server to play on the game is pointless. Then the servers get shut down and the game is dead.

If that is your stance then you are not a True Gamer

      • The True Gamer

When did I say it had to have online to be good? I’m just saying that Zelda games have always seemed relatively linear, and don’t seem to have the long term appeal of an online game, or the replay value of a Mario, Pokemon, or Bethesda game

        • “This much anticipation for a non online game seems pointless to me”

Calling something pointless implies that it will not be good. Do you not agree. Your view on long term appeal and replay value is disproven by the fact that the games are still played and enjoyed by so many even today despite them being years old. To me most online games have little to no long term appeal seeing as soon as the user base drops below what the company wants (even if hundreds of thousands are still playing) they shut down the game.

          • The True Gamer

Let me out it this way. Can you play a legend of Zelda game for 200 hours without starting a new file? Or does the game differ every time you play the game? An online game or non linear game gives you more game for your money,

          • I agree that some online games can be truly awesome with updates and new items and areas added but many online games are very repetitive and offer very little new even by adding new items and areas to play in. I much rather start a new file and experience a game with a great story than run around a new level doing the same shooting at each other over and over. And yes you can play many Zelda type games for many many hours. They often have extra quests that offer more difficulty, items moved and level orders changed and done in different order. Heck the first Zelda game you can keep playing over and over many times. In Wind Waker there is at least one extra quest called the Heroes quest if I am not mistaken that can be done once you complete the game the first time. And if one wants they can pick up that game 10, 20, or many years later and play it again. You cannot say that for most online games. I guess that is why games that focus online play as a primary way to play have release a new game every year just to keep people interested where as games with great stories are practically timeless.

Everyone has their tastes and I am not trying to discount your personal tastes so let’s just leave it at you do not like certain games that others do but it does not mean those games are pointless.

          • The True Gamer

I didn’t say it would be pointless, I said looking forward to it is. When its a year until launch, looking forward to the game makes sense, but the new Zelda may not launch until 2015 or 2016. I understand that other people like Zelda, and I was rather ignorant in my first post. I am looking forward to pokemon games up to 4 years before they launch, and halo games for years as well. I just never got into Zelda. I loved playing the first one, it’s just that it seemed to become more about puzzles, and I enjoy a more rapid paced game like Mario or smash bros,

          • I guess people looking forward to such a game shows just how truly epic the series is. So you may look forward to games years in advance that others do not care so much about. Doesn’t make looking forward to it pointless. Who is to say this game will not be out in 2014 as originally projected. Nintendo is not known for releasing too much information before the game is close to release so if an E3 2014 reveal is in the works it is quite possible the game will be out and ready by the end of that year.

          • The True Gamer

An e3 2014 reveal would probably happen, but it just seems strange that Nintendo isn’t revealing anything. With new systems launching soon, you’d think they’d want to try to get people to purchase a Wii u instead of a Xbox one or ps4 this holiday season. Then again, they could be waiting to see how the Wii u sells later, then announce the game or change the Wii u’s strategy. Maybe a reboot without the gimmick, like the 2DS.

          • It is not Nintendo’s way to reveal too much about a game too far in advance. Never has and I do not think it ever will. Heck they broke their traditions just by having playable demos of games at retail locations well in advance. I think Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. scheduled for the first half of 2014 (at least MK8) and other scheduled 2014 games like Boynetta 2 and MonolithSoft’s X also will help keep people interested. Those are 4 epic games (in my opinion) that are exclusive to the console scheduled for next year. These are the games we know of and in Nintendolike fashion I expect a few great games to surprise us with little to no warning.

Personally I think the hype around the XB1 and PS4 will fizzle after the holidays. I mean there are fanboys announcing they are canceling their pre-orders over a few game delays already.

          • The True Gamer

Smash bros, is first half of 2014? Awesome. I don’t think any system will have much hey after he holidays, as n system ever does. Ps4 will have infamous early next year, Xbox will have Titanfall, and Nintendo will have Mario kart 8. I think Wii u will have some hype going for it for a few more months, but Nintendo didn’t necessarily build the system to appeal to developers, so many non Nintendo mega fans will probably pass on the Wii u, while the other games buy the other systems

    • WellWisher

I agree. Calling someone a fag noob via tingle bottle just doesn’t feel the same…. /s

      • The True Gamer

You are a fanboy. Go home fanboy.

        • WellWisher

          Awesome response.

          • The True Gamer

            You know it. :’

        • manowaffles

We are in a Zelda article, so if this isn’t home to Zelda fans, what is it?

Perhaps you are the one who is lost in an unfamiliar place, and as a true gamer, you should be able to appreciate Zelda for being an amazing series, even if you don’t like the gameplay.

          • Hugh Quinn

He is just some 12 year old COD player that can not understand good video games.

    • manowaffles

Fun fact: there are rumors that Aonuma is actually looking into ways to make the next Zelda both multiplayer and online. Will it happen? Who knows, but I promise it will only happen if it will make the game more awesome.

Though I would argue that off-line games have a much longer lifespan and are universally appreciated more than their online brethren. How many online games will you still play 8 years after they are released? How fun are they once their servers go down?

      • The True Gamer

I wouldn’t care for an online Zelda game, but I would love if it was inspired by Bethesda games. That would be a game that all people could get excited for.

      • The True Gamer

As for the online, games that are online have more potential hours in a shorter amount of time. You may not be able to play it in 10 years, but you can play for thousands of hours and still have stuff to do.

  • Rinslowe

Probably for the best; letting both WWHD and A Link Between Worlds have their time in the spotlight…

Having said that, I would’ve been glued to the screen watching any footage of the Wii U’s ground up Zelda… Multiple times.

I got a good feeling about this game… Oh yes indeedy.

  • iamserious

I am a huge fan of the Zelda series but for some reason I have a bad feeling about the new Wii U Zelda title. :-/

    • manowaffles

I’ve got a good feeling myself. Based on what I’ve seen so far about the non-linear nature of A Link Between Worlds, I’m hoping for to see a Zelda that doesn’t do as much hand holding.

  • Noel Canales

cant afford to go to comicon this year. maybe next.

  • demann78

    I cant wait

  • farrellbr

really wish he did throw us a bone on Zelda wii u

  • C.S. Bailey

Tell me you’re shooting for early 2015, and I’ll be satisfied.

  • Saikyo

    cant. wait. till. e. 3.
    Saikyo needs a direct, badly
